I'm sure you've seen the news...At the outset, the recent announcement of the "America by Design" initiative and the new "National Design Studio" is quite exciting. It's a huge spotlight on our field. But it also feels a bit strange, doesn't it? Because it wasn't so long ago that the US government had 18F, an entire organization dedicated to improving the user experience of its services. And then, in early 2025, it was deemed "non-essential" and unceremoniously "deleted".One of the people right in the middle of it all was our guest, Ron Bronson. As the Head of Design at 18F, he was at the forefront of applying service design within the complexities of government. So, you can imagine that when Ron sat down with me for the conversation, it wasn't just a walk in the park. We dove into some juicy questions that challenge the very core of our practice. Is service design too opaque and stuck in its own craft? What if we reframed our work as a form of “design as repair”? Why might AI actually be the biggest blessing for service design yet? I can assure you, this is a conversation that will get you out of your comfort zone in the best way possible. So, if you're ready to be challenged with some fresh perspectives, make sure you tune in to this one.Even though we tackle some pretty huge topics in the episode, Ron brings it all back to a simple, powerful idea right at the end of the conversation. Can you take a guess? (Hint: it's about zooming in, not out ).Enjoy the episode and keep making a positive impact!Be well,~ Marc--- [ 1. Grab your coffee and get ready to dive into today's spicy episode on cleavage etiquette and dress codes! How much cleavage is too much? Do women dress for attention or for themselves? And what are the rules for men - can you compliment cleavage or should you just not look? We tackle these burning questions head-on. Hayley sets the record straight on why she wore a cleavage-baring dress to a recent gala. Hint: it's not for the attention. Max still seems confused about cleavage etiquette. This prompts an open discussion on whether it's okay for men to comment on a woman's cleavage. The consensus: women dress for themselves, not for attention. Men should keep comments classy and focused above the neckline. Compliment the whole outfit, not just the cleavage! What do you think? Let us know!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Herbs #22 and 23 on the top-selling herbs list for 2023 were milk thistle and black cohosh.Today we continue our series on commercially popular herbs, and share our views as herbalists on the actions, benefits, and applications of these.Milk thistle is widely known as an excellent herb for the liver, and this is a case where the common wisdom is correct. It's one of the safest herbs out there, and fortunately, it is also widely available and inexpensive. Hepatoprotective and even able to regenerate damaged liver tissue, it is at the same time a very gentle and benign plant. But don't try to make tea with it!Black cohosh's reputation is as a remedy for PMS and menopausal symptoms, and often this is attributed to phytoestrogenic activity or constituents. The reality is murky – and has remained so despite decades of argument and investigation on both sides of the claim. Regardless, black cohosh can often help. We find it best to view the herb through the lens of its action as a relaxant. If PMS or menopause are showing up with lots of tension, it's worth a try and most likely to help. But we can also apply that action much more broadly, for injuries, spasms, and (certain kinds of) headaches.22. What makes a bridge the perfect home for 1.5 million bats? That's just one of the many questions JB, Sandy, and Tricia explore in this heartfelt and hilarious episode of The JB and Sandy Show. From military pride to parmesan chicken, and from Austin's bat colony to football fandom chaos—this episode is packed with emotion, insight, and classic JB oversharing. Sandy shares a deeply personal moment: his parents, both in their 80s, are flying in from Omaha for the first time in a decade to attend a special ROTC pinning ceremony for his daughter Landry. She's being promoted to Chief and has chosen her grandfather—a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel—to pin her. The segment is touching, emotional, and a beautiful tribute to family and tradition. Tricia then dives into the story of Austin's famous bat colony and reveals why the Congress Avenue Bridge became their home. Hint: it's all about the cracks. The trio also reflects on Austin's weather whiplash and the city's Guinness World Record for the largest urban bat colony. Later, JB gets called out—via text—for being “a pain in the ass” to watch Longhorn football with. He owns it, hilariously. From fantasy football rants to anchovy secrets in chicken parm, this episode is a rollercoaster of laughs and feels.

How do you think our culture's view of living together before marriage differs from God's design?2. How have you seen “playing married” cause harm — in your own story or in others'?3. Season six kicks off in Grand—or, should we say—Sovereign Grand style! We recorded this episode of the podcast live from the historic hall of Kanawha Lodge #25 of Charleston, West Viriginia, host of the 2025 Sovereign Grand Lodge Session. We were joined by a wonderful live audience and guests who told us about what's going on in their jurisdictions. We heard about a tiny lodge in Rhode Island that suddenly had an influx of members, the growth of Encampments and Cantons in Texas, a roundabout way of getting the mayor of Pine Island, Minnesota to join that town's lodge, and many more great and inspiring stories from around Odd Fellowship. In the Odd Podge, Ainslie talked about how Thomas Wildey had to place several advertisements in the newspaper in Baltimore before he was able to round up enough Odd Fellows to form a lodge (and he also gave a great plug to Mike's new book Oddtistic); Mike announced his new podcast "Odd Fellows Today" again; and Toby shared why he comes to Sovereign Grand Lodge even without a job to do. Hint: it's all about all of you listeners out there!
