"As I stood about six feet away from him, looking at his beautiful little brown eyes, and Tuffy looked right back into my eyes and actually through my soul. And at that moment, I felt like it was quite emotional, and it really felt like he knew what was going on and understood everything that was going on." – Ana Paula Tavares For decades, chimpanzees in the United States were used in biomedical research, sent into space, kept as pets, and made to perform for our entertainment. Many spent years, some most of their lives, in cages, separated from other chimpanzees, and denied almost everything that would have made their lives their own. Save the Chimps exist to give some of those lives back. On 150 acres in Florida, more than 200 rescued chimpanzees live in large family groups on island habitats. Some arrive knowing exactly what to do with grass and open sky. Others have spent so long on concrete and behind bars that it can take months or even years before they feel safe enough to step outside. Ana Paula Tavares is the CEO of Save the Chimps. She came to the sanctuary after a career that took her from studying dance in New York to working in conservation around the world. But until Save the Chimps, she had never even met a chimpanzee. In this conversation, we talk about Taffy, Tonka, Vanilla, and some of the other extraordinary chimpanzees at the sanctuary. What happens when an animal has spent decades in captivity and sees open sky or feels grass for the first time. And what chimpanzees can teach us about friendship, forgiveness, family, and second chances. As Ana Paula says, "for many of the chimpanzees at Save the Chimps, the greatest gift we can give them isn't the islands or the open space. It's each other."

Transform and roll... well, sort of!This week on The Insanely Dangerous Retropodshow, Dangerous Dave travels back to the toy-filled world of 1984 to revisit the transforming robots that dared to take on Transformers...GoBots!Were they an underrated part of 80s toy history, or were they always destined to live in the shadow of Optimus Prime and Megatron?Dangerous Dave begins by firing up What Happened Way Back When?, revisiting five songs, five movies and five TV shows from 1984, including Ghostbusters, The Terminator, The Karate Kid, Wham!, Van Halen and The Real Ghostbusters. Then Retro Headlines looks back at some of the major stories making news in Britain and America during an unforgettable year.DANGEROUS DEEP DIVE – THE HISTORY OF GOBOTSDave takes an extended look at the origins of GoBots, beginning with Bandai's Japanese Machine Robo toys before Tonka transformed them into the GoBots brand. We remember the heroic Guardians, led by Leader-1, and the evil Renegades, commanded by the brilliantly named Cy-Kill.There are memories of Turbo, Scooter, Small Foot, Crasher and Cop-Tur as Dave explores why the smaller and often cheaper GoBots became such popular pocket-money toys.We also revisit Challenge of the GoBots, the Hanna-Barbera cartoon that attempted to build a universe around the characters, and examine what happened when Transformers arrived and completely changed the transforming-robot battle. Was Transformers genuinely better...Or did superior characters, storytelling and marketing simply leave GoBots behind?DANGEROUS DETOUR – THE GOLDEN AGE OF 80s TOYSWhy were the 1980s so ridiculously good for toys?Dave remembers an era dominated by He-Man, Transformers, MASK, Thundercats, G.I. Joe, Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Visionaries, Bravestarr and, of course, GoBots. It was a time when the cartoon, comic and toy aisle all became part of one enormous childhood universe.BACK IN THE ADSWe're heading back to British television for another classic commercial as Dave remembers the wonderfully bizarre Smash Martians. Why were aliens laughing at humans for peeling potatoes? How did “For Mash Get Smash” become such a memorable slogan? And why do so many people still remember those little metal Martians decades later?RETRO RUMBLE – GOBOTS VS TRANSFORMERSIt's the battle we've been waiting for.GoBots vs Transformers! The two transforming robot giants go head-to-head across toys, characters, cartoons, value for money and pure nostalgia.GoBots put up a surprisingly strong fight...But can Leader-1 and Cy-Kill really defeat Optimus Prime and Megatron?DANGEROUSLY UNDERRATEDDave gives Challenge of the GoBots another chance and argues that the cartoon deserves to be remembered as more than simply “that other transforming robot show.”ONE SEASON WONDERWe also revisit the wonderfully 80s animated series Pole Position, with its high-tech vehicles, crime-solving adventures and connections to the classic arcade game.TOYBOX TIME MACHINEThe Toybox Time Machine opens once again as Dave remembers Voltron and the brilliant idea of taking five robotic lions and combining them into one enormous warrior. And then...It's time for Gaz.GAZ'S RAPID RETRO REVIEW – GOBOTSGaz has heard Dave defending GoBots for most of the episode...And he's having absolutely none of it.GAZ:"GoBots? Sorry, Dange... I didn't like them then and I don't like them now! They were the transforming robots you got when you really wanted Transformers.Leader-1? He's no Optimus Prime.Cy-Kill? He's basically an angry motorbike. And Scooter? Don't even get me started on Scooter.Transformers had Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave and Grimlock. GoBots had... well... GoBots. Were the toys cheap? Yes.Were they easy to transform? Yes.But that's because there wasn't much bloody transforming to do!I know you've spent this episode trying to convince everyone that GoBots deserve another chance, Dange, but I'm not buying it.For me... Transformers win every single time.Gaz's Rapid Retro Rating: ⭐⭐ – 2 out of 5"Two stars. And I'm probably being generous. Back to you, Dange!"THE DANGER ZONEAfter Gaz completely destroys them, Dave enters The Danger Zone to mount one final defence of GoBots. They may never have matched Transformers for characters, storytelling or longevity, but Dave argues that history has treated them unfairly. They were affordable. They were fun. They were easy to collect. And for plenty of kids, a GoBot was their first transforming robot.Dave awards the franchise an impressive 27 out of 30 Danger Rating...Even if Gaz would probably like to deduct about twenty points from that score!HALL OF DANGERFinally, despite Gaz's objections, GoBots enter the Hall of Danger for their contribution to the transforming robot craze and their place in 1980s toy history.Love them...Hate them...Or still wish your parents had bought you a Transformer instead...GoBots are part of the story of the 1980s.And that's why they're worth remembering.NEXT TIME...Season 9 continues as Dangerous Dave swaps transforming robots for synthesisers and heads into the incredible catalogue of...PET SHOP BOYSFrom West End Girls and It's a Sin to Always on My Mind, Heart, Being Boring and Go West, we'll explore the history, albums, greatest hits and legacy of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. The Insanely Dangerous Retropodshow – keeping the greatest decades alive, one dangerously nostalgic episode at a time.

This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; even though we are Celebrating our 10th Year of Podcasting; we unfortunately exhausted all our energy on the Previous SDCC Reveals & Announcements Ep. So we are giving you a ReIssue episode instead from the Vault. (Originally Posted as Ep #143 - from October 2019). Original blurb: It’s a very special ep as we’re joined by not one, but two of favourite guests in Davey Damaged and Scotty so that’s right – it’s a Homer episode! Trent takes us through a vintage retrospective look at The Addams family by Playmates. Perfectly timed for Halloween, we wonder what could have been with this short-lived line and look to the future of the franchise as a new movie approaches. What characters didn’t get made, which ones make the camera glow and where does MC Hammer fit into it all? We make the jump to Show and Tell as Davey tries to trump us all with a purchase so large, we doubt it will actually fit in his toy room! There’s some DC, MOTU and even Final Fantasy options to choose from. Frank gives a lovely tribute showing that sometimes, the value of a toy; lays in more than its sticker price. Then it’s Quiz time and with Davey onboard, anything is possible. To say this episode goes off the rails is putting it mildly – but on the plus side we learnt that Trent can’t hold his liquor, Ben thinks photos record sound, Space Jam was an event and Rick Moranis is Trent’s muse. So hold on for this crazy ride that also serves as a farewell for one of the team…Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Join me for an incredible extra-long conversation with one of the toy industry's most accomplished designers, Stefanie Eskander, whose remarkable career has spanned more than 45 years.Beginning as a children's illustrator before transitioning into toy design, Stefanie has worked for some of the biggest names in the business, including Mattel, Hasbro, Tonka, Fisher-Price, Play Along Toys, and Small World Toys. Her creative fingerprints can be found on some of the most beloved toys and dolls of the last four decades, including Moonglow (Rainbow Brite), Popples, Jem and the Holograms, Sweetie Pops, Maxie, MoonDreamers, Tonka Trucks, Cabbage Patch Kids, Skydancers, and so much more.Stefanie also takes us behind the scenes of one of the most fascinating eras in toy history—working at Hasbro during the legendary Jem and the Holograms vs. Barbie and the Rockers rivalry. We discuss what it was really like designing toys at major companies, juggling multiple product lines in different stages of development, and navigating the creative and corporate challenges that come with bringing iconic toys to life.We also dive into why toy and doll designers so rarely receive public recognition, the strict confidentiality surrounding unreleased projects, and the reality that many toys can spend months—or even years—in development before never making it to store shelves. Finally, we explore how the toy industry has evolved over the decades and what it's really like to build a career creating the toys that shaped generations. This is a fascinating conversation filled with incredible stories, behind-the-scenes history, and insights you won't hear anywhere else. Whether you're a lifelong collector, toy enthusiast, or simply curious about how your favorite childhood toys came to life, this is an episode you won't want to miss. This episode also marks the finale of this year's Summer Session! Thank you so much for spending your summer with me and all of my incredible guests. The company behind the new electric Slate vehicle — which has a somewhat rudimentary, Tonka-truck-like frame — is highlighting its simplicity and affordability. Next week, we're going to learn just how affordable it really is. And while some of Slate's marketing is geared toward rural and working people, the reality is that driving EVs in those areas can still be a challenge. Then, Hollywood is backsliding on diversity, but that's not true for audiences.

Today's episode starts off with an enthusiastic push to adopt dogs, spotlighting Tonka, a sweet, cuddly miniature pit bull from the Colleton County Animal Shelter. Despite a cosmetic leg issue, he's healthy, great with other animals, and in need of a home. Laura makes a passionate case for adoption or fostering, even joking about personally arranging transport. It's a genuine reminder that there are a lot of great dogs out there that need homes so adopt a dog!The conversation then gets serious turning to David Matalon, who breaks down the uncomfortable reality of modern work: remote and distributed teams are here to stay, but most companies haven't actually solved how to secure them. The old model, locked-down corporate laptops or clunky VDI setups, doesn't match how people work today. Employees are constantly moving between personal devices, hotel Wi-Fi, and public networks, often handling sensitive data in ways that leave them far more exposed than they realize.BYOD sits right at the center of that tension. David's take is that companies have been avoiding the truth for years. You can't fully control the device anymore, and trying to do so either creates major security gaps or pushes employees to work around restrictions entirely. The shift he describes is toward securing the work itself, not the hardware, using approaches like isolated workspaces that separate professional and personal activity without killing usability. It also becomes critical in the age of AI, where the real risk is employees casually moving sensitive data into personal tools without oversight. Looking ahead, Matalon predicts a pretty clear shift: the idea of company-issued laptops as the default will fade, and BYOD will become the norm. The challenge for organizations isn't whether this happens, it's whether they can secure it in a way that actually aligns with how people work.David Matalon is a five-time founder and the CEO of Venn, where he focuses on helping organizations securely support distributed and remote workforces. With a background spanning virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), endpoint security, and compliance, he has built and led multiple companies centered on delivering secure application access for modern work environments. At Venn, he introduced Blue Border™, a technology designed to create a secure, IT-controlled workspace on personal devices without sacrificing user experience or relying on traditional VDI. He holds an undergraduate degree from New York University Stern School of Business and a master's degree from Columbia University.

Scot takes us on a trip across the galaxy and comic book history as we look at what might just be the first ever comic book crossover super team. Avengers? Justice League? Never heard of em. 1162. This week, we look at why some names just "feel right" while others don't and how vowels like "ee" create associations with smallness and sweetness while back vowels like "ah" sound bigger and more serious. Then, we look at dependent clauses and when it's OK to start a sentence with "because."The baby names segment was written by Valerie Fridland.

It's another beautifully unhinged daily comedy show, and the Rizz Show crew wastes absolutely no time proving why we can't have nice things.First up: the City of St. Louis tries to do something wholesome by offering free salt at firehouses so people can prep for icy sidewalks. Sounds great, right? Wrong. Commercial trucks immediately roll in, scoop up everything like it's a Costco sample, and leave regular residents staring at empty piles wondering how humanity failed so fast. Libertarian pilot program: officially canceled. Then we shift to hockey fashion crimes as Moon gets roasted for wearing a Blues jersey that apparently doesn't meet corporate sponsor requirements. Nothing says “Stanley Cup pride” like being told to remove the most expensive shirt you own. Add cowboy hats, Monster Energy jokes, and a QuickTrip roast, and suddenly Blues Night is already off the rails.Things only escalate from there. Remember Chimp Crazy? Of course you do. Tanya Haddock is back in the news, appealing her federal prison sentence after lying about a chimp's death, hiding Tonka in a basement, and allegedly going on the run with him like some kind of primate-themed crime thriller. The crew debates whether “loving animals too much” is a legal defense while imagining U.S. Marshals finding a chimp in her prison cell. From there, it's census chaos. Missouri gained population — barely — and the crew tries (and fails) to guess how many people actually live in the state. Texas keeps stealing everyone, Idaho is apparently full of bunkers and cult vibes, and St. Louis gets dragged as one of the “ugliest cities in America” by a mystery comedian who clearly didn't hit the Zoo (it's free, by the way).We wrap with Valentine's Day pressure, lingerie shopping anxiety, nudie magazine nostalgia, and why buying your partner underwear is either romantic… or a trap.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshowConnect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MOSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards kicks off with a fiery take on living in interesting times, battling cancel culture, and fighting for unfiltered truth in Jackson, Mississippi. Joined by caller Derek, the conversation dives into personal growth, embracing stoicism inspired by Marcus Aurelius, and the importance of men stepping up as leaders—surrounding yourself with like-minded people to build strength and normalize masculinity. They touch on cultural shifts, from making testosterone great again to the upside-down food pyramid and the need for real masculine role models like GI Joes and Tonka trucks. The discussion shifts to modern challenges in churches, where single men feel alienated by messages focused on family leadership, and explores broader issues like pushing trade schools over college for everyone. Clay addresses the recent synagogue arson by a young man from Madison, examining how online radicalization—possibly tied to manosphere content—twists self-improvement into antisemitism, and calls for getting this under control without infringing on free speech. Later, Clay tackles the bribery scandal involving Hinds County DA Jody Owens, who claims entrapment by the FBI, and questions if others like former Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba will follow suit. The episode heats up with a deep dive into the Supreme Court hearing on transgender athletes in women's sports, featuring audio from Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's questioning and reactions from callers like Lindsay Beckham. They slam the absurdity of redefining gender, the slippery slope of locker room access, and how figures like Riley Gaines are standing up for women's rights. Clay argues common sense must prevail, suggesting a WNBA scenario with a transgender player could flip the narrative. Wrapping up with listener texts and calls on youth radicalization, Clay emphasizes America First priorities while rejecting blanket hatred. Strap in for raw, no-holds-barred talk on culture, politics, and reclaiming common sense.

Shadi Hamid joins to discuss his new book, The Case for American Power, arguing that progressives' retreat from global engagement is a mistake. He contends that while the Left often views U.S. hegemony as intrinsically immoral—citing the legacy of Iraq and the tragedy in Gaza—the alternative of withdrawal often leads to greater atrocities, such as the unchecked devastation in Syria. Hamid makes the case that moral righteousness without power is toothless, and that ceding the global stage to bad actors or rival superpowers creates a more dangerous world. Plus, Mike critiques the Sunday show trend of grilling Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the price of bananas and Tonka trucks, arguing that "gotcha" questions about specific items ignore the reality of inflation as a composite number. Your Natural Dog with Angela Ardolino - Formerly It's A Dog's Life
In this episode of Your Natural Dog, Angela Ardolino is joined by holistic pet health coach Naja Muller of Tonka's Journey and Green Paws Holistic Pet Care. Naja shares how she's helped her handicapped and chronically challenged dogs stay comfortable, mobile, and joyful using a holistic pain management toolkit, without relying on long-term pharmaceuticals. Angela and Naja dive into the five pain pathways, why conventional pain meds often lead to stacking multiple drugs with serious side effects, and how whole-plant cannabis, psilocybin, nutrition, and at-home therapies can work together to support dogs living with pain.Episode Recap:Angela introduces Naja Muller, Tonka's Journey and sets the stage for a deep dive into chronic pain, handicapped dogs, and holistic pain support. (00:00)They break down the five pain-signaling pathways and explain how conventional drugs usually target just one, while cannabis and other botanicals can influence multiple pathways at once. (03:13)Naja shares her dog Tripp's osteosarcoma story, how conventional pain meds quickly caused severe constipation, and how switching to high-THC and CBD plus a wheelchair transformed his final six months. (05:17)Naja shares about her dog Tonka's congenital deformities, and how she committed early to a holistic pain plan instead of cycling through combinations of dog pain meds and their side effects. (07:19)They discuss their shared experiences using full extract cannabis (THC-rich oil) and CBD for pain support in dogs, including why whole-plant cannabis works differently than pharmaceuticals and practical tips for balancing THC and CBD for comfort without heavy sedation. (09:45)Angela and Naja unpack the problem with NSAIDs, opioids, steroids, Librela and other popular pain drugs for dogs, highlighting issues like gut damage, liver and kidney strain, and long-term fallout. (13:50)Why the conversation should actually be about being proactive with food and lifestyle, rather than adding more synthetic supplements and pharmaceuticals. Naja shares her go-to foods for joint support and inflammation. (18:24)Angela discusses the need to reframe hemp, functional mushrooms and adaptogens as functional food, rather than “supplements”, stressing clean sourcing, COAs, and why real liquid mushroom extracts beat cheap powders with fillers. (21:02)Naja shares the at-home modalities she uses with her dogs, including light therapy, infrared and PEMF mats, cold laser, tuning forks, Reiki, ozone and bodywork, to support comfort and recovery. (26:49)Naja describes her own experience microdosing psilocybin, then using it with Tonka, and the subtle but noticeable shifts she saw in his mobility, reactivity and emotional balance over time. (32:42)They close by urging pet parents not to blindly trust every prescription, to learn the real risks of dog pain meds and steroids, and to build proactive, “do no harm” holistic pain plans that protect quality of life.
