He sold three of them to Hollywood and somehow still managed to write his latest novel entirely by accident. He set out to write a short story. Then it got longer. Then it was a novella. Then it was 80,000 words and he had to admit he'd written a whole book, mostly at night, while still juggling film and TV work. We also talk about what's  changed in publishing since his Random House days (Hint: mid-list used to mean stable; now everyone's terrified of it), why chasing trends is a losing game when a book takes years to reach shelves, and why there are no rules for how long a chapter should be, except the one that matters: Don't make me want to stop reading. We also bond hard over the Oxford comma as well as the correct use of "less" and "fewer." Most sales conversations assume buyers make rational decisions. Ted Olson argues that's exactly why so many deals stall. Ted Olson is a sales strategist who helps founders, consultants, coaches, and sales teams use behavioral science to improve how buyers make decisions. He is the author of Feel Good About Selling and the upcoming book, Distinct, where he explores what happens between a buyer saying, "This makes sense," and actually saying, "Yes."  In this episode, Ted and Mark challenge one of sales' biggest assumptions: why buyers hesitate. Is it fear or a lack of confidence? Their lively debate uncovers what really drives buying decisions and how sellers can help buyers confidently say yes.    Why you have to check out today's podcast: Learn why buyers hesitate and why it often has nothing to do with your price. Discover how great salespeople build buyer confidence instead of pushing harder to close. Understand what "We'll think about it" really means so you can reduce hesitation before objections show up.   "Indecision is fear-based. Status quo is fear-based. If you can address that fear, you can double your close rates." –  Ted Olson   Topics Covered: 02:05 – Are Buyers Rational? The Psychology Behind Every Buying Decision. Are buyers driven by logic or emotion? Ted and Mark debate how buyer psychology, perceived value, and decision-making influence pricing more than most companies realize. 05:45 – Buyers Buy Futures, Not Features. Learn why listing more features rarely wins deals. Discover how buyers imagine future outcomes and why too much information creates uncertainty instead of confidence. 09:10 – Why Buyers Say, "We'll Think About It". Is it really about price? Ted explains why buyer indecision is usually driven by fear and uncertainty, not budget or competition. 13:30 – Buyer Confidence vs. Buyer Fear. Mark introduces his Buyer Confidence Framework—payoff, probability, and anticipated regret—while Ted argues that every hesitation can be traced back to fear. 17:15 – Handle Buyer Objections Before They Happen. The best salespeople don't overcome objections—they prevent them. Learn how anticipating buyer concerns early makes closing feel natural. 23:00 – Stop Building Trust. Start Building Buyer Confidence. Ted introduces his new sales philosophy: Always Build Confidence. The goal isn't getting buyers to trust you—it's helping them trust their own decision. 26:20 – Why Buyers Push Back When You Try Too Hard. Learn how psychological reactance causes buyers to resist pressure, urgency, and traditional sales tactics—even when your solution is the right fit. 30:05 – How to Become the Obvious Choice. Ted shares the PACE Framework (Positioning, Authority, Conversion, Expansion) and explains how experts become the first choice before pricing is even discussed. 32:45 – What Really Shapes Willingness to Pay? Does willingness to pay come from ROI alone? Ted explains how context, experience, status, and perceived risk dramatically influence what buyers are willing to spend.   Key Takeaways: "If we think about pricing purely rationally, we'll miss the mark 100%." — Ted Olson "Buyers buy when they feel safe enough to buy." — Ted Olson "When I train sellers, I don't think about making them better sellers. I think about making them better decision-making coaches." — Ted Olson    People & Resources Mentioned: Matt Dixon & Brent Adamson – Authors of The JOLT Effect, referenced for their research on reducing buyer indecision and limiting information overload. Alex Hormozi – Mentioned in relation to identifying every reason prospects hesitate to buy. Charlie Munger – Referenced for his perspective that value can be viewed as reward divided by punishment (or risk). Zig Ziglar – Mentioned during the discussion about helping buyers understand their own problems more clearly.   Connect with Ted Olson: Website: https://tedolson.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tedolson/   Connect with Mark Stiving: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stiving/ Email: mark@impactpricing.com

It's metabolically active tissue that plays a critical role in supporting your metabolism, blood sugar regulation, insulin sensitivity, strength, energy expenditure, and your body's ability to lose fat and keep it off.I'll discuss why fat loss becomes more difficult when muscle is lacking, why the number on the scale rarely tells the full story, and why building muscle, not simply eating less or doing more cardio, may be the missing piece to creating a stronger, healthier, more resilient body after 40.If you're tired of feeling like your hormones are working against you, this episode will give you a new perspective on what may actually be holding you back.Ready to go deeper? If you're a woman over 40 who feels like you're doing everything right, but your body still isn't responding the way it used to...this is exactly the work I do.My coaching is built around identifying what's keeping your body stuck, rebuilding the environment your hormones need to function, and creating a strategy you can actually execute long enough for it to work. You don't need more random inputs. You need a body that can respond to the right ones.CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE!Join me on Instagram! Transforming grief to strength… and moving on without a perfect plan with Christian ZepedaHow often do we delay our dreams because we don't have the entire plan figured out?Today's guest is endurance athlete, storyteller and adventurer Christian Zepeda. We explore his life journey, touching on the vulnerable topics of grief, resilience, identity, and the courage it takes to move forward when there is no certainty. After losing his mother to cancer, Christian found himself searching for something deeper than achievement. Through endurance sports, travel, and eventually departing on a self-supported adventure, he discovered that some of life's biggest transformations begin with a simple decision:"I don't know the route. I just know I'm going south."You'll hear a powerful conversation about how to navigate loss, trust your intuition, let go of the expectations that can keep us stuck and stagnating, and how to find meaning in the unknown. Hint: it starts with presence. This is an inspiring episode that reminds us, as John Wayne is quoted, “courage is being scared to death… but saddling up anyways.” If you're staring at a major life transition, grieving and recovering from loss, questioning your current path, rebuilding after burnout, or simply feeling called toward something bigger, today you'll come away with the heartfelt reminder that courage is rarely the absence of fear; courage is moving forward while you're feeling that fear. Christian and I also discuss lessons he learned after losing his mother to cancer; how and why adventure is a powerful tool for healing; the difference between feeling safe and feeling alive; trusting yourself when there is no roadmap; what happens when you stop living to meet other people's expectations; and why presence is often overlooked in modern life. The biggest takeaway for me is realizing that I've spent years preparing for a future life at the sacrifice of truly and deeply experiencing the flavors of life that are happening in the present:I'll start my business when I'm feeling confident and financially settled.I'll quit the job when I've saved a certain amount.I'll sign up for that race when my training has been great for three months. I'll chase that dream when I'm done working this season. It's funny how certainty and safety are an illusion. As attributed to Benjamin Franklin: "He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security."Christian's story reminds us all that growth doesn't begin when we know exactly how everything will unfold, at a time that's convenient with nothing else going on. Growth starts when we take the next best step for ourselves, even when it feels like we're walking out into the dark without star, a headlamp, or any reference point. If you have been challenged with anxiety, overwhelm, self-doubt, or the feeling that life is passing by while you're waiting for the "right time," this episode offers a refreshing perspective:You do not need the entire map today, friends. You just need the courage to take the next step.Listen today on Spotify (and follow the show!) here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4ZwZSywLvOO8uOQB2BGcX0?si=tC1A2X6hQPCR4GGzHo6kcABe sure to follow @cactusmoose, @theevolvingadventure and @christianzepeda2

Today on Astronomy Daily: Japan's Hayabusa2 pulls off a nail-biting high-speed asteroid flyby, James Webb finds the same unexplained chemical mystery on Titan AND Pluto, a neutrino detector may have caught the universe's oldest supernova echo, a wild new theory tries to solve the black hole information paradox, we wrap up the weekend's aurora action, and we look at when NASA's New Horizons might finally cross into interstellar space.Monday, July 6, 2026 1. Hayabusa2's Flyby of Asteroid Torifune •        JAXA's Hayabusa2 spacecraft flew within ~800 metres of near-Earth asteroid (98943) Torifune on July 5, 2026, at a relative speed of about 5.25 km/s (~18,000 km/h). •        This is an extended-mission flyby, not a sample return — Hayabusa2 already delivered Ryugu samples to Earth in December 2020. •        Purpose: engineering demonstration of high-precision navigation relevant to planetary defense (asteroid deflection technology). •        Torifune is roughly 450 metres across. Next stop for Hayabusa2: rendezvous with asteroid 1998 KY26 in 2031. •        Source: JAXA/ISAS, Nikkei Asia, phys.org (July 5, 2026). 2. Mystery Molecule Found on Both Titan and Pluto •        James Webb Space Telescope data reveals an unexplained absorption feature at ~5.11 micrometres on the surfaces of Titan (Saturn's largest moon) and Pluto. •        Evidence points to a surface origin rather than atmospheric origin, based on limb-vs-disc-center comparison on Titan. •        Candidate compounds include allenes, but no confirmed identification yet. •        Pluto's absorption line is roughly three times broader than Titan's at the same central wavelength. •        Study led by Dr. Bruno Bézard's team (Paris Observatory); posted to arXiv June 11, 2026 — not yet peer-reviewed. 3. Super-Kamiokande's Hint of the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background •        Super-Kamiokande collaboration presented results at Neutrino 2026 (UC Irvine) after analyzing ~5,000 days of data. •        Found a statistically significant excess of events between 13.3–81.3 MeV — consistent with the long-predicted Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background (DSNB). •        Significance: 2.6-sigma (~99.5% confidence) — below the 5-sigma discovery threshold, so described as an 'indication,' not a confirmed detection. •        If confirmed, DSNB would offer a new way to study the cosmic history of core-collapse supernovae via neutrinos rather than light. 4. A Theoretical Fix for the Black Hole Information Paradox •        New theoretical study proposes black holes stop evaporating just before vanishing completely, leaving a stable Planck-scale remnant (~9×10⁻⁴¹ kg). •        Mechanism: a repulsive force from spacetime torsion in a 7-dimensional Einstein-Cartan model, active at extreme (Planckian) densities. •        Proposal: quantum information is preserved via long-lived 'vibrations' in the remnant's internal torsion field. •        This is a theoretical/mathematical proposal, not an observational result. Researchers: Pinčák, Pigazzini, Pudlák, Bartoš. 5. Weekend Geomagnetic Storm / Aurora Wrap-Up •        X1.1 solar flare (June 30) and associated CME triggered a G3 (strong) geomagnetic storm around July 3–4, 2026. •        Aurora borealis visible as far south as Utah, Colorado, and Nevada in the continental US. •        NOAA SWPC reports conditions easing to unsettled/G1 levels through July 6 as CME effects wane. 6. Forecasting New Horizons' Crossing Into Interstellar Space •        SwRI researchers (lead: Dr. Jonathan Gasser) combined solar wind forecasting with heliosphere models to predict New Horizons' termination shock crossing. •        Forecast window: 2029–2040, with possible multiple crossings as the heliosphere expands/contracts with the solar cycle. •        New Horizons is currently ~66 AU from the Sun. Voyager 2 crossed its termination shock at 84 AU in 2007, with a 46% solar wind speed drop. •        New Horizons would become only the third spacecraft (after Voyager 1 and 2) to cross this boundary. •        Two papers: Advances in Space Research and The Astrophysical Journal (SwRI, 2026).Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/astronomy-daily-the-latest-space-news--5648921/support.Sponsor Details:Ensure your online privacy by using NordVPN. It seems that every day I get another reminder of my age. Sometimes it's at the gym trying to keep up with adults 20-25 years younger than me. Sometimes it's a meme about how old people were in movies, or what year certain classic movies about old times would be portraying if they were made today. Or the age of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. Hint: the biggest majority were younger than me. One today said “when you realize the old timers that trained you are gone and you are now the old guy doing the training.” While that's not entirely true, there are definitely more younger folks in ministry and I feel the pressure of answering things from the “older and wiser” position. While I'm older, I'm not sure I feel wiser. What if the thing keeping your content from landing isn't a missing strategy or the wrong platform, but the gap between how you actually communicate in real life and how you show up online? In this episode, I sit down with my friend Heather Sager, a high-performance coach for visionary and visible leaders who's got more than 1500 stages under her belt, to talk about why your voice is the most underrated asset in your business and what it takes to use it well. We get into what congruency actually means in your content, why short-form video is humbling even the most experienced speakers right now, and the concept Heather calls "creative atrophy", which is the subtle erosion happening in business owners who outsource their thinking to AI before they've done the work to clarify their own ideas. If you've been feeling like your content sounds flatter than it used to, or like you can't quite articulate the new direction your business is heading, this conversation will give you a much clearer picture of what's actually going on and what to do about it. Timeline Highlights [00:00] – Why I clicked on Heather's "I just told a bunch of business owners to take a dump" post and knew I had to have her on the show [03:01] – Heather's story of being a shy kid who became a person whose voice is her business [09:20] – The skill Heather didn't realize was unique until she'd spent years developing it [12:31] – Why questioning whether your stuff is good enough is the thing keeping you stuck [16:09] – Niche transformation and why it feels harder to talk about new offers than established ones [19:32] – The difference between processing, clarifying, and articulating your ideas [24:41] – Short-form video as the humbling moment for established experts [33:42] – Why looking stupid is part of the path to mastery on any new platform [42:48] – Heather on building a business where she's the same person backstage as on stage [51:08] – Creative atrophy and what happens when AI does the thinking your brain is supposed to do [55:11] – The skill that'll separate highly paid experts from the commoditized in the next five years Top Quotes from the Episode "Your voice is your business. You're already on stages all the time. The only question is whether you're using them on purpose." "If you don't even think your stuff is good, you can't expect anyone else to see you as an authority." "Processing your ideas, clarifying your ideas, and articulating your ideas aren't the same thing. Most people treat them like they are, and that's exactly why their messaging isn't landing." "Being good at speaking off the cuff isn't a personality trait. It's a skill that gets sharper with practice and dulls when you stop using it." "You've earned the right to skip the line, but business doesn't work that way. Every new platform asks you to be a humble beginner again." "When you let AI do the thinking your brain is supposed to be doing, the part of you that generates original ideas starts to atrophy. Six months later, you can't write an email without it." "The thing that'll separate the highly paid expert from the commoditized one over the next five years isn't output. It's the willingness to keep doing the hard creative work yourself." "Show up the way you talk. Get better at talking. The right people will recognize you faster than any polished version ever could."
