As this sermon is the last of this series it is focused towards the hope of eternity. The key text is 2 Corinthians 5:1-10. Paul rejoices in his sufferings because the life of Christ will be revealed. He admonishes the believers at Corinth to cling on to the hope of a life after death. Leaving this temporary tent is death. Paul is hard pressed from both side, he like to live for the benefit of the believers on one side and in the other he wish to die to be with Christ. As long as we live in this body we are far from Christ. Longing to leave this body and to receive the heavenly body is the greatest hope of a child of God. Do not live in the light of what is seen but live in the light of what is not seen.
Based on Joshua 1:11, Pastor Blessen Mathew spoke on the topic ‘crossing Jordan.’ Move into the next level in prayer, worship, job etc. Some people are called to do more for God than others. Joshua was nervous in leading people. But he trusted in God and become courageous to take wise decisions. Many are driven by fear to do things in life. Only a person with the Spirit of anointing can step out in faith. Each of us has a battle to fight. He also has given us strength to fight our battle. Dividing Jordan is God’s business. They just need to move ahead. God said He will do wonders among you. The sermon also explained the importance of giving to God’s kingdom.
Roy Tozer prayed, “Lord come feelingly to us...” Feel Jesus in your life. In this world Jesus is invisible. The church is seen. So love between the believers is significant for our Christian life. We persecute people inside our hearts. Fasting should help us to leave the oppressed free. It is not just abstaining from having food. Unforgiveness will ruin you and your spiritual life. We need to ask forgiveness to people rather than spiritualising everything. Jeremiah warned the people of Israel, that God will declare a punishment if you don’t leave your oppressed free.
Often we are interested in spiritual gifts not in the fruits of the Spirit. God wants us to be fruitful against all the worldly things. Devil is not an equal opponent for Jesus. He is a created being. To express God’s love to us, His son died on the cross and redeemed us. The human beings could be the looser because we cannot win devil. Therefore, God sent His son for us. The life on earth is fragile but the cross assured us salvation. The cross brings meaning to Christianity and a means to worship God.
Be submissive in the hands of the potter. As long as you are malleable the potter can work on you. Never cross the line of No return. Always be available for the ministry in church. Moses at the age of eighty, doing nothing significant in life thought this was the way he would end his life. But God called him in that age to go back to the place from where he ran away in fear 40 years ago. God’s power is manifested through Moses. Church need to be transparent as it allows other people see Jesus through you. Let us not be isotropic stones. The pleasures of the world and the fruits of the flesh will not allow us to enter into the new city of Jerusalem.
In a situation, the way you face or handle the situation will decide your attitude. Either you can choose the circumstance to change your attitude or your attitude could be changed by a circumstance. It only in Jesus you can find the right attitude. Your blessing is not on material things, but how much you can trust God decides your blessings on earth. Be thankful in your life for everything. Though it is a little thing, like Jesus gave thanks to the Father for the five loaves and two fishes, be thankful. Paul practised what he preached about Christ. He became humble and continued to focus on Christ.
The first advent of Jesus Christ was the remission of sins and he will return to all who wait for Him. Jacob pitched a tent for him to stay and also built altar. Life on earth is temporary and only what we do for God will last for the life to come. Do not worry too much about what is happening today, but focus on to God. Catch a vision about the lamb of God on the heavenly throne. Look for a city with a strong foundation. People like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob eagerly waited for that city with foundation. Your individual life, family and church need an altar that will signify the presence of God.
God does not break a bruise reed; a smoking flax He will not quench. God turns the most useless instrument useful. He prepared a place that none of us have witnessed. The presence of God makes us different in life. Jews missed Him, they did not respond to His call to come unto Him. But one of the most educated Pharisee Paul became the disciple and a powerful follower of Jesus Christ. In all his physical afflictions apostle Paul cling on to Jesus. In this sermon he also refers to Jacob, who sought opportunities to lean on in Shechem. But God decided to move him out of the country. His angelic encounter changed his life as a future promise to Israel.
Based on 1 John 1:1 Pr. Thomas Mathew talked about experiencing Jesus closely. The disciples have heard about Jesus, seen Him with their eyes, looked at and touched Him. It is a progressive revelation that every believer need to take Jesus on board. In the Old Testament Moses had desire to see God. God did allow him to have a partial revelation. Many try to look at Him from a far distance. God desires our intimacy; He is inviting all to come close. As you lean on to Jesus’ chest, in an intimate relationship you receive the most glorious revelation.
