Dhai Aakhar - Poetry of Life

There are stories and stories within stories in Mahabharat. In this series, I will talk about lesser told stories of Mahabharat and some reflections on 'what could have been'. Today's story is of Bheeshma when Bheeshma kidnaps Amba, Ambika, Ambalika (princesses of Kashi) for the Kuru prince Vichitravirya. While Ambika and Ambalika get married to Vichitravirya, Amba refuses. Amba was in love with prince Salva but couldn't marry him and now she wants to marry Bheeshma. In this episode, we talk about what could be going through the mind of Bheeshma in such a tricky situation. This is his own introspection and a battle with his own values where he feels an invisible attachment with Amba. The story has been taken from "Bandhan", the first book of Narendra Kohli's #Mahasamar series. इस शृंखला में हम बात करेंगे महाभारत की कुछ कम सुनी, कुछ अनसुनी कहानियों पर, कुछ उसके पात्रों के मन में झाँक कर देखेंगे। पहले एपिसोड में बात है महाभारत के आरंभिक दिनों की जब भीष्म अम्बा, अम्बिका, अंबालिका का हरण कर लाए हैं। यहां बात है राजकुमारी अम्बा के साथ एक अदृश्य बन्धन की, भीष्म की उहापोह की, अंतर्द्वंद्व की, मंथन की, स्वयं से संवाद की! ये कहानी ली गई है नरेंद्र कोहली की प्रसिद्ध पुस्तक "महासमर" से, जिसके पहले भाग "बन्धन" में कई तरह के बंधनों की बातें हैं, शान्तनु का अपने मोह से बन्धन, सत्यवती का राज्य और अधिकार से बन्धन, और भीष्म तो जकड़े हुए कई प्रत्यक्ष और अदृश्य बन्धनों में... We start with a poem that serves as a warning message on Corona pandemic. The title of the poem is – “Mat Nikal” (मत निकल - Don't go out), a poem written by Sharad Gupta but wrongly recognized as one written by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, probably because of its similarity with Agnipath (अग्निपथ). Every word of the poem is spot on for today's situation, sample this:संतुलित व्यवहार कर, बन्द तू किवाड़ करघर में बैठ, इतना भी तू ना मचलमत निकल, मत निकल, मत निकल Then we read a poem written by Harivansh Rai Bachchan – Andhere ka Deepak (अंधेरे का दीपक - a lamp in the dark). This is a poem of optimism and hope, which gives a message of lighting a lamp however dark one's time may get. A ray of hope in the face of difficult and changing times. In this episode, we are reading a poem written during the initial days of the lockdown in India in 2020. Reading Two poems by Shri Sumitranandan Pant in this episode. While walking on a full moon night, I noticed the big bright yellow moon emerging from behind a dense Champa (Plumeria) tree covered with its pristine white flowers.
