Listen without ads on patreon - www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast SUMMARY This week on the Dopey Total Replay, Dave returns from his summer hiatus and previews the family's Pacific Northwest adventure, the upcoming Patreon Zoom, and the big decision facing DopeyCon: Friday night at the SVA Theatre or Saturday at the old church.   Then we travel back to Dopey Episode 37 for a classic conversation with Dave and Chris. They talk about sponsorship, working the steps, honesty, spirituality, and the strange miracle of one addict helping another. Dave tells the story of Jerry Garcia using a radio interview to summon drugs after the Grateful Dead's package went missing in Philadelphia, plus tales of John Lennon's psychedelic excess and Paul McCartney's alleged plan to smuggle Owsley acid inside camera equipment.   Things get progressively dopier as Dave remembers stealing fried chicken and vodka at a company party, while Chris describes shooting cocaine in Anguilla, hallucinating benevolent Rastas hiding in the bushes, chasing an imaginary car around an abandoned house, and eventually being rescued from Saint Martin by his brother.   Finally, Dave recounts smuggling six bundles of heroin into Jamaica, burning through nearly everything, passing out on Valium during a press trip, and repeatedly sneaking into first class while withdrawing on the flight home. Beneath all the insanity, Dave and Chris reflect on the possession of addiction, the freedom of sobriety, and the strange comfort of no longer needing drugs to feel safe.   Stay strong, Dopey Nation, and fucking toodles for Chris.   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. God's word is like the rain that waters the earth and brings forth vegetation. It is also like the sower who scatters seed indiscriminately. Our lives are like seeds sown in the earth. Even from what appears to be little, dormant, or dead, God promises a harvest. At the Lord's table we are fed with the bread of life, that we may bear fruit in the world.Scripture Readings: Isaiah 55:10-13; Romans 8:1-11; Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

When the disciples cried out, “Lord, increase our faith,” Jesus pointed them to something small, stubborn, and invasive: the mustard seed. In the ancient world, mustard was not a polite herb, it was a weed that spread everywhere once it took root. That is what real faith looks like. It does not stay safe or ornamental. It disrupts, it grows, it takes over.In this message, Rev. Shawn Garan explores Luke 17:5–10, the surprising cultural background of the mustard seed, and what it means for us to nurture a living, persistent faith. Faith is not about quantity but about nature. Faith is Dory saying, “Just keep swimming.” Faith is William Wallace crying, “They may take our lives, but they cannot take our freedom.” Faith is Churchill declaring, “Never, never, never give up.”Join us as we discover that mustard-seed faith may be small, but it will not be stopped.

This week on the Dan Caplis Show, we're tackling some of the most pressing issues facing our country and state. From election integrity to the impact of legalized marijuana, our host is not holding back on his thoughts and opinions. If you're looking for a dose of reality and a healthy dose of skepticism, you're in the right place. This episode covers a range of topics, from the media's role in shaping public opinion to the consequences of Colorado's decision to legalize marijuana. Our host shares his thoughts on the importance of election integrity and how the media's manipulation of information can have a significant impact on the outcome of elections. He also delves into the issue of marijuana use among teenagers and the potential consequences of legalization. One of the most striking aspects of this episode is the host's candid discussion of the Democratic Party's approach to election integrity and voter ID laws. He argues that the party's opposition to voter ID is motivated by a desire to maintain their power and influence, rather than a genuine concern for the rights of voters. He also touches on the issue of same-day voting and the potential for voter fraud. If you're interested in hearing more of our host's thoughts on these critical issues, tune in to this episode of the Dan Caplis Show. With his signature blend of humor and straight talk, he's not afraid to tackle the tough topics and offer his unique perspective.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to The Turf Zone podcast. This episode features the article “Keeping the Game Green: Fall Overseeding Sports Fields” written by David Lawrence with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. For many turf managers, fall marks a welcome transition time when cooler temperatures slow turf growth and the frantic pace of summer maintenance finally eases. The start of the fall season often brings a sense of relief and satisfaction as turf maintains its green color without the surge of growth that demands constant mowing and management. For some, it's a rare chance to pause, reflect on the successes and challenges of the summer, and prepare for the months ahead. However, not everyone gets to slow down. For many sports field managers, fall is one of the busiest times of the year. Football season is in full swing, and fields endure relentless stress from practices, games, and unpredictable weather. While most fans focus on the players and the scoreboard, turfgrass professionals can't help but notice the condition and aesthetic appeal of the playing surfaces when attending a game or watching on television. Beyond appearances, turf managers know that the quality of the surface directly affects player safety. Dense, healthy turf cushions impact, reduces divots and holes, and helps minimize the risk of slips and injuries. One of the most effective ways to maintain both aesthetics and playability during this demanding stretch is through overseeding bermudagrass fields with perennial ryegrass. Across the southeastern U.S., bermudagrass growth slows dramatically in the fall as temperatures drop and daylength shortens, limiting the plant's ability to recover from traffic and wear. Even during milder years, reduced sunlight and cooler nights simply don't allow bermudagrass to sustain vigorous growth and recover after the pounding of a typical football season. That's where perennial ryegrass shines. Its deep-green color, fine texture, and excellent striping potential make it the go-to choice for achieving high-quality field appearance. Beyond visual appeal, perennial ryegrass establishes quickly, provides dense coverage, and enhances traction, all key factors in maintaining safe and consistent playing conditions. A well-established ryegrass overseed offers a stable, even surface that keeps athletes confident in their footing throughout the season. Most athletic field managers begin overseeding in mid-September, adjusting timing based on local climate and field schedules. Typical seeding rates range from 8 to 12 pounds per 1,000 square feet, with periodic supplemental applications to fill divots and high-wear zones such as between hash marks and along sidelines. Proper irrigation and fertility management are critical during establishment. It's important to provide consistent moisture to promote uniform germination, while avoiding excessive wetness that could compromise field conditions during play. Managers should also monitor soil temperatures closely, as seeding too early can stress young ryegrass, while seeding too late can delay establishment as cooler weather sets in. Of course, overseeding comes with challenges. Weed management requires careful planning to avoid damaging both ryegrass and the underlying bermudagrass. Annual bluegrass (Poa annua) remains one of the most persistent issues on overseeded fields. Herbicide options are limited, and success depends heavily on timing for both pre-emergent and post-emergent applications. Precision and patience are essential for achieving control while minimizing damage to desirable turf species. The following provides examples of commonly used products, though it does not represent a complete list of all labeled options. Pre-emergent herbicides such as prodiamine or pronamide can be applied prior to overseeding but must be applied several weeks before the expected overseed date to allow time for herbicide degradation before seeding. Some sulfonylurea herbicides such as foramsulfuron or rimsulfuron can be applied one week prior to overseeding. These products that can be used do not have any pre-emergent activity but will control any annual bluegrass that has already germinated. This application can be beneficial especially when the overseeding date is later into the fall after annual bluegrass germination. Post-emergent options for overseeded turf include ethofumesate, amicarbazone, paclobutrazol, and bispyribac. These products can be temperature dependent so careful planning should be considered when making an application. Some PGRs such as ethephon can reduce or prevent seedhead formation on annual bluegrass when applied at the proper time. Applicators should read all herbicide labels to ensure turfgrass safety while providing the best opportunity for annual bluegrass control. Another management hurdle arises during spring transition. If not carefully managed, perennial ryegrass can delay bermudagrass green-up, leading to thin, uneven turf. Many managers opt for chemical removal of ryegrass once bermudagrass begins active growth, though the timing varies depending on field use and athletic schedules. Sulfonylurea herbicides are commonly used for ryegrass transition. However, due to the increased incidence of ALS herbicide resistance, many managers may need to rely on other products such as pronamide for ryegrass transition if annual bluegrass is present. The goal is to remove ryegrass early enough to allow bermudagrass to recover, yet late enough to maintain playability for spring sports. When managed thoughtfully, fall overseeding with perennial ryegrass delivers multiple benefits such as enhanced color, improved traction, extended playability, and safer, more resilient fields. It's not just about keeping the turf green when bermudagrass slows down; it's about protecting players, preserving field quality, and ensuring that every game, practice, and play happens on a quality surface. For many sports field managers, overseeding is not simply a seasonal task but a key component of year-round field performance and visual quality. You have been listening to The Turf Zone Podcast. The Reality of CHS and the 1,100+ Patient Study Dr. Peterson highlights the scope of his landmark survey, which gathered data from 1,134 CHS sufferers. The study reveals that CHS is not an acute reaction to a single session, but rather a chronic, low-level dysregulation of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) that predominantly impacts heavy, long-term consumers. Frequency of Use: 96.5% of study participants consumed cannabis daily, and 45% consumed more than six times per day. The "Buoy" Metaphor: Dr. Peterson explains the ECS as a master regulatory buoy. While occasional cannabis use gently nudges the buoy, chronic high-dose THC overstimulation completely knocks it over, triggering the cyclical vomiting state. Vapes vs. Flower: The Onset Timeline One of the most significant findings of the paper is how the method of inhalation changes how quickly CHS develops. Vaporizing: Exclusive vapers reported symptoms starting within 1 to 2 years of beginning use. Smoking Flower: Flower smokers took significantly longer to develop CHS, with the most common timeline being 10 years or more. Debunking the Pesticide and Neem Oil Myths A popular theory in the cannabis community is that CHS is actually pesticide or neem oil poisoning. Dr. Peterson challenges this theory using clinical toxicology: The Sourcing Data: Sufferers in the study reported identical CHS symptoms regardless of whether they got their weed from licensed dispensaries, illicit sources, or their own pesticide-free home grows. Neem Oil Toxicity: Ingesting neem oil causes immediate nausea, alongside severe clinical signs like liver damage, seizures, and brain swelling—none of which are observed in CHS patients. Pesticide Toxidromes: Known pesticide exposures (like organophosphates) present with highly specific chemical "toxidromes" that look nothing like cyclical vomiting. Gender Differences in Symptom Severity The study revealed a stark contrast in how CHS manifests between sexes: Men: Frequently reported shorter hyperemetic episodes, often lasting only 1 day. Women: Suffered statistically longer and more severe episodes, with the most common duration being 3 to 5 days, and over 10% suffering for 10 or more days of continuous vomiting. Recognizing the Prodrome and Navigating Recovery The Prodrome Phase: This early warning phase involves morning nausea, abdominal pain, heartburn, and hot/cold flashes. It can linger in the background for years before a full vomiting episode occurs. The Path to Healing: While the clinical textbook demands absolute abstinence, Dr. Peterson shares real-world data showing how patients actually navigate recovery, the limitations of hot baths as temporary relief, and the potential future role of minor cannabinoids like CBG for harm reduction. Chad and Natalie sit down with Matt Bowyer, the Orange County bookie at the center of the Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal, for the full story behind the headlines. Matt ran one of the largest illegal sports betting operations in the country for over 30 years. At his peak he had 1,250 clients nationwide, 48 agents, and processed over $1 billion in wagers in 2023 alone. He was also betting millions of his own money because gambling was his addiction and he was the house getting high on his own supply. The feds raided him twice. The first time was 2014, 14 agents, his daughter crying in the driveway, coming home from losing $800,000 in Vegas on March Madness. The case didn't start with Ohtani. The feds didn't even know about Ohtani. The case started with casino money laundering, led to Matt, and then his electronics told the rest of the story. He grew up watching his Vietnam vet father drink 40 beers a day until his mom divorced him after three failed rehabs. By 13 he was the top newspaper salesman in Orange County. At 16 he had a poker ring running out of his house. At 18, with his girlfriend pregnant and the family in a Dana Point mobile home, he got hired as a busboy at Chevys, got recruited to a commodities brokerage, passed the Series 3 exam as a mail boy, and was making $600,000 a year at 21. He bought back the house his family had lost. Then he got tired of giving his money to bookies. He currently owes $9.7 million in taxes at $60,000 a month in interest. Tax lien on his $5 million home. Two years probation, mandatory Gamblers Anonymous, mandatory drug dealer classes every week. And a new book dropping called Controlled Chaos. #TheHopeaholics #redemption #recovery #AlcoholAddiction #AddictionRecovery #wedorecover #SobrietyJourney #MyStory #Hope #wedorecover #treatmentcenter #natalieevamarieJoin our patreon to get access to an EXTRA EPISODE every week of ‘Off the Record', exclusive content, a thriving recovery community, and opportunities to be featured on the podcast. https://patreon.com/TheHopeaholics Go to www.Wolfpak.com today and support our sponsors. This episode of Chasing Heroin features John Nettles, host of Recovery Refined and a team member at Refine Recovery in LA. Adopted at four days old and raised in St. Louis, John started using young. Weed at 13, blackout drinking by 15, and a benzo prescription at 16 that fueled an addiction lasting well over a decade. He got into the rave and EDM scene, became a DJ, and started a promotion company, all while his drug use kept escalating into cocaine, Xanax, and eventually a move to Chico, CA to grow weed and "start over," which didn't work.He cycled through multiple treatment stints starting at 24, including two trips to Sierra Tucson, each one followed by a relapse. A DUI, other legal trouble, and a series of increasingly dangerous blackouts (including one at his grandmother's house in Rhode Island) finally pushed him to call a sober coach who leveled with him bluntly: he'd never actually been sober, only abstinent. That call led him to Refine Recovery at 29, where, for the first time, treatment stuck. He talks candidly about getting a sponsor, doing the steps, and rebuilding his life from the ground up, plus how he stumbled into working in treatment and later launching his own podcast. He also opens up about finding his birth mother through an AncestryDNA test in his mid twenties, and the surprisingly close relationship they've built since, including meeting his half brother and starting a new family Thanksgiving tradition.Today's episode is brought to you by Seasons in Malibu. If you enjoy long-form comedy podcasts, behind-the-scenes stories from stand-up comics, weird internet rabbit holes, and unfiltered conversations, you're in the right place. Jared Callahan grew up in New York with a father who was an illegal marijuana grower — and when your dad runs the operation getting brought into the business isn't a choice it's a family tradition. By his teens Jared was already selling pot and by the time he was fully in he was moving pounds and running a serious flipping operation that brought in real money. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Jared tells the complete story — from growing up with a marijuana growing father to getting into the business as a teenager to his first arrest and New York state prison sentence to getting out and trying to stay straight until a probation violation pulled him back in. Then the feds picked up the case and federal prison followed. _____________________________________________ #arrest #prison #truecrimestories _____________________________________________ Connect with Jared Callahan: https://www.facebook.com/share/1BeDSQfkAZ/?mibextid=wwXIfr _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Teen Who Discovered His Dad's Drug Operation — Then Built His Own Empire — Full Story 01:28 How He First Discovered What His Father Was Really Running 03:54 Getting Drawn Into the Drug World as a Teenager and What That Really Looked Like 05:50 His First Deals and the Friendships That Changed Everything 08:40 The Escalation From Small Time to Major Player and What That Required 13:03 How His Brother Got Pulled In and the Family Impact That Followed 18:24 Street Life and the Near Death Encounters That Should Have Changed Everything 25:03 His Reflections on the Consequences He Watched Pile Up Around Him 32:27 Losing His Savings the Family Fallout and What Kept Him Going Anyway 38:54 Stepping Up Operations and What Moving to That Level Really Involved 46:42 His First Arrest and What Entering New York State Prison Really Felt Like 01:01:11 Life Inside New York State Prison and What Surviving It Really Required 01:17:01 Getting Out and the Parole Struggles That Defined Life After His First Sentence 01:37:57 Going Back to the Streets and How the Federal System Started Closing In 01:47:57 Moving Serious Weight and What Operating at That Level Really Looked Like 02:03:31 The Feds Closing In and the Deal Gone Wrong That Changed Everything 02:10:32 The Federal Raid and What Facing Major Charges Really Felt Like 02:18:09 The Toughest Decision of His Life — Snitching Loyalty and Survival in Prison 02:35:41 Living With That Decision and What That Weight Really Does to a Person 02:42:03 His Release His Redemption and What Giving Back Actually Looks Like 02:48:02 The Lessons He Carries and What He Wants Everyone to Hear _____________________________________________ To advertise on the show, contact sales@advertisecast.com or visit https://advertising.libsyn.com/LockedInWithIanBicka Learn more about your ad choices.
