Today on the show we have director, writer, comedian, and actor Jay Chandrasekhar has contributed to and appeared in a wide variety of critically acclaimed television programs and films throughout his career.Chandrasekhar assembled the sketch comedy troupe Broken Lizard, which includes Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. Together they performed comedy across the nation until they set their sights on producing television and feature films.Under his Broken Lizard banner, Jay directed and co-wrote Fox Searchlight Picture's comedy cult classics Super Troopers, Super Troopers 2, Club Dread, and Warner Bros' Beerfest. He also directed the Broken Lizard comedy special, Broken Lizard Stands Up.Super Troopers hit theaters in February 2002 and went on to gross $23 million with glowing audience reviews (and $80 million on home video.)Jay continued on to direct The Dukes of Hazard, direct and star in Millennium Entertainment's The Babymakers, and appear in DreamWorks' comedy hit, I Love You, Man. Recently, Chandrasekhar published his book, Mustache Shenanigans: Making Super Troopers and Other Adventures in Comedy that gives a behind the scenes look at the making of Super Troopers. In addition to his feature film work, Chandrasekhar has directed various TV shows, including several episodes of the Emmy Award winning series Arrested Development, Community, Chuck, The Grinder, Up All Night, Happy Endings, New Girl, and Psych. More recently, Jay has also directed episodes of Fresh Off the Boat, The Goldbergs, Speechless, and Schooled. His new film is Easter Sunday.Stand-up comedy sensation Jo Koy (Jo Koy: In His Elements, Jo Koy: Comin' in Hot) stars as a man returning home for an Easter celebration with his riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family, in this love letter to his Filipino-American community. Easter Sunday features an all-star comedic cast that includes Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley series), Tia Carrere (True Lies, Wayne's World films), Brandon Wardell (Curb Your Enthusiasm series), Tony nominee Eva Noblezada (Broadway's Hadestown), Lydia Gaston (Broadway's The King and I), Asif Ali (WandaVision), Rodney To (Parks and Recreation series), Eugene Cordero (The Good Place series), Jay Chandrasekhar (I Love You, Man), Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Lou Diamond Phillips (Courage Under Fire).  Easter Sunday, from DreamWorks Pictures, is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, The Dukes of Hazzard), from a script by Ken Cheng (series Wilfred, Betas). The film is produced by Rideback's Dan Lin (The Lego Movie franchise, It franchise) and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin, The Two Popes), and is executive produced by Jo Koy, Jessica Gao, Jimmy O. Yang, Ken Cheng, Joe Meloche, Nick Reynolds and Seth William Meier. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures domestically. Amblin Partners and Universal will share international distribution rights.Jay also just launched a new app designed to give the power of reviews back to the people. It's call Vouch Vault."When my film, Super Troopers, showed at Sundance, it played to big laughing crowds. But when it was released to the public, the reviews were only so-so. On Rotten Tomatoes, Super Troopers, got a 38%-fresh aggregate score from less than a hundred reviewers. With the public, though, the film garnered a 90% fresh rating from more than 250,000 non-reviewers. This 38% reviewer-number stuck in my craw. I remember thinking, “Who are these reviewers, these strangers with outsized power, and why are we listening to them? Seriously. When's the last time you walked up to a stranger and said, “Hey, what movie should I see?”Our goal with Vouch Vault is to take recommendation power from anonymous strangers and give it to the people whose tastes you know and trust."

It's not as far of a leap as we think from the page, to the screen and ultimately to our hearts....On this episode we are diving into a little something for the whole family as 'The Bad Guys' is now available on VOD, 4K, Blu-Ray or DVD to watch in the comfort of your own home.Never have there been five friends as infamous as The Bad Guys—dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), seen-it-all safecracker Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), chill master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), short-fused “muscle” Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos) and sharp-tongued expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), aka “Webs.” But when, after years of countless heists and being the world's most-wanted villains, the gang is finally caught, Mr. Wolf brokers a deal (that he has no intention of keeping) to save them all from prison: The Bad Guys will go good. Under the tutelage of their mentor Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade), an arrogant (but adorable!) guinea pig, The Bad Guys set out to fool the world that they've been transformed. Along the way, though, Mr. Wolf begins to suspect that doing good for real may give him what he's always secretly longed for: acceptance. So when a new villain threatens the city, can Mr. Wolf persuade the rest of the gang to become … The Good Guys?We had the unique pleasure of sitting down with the original author of these characters; Aaron Blabey to talk about the origins of these characters, how involved he gets to be in the creative process of a movie like this and so very much more....

Hi Cheyanne (ewwww, is that how it's spelled?), remember when we told you Bugs' Life was better than the Bee Movie? It just so happens that was an incorrect statement that we deeply regret. Join Quill & Audrey as we are transported back to 1998 to review the 3 pixels that make up one of Disney Pixar's first animated films, Bugs' Life. This movie has it all: an empty plot, a bitch named Dot, and DreamWorks being a THOT. Cameos include Kevin Spacey (yikes), ZERO fuck-me eyes, and admittedly magical water droplets. TLDR: Flick should have been sacrificed from day 1 & Heimlich was the only good part of the movie

On today's episode, I'm extremely excited to be speaking with Mr. Bill McShane, lead singer of the pop-rock and roll band Ultimate Fakebook. Ultimate Fakebook is from Manhattan Kansas, but I always thought of them as one of my favorite local bands. We talk all about Ultimate Fakebook, we discuss their new album "The Preserving Machine" and the inspiration behind the new record. We talk all about the creative process that led to them releasing a new record after 16 years. They are playing on Friday night at The Record Bar in Kansas City, and MidFest in Manhattan Kansas on Saturday. It's going to be a blast. Bill is also a video editor, a trailer editor more specifically and we talk a little about that as well. This was such a fun conversation. Bill is someone I've wanted to talk to since the inception of this podcast and I want to thank him for taking the time. So, without further ado, please enjoy this multi-faceted conversation with Mr. Bill Mcshane. About Bill McShane: Award winning editor with over 15 years of experience in LA working on theatrical trailers, TV spots, promos, sizzle reels, music videos, home entertainment and behind the scenes material for every major studio, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, Dreamworks, Sony, Paramount, Universal, Lionsgate, Magnolia Pictures, Cartoon Network, HBO Max, Netflix, FX, AMC and Hulu. Chaya Leah and Yael welcome parenting guru and "America's Worst Mom", Lenore Skenazy. We talk about how to let your child grow freely (whatever the opposite of helicopter parenting is), deadly laundry baskets, anxious parents, and crappy kids. We talk about the importance of play, take some questions about screen time, and how parents and kids can slowly learn how to chill. This is a great conversation even if you don't have kids!Lenore  is the president of Let Grow, the nonpartisan nonprofit promoting childhood independence and resilience. A reporter by trade – including 14 years at The New York Daily News -- Lenore came to prominence/infamy after her newspaper column “Why I Let My 9-Year-Old Ride the Subway Alone” landed her on The Today Show, MSNBC, Fox News and NPR. Allowing her son that unsupervised trip garnered  her the nickname “America's Worst Mom.” She went on to write Free-Range Kids, the book-turned-movement claiming “Our kids are safer and smarter than our culture gives them credit for.” The book's second edition just came out this summer, with a forward by Let Grow co-founder Jonathan Haidt. (And his wife! And daughter!) Lenore has been profiled in The New Yorker, lectured everywhere from Disney to DreamWorks to the Bulgarian Happiness Festival (a real thing). And you may have seen her reality show, World's Worst Mom.
