We're thrilled to have a true songwriter's songwriter joining us, the incredibly talented Adam Wright. Hailed by legends like Robert Earl Keen as a "wildly brilliant genius" and Buddy Miller as "one of the best of the best songwriters and storytellers there is," Adam's work has been recorded by a who's who of country music, from Garth Brooks to Alan Jackson and Lee Ann Womack. He's stepping into the spotlight with his ambitious new solo album, Nature of Necessity, a masterclass in character-driven songwriting. We'll be diving deep into the album's stories and the creative process behind it. In this episode, we discuss: How do you listen to music? We talk about whether you zero in on the lyrics when you hear a song on the radio. Pop music and depth: Can a hit song be both popular and also deep and layered? The power of the written word: Adam shares his passion for books and how it informs his work. The obsessive process: We get into the nitty-gritty of what it takes to complete a song. Stepping into character: Adam reveals how he gets into the minds of the characters in his songs and if it's hard to step back out of them. The magic vs. the work: We explore the role of "magic" in songwriting and if it comes easily. "Heaven When I Die": We break down his powerful song from the new record. Whether you're a songwriter, a music fan, or just someone who loves a great story, this episode offers a rare look inside the mind of a true artist. ___ Support the show: Uber Eats: Get up to 40% off Fall essentials. Bruce Bouton is an accomplished pedal steel guitarist who has played on an extensive string of massive country albums and singles from the 80's onward. From his multi-year stint backing up Ricky Skaggs, playing some of the most memorable steel licks of the era, to most of Garth Brooks' musical output all through the 90's, Bruce has also appeared on records for Emmylou Harris, Brooks & Dunn, The Mavericks, Shania Twain, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, and many more. Bruce has incredible skill on the instrument and has found a way to come up with hooky, accessible yet technically skillful parts and solos that have contributed to the success of so many of those recordings. He's been at this a long time and brings a wealth of experience to sessions and gigs still today. Bruce also made an instructional pedal steel video that is well worth seeking out - I sure found it enlightening when I was starting to play steel. Bruce is still very active around Nashville and we had a chance to hang out at the Henhouse and spend an hour or so talking about lots of his history and path to where he is today. You can get all the current info on Bruce at his website:www.rockinlapsteel.comEnjoy my conversation with Bruce Bouton! This season is brought to you by our main sponsors Larivée Guitars, Audeze, Izotope, FabFilter, and Chase Bliss. The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry
Send us a textWhat happens when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement announcement collides with a passionate debate about the greatest party song of all time? Pure entertainment gold on The Jay Franze Show.Hosts Jay Franze and Tiffany Mason kick things off by diving into the swirling conspiracy theories surrounding Taylor Swift's engagement. From the podcast proposal cover-up (did Travis plan it all along?) to the significance of the number 13 in the announcement timing, they examine the most intriguing fan theories while sharing genuine excitement for the couple. The hosts balance healthy skepticism with appreciation for Swift's calculated brilliance, concluding that while some theories stretch credibility, the engagement genuinely appears to be a moment of authentic love rather than a marketing stunt. The conversation shifts to a lively roundup of country music news, exploring Russell Dickerson's deeply personal "Famous Back Home," Old Dominion's most vulnerable album yet, and Bon Jovi's surprising country collaborations with Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll. When a Gallup poll suggests Americans are drinking less alcohol, the hosts contemplate whether this cultural shift might change country music's long-standing relationship with drinking themes - though they remain confident these classic motifs aren't disappearing anytime soon. The show's heart lies in an electrifying listener-driven debate about the greatest party song of all time. As nominations flood in ranging from Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places" to "Old Time Rock and Roll" and "Red Solo Cup," Jay and Tiffany methodically narrow down contenders through an entertaining elimination process that ultimately crowns "Celebration" as the undisputed champion. This segment showcases the show's remarkable connection with its audience, creating a virtual community gathering that feels like friends sharing music recommendations over drinks.LinksJay Franze: https://JayFranze.comVirtually You: https://www.virtuallyyouva.com/ Support the show

Musicians have been inspired by alcohol since the days of traveling troubadours. Booze is a loosener of lips, a loosener of hips, and a shared experience for many adults – although respect to our sober brothers and sisters, especially in these challenging times. The summer months in particular have long been associated with adult beverages. Margaritas on the deck. Wine on the beach. A nice cold beer at a barbecue. So for the second of our 2025 Summer Specials, we want to look back at popular songs dedicated to alcohol, or about consuming it, as we debate the Best Drinking Song of all time. Songs discussed: “Red Red Wine” by UB40, “Tubthumping” by Chumbawumba, “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks, “Shots” by LMFAO feat. Lil Jon, “Tequila” by The Champs, “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffett, “Raise Your Glass” by Pink, “Gin & Juice” by Snoop Dogg, “Brass Monkey” by Beastie Boys, “Fireball” by Pitbull, “All I Wanna Do” by Sheryl Crow, “Closing Time” by Semisonic, “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes, “Rehab” by Amy Winehouse, “TiK ToK” by Kesha, “There's a Tear in My Beer” by Hank Williams Jr. Join host Eric Rezsnyak and GPCD panelists Andrea Guerrero, Jonny Minogue, and Zack Derby as they discuss 16 of the most popular songs about booze. Ben Kweller's excellent new record COVER THE MIRRORS comes with a heartbreaking back-story —it was borne out of the tragic death of his teenage son Dorian— but in typical Kweller fashion, the album is an inspirational and life affirming collection that also happens to be the best thing he's ever recorded. On this episode we talk to “the kid” about producing himself, growing up in Texas with a drummer dad, Face Time collaborations, his first slug-bugging meeting with Scott, Jewish rockers, Nirvana and Garth Brooks, why you'll never make it through his new song “Letter To Agony” with dry eyes, and we pick the best(!?!) Beach Boys songs. Garth Brooks was awesome in 2021, and the volleyball game was awesome at the stadium…but that's all we've had for non-football events at Memorial Stadium, as Troy Dannen has said he wants more concerts, events and even weddings there Can you imagine getting married at Memorial Stadium? The cost would have to be astronomical…but there's also a chance that it's so popular that there could be a waiting list to even make it possible..
