Alex Lewis (@lewisalex10) is a poet and writer through his own popular newsletter “Feels Like Home” and Columbus Underground, as well as his projects like Car Window Poetry. If you're looking for a laid back conversation about why making your art for authentic reasons is enough to do them, this is the one for you! Alex is great as he shares his story of passion for writing at a young age, how he's translated that into his main creative avenue as an adult, and he shares a lot on how he's maintained that passion through lots of ups and downs and tempts of “internet fame” to take things in a different direction. We explore the balance between personal fulfillment and creating for others, navigating the pressures of sharing creative work, and the importance of staying true to your own path. Alex also shares a lot of great stuff on taking your time with your art, embracing life's ups and downs, and finding meaning in unexpected moments. ——THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY—— PromoWest Productions - @promowestlive For all upcoming shows & event info of who's coming through Columbus, OH, visit promowestlive.com or to purchase tickets directly, visit AXS.com The Scatter Joy Project - @thescatterjoyproject The Scatter Joy Project is a local Columbus nonprofit focused on fighting for mental health. He originally believes that this is only a temporary delusion, and that he will become normal in a few minutes. He then realises that he is stuck on his back and tries to wriggle out of bed and reflects on his work as a traveling salesman. He describes it as being full of "temporary and constantly changing human relationships, which never come from the heart". He sees his boss as a dictator & admits that he would leave his job would it not jeopardize his family. While trying to get out of bed, the head clerk from his job comes to check on him as he was not at the train station earlier. Gergor tries to talk with his family and the clerk, but all they can hear is strange animal like noises. Gregor eventually opens the door. The clerk on seeing him, flees the apartment, and his family is terrified of him. His father grabs a cane and a newspaper, and hits and hisses at Gregor until he is shoved back into his room. On the podcast this week, Mark Oakley reflects on “Love (III)” by George Herbert. This episode was first posted last year as part of the Church Times Poetry Podcast for Lent series. “Over my years of reading Herbert, I have come to see him as the poet who most expresses our relationship with God as a friendship,” Mark says. “Friendship requires courage enough to stop skating so quickly over our own thin ice in case we disappear through the cracks. Instead, we face the fact that we need support and connection and that, also, we have much to give as well.” The material in this podcast is taken from Mark Oakley's book The Splash of Words (Canterbury Press), winner of the 2019 Michael Ramsey Prize for Theological Writing. The Very Revd Dr Mark Oakley is the Dean of Southwark. Artwork by Emily Noyce. For the whole of March, we are asking our readers to spread the news of the Church Times among their friends, acquaintances, and fellow churchgoers (and non-churchgoers). To celebrate (and help with) this, our paywall has been lifted for the whole of March, meaning you can enjoy all of our content — news, comment, features, faith, cartoons, and our historic archive — FOR FREE. This week, we dip our Grapes into our fan-favorite Southern Poetry Podcast! We were instructed by our Patreon member Tab to do a spotlight on the southern poet Garth Brooks, so we did just that. The podcast "Your Mom's House" uncovered the theory behind Garth being a serial killer, and through his poetry, we may have discovered truths in this claim. Join us on the Grapevine as we break down his experiences with the Baba-ya'llga, the beast within Chris Gaines, and just how many pumpkins it will take to satiate Peter Peter the Pumpkin Eater.Join us on Patreon for future secret content!https://www.patreon.com/NerdGrapevine?utm_campaign=creatorshare_creatorShoutout to Patreon member Tab for the fantastic suggestion!--------------------------------------------------We have merch now?!
