Este martes 1 de julio ha comenzado el servicio de salvamento y socorrismo en las principales playas del municipio de Valdoviño: A Frouxeira, Pantín, O Río (Meirás) y O Baleo (Pantín). Un total de 19 socorristas velarán por la seguridad de los bañistas durante la temporada estival. Aunque la cifra mejora con respecto a la del verano pasado, no alcanza aún el objetivo marcado por el Concello de Valdoviño, que aspira a contar con 33 socorristas para cubrir adecuadamente todos los arenales. Por este motivo, el proceso de contratación sigue abierto a través del INEM, tal como establece la Xunta de Galicia para poder acceder a las subvenciones destinadas a este tipo de servicios. El Concello prevé invertir algo más de 137.000 euros en el dispositivo de salvamento. No obstante, el alcalde, Alberto González, ha señalado que no se descarta recurrir a otras fórmulas, como la contratación directa, si no se logra avanzar mediante el procedimiento actual. El servicio estará operativo desde el 1 de julio hasta el 31 de agosto, en horario de 12:00 a 20:00 horas. En el caso de la playa de A Frouxeira, la más concurrida del municipio, se prolongará hasta el 7 de septiembre para garantizar la atención durante la primera semana del mes.

La playa de Pantín será del 20 al 22 de junio el epicentro del surf juvenil con la celebración del II Campeonato Chiquiprós RSM, única prueba gallega del circuito nacional y recientemente reconocida por la Federación Gallega de Surf como el mejor evento de surf de 2024. El certamen fue presentado esta mañana en el Océano Surf Museo por Rubén Sanmartín, responsable del RSM Club de Surf; el alcalde de Valdoviño, Alberto González; y el concejal de Deportes, Sergio Saavedra, acompañados por una nutrida representación del club anfitrión y sus jóvenes deportistas. La competición reunirá a más de un centenar de surfistas procedentes de comunidades como Asturias, Canarias, Cantabria, Euskadi, Andalucía, Murcia y Galicia. Las categorías en liza serán KIDS (sub 10 y sub 12) y Junior (sub 14 a sub 18), consolidando el evento como escaparate del futuro del surf español. Entre los nombres ya confirmados destacan Iván Casanova, Carla Morera, Eloy Valle, Mateo Vázquez, Gael Ribera, Martina Pertegaz y Carla Méndez, además de los favoritos locales del RSM, que cuenta con cinco representantes en la selección gallega, como Anita y Lucas Piñón, Lucas Casal, Mar Cid o Xabi Robles.
