Two Aussie women open our Bibles and learn, laugh and love Jesus together - we'd love you to join us each Wednesday. Each episode we read a passage of Scripture and then talk about it 'til the cows come home! We end each episode with a prayer based upon what we've learnt from Scripture.
Sharon Jackson and Bianca Drage
Turns out, this is our only Easter episode. Today we're talking about the first Last Supper, when Jesus shared the Passover celebration with his closest friends, the Twelve Disciples. This episode was recorded a few days before WHO announced that COVID-19 had caused a pandemic, and like everyone, the Sheilas have taken time to settle into a new groove in the weeks since. But for now, we offer this special Maundy Thursday / Easter episode, where the Sheilas discover Jesus is the perfect Passover sacrifice and see the significance of all Holy Communion helps us remember.Instagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_TalkWebsite: SheilasTalkScripture.comClick subscribe in your podcast app to make sure you don't miss the sheilas talking Scripture when we're back next time with the first worldwide disaster - the Flood.
Today's episode is not all fun and giggles, because Genesis 5 is a list of the family line from Adam to Noah. The one thing they all had in common? They all died... all except Enoch, that is. We check out his unusual story as well.Sharon reads Genesis 5 and the sheilas talk death, cryogenics and frozen embryos. They also check out what Bianca's favourite book of the Bible, Jude, has to say about Enoch, and talk about what it means to walk with God.The sheilas discover that Enoch and Jesus had a lot in common, because they both pleased God and both were taken up to heaven by God. They see that it's important for us to walk with God as well, with the help of the Spirit.Website: SheilasTalkScripture.comInstagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_TalkClick subscribe in your podcast app to make sure you don't miss the sheilas talking Scripture with the Easter story next week.
Today we're talking about sin, murder and mayhem in the lives of Cain, Abel and Seth and in the family line of Cain. It's a tragic story, because sin is tragedy.Sharon reads Genesis 4 and the sheilas talk about Cain's choice to let sin rule over him, and just how difficult it is for anyone to stay away from sin. They see Lamech follow the same path as his great-great-great... grand daddy but also see signs of hope in Abel's brother and his nephew. The sheilas discover Abel and Seth were a little like Jesus, but Cain and his descendant Lamech were more like the serpent. They see that Jesus calls us not to seek revenge, but to forgive and keep on forgiving.Website: SheilasTalkScripture.comInstagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_Talk
Sin, sin, the tragedy of sin. Today we examine the history of the first sin and the beauty of God's solution to our sin.Sharon reads Genesis 3 and the sheilas talk about the serpent's bad advice for Eve, Adam and Eve's choice to take that bad advice, and the fig leaves they wore as a result... as well as the consequences and curses God proclaimed to them and the clothes he made to cover them. The sheilas discover Jesus is the true and perfect covering for their sin. Jesus calls people out of a life trying to cover sin through our own actions with whatever fig leaves we can find, and into a life of glorious forgiveness.Website: SheilasTalkScripture.comInstagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_Talk
Today we're talking First Peoples - the first people from whom all of us are descended - Adam and Eve. We're also checking out the watered garden which God prepared for them to be their home - Eden.Sharon reads Genesis 2:5-26 and the sheilas talk about the spring and river that watered Eden and brought life to the whole earth. They discuss the first Adam, the man of dust; the helper God made to suit him, Eve; and the two trees at the centre of their home. They also talk about Adam and Eve's one flesh marriage and their life working together, unashamed. The sheilas discover that Jesus is the final Adam, the man of heaven, perfect and sinless. He's also the true Living Water that abundantly sustains us.Website: SheilasTalkScripture.comInstagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_Talk
Sharon and Bianca begin by explaining why they have chosen the Bible translations they prefer to read. Then they start talking Scripture at the very beginning, the beginning of everything.Sharon reads Genesis 1:1 - 2:4 and the sheilas ask, who told the story of Genesis 1, since only God was around for the events of the first 25 verses? They discover that God is the creator, who creates in an orderly, systematic fashion. In the first three days, God made a home and on the next three days God filled that home with life, including the first people, created in his image. On the seventh day, God rested.Website: SheilasTalkScripture.comInstagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_Talk
Bianca and Sharon outline their R-4C-P method to talking Scripture."Speak LORD, for your sheilas are listening!" Our conversations begin when we read a passage of Scripture, allowing God to talk to us. Then we talk through four aspects of the passage, using four key words: context, content, connect and conform. We finish talking Scripture with prayer, where we talk back to God.Website: SheilasTalkScripture.comInstagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_Talk
The story arc of the Old Testament comes into focus in the New Testament, and that focus is on Jesus Christ.Sharon explains the story arc that flows through the Old Testament, where God creates, claims and keeps a people for his very own. At first, God's people are a family with sons, then wandering refugees. 12 tribes becomes one kingdom - and then two. The kingdom is sent among the nations before they learn to truly worship God.In the New Testament we read of a family with one son, the Son of God. We see him living as a refugee from heaven, wandering the land God gave to his people. There are 12 disciples and a single, united church which spreads among the nations. Finally, as God's people, we are learning to worship him in Spirit and in Truth.Website: SheilasTalkScripture.comInstagram: Sheilas Talk Scipture We'd love to hear your comments!Twitter: Sheilas_Talk
