Today’s episode is focused on one of our own, Katie Nelson. Katie is mom of two daughters, an officer with Delaware Natural Resources, college professor, and author. Katie is authentic and that is one of the things I most value in people. One example is Katie being pro-life. She walks the talk. She contributes to women’s shelters, is aiming to help those with unwanted pregnancies, and is even seeking to adopt unwanted children. This is walking the talk, folks! She also just opened a functional fitness facility in Georgetown, DE and is utilizing it for the Green Beret project, which aims to provide enrichment to underrepresented youth. She is also an author and has released two books where sales will be used for the adoption of a child from Latvia.
Our country is in upheaval with Black Lives Matter protests in every state sparked by recent murders of black men including George Floyd in Minneapolis whose murder by police was captured on video. The CrossFit community had been requesting a response from CrossFit HQ. The response did not go over well leading to Affiliates disaffiliating, sponsors stepping back, and HQ employees resigning. We've invited an African American Affiliate owner, Cameron Ball, and athlete, Muriel Beteck, to provide their view on what is happening in the CrossFit community.
On this month's episode we invited Danny Bostwick, a local Delaware photographer, to share is his story on a how he offered a stunning photo he had shot to the public with the intent to use 25% of the proceeds to purchase gift cards from local businesses to give to local essential workers. He tells the story from snapping the photo through how the response exceeded his wildest expectations.
Kim, Katie, and Ellie share how they are coping with the Covid-19 crisis. We generated the episode through Zoom and had some sound issues :( The sound quality isn't the best so please bare with us on this. We will work to correct for next time.
Kim, Katie, and Ellie describe and discuss their top 4-7 things that they incorporate into their life for overall well-being. Coffee, yes, coffee was the first mentioned! Also, sleep, nutrition, and activity were common things among all the women. Music and art were discussed too!
The trend of raising gender-neutral children has increased. It's gone beyond allowing your sons to play with dolls and your daughters to play with Tonka trucks. There's a generation raising "theybies" were the parents allow their children to decide their gender. We each provide our insight and opinion on this based on our varied backgrounds. There is some intense sharing of experiences and beliefs in this one that you do not want to miss! Please stay until the end! This episode represents why we wanted to start this podcast.
Since this is our first podcast, we introduce ourselves. We spend a few minutes discussing how we met and why we started a podcast. We take on the topic of social media and its impact on self-esteem. Is it as simple as unfollowing someone who makes you feel bad about yourself? We share who we've chosen to follow or not follow and why and discuss ways to be inspirational without trying.
