Unseen Footage is hosted by David Armstrong, who watched all the best movies as a kid, and Claire Yale, who didn't. Each episode, David has Claire watch a movie and through her grownup-minded questions, attempts to convince her just how great the movie was and still is. Every month, a new movie, a new discussion!

Unseen FootageEpisode 7 - Dumb and Dumber, Dumb and Dumber ToApologies for the delay! We've been busy, and some new things are happening with Unseen Footage in the New Year, so we're getting ready for that! In any case, this deluxe episode is here for your enjoyment. We discuss Dumb and Dumber, a favorite among 90s kids, and its sequel, that got released just last month, to not-surprisingly lackluster reviews. Everyone knew it was going to be bad, so let's focus on the good: Jim Carrey's amazing acting ability, Jeff Daniels' making the most of it, some of the most beloved bits and sight gags that stand the test of time, and unintentionally bad characterization that leads to some awesome moments. For the Christmas season, enjoy Lloyd Christmas, and his friend Harry, as they try to make it through two movies alive. Beware the Sea Bass!Download the episode here!
For the holiday season, Unseen Footage has decided to tackle a comedy classic and its recently-released sequel! That's right, David and Claire talk about the iconic 90s comedy Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as the idiotic Lloyd and Harry trying to return a briefcase to Mary Swanson, the girl of Lloyd's dreams. They discuss Daniels' placement in the movie, the awkward characterization of almost everyone in the movie, and the bits that are still the best. In part 2 (or To) the duo discuss the sequel that's quite obviously twenty years too late. This time, it's Harry's adventure, to meet his daughter he didn't know about, and who soon becomes the girl of Lloyd's dreams. They discuss the forced comedy, the shift of the audience's tastes in characters and comedy, and try their best to redeem this difficult sequel. Included: a spoiler alert for the first episode of January! Also, NOTE to the listeners: there's a bit of volume level discrepancy between part 1 (a bit low) and 2, so just be aware! Thanks!
Unseen FootageEpisode 6 - Beetlejuice Happy Halloween! To celebrate, Claire and David retread some familiar ground with director Tim Burton, and his other movie with Michael Keaton: 1988's BEETLEJUICE! What follows is a discussion of the film's overall flaws and shortcomings. Claire wants to give the whole movie an extreme makeover, but David argues for the approach taken, warning about worse things that could have happened, both lighter and darker. Does the movie work on its own, or is it just full of good ideas? Who exactly are we supposed to root for in the proceedings? And find out what Claire would do given eternity in this month's Unseen Footage!Download the episode here!

Unseen FootageEpisode 5 - Point Break1991's Kathryn Bigelow-directed action surfer flick is a trip, to say the least. No one is quite sure how to describe it or explain it, but the ride is enjoyable nonetheless. Claire and David attempt to put everything into words as they talk about the performances of Swayze, Reeves, Petty, and Busey, as they debate the validity of the iconic skydiving scene, Claire puts forward a thesis on action movies, and David puts forth a thesis on bromances. It's September's episode where we discuss either the greatest surfer bank robbery movie ever made, or the greatest surfer bank robbery movie you've never seen, because this is Unseen Footage!Download the episode here!
With the summer over, it's nice to look back with fondness by revisiting a summer blockbuster: 1991's Point Break, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. An unexpected hit when it first arrived in theaters, the movie combines action sequences with existential conversation, buddy cop detective work with surfer culture. It's action and bromance, with a 90s flair. Join Claire and David as they discuss audiences sympathizing with unsympathetic characters, merits of action movies, and just how coherent is this movie, really? We also have a spoiler alert for our October movie, so get ready for that!
Unseen FootageEpisode 4 - Labyrinth1986's Jim Henson/George Lucas/Terry Jones/Brian Froud/David Bowie collaboration was initially a flop, and was confusing in tone compared to the '82 Dark Crystal. In subsequent years, especially that weird time called the early 90s, it became somewhat of a cult classic in the vein of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Claire and David dive straight into the problems of "road movies", journeys that teach lessons, and the characterizations of this movie specifically. No one knows exactly how we ended up with Labyrinth, but Jim Henson's puppet wizardry is absolutely fantastic.Download the episode here!
Claire and David head into the Labyrinth for one incredibly puppet-laden and frustrating journey. Well, for Claire anyway. It's a rather fitting end to the summer here, with Claire and David discussing exactly what this movie was trying to accomplish, the implications of Jareth and Sarah's relationship, and does the spectacle of the puppetry make up for the lack of character depth, plot clarity, and lack of stakes? David says, "Probably!" Claire says, "Probably not."
Unseen Footage Episode 3 - Clueless1995's cult comedy adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma on its surface may seem like a simple teen coming-of-age chick flick, with a socially conscious valley girl at its center. But that's just the surface! Claire and David go into the sharp and witty dialogue, the satirical send-up, and the deceptively complex characters. They also love how beautifully (and permanently) the movie encapsulates the 90s. For those questioning the portrayal of women in the media today, as well as fans of comedy in general, Clueless is a marvelous intersection.Download the episode here!
It's the summer edition, and the third episode of Unseen Footage! This month, David and Claire take on the successful girl comedy that is Clueless. They delve into opinions both on comedic standpoints and gender standpoints. They talk about the dialogue and the character depth. They wax nostalgic on maps. We've also added a spoiler at the end for next month's movie! Enjoy!
Unseen FootageEpisode 2- Batman1989's Batman can be argued as the movie that kickstarted the entire comic movie franchise into high gear. Only Superman had made a successful leap to the big screen, and everything else about every other superhero was rather campy and trite. Tim Burton and Michael Keaton set out to change all that, with a darker and grittier adaptation of the dark knight, years before Christopher Nolan ever would. And Burton still manages to balance comedic set pieces with brilliant character nuance. Join Claire and David as they present their respective theses on Batman as a character, as well as how this movie stands up to the rest of the canon.Download the episode here!
Episode 2 of Unseen Footage! Claire's seen the Nolan trilogy of Batman films, but not the 1989 Burton classic that started the entire comic book movie movement. We discuss this Batman, both of our larger theories on Bruce Wayne as a character, Joker as a villain, Kim Basinger's Vicki Vale as a powerless female character, and just exactly who is Michael Keaton?
Unseen FootageEpisode 1 - Hook1991's Hook may be one of the divisive entries we're likely to do on Unseen Footage, and it's our debut episode! It's the movie that started led to the conception of the show, and one of David's favorite movies of all time. People are firmly divided over the film's quality, over generational lines, over critical lines, and over Peter Pan mythos lines. But we're here to talk about both its merits and its shortcomings, so joins us won't you? For our first episode! Download the episode here!
Our debut episode of Unseen Footage! Join us for our inaugural discussion of Hook, the story of adult Peter Pan battling an old man Captain Hook for custody of his kids! It's been 20 years in the making for Claire, who's lived comfortably outside this staple of pop culture throughout her life. Does the Boy Who Never Grew Up make a good father? Was it all a dream? What is the Anne Hathaway List of Hated Actresses? Find out in this month's episode!
