BENNETT YELLIN Born and raised in Los Angeles, Bennett received his B.A. in fiction from U.C.L.A. Still not ready to enter the real world, he enrolled at UMass in Amherst for an M.F.A. in fiction. It was there — on the first day of school — that he met and befriended Peter Farrelly. On a lark, they tried writing a comedy together and this spec script ultimately got into the hands of Eddie Murphy and the Zucker Brothers, creators of Airplane and The Naked Gun. Both Murphy and the Zuckers asked the duo to write movies for them, and their career was off and running. Yellin wrote exclusively with Peter for years until they asked his brother Bobby to join them. The three went on to write a number of unproduced features together until they created Dumb and Dumber in 1994 and reunited in 2014 to co-write the official sequel chronicling the further idiotic adventures of Harry and Lloyd, Dumb and Dumber To. In 2007, the Farrelly Brothers branched out on their own and Yellin partnered with James Robert Johnson to create a professional writing duo that has endured for sixteen years. Among the plethora of projects they've tackled during their career — some produced, others not — the two have co-written Let's Scare Jessica to Death for Paramount Pictures, the Fox situation comedy Unhitched, the direct-to-DVD thriller Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, Paramount Pictures' Hotel For Dogs 2, the Anchor Bay action-thriller In the Blood with Gina Carano, the 20th Century Fox family film, Santa's Little Helper, and the Warner Brothers re-boot of the Police Academy series, Police Academy: Takin' it to the Streets. More recently, Yellin and Johnston have co-written a live action family stage show adaptation of the hugely popular Angry Birds IP, and the two are currently at work creating an original pilot for a new animated show.Bennett's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bennett.yellinPhoto: Copyright Wilkinson/2023Opening and closing music courtesy the very talented Zakhar Valaha via Pixabay. To contact Wilkinson- email him at BecomingWilkinson@gmail.com

We discuss and review the 2014 film Dumb and Dumber To.
Stevie Martin and Lawrence Davis are two very well-established makeup and hair designers, having traversed the worlds of film and television with equal success and yes, respect. Martin made her start in makeup designing when she started doing makeup for magazines before building her way to TV and film. She was one of the key makeup artists on projects such as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, then returning for Mockingjay – Part 2, The Nice Guys and Sleepless, where she grew a reputation of her minimalist style and using no prosthetics. Davis comes from a very ranged background of work, having even won an Emmy for his work on Hairspray Live! He went on to being one of the key hairstylists for daytime and primetime TV shows and specials like the Grammys, the Academy Awards, American Idol. From this he went onto movies and became a key hairstylist for projects such as In Time, Flight and Dumb and Dumber To. Through all of this he started working frequently with Jennifer Hudson, which is how he landed the role of Hair Designer Head for Respect. We were curious how they both went about the daunting task of transforming Jennifer Hudson and Marlon Wayans into their respective roles as Aretha Franklin and Ted White, especially when the filmmakers asked for no prosthetics. Benji Bury had a sit-down discussion with them about how they climbed this high mountain. Respect is currently available to rent or buy wherever you stream movies.

This is the part of the episode description where I write some filler sentences so that the film isn't spoiled for everyone. Blah blah blah, yadda yadda. It's a movie review show, so you know we will talk about the actors, director, production, hell-- we might even talk about our impressions of the film. Now that I feel I have hidden the title behind the ellipses... wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world? WE ARE DOING DUMB AND DUMBER! We also discuss the prequel, Dumb and Dumberer, and sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. We also briefly acknowledge the animated TV show adaptation. The film stars Jim Carrey, during a banner year. In 1994, he had Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber come out. That success also greatly impacted the filming and budget of this film. Carrey was insistent on having Jeff Daniels (Blood Work, Newsroom) be his costar. We talk about his acting method and how he got his hair to be almost as crazy as his performance. How does this film compare to other works by Peter and Bobby Farrelly? Well, don't worry- we'll tell ya! We also pair this film with a horror movie, to stay true to form for the mission statement of the show... whatever the hell that means. Be sure to stay tuned until the end of the episode to hear Grim Earth's song, Haunted. grimearth.bandcamp.com If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Bill welcomes actress and author Tembi Locke to the show. Tembi is passionate about two things: the power of storytelling as a tool to inspire meaningful connection, and savoring the flavors, food and kitchen wisdom from her favorite place in the world, Sicily. An accomplished actor with over sixty television and film performances to her credit, including The Magicians, NCIS: LA, Bones, Eureka, Dumb and Dumber To, Friends, and Proven Innocent, she is also the author of the new memoir, FROM SCRATCH: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home. FROM SCRATCH is the story of losing her beloved chef husband to a rare cancer and the transformative path she embarked on to heal her heart and rebuild her life. Reviewers have called the book “lyrical,” “utterly incandescent” and “shimmering with hope and inspiration,” and New York Times bestselling author Claire Bidwell Smith says, “you will be forever changed for having turned these pages.” Don't miss it!

This week on the show, we're back at the movies! We decided to finally review a movie we had scheduled before Preacher came back into our lives: Blade Runner 2049. It was generally agreed that while the movie is visually stunning and well acted, it's far too long. In part 2, we talked about best and worst movie sequels. It was a varied discussion from amazing sequels as good or better than their predecessors such as Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back...to the likes of Airplane 2 and Dumb and Dumber To, which are both shite. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media channels for next episode's movie as well as the next question of the week. On this "B-Side" episode, spoilers are right out of the gate as Marco and Karwin tackle Stranger Things Season 2 (don't worry, they have good things to say)! They especially cover the controversial episode of this new season! Karwin has a mini-meltdown over his speculations for season 3! They ask the question of "have we hit the high mark for Amblin-esque/80's homages?" Topics also include: the news of the Ace Ventura sequel/reboot (let's all be honest its a reboot), "Carrey-less" sequels of the past, and defending "Dumb and Dumber To.'' They go over concerns for this current season of CW's The Flash, and a tease for next week.
Dennis welcomes screenwriter Bennett Yellin ("Dumb & Dumber") to his living room to discuss Bennett's many adventures in the screen trade, from meeting his frequent collaborator Peter Farrelly in college, getting their first script into the red hot hands of Eddie Murphy, the process when writing with the Farrelly brothers, bringing the gang back together for "Dumb and Dumber To," getting inspiration from "The Andy Griffith Show" and typing while driving. He also talks about the relationship and addiction that nearly did him in, getting sober, being super hungover in "The Donny and Marie" studios in Utah and getting a do-ever. Other topics include: fostering resilience, the writer he wrote a fan letter to and the review his mother keeps on her refrigerator.
Luke takes the driving seat this week to explain what made DUMB & DUMBER TO falter where its predecessor triumphed. Royalty Free Music from Bensound. Logo design by the Proxy Guy.

Ryan and Matt "Ryan please stop nicknaming me in the podcast descriptions" Amberg are back and talking about The Superbowl, Comedy Bang Bang live, Dumb and Dumber To, Bridge of Spies, Foxcatcher, and Mazerunner 1 and 2 before it's on to time spent with Xcom 2, Churchill Solitaire, Tales from the Borderlands Episode 4, Tetris Ultimate[ly futile], Star Wars Battlefront as Hitplay, LEGO Dimensions' Portal pack, Batman Arkham Knight's rough stuff, and good ol' Destiny. Honestly that should have been enough, but they go on unsolicited about Destiny's February update, the return of Overwatch and pretending to understand MOBAs, Street Fighter 5's cinematic trailer, The Division's division, Hitman's new trailer and beta, Doom's date, Mirror's Edge's Catalyst's trailer's and's beta's, H1Z1's split and release, Titanfall 2's campaign (it exists!), and Red Dead's brief reappearance on Xbox One.

Unseen FootageEpisode 7 - Dumb and Dumber, Dumb and Dumber ToApologies for the delay! We've been busy, and some new things are happening with Unseen Footage in the New Year, so we're getting ready for that! In any case, this deluxe episode is here for your enjoyment. We discuss Dumb and Dumber, a favorite among 90s kids, and its sequel, that got released just last month, to not-surprisingly lackluster reviews. Everyone knew it was going to be bad, so let's focus on the good: Jim Carrey's amazing acting ability, Jeff Daniels' making the most of it, some of the most beloved bits and sight gags that stand the test of time, and unintentionally bad characterization that leads to some awesome moments. For the Christmas season, enjoy Lloyd Christmas, and his friend Harry, as they try to make it through two movies alive. Beware the Sea Bass!Download the episode here!

If you doubted it was Oscar season, we have two words for you: "Dumb and Dumber To." Also out this week: "Beyond the Lights," "The Theory of Everything," and "Foxcatcher." For the stay-on-the couch crowd, we also have this week's Sweatpants pick: "High Maintenance." There's also listener mail that takes us down memory lane. And, as usual, there's trivia!
Dumb and Dumber was one of Jim Carrey's and Jeff Daniel's most successful films, so it was a no-brainer there would be sequel and "Dumb and Dumber To" is set to hit theatres across the nation on November 14. Tonight, I'll chat with co-star Steve Tom about his experience on set, as well as how the premiere went last night. Join me for RHeart's Movie NIght!
