Sarah and Raf are back, and they've got some questions: Who's really the king of the rumba beat? Can Sarah buy the set of the Coco Bongo, or at least the stairs? Is anyone going to take Milo outside?!?In case you haven't guessed, this episode is all about the fun, silly, and occasionally thrilling Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz film "The Mask." Set in the grimy yet gorgeous Edge City, a city where methane emissions make for beautiful sunsets and a S.W.A.T standoff can turn into a musical number, this 1994 film is an “action/gangster/secret musical/romantic comedy” according to Raf and “very Busby Berkeley meets Gotham City” according to Sarah. It features Jim Carrey as the meek Stanley Ipkiss...until he turns into the wildly mugging Mask. It also introduces Cameron Diaz in a stunning, star-making role as Tina. And we can't forget Milo, Stanley's Jack Russell terrier who is truly the best boy.Grab your favorite nautical print pajamas and get ready to revisit the movie that, according to its own VHS cover, was "Fantastic fun!" -- and in this case, the marketing isn't wrong. (Also, please note that the hosts discuss the entire plot of the movie; so if you don't want it spoiled, go watch it before listening.)(TW: mention of sexual assault)

In this episode of Zero Dark Nerdy, Brian sits down with the brilliant and hilarious Baron Vaughn — stand-up comedian featured in the new film Anxiety Club (out now on Jolt!).Baron opens up about his journey into stand-up, the comedian who inspired him to strive for authenticity, and how he commands the stage and manages life on the road to stay grounded in the present. He and Brian swap funny and honest stories about setting boundaries, practicing self-care, and putting personal well-being first in high-pressure environments.Later, hosts Brian and Jordan dive into their favorite comedians, comedy shows, and movies — celebrating everything from Jim Carrey to Dave Chappelle to Workaholics to Broad City, Anchorman, The Office, VEEP & more!
Happy BIG 4-0 to Jim Carrey's teen sex comedy meets vampire spoof ONCE BITTEN (we also discuss his big screen breakthrough ACE VENTURA PET DETECTIVE) and Sylvester Stallone in one of the biggest hits of his career ROCKY IV (we also look back at ROCKY BALBOA and CLIFFHANGER). Cam and Dylan are back in the lab spreading talking about one of Jim Carrey's most underrated chaos-fests Fun with Dick and Jane! In this episode, they dive deep into the 2005 comedy where Dick (Carrey) and his wife Jane (Téa Leoni) go from suburban comfort to full-blown heist mode after losing everything thanks to a corrupt company. It's Breaking Bad meets Office Space — but with way more mugging to the camera and less meth. The guys break down the film's wild tone shifts, that early-2000s corporate satire energy, and the pure unhinged joy of watching Jim Carrey rob a bank in a ski mask while grinning like a cartoon character. Expect jokes, nostalgic takes, and a few “what would you do if Enron stole your 401(k)?” moments. By the end, you'll either be ready to rewatch the movie… or start your own Bonnie & Clyde reboot called HR & Payroll. Wanna ask us something?!? Vivi (Vicky), character design analyst and video essayist, joins the podcast to break down how fame is built, sold, and protected. After a clear-eyed look at the “next big thing” machine around actors like Mason Thames, we examine how Hollywood favors familiar, marketable faces, how race and colorism shape visibility, how listicles and PR language disguise old hierarchies as meritocracy, and why certain careers are pre-selected long before the audience thinks it has chosen. From there, we move into fame as a system through To Be Hero X, Oshi no Ko, and My Hero Academia: trust scores and hero towers, idol factories and weaponized fandom, rankings and school pipelines that turn human beings into managed brands. We connect how these stories show image as currency, audiences as enforcement, and corporations as the final arbiter of who is celebrated, discarded, or sacrificed. All this, plus the content creator pipeline, sponsorship logic, scandal management, selective cancellation, and what it means to live as a product in an attention economy that never switches off. This episode is direct, detailed, and unromantic about what modern fame demands—and what it quietly costs.0:00 – IntroShow open, “I've Been Meaning To Watch That” intro, this week's topic preview. 0:26 – Meet Vivi (Vicky)Vivi introduces herself, her character design work, and how she reads visual choices and tropes. 1:21 – Episode OverviewFraming the three texts (To Be Hero X, Oshi no Ko, My Hero Academia) and “fame as a system.” 2:07 – Media Mania: Mason Thames & Manufactured StarsVulture article, Mason Thames' three #1 films, “ordinary” palatable whiteness, comparison to Jim Carrey, Daniel Kaluuya, Mahershala Ali, Caleb McLaughlin vs co-stars, listicles, casting patterns, race and colorism in who gets momentum.25:00 – What Is Fame As A System?Defining fame beyond Hollywood: power in a name, internet volatility, person-to-product pipeline.36:29 – Enter To Be Hero X (Context + Why It Hits)Underrated status, production, anthology structure, trust value system, Hero Tower explained.40:53 – Style, Structure, and the Hero FactoryVisual language, hero/villain PR, reality show framing, shipping, consent, system manufacturing crime and narratives.51:05 – Trust vs Fear & Who Gets ProtectedHeroes as controlled assets, commission, balance of worship and terror, parallels to scandalous but untouchable figures. 1:12:04 – Oshi no Ko: Idol Industry and Weaponized ParasocialityPilot, reincarnation hook without plot spoiling, how the show dissects exploitation, image labor, fans as enforcement.1:54:04 – My Hero Academia: Hero Rankings and Marketable MoralitySeries summary, school-as-industry pipeline, quirks as brandable assets, Class 1-A vs 1-B, children groomed into a hero economy.2:22:15 – Endgame: Systems That Eat Their OwnClosing on endings discourse, systemic rot, why To Be Hero X reads like Oshi no Ko + MHA pushed to its logical conclusion. 2:31:48 – WatchlistUpcoming watches: Chainsaw Man movie, My Hero Academia catch-up, other anime on the radar.Vicky's Linktreehttps://linktr.ee/viviwithavTikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@viviwithav2.0YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@viviwithavPodcast SocialsYouTube https://www.youtube.com/@ivebeenmeaningtowatchthatp2316Twitter: https://twitter.com/BeenMeaning2PodTiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ivebeenmeaning2podFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Ive-Been-Meaning-To-Watch-That-113280083760521/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ivebeenmeaning2/

This week, Ben and Rob step into the perfectly staged world of The Truman Show (1998), Peter Weir's masterful satire starring Jim Carrey at his nuanced best. From the meticulously constructed Seahaven to the hidden puppeteering of Truman's life, this film gets the lads asking one big question: how much attention is the right amount for you?The lads explore how Peter Weir, yet again, finds greatness in the people around him - from cast to crew - and drop some behind-the-scenes gems that will make you appreciate every frame. Meanwhile, Andrew Niccol's script continues to astonish with its prescience and control over the surreal comedy-drama. They also dive into the bizarre cultural resonance, from Lady Diana parallels to the Truman Delusion, and deliver possibly the best ‘what does it all mean' of the show yet.PLUS! We spend the first 20 minutes - impromptuly - discussing the new Bruce Springsteen biopic DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE, and biopics and The Boss in general. If that's not your bag, feel free to skip ahead the 22-minute mark or so (though know we're silently judging you and you should reconsider your taste in music). In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela react to the week's strangest stories, including a little-known actor breaking Jim Carrey's box office record and the election of socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani in New York City. The crew moves through viral headlines, quick news bits, and absurd cultural moments that feel stranger than parody. The discussion shifts to Halloween mishaps and international controversies over comics performing abroad, sparking debate about free speech, audience sensitivity, and the unpredictable line between politics and humor. Later, they dive into stories about Tom Brady cloning his dog, a UPS cargo plane crash, and the public's reaction to Dick Cheney's death. The show closes with odd headlines about New York housing policy and Paul McCartney's unexpected message to a critic, wrapping a mix of satire, current events, and dark comedy into one unpredictable episode. On Episode #141 of Fear and Loathing in Cinema, there are, depending on how many voices you hear in your head, two, possibly three people who dared to confront The Number 23, Joel Schumacher's 2007 cinematic thriller of numerology, noir, and naked Jim Carrey angst. Yes, that Joel Schumacher. You know, the maestro behind The Lost Boys, Flatliners, and the Batman movie that introduced us to the concept of heroic rubber nipples. He was a man of texture, you might say. The post Episode #141 – The Number 23 (2007) first appeared on Boomstick Comics.

Interested in Scientology? Ever watch the “Truman Show” movie with Jim Carrey? Check out this long overdue interview with my longtime friend, the charming and resilient Tory “Magoo” Christman. Tory, was in Scientology for thirty years, had reached the uppermost levels of Hubbard's “Bridge to Total Freedom,” specifically OT7 (OT8 is the highest) and was involved with John Travolta directly from the beginning of the Celebrity Centre. Ever since exiting after being manipulated by officials to disrupt the Internet group (at the beginning of the internet), ever since realizing the facts about the group, Tory has been devoting her time and energy to helping people get informed- and assisting people when they want to leave. Tory has helped me with clients and has a very active YouTube channel and still does street outreach. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
McKay explores a collection of life-altering epiphanies by asking the powerful question, “What has been one of the most helpful thoughts or epiphanies that you have had that has made you more free or empowered to act?” He reveals how simple yet profound shifts in thinking can redefine our reality, from the principle that “what you focus on expands” to the freedom that comes from choosing our thoughts.Using the incredible story of Jim Carrey's focused visualization, McKay illustrates how our focus acts like a spotlight, magnifying whatever it shines on. He also introduces the powerful management metaphor of “the monkey on your back,” teaching that we can empower others and protect our own priorities by refusing to take on problems that are not ours to solve. Citing profound near-death experiences and the work of thinkers like Mel Robbins, he demonstrates that we always have the agency to choose our thoughts and actions, regardless of our feelings or circumstances. Ultimately, this episode is a guide to identifying and embracing the ideas that empower us to live with more intention, joy, and resilience, serving as a powerful reminder that our greatest freedom lies in our ability to choose our perspective.Main Themes:Our thoughts and energy have a way of magnifying what we focus on, whether it is problems or solutions. We can empower others and avoid burnout by not adopting their problems or responsibilities (“monkeys”) as our own.True and lasting joy is often found by savoring the small, simple moments in life rather than chasing grand experiences. The resilience to overcome challenges comes not from perfection, but from the simple commitment to “just try” again and again. We have complete agency over our thoughts; we can choose grace, optimism, and action regardless of external circumstances or internal feelings.Understanding that our journey continues after this life provides a powerful incentive to invest in becoming our best selves now.Top 10 Quotes:“What you focus on expands.”“What I went through made me who I am. What I am going through will make me what I will be. What I choose to put my focus toward will now create that person.”“We do not remember the years that come and go in our life, but we do remember the moments.”“Successful people have very clear goals. They know who they are and what they want. They write them down and make plans for their accomplishment.”“I do not have to adopt other people's problems as my own to help them.”“I get to choose what I think about.”“The test is not whether you reach your goals in one burst of energy, but the test is to see if you will stay in the game and just try.”“There is always a way, even when it feels like there is not.”Show Links:Open Your Eyes with McKay Christensen

In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela open with the night's headlines, from National Guardsmen refusing to enter Portland to John Stamos' defense of Lori Loughlin. The crew unpacks the phrase “busted her up to the core,” swaps stories, and invites viewers to call in with their own confessions before diving into the week's strangest headlines. They react to Jeff Daniels' painfully sincere protest song inspired by the “No Kings” rally, then break down the bizarre story of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of ending the life of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson after a violent encounter in Thailand led to a spiral of rage over medical costs. From there, they cover a brazen daylight jewel heist at the Louvre, wonder how anyone fences stolen crown jewels in Detroit, and question TMZ's claim that Trump might commute Diddy's sentence. Later, they talk A24's new Friday the 13th prequel, the strange world of tribute bands, and a fan's oddly touching moment with a Def Leppard drumstick. The episode wraps with Jim Carrey's rumored Jetsons reboot and what a modern Spacely Sprockets might look like today. Today's guests on "Normal World" are Derek Richards and Kevin Kramis.
