Into the Fire is a show hosted by CEO of Bison Fire Protection, Rob Read. Every week Rob Read goes into the fire to cover hot topics with the objective of finding clarity as he clears the smoke.
In this week's Bison Bit I talk about I can't vs I won't. There is a difference and you need to get to the core of either. Both can be resolved with good conversation and empathy. The outcome is a stronger team. https://youtu.be/HkVLIpecVDw #Lifesafety #Bisonbit #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Leadership is an interesting topic. There's good leaders and bad we all know that. There are different styles with varying degrees of success too. Talking about leadership is important because it gives everyone a chance to share and grow. That's why I bring it up. I want to grow and learn from you. In this Bison Bit I talk about leading by example. Your team is always watching you. Make sure what they see is inspiring in some way. Little things can have a much larger impact than huge gestures. https://youtu.be/dr6Ih5C3X8g #Lifesafety #Bisonbit #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Retailers have been using loss leaders as a way to get you into their store to impulse buy or purchase other items they sell. Even car dealers have used this type of bait and switch over the years. Loss leaders usually leave a bad taste in your mouth because it's deceptive. Life safety should never fall into this category, but unfortunately it does, more often than you may realize. https://youtu.be/dnV5J3G_duY #Fireprotection #Lifesafety #Bisonbit #Business #Insurance #firealarm #firesprinkler #Propertymanagement #Fireextinguisher #Firesuppression #Mining #Manufacturing See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Lock downs are continuing with tempers, stress and anxiety on the rise. I constantly hear about other social issues growing as well. Drug & alcohol abuse, family breakdowns and worse. People don’t need more negativity piled on them. Last week I said “Don’t under value kindness or see it as weakness because it’s a STRENGTH. Anyone can be cruel easily it takes a stronger person to be kind.” Everyone has something going on that you know nothing about. Remember a moment of kindness and empathy delivered at the right moment could be the life line someone desperately needs. You have that superpower. Use it. https://youtu.be/du1Qfp5dv1s #Fireprotection #Lifesafety #Bisonbit #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Did you know that after using a fire extinguisher it needs to be professionally serviced? I walk through why and a few other valuable fire extinguisher tips that many people just don’t know. It’s time to share some industry secrets. As I finish the walk down memory lane remembering the last 20 years we get to the “Current Years”. A lot happened through that time. Changes in the business that included growth, some hardships, and the heartache I felt personally as COVID took hold. It’s been a fantastic journey, and has given me numerous thoughts on stories and situations that I can unpack in greater detail in future Bison Bits. Thanks for taking the walk with me! https://youtu.be/kkCiHhzMiuQ #Fireprotection #Bisonbit #Business #firealarm #Fireextinguisher #Firesuppression #Firesprinkler See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The late middle years brought some interesting challenges. Bison had grown from a small to a medium sized business. These types of transitions can be disruptive and they will test the resolve of any staff. We also found time to grow. I talk about some of the challenges, and decisions made. It was an interesting era for Bison and many lessons were learned along the way. https://youtu.be/KtxqlKRDh6k #Fireprotection #Bisonbit #Business #firealarm #Fireextinguisher #Firesuppression #Firesprinkler See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Through the early middle years we really started to get our feet under us and went through a period of rapid growth. With that came some rapid lessons, some funny moments, and some personal life changes. These were exciting times and I’m happy to share some of the experiences along the journey. I hope you’re enjoying this as much as I am! https://youtu.be/0trv5VskY_8 #Fireprotection #Bisonbit #Business #firealarm #Fireextinguisher #Firesuppression #Firesprinkler See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Bison Fire Protection is 20 years old this year! I’m going to break this into a 4 part series beginning with the first 5 years "The Start-Up Years". A lot has happened over that time and there’s much to tell. I’m looking forward to sharing the story with you. It’s bringing back some great memories for me. A business goes through a lot over 20 years and I know there are a few nuggets tucked in along the way. I’ve often talked about the changes we’ve all made to our businesses over the past year. Sometimes pivoting is the right thing to do. I’ve spoken with a number of business owners who’ve made changes, and I see a common theme. Sometimes the obvious just isn’t. Now that you’ve made the changes what have you forgotten to do? #Fireprotection #Firesafety #Bisonbit #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
There are many types of customer experience. On today’s Bison Bit I focus on two. The internal customer, and the external customer. Both are important. If you can’t create incredible experiences you will be challenged in business. Have a listen, and share your thoughts. #Fireprotection #Bisonbit #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Working from home has been a life saver for many people. WFH been a regular conversation lately as people question returning vs staying home. I believe there will be a mix going forward, and the decision to attend a face to face meeting will be determined by new priorities. However the short water cooler chats and bump-into’s between meetings are the moments that truly build relationships. This is going to be a new challenge for business. Your team is everything, and teams are built on relationships. https://youtu.be/lkdko1RGmoE #Fireprotection #Firesafety #Bisonbit #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Pivoting in business certainly has been this year’s buzz word. Business owners and managers are faced with many tough decisions daily. Sometimes Pivoting is the right thing to do.On today’s Bison Bit I talk about pivoting vs. improving what you’re already doing. Have a listen and as always I welcome your thoughts and comments.Having great conversations is how we’re making the world a safer place.#fireprotection #firesafety #teambison #Bisonbit See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
It’s a challenge as a leader to step back and let the team run, but you need to.Last year the team was working together on a project. All spoke, sometimes interrupting each other but not to be rude, because they were excited. I spent more time listening to their points because they were far more intimate with their areas of responsibility. If you dominate every situation the team stops contributing. You hired them for their skills, allow them to use them. To be clear I’m not talking about disengagement you need to be a part of the group. They want your input and thoughts, but they want you to work with them, not talk at them. #fireprotection #firesafety #Bisonbit #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On today’s Bison Bit I talk about the many challenges in front of us. Challenges have always been there, they always will be.This is the time that being tenacious will serve you well. Dig deep, talk to your network, and find a way. There is one, you need to find it and make it work for you.Finding a new way is how we’re making the world a safer place.#Business #Fireprotection #Firesafety See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Mistakes are a part of life. Some bigger than others but we all make them. How do you deal with your own mistakes, or the mistakes made by a team member? In this Bison Bit I share a few of my thoughts and ideas on this. This is a big subject that will have many opinions. I want to hear yours so we can all improve together. On this week’s Bison Bit I talk about being the inspiration in your organization. Anyone can take the easy path and criticize, or bring negativity. Main Stream Media has conditioned us that way. It’s a bigger challenge to lift someone up, or stop them when gossiping. Strive to be a positive influence with your work family. The rewards are amazing. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In this week’s Bison Bit I share my concerns regarding our current situation in the fight against C-19. I believe, in my heart, that we will overcome the pandemic, however we need to take a close personal look at what is important, and what choices we can make to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.Give it a listen then think about what you can do to make the world a safer place.#fireprotection #firesafety #Business #Bisonbit See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Its official, its Valentine’s week. I’m not a Hallmark holiday guy, but we need a diversion as winter drags along. Do something special for someone this week, something unexpected and from the heart. Giving of yourself has an unexpected return. It makes that person feel great, but once your done I’ll bet the person in the mirror is smiling back at you. Enjoy the week! #fireprotection #firesafety #Valentinesday #Business See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

It was announced this week that we will be moving from code red to code “soft” red this weekend. With a number of people coming back to work there may be a few new faces as you ramp up. Training new people, or investing in existing people needs to happen, however it can be expensive. Workplace Education Manitoba currently offers just over 90 courses at no cost to you. These courses are government funded, and only available for a limited time. We’ve taken advantage of this opportunity, you should too. Jessica LoRusso is heading up the program you can reach her through their website. www.wem.mb.ca Remember the old adage “What if we train them and they leave? What if we don’t and they stay.” Investing in your staff is never a bad idea. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
