Join Matt & Harri for backyard conversations with friends, finding commonalities with a chamber chorus of cool catz! A podcast that will reach the artistic soul.
Matt and Harri fire up the old JOTF machine and listen to Matt's new solo piano album called "Let's Hold It Here".
And... we're back! On the road this time to meet up with South Dakota singer and songwriter Boyd Bristow. Boyd and his wife Dar gave us a warm welcome at their home in Sioux Falls (thank you, both!). Boyd has been making music in South Dakota for decades, and Matt gets to play with him on one of his songs, "Finding My Way" (the soundcheck turned into "the take"). We wish you all an amazing year! We have some exciting things stirring for our podcast in 2022 so stay tuned, and enjoy this episode with our dear friend Boyd.
To know sweet Harri is to love her. The tables are turned again this month on JOTF as Matt interviews Harri! We'll hear about her gifts as a writer and a lover-of-souls, her wicked-good sense of humor, and her fearless early career in California (including a job as a Hollywood tour bus driver = numerous Mr. T sightings). Thanks for joining us!
Music, radio and TV. They're some of Matt Weesner's earliest memories, and today he's blessed to be a public radio host and producer and a professional pianist. This month on JOTF the tables are turned: Harri interviews Matt! They talk about how he started playing the piano, his radio career, and what's up with those songs that won't stop playing in his head. And, she mockingly pretends to sit at his feet as he plays a couple of tunes.
This month's guest exudes contentment and peace. Mimi Wilson was born into the life of serving others before self. She is an international speaker who has lived in Congo, Ecuador, and Jordan. She has co-authored several books, among them "Holy Habits" and "Once-a-Month-Cooking". She is married to Dr. Calvin Wilson who had a life passion to touch the untouched tribes and share his gift of healing. Listen in as Mimi speaks of raising their children in the life God called them to with great uncertainty and some great adventures. And, we'll end with a song that, according to Mimi, "says it all".
We had a blast on the road meeting up with our friend (and brilliant guitarist) Charlie White. He tours with Wynonna Judd and The Big Noise, and has also worked with Pam Tillis, Highway 101 and Vern Gosdin. We'll hear about his first guitar (purchased with rolled up pennies), jamming with Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, and he brings by a beautiful 1930s Martin guitar that he's working on in his repair shop. Plus, the best place to get enchiladas in Heber Springs, AK!
This month, Matt and Harri take the show on the road! We drive with our friend Idella from Denver to her new home in South Carolina. A few people that we meet along the way share how this past year has been going, their heartfelt wishes for our country, and what they'd like to throw out "Just Over The Fence". And, we hear from a long time listener... first time caller. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
Beth Bowlen Wallace bleeds orange and blue. She grew up on the sidelines of the Denver Broncos next to her dad, team owner Pat Bowlen. This month on Just Over The Fence, Matt and Harri look beyond all of the television and newspaper headlines as Beth talks about her life inside and outside of football. What's the happiest moment of her life? (Hint: it includes a near-miss on the sidelines with Terrell Davis running out of bounds and Super Bowl XXXII). Our sincere thanks to Beth for joining us this month -- and to YOU for listening! -- Matt & Harri
This month on Just Over The Fence, it's our "first annual" Christmas Card from our family to yours. Our kids and grandkids join us to share thoughts on 2020 and their wisdom and outlook for 2021. And, it's a year-in-review as we listen back to wise words from each of our guests since we began 9 months ago, plus advice from both of our fathers. And, of course, lots of music. Thank you for listening each month. Here's to looking up in 2021! Much love to you all -- Matt & Harri
Wendy Oakes IS joy. She's a long time ministry director in Colorado. Matt & Harri met her at church, and shortly after Wendy became a mentor to Harri. Wendy is the perfect guest for Thanksgiving week, and we're HONORED to have her join us for an inspiring conversation. Listen in as she talks to us about finding joy in life (hint: it's locked inside gratitude). Plus our daughter, Bri-Weez, jumps in for a song about "looking up".
IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY TO COFFEE FARMER? Yep... true story. Colorado immigration attorney Christine Mastin tells us how she recently became a Hawaiian coffee farmer! Also, the beautiful story of how she and her husband adopted their youngest daughter from Ethiopia. And, some deep wisdom and good questions to ponder.
Cody Carbone has been making music for as long as he can remember. It's been six years since he joined the legendary Denver band "Hazel Miller & The Collective". Cody joins us this month to talk about the day he met Hazel (while performing for a crowd of 120,000 in downtown Denver), his first gig (he was eight years old), and coming back from a hand injury (it turned out OK... Cody's surgeon and his guitar have the same name: Fender!). Plus, Cody plays a few tunes for us.
How do you capture a view from the top of the Grand Teton? How do you capture our friend Sara Goodyear’s brilliance? You have to experience it. This month on Just Over The Fence, Sara reads one of her poems, introduces us to a great piece of art, tells us about climbing the Grand Teton, and describes the place where nature, art and her faith intersect. Also this month, we take Harri by surprise with a new segment thanks to our friend Chris Thomas!
When Charlie Fote started working for First Data Corporation, it was worth about 11 million dollars. He rose through the company's ranks, eventually becoming CEO. When he retired, First Data was valued at 11 BILLION dollars. Matt and Harri are thrilled to welcome Charlie to talk about leadership, hear his story about negotiating with Garth Brooks, and how you can "make it a great day".
We love Hazel Miller. And she ended up in Colorado by accident! In 1984 she was moving her family from Kentucky to California when her rental truck broke down in Denver. What was originally going to be just a few days in Colorado has turned into a legendary three-and-a-half decade career. This time on Just Over The Fence, Hazel talks about her life and career, shares some wisdom she's picked up along the way, and sings a few songs for us.
Hey, guys. This month, Matt and Harri are thrilled to welcome a very special guest to Just Over The Fence: Kerry Conner. Kerry tells stories about his life in music: playing with Steve Taylor on a Grammy-nominated record, and making music inside The Moscow Kremlin at an historic time. Plus, he talks about his family, shares some thoughts on how we can navigate these unprecedented times, and he sings one of his songs for us!
Our very first guest is the gentleman who gave us the final nudge to start this podcast (something we'd been thinking about for a long time). Tucker Riley sings with a Denver band, Chewy & Bach. And... he's been to Bono's house (NBD).
