On this episode of Random Encounter, we're digging for some sweet, sweet caffeine!First up, Bob is here to chat about Yacht Club Games' newest title, Mina the Hollower. Yacht Club struck gold a decade ago with their retro side-scroller Shovel Knight and its various campaigns, but since then, they've apparently been on the bubble financially. Well, that doesn't seem to be a problem anymore because Mina the Hollower appears to be a hit! This top-down, Link's Awakening-esque and Castlevania-esque soulslike currently has everyone talking, and Bob and Jono certainly can't stop chatting about it! Spoiler alert: it's absolutely fantastic!Next, Audra and Mike are here for a steaming cup of Coffee Talk Tokyo. As the third entry in this lo-fi, relaxing visual novel series, the game moves its setting from rainy Seattle to neon Tokyo. Does the charm of Coffee Talk successfully make the jump across the Pacific?Oh, and we also chat about our hopes for next week's Not-E3 (and be sure to stay tuned for our 2026 Not-E3 Extravaganza episode)! Featuring: Jono Logan, Audra Bowling, Mike Salbato, and Jerry Williams; Edited by Jono LoganGet in Touch:RPGFan.comRPGFan ShopEmail us: podcast@rpgfan.comTwitter: @rpgfancomBluesky: @rpgfan.bsky.socialInstagram: @rpgfancomThreads: @rpgfancomFacebook: rpgfancomTwitch: rpgfancomThis Episode's Related Links:Mina the HollowerCoffee Talk TokyoCoffee Talk ReviewCoffee Talk 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly ReviewDragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams

Matt Topping of Norfolk, VA's COVA Brewing has a knack for winning medals with his fruit beer, but they aren't what you think—from the full fruit refermentation to the light herbal spicing, he's found an equation that's equally successful on draft in the taproom and on the final table at World Beer Cup. From slightly higher pH to low mash temps for fermentable wort to frozen purée to Ebbegarden kveik for the primary fermentation, he's built a systemic approach to both the base gose and to the fruits and spices he layers on top. In this episode, Topping discusses: using Lactobacillus Plantarum from Goodbelly for souring wort low mash temperatures for greater fermentability using frozen rather than aseptic purée to maintain the fresh edge of fruit flavor strategically adding salt and hibiscus in the brite to dial in perfect amounts cleverly pairing fruit and spice flavors like rosemary lemon, passionfruit hibiscus, and more proper temperature for herb steeping brewing with difficult ingredients like watermelon and strawberry controlling finished pH for greater function And more. G&D Chillers A quick word for the brewers out there staring down a broken chiller. G&D Chillers is there to help, whether you're a small brew pub or large full-scale production brewery. Don't throw good money at bad equipment. Invest in a solution that grows with your brewery—and keeps your tanks cold when it counts. Big thanks to G&D Chillers for supporting this podcast since 2019. Despite their "cutting" behavior, cutter bees are docile and gentle pollinators, crucial for the health of flowers and vegetables.Listen to Mountain Gardener on Cast11: https://cast11.com/mountain-gardener-with-ken-lain-gardening-podcast/Follow Cast11 on Facebook: https://Facebook.com/CAST11AZFollow Cast11 on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cast11_podcast_network/

Claude Bosi: “I called him a c* on Twitter — my wife banned me from social media”**This week on The Go-To Food Podcast, we sit down with the maverick of modern French cooking, Claude Bosi — and nothing is off the table. From swearing at food bloggers to being told off by his wife, Claude shares the unfiltered stories behind his rise from Lyon to Ludlow to the heights of Bibendum, where he now holds two Michelin stars and cooks like he's finally happy. He tells us why he walked away from Hibiscus — leaving behind every single dish — and how freedom, rotisserie chicken, and an ode to his mother's tripe have defined the next chapter of his cooking. We talk accidental pork pie ravioli, scallop liver parfait, and the duck & caviar dish that took two and a half years to get right. We also hear the story behind the infamous Twitter meltdown that followed a lukewarm review, discover his go-to Chinese tasting menu spot in Pimlico, and learn about the deep-fried rabbit he devoured in Lisbon, along with vinegar-soaked tripe sandwiches. He reflects on the pressure of cooking for Michelin legends who still make him “shit himself” when they walk in, and explains why the true mark of a great kitchen is when your 20-year-old chef teaches you something new.Claude also opens up about his roots in Lyon — growing up in a family that made their own pâté, terrines and saucisson, and the traditional chicken quenelles in mushroom sauce his mother used to make. That heritage continues to shape how he thinks about food today. He speaks candidly about the stigma still faced by chefs and restaurateurs who dare to try and make money. But, as he says, you can love cooking and still know your worth. From chaos to Canelé, Claude Bosi is a force of nature — and this is his story, told like you've never heard it before.-------Please leave us a great rating and a comment and share it with your friends - it really helps us grow as a show.If you're in the industry and are looking for the greatest POS system in the world than look no further as Blinq are tearing up the rulebook—no long-term contracts, no hidden fees, and no per-device charges.Just £49 a month for unlimited devices and 24/7 UK-based support that's always there, in person when you need it.Built for hospitality, by hospitality, blinq is the fastest, easiest POS system on the market—so intuitive, anyone can use it. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for January 8, 2025 is: gelid • JELL-id • adjective Something described as gelid, such as the weather or a person's demeanor, is literally or figuratively extremely cold or icy. // She decided to move down south after experiencing Chicago's gelid winters throughout college. See the entry > Examples: “[Delish.com's assistant food editor, Taylor Ann] Spencer notes Oregon-based ice creamery Salt & Straw for ‘combos like Pistachio with Saffron, and Hibiscus and Coconut.' Other offerings there sound like a warm hug in gelid form: Jasmine Milk Tea laced with chocolate-coated almond slivers, or Rhubarb Crumble with Toasted Anise.” — Kim Cook, The Chicago Sun-Times, 30 June 2023 Did you know? Alright stop, collaborate and listen: the history of gelid is all about ice, ice, baby. Gelid entered English late in the 16th century from the Latin adjective gelidus, which ultimately comes from the noun gelu, meaning “frost” or “cold.” (The noun gelatin, which can refer to an edible jelly that undergoes a cooling process as part of its formation, comes from the related Latin word, gelare, meaning “to freeze.”) Gelid is used to describe anything of extremely cold temperature (as in “the gelid waters of the Arctic Ocean”), but the word can also be used figuratively to describe a person with a cold demeanor (as in “the prizefighter's gelid stare”).
