High-masking ND grind burning you out? In this episode of Adulting with Autism, host April tackles sustainable success for neurodivergent high-achievers with Garrett Wood, National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach/clinical hypnotherapist/executive functioning specialist and founder of Gnosis Therapy. With 18+ years helping masking professionals (autism/ADHD), Garrett's A³ Framework (Assess, Accommodate, Align) bridges nervous-system needs/environment demands—focusing on sensory intelligence/bio-budgets/emotional regulation/core beliefs/attachment/values/executive functioning to end boom-bust cycles. Key insights: High-masking exhaustion: Socialization gaps (hiding "not okay" parts); safe environments reduce friction—authentic self without danger. Sensory intelligence: Preferences/thresholds (too much/little stimulation); interoception (body cues like hunger/anxiety); accommodations (headphones/compression/breaks/sensory backpack). Bio-budgets/time under tension: ND shifts (16-18 hrs masking vs. NT 4-5 hrs); small reps/recovery (car breaks/garden/dust books) prevent overload. Autistic vs. NT burnout: Intensity/scale difference (ND extreme effort); recovery longer (6-7 months vs. quick)—focus well-being (not grit/willpower myth). Hypnotherapy: Self-hypnosis (daydream state for mindset/social/sleep); practice positive experiences (e.g., anxiety scenarios going well). A³ for control: Assess needs (triggers/supports), Accommodate (e.g., oils/masks), Align (values as guardrails); early overload signs (tension/shutdown). Workplace/young adults: Advocate (ROI from inclusion); trial/error (hot/cold days); natural responses (eat/move/sleep) over deadlines. For autistic/ADHD young adults/entrepreneurs in masking fatigue, Garrett's vibe: "Sustainable success through well-being—not expense." Free resources at gnosistherapy.com. Today, I'm bringing you a special rebroadcast of one of the most powerful conversations ever shared on the podcast. I'm joined by three extraordinary women—Leah Davidson, Lindsay Poelman, and Melanie Fay—for a rich, grounded discussion about what it truly means to take a holistic approach to transformation, both in our own lives and as coaches.Part of becoming a master coach is understanding that mindset work alone is not always enough—and that without the container of holistic coaching, it can even be detrimental to growth. In this conversation, we explore how the nervous system, emotions, and cognitive work intersect, and why a whole-person approach to coaching changes everything. We talk about what happens when insight alone isn't enough, why clients get “stuck” despite knowing what to do, and how safety, regulation, and compassion create access to deeper, more sustainable change. While this episode is very much geared toward coaches, the topics we cover are important for anyone on a personal development journey. If you're focused on your own growth, you'll gain insight into where a more holistic approach may be missing in how you're supporting yourself—and what might open up when that gap is addressed. This conversation offers a real glimpse into the holistic, ethical, and deeply human approach behind Master Coach Training. Each of these women has been instrumental in my own growth and healing, and it's an honor to share their wisdom with you. What you'll learn:How nervous system activation impacts your cognitive function and decision-making abilitiesWhy feeling safe in the body is what allows intuition to be heard and trustedHow learning to stay present with big emotions creates a new default response instead of shutting downWhy self-criticism is often a sign of nervous system overwhelm–not a mindset failureThe ethical line between coaching and therapy, and how the two can coexistYou can read the full show notes here.About Melanie FayMelanie Fay is a certified EFT practitioner and professional artist based in New York. When life shatters through unimaginable loss, how do you begin again? In this powerful and heartfelt conversation, grief and wellness coach Tina Weller shares how losing both her husband and son led her to redefine purpose and transform her pain into healing for others. Blending her background in psychology, energy healing, and decades of hospice work, Tina reveals how "easing into the new you" is not about forgetting what was—but learning to live forward while carrying love and memory with grace. From turning a shuttle bus once used for her son's care into the "Miracle Bus" that now carries her mission of hope across the U.S., Tina's story reminds us that even through grief, we can find clarity, courage, and connection again. Through vulnerability and wisdom, Tina invites others to honor their emotions, say their loved ones' names, and accept that healing is not linear. Her compassionate message urges us to take one small step at a time toward rediscovering ourselves after loss—and to remember that it's never too late to begin again. Key Takeaways Healing begins with accepting that life has changed forever while still cherishing what was. Support systems, including faith and community, play a vital role in navigating grief. Offering practical help—rather than just asking "what do you need?"—is a powerful way to comfort the bereaved. Transformation often comes from service: turning one's personal loss into support for others. Saying a loved one's name keeps their memory alive and eases the fear of forgetting. About the Guest: Tina Weller is a Grief and Wellness Coach who walks beside those navigating life after profound personal loss. Having lost both her husband and her son, Tina has transformed her own heartbreak into a mission of hope. With a background in psychology, coaching, and energy healing, she helps others find clarity, purpose, and the courage to embrace what's next while honoring what was. Her work is deeply compassionate, powerful, and personal. Book a Discovery Call with Tina: https://journeywithgoodthings.com/ About the Host: Adele Anderson, an NLP Trainer, Homeopath, and Life and Death Coach, is a captivating speaker and grief resilience expert with a unique perspective on navigating profound loss. At the age of 27, Adele survived a plane crash, an experience she often describes as easier than facing the challenges of becoming a widow. Drawing from her personal journey, Adele explores the transformative impact of loss on one's ideals, emphasizing five key changes that individuals often undergo. She delves into the re-evaluation of success, the cultivation of empathy and compassion, the newfound appreciation for the present moment, the reassessment of life's priorities, and the discovery of resilience and strength in grief. Having navigated the complex emotions of loss, Adele shares her holistic approach to healing. As an advocate for optimizing physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, she integrates high-quality supplements, NLP techniques for empowered decision-making, and ancient spiritual practices to deepen soul connection. Adele's story is one of resilience, inner peace, and purpose. She believes that even in the depths of grief, life offers opportunities for growth and transformation. Hey Team! Today I'm joined by Alex Bellitter, Senior Manager of Coaching at Shimmer, an ADHD coaching platform that's guided over 75,000 sessions. If this sounds a bit familiar, I also did an interview with Shimmer's CEO, Chris Wang, last year - but of course in this episode, we're covering a lot more and while Shimmer is mentioned it certainly isn't the focus of what we're talking about here. But back to who we're talking with today. Alex holds a Master's in Psychology and is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She's passionate about building a neuroinclusive approach to coaching and helping people redefine what success looks like for their unique brains. We get into what burnout really looks like for ADHD brains and how the “grind it out” mindset backfires every time. Alex shares how resilience isn't about powering through and we also unpack the ideas of capacity, how we burn through future energy, and why rest, play, and flexibility are actually key parts of productivity. Plus, we get into ADHD inertia, smart scaffolding, and that tricky process of rediscovering your strengths when your brain insists you don't have any. But leaving unscheduled blocks gives us breathing room and time for the unexpected. This means it's important that we're making sure keep at least some white space on our calendars. We can fall into the trap of treating rest like a reward for finishing everything, but rest is part of the system that keeps us going. Taking time to rest isn't laziness; it's maintenance that we sorely need. External structure, such as reminders, alarms, notes, and accountability partners, can often help ADHD brains thrive, but a lot of us carry shame around using these supports. We're not “cheating” the system by building one that works for us. These scaffoldings allow us to grow stronger over time without collapsing under pressure by giving us the support we need.

What if midlife isn't the beginning of the end, but the spark of something extraordinary? This week, I'm joined by Lisa Murphy, a certified Life & Wellness Coach and founder of the @50ForwardClub. After more than 20 years in magazines and digital media, Lisa made a bold pivot to help midlife women create intentional, fulfilling, and joyful lives. In this conversation, we dive into the stories we tell ourselves about aging — and how to rewrite them. Lisa shares how she got sober, learned to understand (not just “feel”) her fears, and started building a vibrant community that celebrates what's possible after 50. From challenging internalized ageism to finding joy on the dance floor, Lisa reminds us that it's never too late to change your story.
