The wait is over. Jack Carr's new novel—CRY HAVOC—is out now.Chapter 3 drops us back into South Vietnam on January 27, 1968, where Tom Reece, Frank Quinn, and their Montagnard teammate Amiuh—run an off-the-books “hunting expedition” outside Phu Bai. These unsanctioned testing-and-evaluation missions sharpen skills and stress-test gear: suppressed Sten guns, silenced High Standards, and new Starlight setups. What begins as a quiet remain overnight site near a jungle trail pivots hard when the team encounters a seven-man NVA element with a courier holding a message that just might turn the tide of the war. Brought to life by the legendary voice of Ray Porter, this excerpt is pure MACV-SOG grit—movement, patience, and violence of action—where a single silent ambush can flip the intelligence picture on its head.“Cry ‘Havoc!,' and let slip the frogs of war.”Buy the audiobook, https://bit.ly/CryHavocAudioOrder your copy of CRY HAVOC, HERE.Copyright: Audio excerpt courtesy of Simon & Schuster Audio from CRY HAVOC by Jack Carr, read by Ray Porter. As the frontman of John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band, Cafferty rose to prominence with the soundtrack to the 1983 failed studio movie turned HBO cult classic "Eddie and the Cruisers".  “On the Dark Side” became a hit, topping the rock charts.  It went top ten on the Hot 100. His music, eerily close to the sound of Bruce Springsteen, helped define a genre - heartland rock with an East Coast rock and roll, let's-cruise-the-beach-roads, sweaty, smoky rock bar vibe.   While not a massive star, Cafferty maintained a long touring career, especially in the Northeastern U.S., where he and his band have a devoted fan base. He has released the band's first new album since 1988. What did he bring?  We listen together. I hadn't heard the album until I recorded this podcast. In this episode, we take a first listen to the new album from Mitch Ryder, called With Love the latest chapter in the career of the rock and soul icon. With the release of his 21st studio album, Ryder calls it one of the most honest works of his career—raw, autobiographical, and packed with his grit and soul. Produced by Don Was, the album marks a 2025 moment in Ryder's decades-long career. We'll also hear Ryder's roots—from fronting The Detroit Wheels in the mid-60s with hits like “Devil with a Blue Dress On” and “Jenny Take a Ride!” to his transformation into a blue-eyed soul singer and bandleader of The Mitch Ryder Show and his later career in Germany. His influence stretches across generations, as seen in collaborations with John Mellencamp and his induction into the R&B Hall of Fame in 2017. We also talk about Ryder's unexpected second act in Germany, where he's cultivated a devoted fan base and recorded much of his later work. Highlights include a live performance listen to The Roof Is on Fire, captured during his 75th birthday tour. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to Mitch Ryder's music, we hear his new music first - right here. How's it sound?  What do you think?

Here's my background. Love Bryan Adams. He did "Cuts Like a Knife", one of the great rock tracks of eighties radio. "Straight from the Heart", one of the great ballads of rock radio, and the windows down, summertime, turn it up loud, catch a little buzz, rock and roll of Reckless. His eighties work is the foundation. And then he went into the nineties and worked with Mutt Lange and had a huge album. And then worked on some soundtracks, went ballad-heavy, and then lost his way. Now I saw him live, would have been 1987.  The Hooters opened. It was Joe Louis Arena. So it was the, you know, 17,000. Great show. Saw him in Indianapolis  - 2007-ish. And it was really good Bryan Adams has always been good live. He has a 2025 tour of Europe planned. Now he has new music. And I've been so disappointed with Bryan Adams music over the past 30 years.  Never a great lyricist - he's not Springsteen. He's not Petty. But the the banging eighties guitar, drums, whiskey-soaked voice played loud - that's Bryan Adams. That is his sweet spot, and and he had lost that. Shyper-generic and not great fun - to me anyway. But he's come back with some new music. It's a first listen for me.  Hadn't heard it yet. We're gonna hear it together. We're gonna I'm gonna react to it, and we'll see what we see what I think. What does it do for me? For you?  A single called Roll With the Punches was released in February. That's gonna be the name of the album due to come out sometime in 2025. And then he has released a second single in March He's working again with Mutt Lange. Let's see what this sounds like.    may stop it as we're getting through part of it. What do we think? So this is the brand new single. It's called "Make Up Your Mind".  Let's turn it up and listen together.   And then I found a couple of added surprises. :) email: rockpoprollpodcast@gmail.com website: www.rockpopandroll.com

In this episode we explore Luke 2:41-52. Within this passage, we read about Jesus returning to the temple as a boy. Together, we discuss the example that Jesus provides as He remained in the temple, and just how important it is to keep our focus on Jesus in the midst of all things, listening twice in every interaction, both to Jesus, and those around us.

In 1992, he began his self-described "gypsy years radio tour," where he held the positions of on-air personality and music director at a number of different stations as both Chris Booker and Booker Madison in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Florence, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh. In 1996, he landed the evening slot at 92.3 K-Rock in New York City, where he met the nation's top radio talk show host, Howard Stern, who made the young DJ a regular on his program. He made numerous appearances on Howard Stern's show under the name "Booger." Booker left K-Rock in 2003 for the morning drive show on the "Blink" version of WNEW. When that format failed and the show was taken off the air, Booker then worked at Sirius Satellite Radio as morning host for Octane Radio. Booker was then hired at New York Top forty (WHTZ) "Z100" as a fill-in host. Booker eventually found his way back to K-Rock in 2005, where his show aired in the afternoon until the format was changed to "Free FM" talk. His producer and on-air collaborator at the time was Al Dukes. On January 3, 2006, Booker's "new" radio show (carrying over many of the same elements and players as his afternoon drive rock show) titled The Booker Show debuted from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The show aired on Monday-Thursday, and 7-10 p.m. on Fridays at WFNY-FM (92.3 Free-FM).On May 23, 2008, Booker was fired as the morning show host on "Q102" in Philly (but was still considered an employee of "Q102", due to contractual reasons).Booker has worked as a correspondent for TV Guide Channel covering red carpet events. From 2000 to 2003, Booker was a full-time VJ for MTV and MTV2, hosting such shows as The Return of the Rock, First Listen with Britney Spears, and was the final host for the now defunct series 120 Minutes. We developed our On First Listen series so we'd have the opportunity to give a good listen to albums which had somehow gotten past us. Maybe we'd always seen it in the record store and were curious or maybe friends had recommended the album but we never had a chance to listen. Perhaps, like Roger Waters 1984 solo effort The Pros & Cons of Hitchhiking, it was both as the distinct cover is a young boys record shopping fantasy and many prog-heads have suggested it's better than The Wall from Roger's former band Pink Floyd. In fact, he brought both concepts to the band in the late 70s - they could pick the one they liked best and the other, Roger would keep for a solo album. While The Wall became a cultural touchstone selling tens of millions of copies around the world, The Pros & Cons was met with a much cooler reception. And while Roger employed the talents of folks who had helped make Pink Floyd's The Wall such a success like artist Gerald Scarfe, he also brought in some preeminent musicians like David Sanborn, Michael Kamen and Eric Clapton. Telling a story in real time of a man dreaming about having an affair, the ambition of Roger Waters for the stage and screen of his idea is epic. However, despite all this help the album didn't sell like a PInk Floyd album and many critics and fans savaged the album as Roger's negative ego trip. Yet some say it's his finest work, in or out of Floyd. To help give us some insight, we brought back friend of the show Lee Dickson who was Eric Clapton's longtime guitar tech. Though his memory is a bit foggy, the stories of how the stage was setup and how the musicians performed this music on-stage are really special and we're so glad to have him back. Where do you come out on this divisive record? Is it an amazing concept or just a bad album? Are any of the songs memorable? We try to figure that out On First Listen.
