Everyone knows Captain Hook got swallowed by the crocodile at the end of Peter Pan. But what this movie presupposes is…maybe he didn't? Let us go back to a time when the coolest thing a kid could have was a clubhouse that looked like a skatepark…when the worst thing a dad could do was own a cell phone…and when the craziest thing a filmmaker could do was agree to make a movie that started off as a child's drawing. Lin-Manuel Miranda - most famous for starring as Captain Hook in his sixth grade production of Peter Pan - joins us on a trip to Neverland as we unpack Spielberg's 1991 fantasia Hook. We sprang forward last week and are celebrating our hour lost with three Three for Thursdays. We named our celebration, too. Threes for Thursday. If you, like Jay, are watching the “Primus Interstellar Drum Derby” series on YouTube, then the last episode you saw was Mike Stone's audition. Prior to the episode, Mr. Stone had recently recorded a song and an album with Secret Chiefs 3. Les Claypool was quite impressed by this fact. You may have wondered, who is Secret Chiefs 3? Jay did, too, and he looked into it and shares what he found.Songs:Secret Chiefs 3 - “The Four (Great Ashra Ki Sun)”Secret Chiefs 3/Traditionalists - “What's Wrong With Cytherea”Secret Chiefs 3 - “Chitzonuyut” (John Zorn)We lost the massively influential vibraphonist, composer, and producer, Roy Ayers, this past week. The “Godfather of Neo Soul” began in bebop and migrated to the jazz funk scene in the early 1970s. His music has been sample hundreds of times over the past 4 decades, most often by rappers. Nick presents some of his signature tracks.Songs:Roy Ayers - “Sound and Sense”Roy Ayers Ubiquity - “Everybody Loves the Sunshine”Roy Ayers Ubiquity - “We Live in Brooklyn, Baby”Kendrick Lamar - “Good Kid” (first 30 sec)As demonstrated thus far, we often have themes when presenting a Three For Thursday. This is often just to demonstrate that we've invested slightly more effort than the segment initially called for. Greg takes it to the next level this week by offering a sub-genre of the segment. “Captain Hook” is a Three For Thursday featuring songs with impeccable hooks. Greg closes us out this week with Part 1 of “Captain Hook.”.Songs:Bad Bad Not Good - “Last Laugh”Aphex Twin - “Flim”Fontaines DC - “Here's the Thing”

This was a fine Monday crossword by Jack Scherban, and we're not just saying that because it referenced our phonetically favorite pirate, 60A, Captain Hook's right-hand man, SMEE, nor our favorite dessert, 37D, Black-and-white dessert that's sliced, OREOPIE. Rather, it was the theme, which brought back nostalgic memories (as well as a short-lived and, come to think of it, largely imaginary coughing spell

There you are, listener! This week, we eat hot dogs and colorful cupcakes before discussing Hook (1991). Captain Hook and Smee steal the show and Peter's children. This would be a great movie about the gay power couple named after the fabulous captain. Alas, it's loosely about Peter's need to become a better father. The film has some moments of endearment mixed in with nonconsensual kisses and strange generational love. Watch this film as an adult and you start to see behind the creepy curtain but with a child's eyes, it's bangerang. RIP Rufio.

A bean sharp scalpel is applied to a literary classic this week as Robin from Weymouth suggests the topic of Peter Pan. Could we have had Darth Vader without Tinkerbell? "What would the world be like without Captain Hook?" Alan and Rob return after five years in deep space a brief hiatus to talk all about the beloved (depending on what age you are!) holiday classic “Hook” about an older Peter Pan, played by the late great Robin Williams. The lads discuss Williams' legendary real-life friendship with Christopher Reeve and the film's many similarities with the legend of Superman. Has the film aged well? Why does Steven Spielberg not care for it? How come Bob Hoskins is so awesome? PLUS! A bumper catch-up discussion on all the big DC comics and TV shows that have been in the ether while we've been away! We discuss The Penguin, the excellent prose novel “Batman Resurrection” and Rob gives his thoughts on the much talked-about finale of “Superman & Lois”! All this plus plenty of comic book discussion! We talked about the economic impact of Prohibition, especially in Wisconsin, if she ever thinks her body count gets too high, and about why she handled mental illness the way she did in the book. Patrons hear about if she's passed on her love of hunting to her kids. Specters in the Glass House by Jaime Jo WrightAn ominous butterfly house. A sinister legacy. An untraceable killer. In 1921, Marian Arnold, the heiress to a brewing baron's empire, seeks solace in the glass butterfly house on her family's Wisconsin estate as Prohibition and the deaths of her parents cast a long shadow over her shrinking world. When Marian's sanctuary is invaded by nightmarish visions, she grapples with the line between hallucinations of things to come and malevolent forces at play in the present. With dead butterflies as the killer's ominous signature, murders unfold at a steady pace. Marian, fearful she might be next, enlists the help of her childhood friend Felix, a war veteran with his own haunted past.In the present day, researcher Remy Shaw becomes entangled in an elderly biographer's quest to uncover the truth behind Marian Arnold's mysterious life and the unsolved murders linked to an infamous serial killer. Joined by Marian's great-great-grandson, can Remy expose the evil that lurks beneath broken wings? Two mischievous urchins adorn their family, who keep their mother on her toes - providing an exhilarating amount chaos."If I were to summarize my life in three words, my instinct is to say: "I love coffee", and leave it at that. God has blessed me, even in severe trials, such as the loss of three of my babies. He has never failed, never given up, never gone easy on me, and always disciplined me with a loving hand. (and trust me, when you have my personality which pushes boundaries and considers rules to be negotiable, you need discipline).I married my husband in 2000. He wasn't exactly Prince Charming when I met him, so I aptly nicknamed him Cap'n Hook after he pirated off with my heart and has yet to give it back. J.M. Barrie, the fascinating Scottish writer, gave us Peter Pan - the boy who never grows up, and his notorious pirate nemesis: Captain Hook. But where did this iconic rivalry come from, and how did Barrie's fascination with both youth and pirates shape this timeless story? Barrie's life, marked by personal tragedy and complex relationships, set the stage for a world where innocence meets adventure on the high seas. The figure of Captain Hook looms large over Peter Pan. Modelled partly on the infamous privateer Christopher Newport, who ruled Caribbean waters with a missing arm, Hook embodies the darker side of Neverland. Inspired by his relationship with the Llewelyn Davies family, Barrie crafted Peter Pan as a tribute to these young boys who captured his heart. Yet, their lives would be marked by profound loss, shadowing the whimsy of the Lost Boys with tragedy. Join William and Anita as they dive into the origins of Barrie's Peter Pan and the history behind Neverland's fictional pirates. It's bangarang, Dear Listeners, as we leave Neverland with Patty Griffin's “Peter Pan,” brought by whole human woman and this episode's guest Kim Caldwell. A wistful but firm examination of lovingly leaving what we've outgrown, the discussion covers the art that gives us clear directions in life, the hard truth that believing isn't enough to make something real, and the feeling of deeply comforting melancholy. Also, we all agree that Peter Pan does not have an email address but Captain Hook does have an Only Fans.

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to set sail on a journey around the Rivers of America aboard Disneyland's Sailing Ship Columbia on this episode of Attraction Checklist! Attraction audio recorded on September 30, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Frontierland in Disneyland to ride Sailing Ship Columbia. The Disneyland website describes this attraction saying: Sail into the wilderness aboard a full-scale replica of a majestic ship from the 18th century. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as being a Slow Water Ride that can get Loud. Before we embark on our journey, here are five fast facts about the Sailing Ship Columbia. 1. The Sailing Ship Columbia opened at Disneyland park on June 14, 1958. 2. The story goes that in the early days of Disneyland, Walt Disney wanted more traffic on the Rivers of America. He asked Joe Fowler to come up with an idea for a new ship and, after research, Fowler suggested the Columbia Rediviva - The first American vessel to circumnavigate the globe. 3. The original designs for the ship were sketched out on a napkin by Ray Wallace. The masts, rigging, spars and sails of the Columbia were constructed at Todd Shipyards, Los Angeles Division, San Pedro, CA 4. The Columbia can hold up to 300 guests on each 12 minute trip around Tom Sawyer's Island. 5. The Columbia has a starring role in the nighttime spectacular Fantastic! Serving as Captain Hook's ship, the Jolly Roger, in the original and current incarnations of the show and as The Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean in the version that ran from 2017 to 2023. Let's set sail on the Sailing Ship Columbia. John B. deHaas is joining me again today and after we ride, we'll give you our thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphone put them on now as we ride Sailing Ship Columbia at Disneyland! Wake Up! Isaiah 51:17–52:12 Teacher: Jon Morales, Lead Pastor at Oak Pointe Church In the movie “Hook”, Robin Williams plays the grown-up Peter Pan. Captain Hook, seeking revenge, kidnaps Peter's two children and holds them hostage. Peter returns to Neverland to save the captives, but in one crucial scene, all hope is seemingly lost. His children literally hang in the balance as they watch their dad try to save them to no avail. The children are horrified, and Captain Hook is elated. Dear Christian, you HAVE been saved and set free; God saved His children from captivity long ago, and He has saved His children once and for all through Christ. Tomorrow morning we will hear God's call to Israel (and you) to rise up and rejoice, salvation is at hand!

SERIES 2 EPISODE 127: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: I have argued for NINE YEARS that it is essential for the media to actually CALL the crazy shit Trump says “crazy shit” all the time. I have argued for FIVE YEARS that Joe Biden should CALL the crazy shit Trump says “crazy shit.” And it's like I've been talking to the wind. And then, yesterday afternoon, from the White House lawn, CNN's senior correspondent there quoted sources saying the President has directed his senior campaign staff to focus on Trump's inflammatory comments, especially “THE CRAZY SHIT TRUMP SAYS IN PUBLIC.” No bleeping, no euphemisms, she said it – deliberately. Suddenly I feel like I'm not alone! This is the easiest way to beat Trump is to quote Trump and the easiest way to break through the numb-to-it-all white noise permitting Trump to survive as a public figure is to get angry about it, angry enough for… the CNN White House correspondent to say “the crazy shit that Trump says.” Live. From the White House lawn. At mid-day. Today, “The crazy shit that Trump says.” Tomorrow… the F-word! I want CNN to talk like that, I want Biden surrogates to talk like that, I want the presidentto go and talk like that. I want to hear the phrase “the crazy shit that Trump says” said by Joe Biden in the State of the Union, right after “Thank you Mr. Speaker.” I want it to have to be broadcast 100 times that night on 100 different channels and I want to see the right wing pundits stage phony strokes and umbrage at his locker room talk because he says it and I want it played again and again and again because IT'S… THE… TRUTH! Meanwhile, in what should shock no one: The supposed FBI whistleblower in the Hunter Biden case – the man who is at the center of the James Comer/Jim Jordan/Chuck Grassley/Donald Trump smear job against him and the president? – the one they ARRESTED last week for lying TO the FBI? Alexander Smirnov? He has now told investigators Quote: “that officials associated with Russian intelligence were involved in passing” the fabrications about Hunter Biden. Dramatic, yes. Two caveats: a) he WAS arrested for lying and b) that phrase “officials associated with Russian intelligence” now applies to about 90 percent of the Republican party. B-Block (17:29) IN SPORTS: Congratulations, Nashville and Salt Lake City. You're getting major league baseball expansion teams. Unfortunately you won't be getting them any earlier than 2032, according to ESPN. And the actor who played one of the legendary figures in the legendary Paul Newman hockey film “Slap Shot” has died. I'll say goodbye to Paul D'Amico, so fierce-looking as “Captain Hook” that they modeled the comic book character Wolverine after him. (22:52) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: A Republican Florida state legislator has introduced a bill that experts believe will put Florida right-wing media out of business (thank God these people are that stupid); Senator Mike Lee's petition to get them to actually have an impeachment trial of Secretary Mayorkas earns only thirteen signatures; and Elon Musk's crapshack website bans and then suddenly unbans Alexei Navalny's widow. Well, Elmo's name does constitute half of the word “Muscovite,” doesn't it? C-Block (28:35) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Before Black History Month ends, let's take the opportunity to tell the true story of the man who broke the color line in major league baseball. He was NOT Jackie Robinson. He was not even Fleet Walker. His name was William Edward White, he played in the National League in 1879, and for whether he couldn't acknowledge his accomplishment or simply chose not to, he never did.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Old time radio fans will recognize some of their favorite performers' voices popping up in classic Disney films, and today we'll hear three of those stars in radio mysteries. Before she was Cruella de Vil in One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Betty Lou Gerson was a faded movie star who plans to marry into money in "The Girl Next Door" from The Whistler (originally aired on CBS on August 20, 1947). And years before he menaced Peter Pan as Captain Hook, Hans Conried played Sam Spade's client - a butler whose employers have a house full of secrets - in "The Bouncing Betty Caper" (an AFRS rebroadcast from December 12, 1948). Finally, you can still hear Paul Frees as the "Ghost Host" of the Haunted Mansion, and we'll also enjoy his performance as an eccentric poet in "The Cloak of Kamehameha" from The Adventures of Philip Marlowe (originally aired on CBS on April 23, 1949).
This week's episode is an original audio drama. In previous episodes, I've interviewed Captain Hook, vampires, colonists on the moon, and H.P. Lovecraft's brain in a jar -- or at least actors playing those characters. Now I've expanded my roster of fictional interviews to include iconic characters from Christmas tales. In this 21st century holiday tale, I am visited by supernatural entities who warn me that humanity is in danger because we no longer believe they're real. Featuring performances from Torian Brackett, Alexandra Reed and Bill Lobley. Dan is dressed as Captain Hook but looks like at least 10 other celebrities with mustaches, and Tony is struggling with a deadmau5 head cutting off his vision. We try to discuss the Winter Meetings with David Samson, but his audio continues to act the way it has the last several weeks, and we guarantee this one is NOT a bit. Then, Dick Fitts, Tim Boyle, and Jaelen Phillips on Hard Knocks. Plus, we listen to the Useless Sound Montage and discuss business stealing the soul of good things in sports.
