Play Episode Listen Later Jun 30, 2026 39:15

In this episode, Michelle sits down with Women's Wellness Coach Samantha Chandler for a conversation that may completely shift the way you think about iron, blood loss, and your body's wisdom. If you've been told you have low iron or low ferritin, especially while trying to conceive or during pregnancy, this episode offers a perspective that is rarely shared in mainstream care. Samantha walks us through how iron actually moves in the body, why bloodwork can be misleading, and why so many women are taking iron supplements without truly absorbing them. She explains the role of copper, vitamin A in the form of retinol, and ceruloplasmin in regulating iron, and why the body recycles iron rather than needing more of it from supplements. We also explore how heavy periods, postpartum hemorrhage, fatigue, hair loss, and even thyroid issues can all be connected to iron not moving properly through the system. This conversation is a beautiful reminder that the body is intelligent, that symptoms are messages, and that real healing often comes from supporting the body's natural rhythms rather than overriding them. Key Takeaways: • Why low iron on bloodwork does not always mean the body is actually low in iron • How copper, ceruloplasmin, and vitamin A in the form of retinol work together to move iron through the body • Why iron-fortified foods and iron supplements can interfere with the body's natural ability to recycle iron • The role of blood loss as one of the body's primary ways of regulating iron • How heavy periods, hair changes, fatigue, anxiety, and skin issues can all point back to iron dysregulation • Why whole food sources like beef liver, cod liver oil, and adrenal cocktails support the body better than synthetic supplements • A grounding reminder that the body is always communicating, and symptoms are messengers, not malfunctions Guest Bio: Samantha Chandler, also known as Wellness & Womb, is a Women's Wellness Coach who focuses on iron's movement in the body. Many women are told they are low in iron, but as Samantha teaches, low iron in the blood does not mean iron is low in the body. She coaches clients, health providers, and doctors on how iron actually moves so they can get to the root of the issues women are experiencing in their health. Samantha has worked with over one hundred women and consistently sees transformative results, all without iron supplements or iron infusions. Does dinnertime feel like the most stressful part of your day? Maybe your toddler refuses dinner, takes three bites and declares they're done, or suddenly becomes ravenous right as you're starting the bedtime routine.  Allison is joined by pediatric dietitian Kathy O'Bryan to discuss one of the biggest sources of stress for parents of toddlers: mealtime. Kathy shares practical strategies to help parents take the pressure off dinnertime, understand what normal toddler eating actually looks like, and build healthy feeding habits that support both nutrition and family connection. Together, Allison and Kathy discuss why parents shouldn't put all of their eggs in the dinnertime basket, how daycare schedules can affect evening eating habits, and why a successful meal isn't always measured by how much your child eats. They also explore the connection between feeding, sleep, routines, and reducing the mental load that so many parents carry around meals. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why toddlers often eat less at dinner than parents expect • How to evaluate your child's nutrition over days and weeks, not individual meals • What "successful" mealtimes really look like • How to reduce pressure around picky eating • Why family meals matter even when life feels busy • Simple ways to make dinnertime feel less stressful and more connected • How your own nutrition and self-care affect your parenting Whether you're navigating picky eating, dinnertime battles, or simply wondering if your toddler is eating enough, this conversation will leave you feeling more confident and less stressed. Sometimes solving a child's sleep struggle requires a full reset. And sometimes, it's just one small missing piece. Allison shares four real client sleep stories that highlight how one simple change completely shifted a child's sleep. From newborn naps to bedtime protests to nighttime wakings, each family had a different challenge, but in every case, one specific adjustment made a surprisingly big difference. Allison walks through: How restructuring daytime naps helped a newborn start getting longer stretches of sleep at night Why giving a toddler permission to cry actually stopped bedtime protests The power of "special time" and how one small language shift helped reduce evening meltdowns How using simple language helped a preschooler stop waking her parents overnight Allison explains why sleep puzzles are unique and how understanding your child's temperament, rhythms, and emotional needs can often reveal the missing piece. If your child's sleep feels stuck right now, this episode may help you think about the problem in a completely different way.  And if you want more help, Allison and her team are always available for free 15 minute consultations. The Hormone Genius Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later May 6, 2026 46:49

In this episode of The Hormone Genius Podcast, we sit down with Jen Winkler—wife, homeschooling mom, and functional health and hormone coach—for a deeply honest and hope-filled conversation about what it really looks like to heal the female body. After years of doing everything “right,” Jen still found herself struggling with epilepsy, PCOS, insulin resistance, and anxiety. Like so many women, she followed the conventional advice—yet her symptoms persisted. Instead of settling, she went deeper. Through studying nutrition, hormones, and metabolic health, Jen began to shift her approachfrom controlling and restricting her body to actually supporting it. That shift changed everything. Under medical supervision, Jen was able to reverse many of her symptoms and even reduce her epilepsy medication. But her story doesn't stop there. One of the most powerful parts of her journey has been learning how to reintroduce foods she once feared, especially carbohydrates and witnessing the transformation in her gut health, metabolism, and overall hormonal balance. Through before-and-after gut testing, she saw firsthand how the body responds when it's nourished instead of deprived. Now, as a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach and Functional Blood Chemistry Specialist, Jen helps women step away from rigid diet rules, like extreme keto or carnivore and move toward a more balanced, whole-food approach that supports long-term healing. This episode challenges the idea that restriction equals health, and instead invites women into a more sustainable, personalized way of living. We also address a major gap in women's healthcare: the over-reliance on hormonal birth control as a first-line solution. Jen shares why she believes most hormonal imbalances can be addressed at the root without defaulting to suppression, and how Natural Family Planning offers women a real, effective alternative for avoiding pregnancy. In this episode, we cover: Jen's journey through epilepsy, PCOS, insulin resistance, and anxiety Why “doing everything right” still wasn't enough—and what changed The connection between metabolism, hormones, and overall health Transitioning out of restrictive diets like keto and carnivore Why reintroducing carbohydrates can support thyroid, gut, and hormonal health What gut testing can reveal, and how her results dramatically improved How symptoms act as signals, not problems to silence Supporting insulin resistance and PCOS through a root-cause approach Jen also shares her work helping women navigate complex hormonal challenges, including insulin resistance, PCOS, and metabolic dysfunction and you can read more by checking out Natural Womanhoods article on this topic here: https://naturalwomanhood.org/intermittent-fasting-for-pcos/ This conversation is for the woman who feels stuck… Who has tried the diets, followed the rules, and still isn't seeing results. If your conference agenda has back-to-back sessions with 10-minute breaks, you may be actively working against your own objectives. This week, Rachel sits down with event wellness strategist David T. Stevens live at the Northwest Event Show for a conversation on why wellness at events is actually business strategy.David breaks down his Four M's framework: mindfulness, movement, meals, and meaning. He explains how what you feed attendees at 8am directly determines whether they can pay attention by 10:30. He shares Oxford research linking employee wellbeing to stock performance, makes the case for cutting sessions from 60 to 40 minutes, and explains what the "forgetting curve" means for how your attendees retain (or don't retain) what they just heard. This episode is for anyone that gathers humans together, not just event professionals.About guest David T. Stevens:David T Stevens, PMED, WITT-AP is an event wellness architect. Founding member of the WITT Standards Advisory Committee. Harvard Medical School Lifestyle Medicine and Wellness Coach. Co-founder of Olympian Meeting and host of Return on Wellness. I have collaborated with Dr. Bettina Borisch, Executive Director of the World Federation of Public Health Associations, who stated on my show that what we call “wellness at events” is in fact public health.About host Rachel Horgan:Rachel is an independent event producer, emcee and entrepreneur. If you're a coach who's wondering whether you can really build a thriving coaching business while working full-time, raising a family, and starting from scratch - this conversation is for you. Jenny Pena did it, and she's sharing exactly how.If you're new to my channel, my name is Debbie Shadid. I'm a Business Growth and Life Coach and the founder of the Business Building Boutique. For over two decades, I've helped women learn how to become coaches, get clients, grow their businesses, and create meaningful income doing work they love.Jenny is a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach who helps busy professionals lower their A1C, balance blood sugar, and ditch the cravings and brain fog, without extreme diets or hours at the gym. She joined the Business Building Boutique with a passion for coaching but no real structure, and within months she had a website, a podcast, monthly workshops, paying clients, and corporate lunch-and-learn partnerships. Her story is proof that when you treat your coaching like a business, and follow a roadmap, momentum follows. In this episode, we'll walk through:- How Jenny went from finance professional to founding Gen P Coaching after her own health journey with PCOS and pre-diabetes- Why "I have a coaching company" became the mindset shift that opened new doors (including a neighbor who became a corporate client)- How she built her business in just 6 hours a week while working full-time and raising her son- Why workshops became her #1 client conversion tool, and how she uses them- The "fearless" word-of-the-year that pushed her to launch a podcast, host monthly workshops, and partner with doctors- How she powered through the program in one week of focused work and built a 12-month plan from there- Why niching down into pre-diabetes (instead of trying to help everyone) actually attracted MORE of the right clientsIf you've been holding back because you don't have a "perfect" website, a giant audience, or unlimited time - Jenny's story will show you what's possible when you commit to the right structure and stop waiting for everything to be ready. You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need a roadmap and the willingness to take action.Connect with Jenny Pena: Website: https://www.jennypena.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachjenpPath to Better A1C Podcast: https://www.jennypena.com/podcastYoutube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@coachjenpConnect with me, Debbie Shadid: Website: https://www.debbieshadid.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/debbieshadid/Podcast: Life Coach Business Building School https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/life-coach-business-building-school-with-debbie-shadid/id1502118085Subscribe for weekly episodes on building your coaching business, finding clients, and creating the life you actually want: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz6RS8kQGMLJqJrK9uKdjtgIf this episode was helpful, share it with a coach who's been waiting for theTired of spinning in indecision about what to post, how to sell your coaching, or explain what you do?
