Conversations with Maryjane hosted by Jill Franquelli is based around the power of sharing one's story to end stigma and create understanding. Conversations with Maryjane will feature bold and frank conversations surrounding medical cannabis and the community that inspires Jill so much.
Ed found the power of cannabis as a result of a Parkinson’s diagnosis. Like most individuals treating conditions, Ed needed a particular strain, in a particular dose, all the while being a clean medicine. Out of an understanding of what the medical cannabis patient needs, District Cannabis was born. However, Ed has a past and it involves Ronald Reagan, a name that causes more than just an eyebrow raise to anyone who knows even a little about the War on Drugs. While I am left with more questions about Ed and his thoughts on what fair and equitable future in cannabis looks like and what the license holder’s role is in correcting the past and the damage, I felt like this was a great start. This interview is a great look into what a license holder thinks the place of “the legacy market” is in the now “legalized market.” “They” belong in the ancillary businesses. From their mouths they will say “we are only where we are today because of them,” and yet, that is not reflected in their actions. This is not the first time I have heard this sentiment. I took a class fall of 2018 at AACC. The class was Cannabis and Entrepreneurship. There, week after week I listened to license holders echo a very similar sentiment. You can listen to old podcasts of them saying exactly how they feel about us. I am hopeful that Ed is one of those true cases of a changed heart that leads to greater action. Enjoy the conversation.
On this episode I talk to Patrick Wilson founder of Anteedote X Consulting. Patrick’s mission is to connect the cannabis community while providing education, compassion, and empathy.
The magic of cannabis comes when you figure out what combinations of terpenes and cannabinoids work for you. It was a few months into my cannabis journey when someone taught me the art of journaling. I just used my notepad on my phone and while it worked, I was missing important information like Batch Number and a picture of the flower. Tetragram does exactly what my notepad can’t! Enjoy this conversation with Otha Smith III CEO and founder of Tetragram.

Today is a very special episode! I invited 24 of my friends to sesh with me and we shared our most favorite cannabis moments. After 3 days of stories, my heart was full and fuel was added to my fire. In this episode we welcome Karly Ziegler. 4/20 - not only the day but the entire month of April 2020 - was poised to be one giant celebration of cannabis. We know the power of coming together and passing the joint to the left. That connection we feel standing among new friends is something that I’m missing, especially this week! One reminder as we celebrate this week: we have brothers and sisters that sit in jail and prison for the very plant that has now been deemed ‘essential’. We must get back to fighting for the legislation and laws that reverse the decades worth of damage! Happy 420 everyone!

In the first year of the Medical Cannabis Program in Maryland there were an estimated 84,000 lbs of polypropylene in the form of cannabis containers passed from the industry to the patients. All of which would end up in the landfills and waterways. In this episode of Conversations with Maryjane we speak to Phil Ash co-founder of The High 5 Initiative. Phil shares with us how a simple question led to a non-profit dedicated to ensuring that the cannabis industry specifically does not continue to contribute to an ever-growing waste crisis. Conversations with MaryJane welcomes James Hyland to chat about “What We Feed Ourselves.” After working 15 years in finance, he recently left to follow his inner calling. Having suffered from chronic illness and been diagnosed with an "incurable" back disease he was told he should expect a life of medications, multiple surgeries, and even a wheelchair. Knowing there had to be a better way, he healed himself through deep work in holistic methods and is now sharing that natural approach to medicine with others. James works with people suffering from chronic pain and illnesses to regain their sense of self and vitality by creating shifts to their daily habits and mindset through 1x1 coaching, workshops, and retreats. Today James is the Chief Innovator and Holistic Lifestyle Coach at SparkVision. Not to mention my Wellness Coach and Friend!
