"Survival is more then just staying alive". Every single day it feels like we are faced with challenges to overcome. Something I have learned over the years is that our ability to handle our "survival" affects our mental health. In this podcast, I (Survival Nick) intend to learn as much as I can about mental health, addiction, how to be a good dad, partner, friend, and community member. I openly identify as someone who struggles with mental health and addictions and after working for several years in the recovery field, I am ready for a new journey. Join me please. *

"Does this trigger you?" I feel like almost anytime somebody asks that question, they are hoping that you ARE triggered. I have a problem with that word and it's use in our culture. These are some of my rambling thoughts as I sit on a porch on a nice day. #Triggered #mentalhealth #MHSG #SurvivalNick #Recovery #Hope #Wellness #Tumblr #Safespace #TriggerWarning #Activated #problems #Wordsmatter

Local radio legend Amanda Dagley and I find a lot of neat tidbits as we explore how mental health survival has affected some of our favorite recording artists. This was a fun episode because Amanda is such a bright light in my life (and to our community), AND we recorded this at her home during an epic lighting storm (at one point the lighting and thunder was so powerful we saw sparks in the air right before the thunder shook the whole house). This episode was very difficult for me to make. I don't often have a problem talking about mental health or my recovery, but I usually try and avoid getting too personal...well, now the cat is out of the bag. I only hope it's not as cringy and dumb sounding as I feel like it is. WARNING, I talk about my major depression, my frustrations with the world, and a little about suicide. -If you are struggling, please give the folks at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline a call 800-273-8255 or if you would rather text, Text "Hello" to 741741.
