Romana Schirhagl, co-founder, and Deepak Veeregowda, CEO of QT Sense, are interviewed by Yuval Boger. QT Sense develops quantum sensing technology using NV center sensors in nanodiamonds for biomedical applications. Deepak discusses the company's product, Quantum Nova, which is available for research and diagnostic purposes, particularly in cancer and infectious disease detection. QT Sense describes their technology as having subcellular resolution and nanomolar sensitivity, sees a key advantage in applying NV sensors in living systems where the sensors move and rotate, and aim to impact millions of patients by 2030.
Mutual Funds are often seen as the McDonalds of the investment world. They are ubiquitous and convenient, and yet, they are seen to lack the prestige of a fine dining experience aka Private Equity et al. In this episode, we take on the big question: Are mutual funds only for the salaried middle class, or is there a bigger story here? Deepak and Shray dive deep into the history and perception of mutual funds, from their once-exclusive status to becoming the go-to vehicle for SIPs and forced savings. But why don't you hear family offices or the ultra-wealthy proudly boasting about their mutual fund holdings? We explore this through the lens of economic class distinctions (India A, B, and C) and unpack how perceptions of exclusivity and quality affect investment choices. Whether you're planning for retirement, your child's education, or just wondering if your portfolio is too “plain vanilla,” this is a conversation that will make you rethink how you view mutual funds. -- 0:00 – Intro 3:29 – Choosing Exclusivity Over Simplicity 7:34 – Volatility Laundering 20:32 – Liquidity in University Endowment Funds 31:49 – Alternative Investments 38:58 – Mutual Funds vs Other Investments 44:12 – Why not hire a personal fund manager? 48:04 – Advantages and Disadvantages of Mutual Funds 1:12:26 – Use cases for Mutual Funds 1:22:41 – Who are Mutual Funds not for? -- More about us: https://cm.social/pms Connect with us : https://cm.social/pms-connect Deepak's Twitter: @deepakshenoy Shray's Twitter: @shraychandra Capitalmind Twitter: @capitalmind_in

Markets are looking for clarity on what the baseline tariff rates will ultimately be among key trading partners – and the recent U.S.-U.K. trade deal offers a promising sign, says Deepak Puri, the Private Bank's Chief Investment Officer for the Americas. "It might be sort of a blueprint for other trade agreements”, Deepak says, adding that purchase agreements and market access will be closely watched, in addition to the tariffs themselves. In the week ahead, U.S. inflation figures will be a key consideration, but Deepak says investors should also pay attention to retail sales data, which could show a moderating trend. For more investing insights, please visit deutschewealth.com.In Europe, Middle East and Africa as well as in Asia Pacific this material is considered marketing material, but this is not the case in the U.S. No assurance can be given that any forecast or target can be achieved. In this episode, Deepak and Shray unpack the ins and outs of international investing—why it matters, when it makes sense, and who it's really for. From rupee depreciation to political and geographical risks, they explore the key reasons to diversify your portfolio beyond India's borders. They also discuss a crucial question: At what level of capital does it become meaningful to place your money outside? The conversation weaves in perspectives from investing greats—Peter Lynch, who believed in the power of consumer insight, and Devina Mehra, whose latest book "Money Myths and Mantras" emphasizes global allocation as a must-have strategy. With fresh data on market returns (both in INR and local currency terms), the duo breaks down how different regions have performed—why Europe and China have struggled, and how the US tech boom, largely driven by the Nasdaq, has outshone the rest. But can the US continue to dominate, especially in light of Fed Chairman Powell's recent remarks on tariffs? They also touch upon an important side of global investing: taxation. From the complexities of capital gains to the lesser-known estate tax, and how investment vehicles like UCITS can help navigate these issues. Tune in for a comprehensive, no-fluff guide to international investing—what works, what to watch out for, and how to do it right. 0:00 - 2:10 Introduction 2:11 - 8:27 Why should you invest abroad? 8:28 - 10:53 Economic growth ≠ Shareholder returns 10:54 - 19:35 How to select international investments? 19:36 - 27:31 Regular international investments 27:32 - 32:17 Commodity Diversification 32:18 - 40:50 Managed International Investment Solutions 40:51 - 43:37 Good time to global? 43:38 - 47:17 Domestic vs. International Brokers 47:18 - 50:34 Tax on Foreign Equity 50:35 - 54:17 Tax Collected at Source 54:18 - 56:38 U.S. Estate Taxes 56:39 - 59:50 UCITS -- More about us: https://cm.social/pms Connect with us : https://cm.social/pms-connect Deepak's Twitter: @deepakshenoy Shray's Twitter: @shraychandra Capitalmind Twitter: @capitalmind_in

Philip Gulley, Peterson, and Sweet Miche share their personal journeys of unlearning traditional theological concepts and reflect on what makes Quakerism a meaningful path to a more authentic faith. Gulley highlights fear as a significant motivator for religious beliefs and a tool for control and how the current political moment is a masterfully evil manipulation of human fears. Gulley also offers his perspective on the continued usefulness of organized religion, emphasizing the importance of bringing people together, respecting personal autonomy, and aligning its social efforts with the ethos of Jesus and radical love. Philip Gulley is a Quaker pastor, writer, and speaker from Danville, Indiana. Gulley has written 22 books, including the Harmony series recounting life in the eccentric Quaker community of Harmony, Indiana, and the best-selling Porch Talk essay series. Gulley's memoir, I Love You, Miss Huddleston: And Other Inappropriate Longings of My Indiana Childhood, was a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Hor. In addition, Gulley, with co-author James Mulholland, shared their progressive spirituality in the books If Grace Is True and If God Is Love, followed by Gulley's books If the Church Were Christian and The Evolution of Faith. In Living the Quaker Way: Timeless Wisdom For a Better Life Today, Gulley offers the opportunity to participate in a world where the values of the Quaker way bring equity, peace, healing, and hope. In his most recently published non-fiction work, Unlearning God: How Unbelieving Helped Me Believe, Gulley describes the process of spiritual growth, especially the re-interpretation of the earliest principles we learned about God. Resources Here are some resources for friends in the process of unlearning and seeking spiritual growth: Therapy Therapy and spiritual growth can be deeply complementary. While therapy doesn't typically provide spiritual direction, it creates fertile ground for unlearning and spiritual development. You can use online therapist directories to find a therapist by location, insurance, specialty, cost, and more at Psychology Today, TherapyDen, or Open Path Psychotherapy Collective. Poets and Authors Audre Lorde is a profoundly influential Black lesbian feminist writer, poet, theorist, and civil rights activist. Her work powerfully explores the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability. You can read her essays in Sister Outsider and her "biomythography" Zami: A New Spelling of My Name. Federico Garcia Lorca is one of Spain's most important poets and playwrights of the 20th century. His work is celebrated for its intense lyricism, surreal imagery, and passionate exploration of themes like love, death, desire, oppression, and Andalusian culture, particularly in works like Gypsy Ballads and plays such as Blood Wedding and The House of Bernarda Alba. Walt Whitman is a central figure in American poetry, often called the "Bard of Democracy." Whitman revolutionized poetry with his use of free verse and expansive lines. His lifelong work, Leaves of Grass, celebrates the individual, democracy, nature, the body, spirituality, and the interconnectedness of all life, aiming to capture the diverse spirit of America. Mary Oliver is an American poet who focuses on the natural world, particularly the landscapes of New England. Her work finds wonder, spirituality, and profound insight in quiet observation and moments of attention to nature, inviting readers to connect more deeply with the world around them. Christian Wiman is a contemporary American poet and essayist known for his unflinching honesty and intellectual rigor in exploring themes of faith, doubt, suffering (often drawing on his own experience with chronic illness), mortality, and love. Joy Harjo is a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and served as the first Native American U.S. Poet Laureate. Her work weaves together Indigenous history, spirituality, myth, social justice, resilience, and a deep connection to the land, often infused with the rhythms of music and prayer. Akwake Emezi is a non-binary Nigerian writer and artist known for their powerful, innovative, and often genre-bending work. Their novels (like Freshwater and The Death of Vivek Oji) explore complex themes of identity, spirituality (often drawing on Igbo cosmology), gender, mental health, trauma, and the body, challenging conventional Western frameworks of selfhood. Elaine Pagels is a renowned historian of religion, particularly noted for her scholarship on early Christianity and Gnosticism. Her groundbreaking book, The Gnostic Gospels, brought non-canonical early Christian texts to wider attention, revealing the diversity of early Christian thought and exploring how political and social contexts shaped religious history and scripture. LGBTQ+ film festivals are events dedicated to showcasing films by, for, or about queer individuals and communities. They serve as vital platforms for representation, providing visibility for filmmakers and stories often marginalized in mainstream media. These festivals (like Frameline, Outfest, NewFest, and countless others globally) are also important spaces for community building and celebrating queer culture. Quaker Voluntary Service is a year-long program rooted in Quaker values. It brings young adults together to live in an intentional community, work full-time in social justice-focused non-profit organizations, and engage in spiritual exploration and leadership development, putting faith into action. Listener Responses We hear directly from Roxanne, who unlearned the idea that any single group holds the definitive spiritual answer, instead discovering valuable truths across diverse practices and traditions through their continuous seeking. On Facebook, friends shared their experience wrestling with the traditional ideas about God they grew up with. Many people mentioned letting go of a harsh or judgmental image of God, questioning core doctrines, and letting go of feelings of unworthiness. At this point, you've probably read enough about tariffs to last a lifetime. But what if we told you the real story isn't just about import duties or Donald Trump's next announcement; it's about a slow unraveling of the world order we've all taken for granted In this episode, Deepak and Shray dig into how the US once helped shape a global economic contract — one where it bought the goods, paid in dollars, protected the rest of the world, and in return, the world kept buying US debt. It worked until it didn't. Countries like China started playing a smarter game. They stitched shoes, then built the factories, then made their own brands, and finally started exporting those to the US. Somewhere along the way, the US realized it wasn't in control anymore. Tariffs are now the blunt tool being used to push back. We break down what's really happening, what's likely to happen next, and how portfolios, both in India and abroad, need to adjust. If the world is becoming more inward-looking, where should your money go? The world is changing. Listen in to make sure your portfolio is not caught off guard. 0:00 - 1:05 Introduction 1:06 - 3:17 What went wrong with the existing world order? 3:18 - 7:41 "The Unwritten Contract" 7:42 - 10:15 What a dollar can get you 10:16 - 15:22 Origins of Chinese Manufacturing 15:23 - 19:54 How the apprentice became the master 19:55 - 25:01 What's ailing Trump despite American glory? 25:02 - 26:00 The Multiplier Effect of Manufacturing 26:01 - 28:37 Why they resorted to Tariffs 28:38 - 30:41 Repercussions of Tariffs 30:41 - 33:33 De minimis Shipping 33:34 - 40:18 Shift toward an Isolated World (non-Tariff Barriers) 40:19 - 45:51 Global trade without the US 45:52 - 51:42 Investing themes during trade wars -- More about us: https://cm.social/pms Connect with us : https://cm.social/pms-connect Deepak's Twitter: @deepakshenoy Shray's Twitter: @shraychandra Capitalmind Twitter: @capitalmind_in

ETFs have taken over the world, or at least that's what you'd believe if you spent any time reading financial media in the US. Passive investing! Low costs! No fund manager egos! And of course, that looming prediction: “ETFs will destroy price discovery!” But in India? Crickets. While ETFs have become mainstream in the US, with trillions of dollars flowing into passive investing strategies, India's ETF story is still unfolding. Why haven't ETFs exploded in India despite our obsession with stocks? And more importantly, should you be investing in ETFs or mutual funds? In this episode, Deepak and Shray get into the weeds on all things Exchange Traded Funds — what they are, how they work, where they don't work, and why, despite sounding like the next great revolution in investing, they haven't quite clicked here yet. 00:00:00 - Introduction 00:02:01 - How big are ETFs? 00:07:30 - Why are ETFs so successful in the US 00:09:42 - How do ETFs work? 00:13:52 - Isn't it better to move into ETFs then? 00:16:01 - Who are you buying the ETF from? 00:20:08 - Are there any advantages in ETFs over MFs in India? 00:25:10 - What role do Market Makers play in ETFs? 00:30:12 - When and why do ETF prices trade above their NAV? 00:39:14 - Role of liquidity in ETF prices 00:42:06 - Why don't people do SIPs into ETFs and Stocks? 00:48:44 - How are ETFs useful for investors? 00:53:17 - What about Commodity ETFs? 00:55:47 - What about Liquid ETFs? 00:59:52 - How do regulations like stock-lending and free-float impact ETF returns? 01:04:53 - What are Deepak's thoughts about Active ETFs? 01:07:06 - Will ETFs gain market share from Mutual Funds?

Life-The Spiritual Essence: An Engineer's Insights into the Integrated Nature of Divinity by Deepak Parashar Linkedin.com Amazon.com The transformative journey of the author, an engineer, began with “chance” blessings from the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. Over 12 years of research ensued across 38 countries on how the substratum of energy interconnects our world under the umbrella of divinity—traversing the realms of science and spirituality, philosophy, 15 religions, nature, cultures, and locales. With timely support from subject matter experts, including a NASA astronaut, a WWII Nuremberg Trials prosecutor, a Tuskegee airman, clergy, holistic educators, as well as leaders from industry, defense, and the arts; the author combined over 25,000 pages of his research and travels to draw insights into life's spiritual essence. The outcomes encompass a strategic, holistic system for daily improvement; an integrated energy model explaining our cooperative existence; and the iterative science behind five major religions. Derived analyses include modern leadership philosophies rooted in ancient scriptures applied across diverse professions, and a spiritual travelogue that transcends boundaries by embracing profound topics such as the depths of human suffering, the heights of natural wonder, and the diverse realms of art and culture. "Life—The Spiritual Essence" serves as an encyclopedic resource for the global professional, providing diverse avenues for exploration and growth through cheerful dynamism to achieve excellence while serving the larger community. The message emphasizes hope at its core, drawing inspiration from the paths of leaders throughout history, powered on by our innate curiosity and grit to surpass personal boundaries to achieve lasting peace. With over 65 illustrations and pictures,"Life—The Spiritual Essence" includes: Table A: The Six Trigger Points, tested over seven years, serve as an illuminating holistic system for the mind organized into six action-oriented quadrants. Presented on a single page for daily review, they provide critical behavior analysis, driving subliminal improvements while studying admirable traits in the common man and leaders alike. By exploring their various permutations and combinations, one can analyze most daily experiences within this framework. And achieving over 50 percent alignment with these triggers invariably leads to a fulfilling day! Table B-1: Provides a comprehensive technical analysis of Hinduism's perspective on the creation of the universe, exploring its views from macrocosmic to microcosmic levels elucidating the genesis of life, and delineating the pathway towards transcendence. Table B-2: Examines the vision and iterative science behind Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Judaism. While some may perceive it as comparative, its focus lies in offering a structural analysis across 16 cardinal pillars that energize these age-old philosophies. This effort evolved over several years working with clergy, religious scholars, and holistic educators. Table C: Pursuant to the analyses in Tables A, B-1, and B-2, the author identifies specific boundary conditions and presents a comprehensive model that seamlessly integrates divinity, drawing upon the elements outlined earlier. Grounded in energy as the unifying substratum, it bridges the qualitative and quantitative aspects to elucidate the inclusive nature of reality. Spiritual Travelogue: The author's global quest delves into the essence of divinity through profound encounters, bridging theory and practice. These encompass seeking wisdom from figures like the Dalai Lama, poignant visits to WWII Concentration Camps, primal nature excursions into tornado alley (USA) and the sub-Arctic to witness the enchanting aurora borealis, to examining divinity within the fine arts, notably music and cinema. These rich experiences invite readers to contemplate the intricate tapestry of cultu...
