    Extraordinary Team Tips
The Hidden Cost of Bad Meetings (Hint: It's Not Time)

    Extraordinary Team Tips

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 29, 2026 5:19

Most leaders measure meeting effectiveness by how much time is spent. But the real cost of bad meetings has little to do with the clock. Poorly run meetings create unclear decisions, weaken accountability, slow execution, and erode trust across the organization. Over time, these hidden costs reduce an organization's ability to move quickly and achieve results. In this episode, we explore why decision clarity is one of the most important leadership disciplines and how a simple three-question framework can dramatically improve meeting outcomes. Key Takeaways ·         Unclear decisions create future work and repeated conversations ·         Recurring meetings often signal deeper leadership and alignment issues ·         Trust is built when meetings consistently produce clarity and accountability ·         Decision velocity is a critical driver of organizational performance ·         Every meeting should end with clear purpose, decisions, and ownership Discussion Questions 1.                       How often do team members leave your meetings with different interpretations of what was decided? 2.                       What recurring meetings in your organization may exist because of a lack of clarity elsewhere? 3.                       Where is decision velocity being slowed by repeated discussions? 4.                       What would improve if every meeting ended with clear ownership and next steps? 5.                       How much organizational trust is being built or lost through your meeting culture? Leadership Challenge For the next 30 days, end every meeting by answering three questions: 1.                       Why were we here? 2.                       What was decided? 3.                       Who owns the next step? Track how often issues reappear after decisions have been made. You may discover that meeting effectiveness is less about time management and more about leadership discipline. Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air! This week, Mike is in Florida, and Balazs is in Hungary. But we're here for you! In today's discussion, we tackle a listener suggestion. We're talking about entry-level watches and how brands approach this. Hint: it's very different today, with greater expectations from the buyer.Jumping into watches 15 to 20 years ago was a much different affair than now. Social media was barely present, prices were lower, and microbrands were almost non-existent. Our listener, Cezary, asked us to consider the brands representing the new entry-level category. We do that, but go further and talk about what this term means today and how larger brands interpret it. We hope you enjoy the show!HandgelenkskontrolleWe start our show with some travel banter. Balazs had a lengthy drive to Hungary with his baby daughter. It was relatively challenging, but after one night and 12 hours on the open road, he is enjoying some family time. Meanwhile, Mike flew from London to Miami and slept most of the way before and after watching Marty Supreme. Once again, The Odyssey surfaces during our chat. So be it! Then, we discuss LeBron James and the surprise signing with the Philadelphia 76ers. For the Handgelenkskontrolle, our choices couldn't be more different. Mike is enjoying the pool and jogging with this durable Citizen Promaster BN0220. Balazs has dressed it up with his Rolex GMT-Master 1675.Entry-level watchesWhen it comes to entry-level watches, our listener specifically asked about the Seiko sub-brand, Lorus, and whether it has replaced Seiko 5 as the low-cost option. The bottom line is that we don't think so. There's nothing wrong with these pieces, but they don't seem to be aimed at enthusiasts like the old 7S26 pieces were. Instead, it shifts our discussion to what we think has really occurred. As Seiko has raised prices, the company expects buyers to join the journey. In other words, the price of an affordable watch, as viewed by brands, has changed. Cezary also asked about Longines and whether the brand has become the new Omega. This came up because Omega's prices have drifted upward and Longines now occupies this price bracket. Our view is that there is still a large difference between the two, but that Longines has improved mightily. This leads to a further discussion on the remaining Swatch Group brands and how the hierarchy works. Our feeling, again, is that a brand like Omega wants a buyer to remain loyal and not move to a different brand under the corporate umbrella. Finally, we talk about the rise of microbrands. These companies have become the new entry-level darlings. However, the challenge for these companies is reach and differentiation. Still, for enthusiasts who conduct a bit of research, this is where the opportunities lie.We hope you enjoyed today's episode, and thank you for listening. As always, let us know if you have topics for future shows!

Conflict and complication at the edge of Eschatonica! In the Creed of Oracles' fortress courtyard, Antistrophe, Nicky, and Jonathan find out just how far the protocols of war go. And for those on the other side of the vast castle, progress will come only with mastery of another world's language and ritual… This week on Perpetua: Escape the Rumbling Castle! 05 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.06] Spoiler-free Ten Hint Puzzle Guide  This new section is inspired by the community addendum that xXzelgadyskXx did for the Alteros masquerade puzzle. As always, I want to try to preserve some sense of mystery for people using this guide, so I'll give a series of ten progressively more direct hints, but won't ever give the direct solution. Springsong Mural Puzzle  The large mural depicting Sprinsong's legendary Heroes of the Spark is more than meets the eye. Just be careful, because if you make too many wrong moves, the ostrich-like automatons will activate and defend the secrets here! Hint 1 There's more to the mural than meets the eye. Look closely at the symbols AND the middle… Hint 2 Some of the floor tiles in this room look different than the others.  Hint 3 Remember how you dealt with the flowers in the previous room? 'Springsong' is more than just a name. Hint 4 Springsong and Perpetua have different, but corresponding elements. You have to map them one to one if you want to crack this puzzle. Don't look at the next clue if you want to figure this one out yourself! Hint 5 Symbol Springsong Element Perpetua Element 3 Curved Sideways S's Breeze Air Downward Zigzags Spark Bolt Crescent Night Dark Triangle Mountain Earth Open Square Hearth Fire Teardrop Spring Ice Open Circle Sun Light Quatrefoil (Clover) Nature Poison Hint 6 In the story hidden in the Flower Room, you can learn that while the evil sorcerer of Springsong used all the elements (except Spark/Bolt) to harm the world, he took complete control of Spring (Ice), Night (Dark), and Nature (Poison).  Hint 7 You'll have to use the magic of the remaining elements (Air, Bolt, Earth, Fire, Light) to complete this puzzle. Remember that in Springsong, you must perform in order to use magic! Hint 8 Don't just look at the Mural, use the "Study" action on the heroes depicted there. What can you learn from their names? Hint 9 By combining the elements together you can create different letter runes. Pay attention to the combinatory effect! By the way, the letter Z doesn't seem to exist in Springsong. Hint 10 The heroes of Springsong must be very naive if this is the password to their secret vault...   Hosted by Austin Walker (austinwalker.bsky.social) Featuring Ali Acampora (ali-online.bsky.social), Art Martinez-Tebbel (amtebbel.bsky.social), Jack de Quidt (notquitereal.bsky.social),  Janine Hawkins (@bleatingheart), Sylvi Bullet (@sylvibullet), Keith J Carberry (@keithjcarberry) and Andrew Lee Swan (swandre3000.bsky.social) Produced by Ali Acampora Music by Jack de Quidt (available on bandcamp) Cover Art by Ben McEntee (https://linktr.ee/benmce.art) With thanks to Amelia Renee, Arthur B., Aster Maragos, Bill Kaszubski, Cassie Jones, Clark, DB, Daniel Laloggia, Diana Crowley, Edwin Adelsberger, Emrys, Greg Cobb, Ian O'Dea, Ian Urbina, Irina A., Jack Shirai, Jake Strang, Katie Diekhaus, Ken George, Konisforce, Kristina Harris Esq, L Tantivy, Lawson Coleman, Mark Conner, Mike & Ruby, Muna A, Nat Knight, Olive Perry, Quinn Pollock, Robert Lasica, Shawn Drape, Shawn Hall, Summer Rose, TeganEden, Thomas Whitney, Voi, chocoube, deepFlaw, fen, & weakmint This episode was made with support from listeners like you! AI can give you an answer. But it can't be genuinely curious about you.In this episode, I'm joined by our lead speaking coach, Diane Diaz, to explore why curiosity is essential for developing a compelling thought leadership message and signature talk, especially in an age when AI can quickly produce polished but often predictable content.Diane shares a powerful analogy about browsing library stacks: You may begin by looking for one book, only to discover an unexpected idea on the shelf beside it. That kind of exploration and serendipity is often where your most original insights come from.We also talk about why being too close to your expertise can make it difficult to recognize what is most interesting about your ideas and experiences - and why the right questions from another human can uncover connections and stories you would never find through a fill-in-the-blank formula.Diane and I discuss:How relying too heavily on AI can weaken our curiosityWhy constraints can help you create a stronger talk more quicklyThe questions that uncover your most compelling ideas and storiesWhy your curiosity about your audience matters as much as your expertiseHow curiosity contributes to originality, personal connection, and even humorYour audience doesn't need more information. They want a reason to become curious about your idea and about you.About Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox. For over two decades, I've helped women learn how to become coaches, get clients, grow their businesses, and create meaningful income doing work they love.An algorithm is just a sorting system. There's no person in there judging your work, nobody can fully explain how it functions, and it changes constantly. So instead of trying to crack a code, let's build something sturdier.Imagine never again refreshing a post and wondering if the algorithm buried you. When you build on real conversations, real rooms, searchable content, and an audience you own, your business stops depending on a machine nobody understands. That's how you build something that lasts.

In this episode of Social Media Decoded, Michelle Thames shares the biggest business decision she made this year and why it completely changed the direction of her business. Instead of focusing on creating more content, she made the intentional decision to build community—and it has led to more opportunities, stronger relationships, speaking engagements, partnerships, and meaningful business growth. Michelle takes you behind the scenes of why she's investing in local businesses, hosting Coffee & Connections, organizing intimate networking dinners, and creating Connected & Paid Live. She explains why relationships have become her most valuable marketing strategy and why building a community will always outperform chasing followers. If you're an entrepreneur, content creator, or business owner wondering how to build a brand that lasts, this episode will challenge the way you think about marketing, networking, and business growth. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why building community is more valuable than creating endless content The biggest business decision Michelle made this year How relationships create opportunities that algorithms never can Why local community building has become part of Michelle's business strategy The difference between building an audience and building a community How networking events can become relationship accelerators Why saying "no" creates space for bigger opportunities How to build a business that aligns with your values instead of trends DM Michelle the word "COMMUNITY" on Instagram if this episode resonated with you and share what you're building. And then we lose the ability to enjoy it - even if we managed to turn it into something amazing. This episode will remind you how important it is to linger in the good. Sometimes that is exactly what's needed.

The information President Trump released publicly is alarming and on a scale of 1-10 is probably an 8 or 9 news story.  But his speech missed the mark by a wide margin.  It may not have mattered if they delivered this in a better way but it sure didn't come off the way many thought it would.    The Blue Angels did the wildest flyover anyone can remember this week in Florida and is under review.  But the Pentagon says the shows will go on for America 250.    The man that operates the teleprompter for President Trump is in trouble for betting on Kalshi about certain phrases that would or wouldnt be in certain speeches.    In England, the British Open is underway and these guys are going low in perfect conditions.  One American player got the last laugh on a critic after his round.  Mike Tyson doesn't know Shohei Ohtani is a man.    Patrick Mahomes makes a bold statement that whether he plays or not in Game 1 has been taken out of his hands.    KCMO Councilman Nathan Willett is running for Congress in North Missouri and we'll chat with him about what he stands for an against.

Every time I roll out something new, this is how I do it — I get paid to create the program. I also break down why less than one in ten people who watch this will actually do it, and how to deal with the one thing stopping you. Hint: it's not strategy.
