Send us Fan MailOn this 120th episode of the Triple FFF we're going to chip away at the rock solid box office pairing of Author Andy Weir and screenwriter Drew Goddard as we discuss their two sci fi smash hits, 2015's The Martian  directed by Ridley Scott and starringMatt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Michael Peña, Sean Bean, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, MacKenzie Davis, Donald Glover, and Jeff Daniels along with 2026's Project Hail Mary directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Millerstarring Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller and James Ortiz as the lovable and wacky alien Rocky. Returning to the show to discuss these crowd-pleasing and visually spectacular space epics is none other than Dr. David Johnson, DMD, whom I've called upon as a secret weapon in the last three films we've discussed because they were squarely in his wheelhouse: dancing and strutting his stuff with Michael, putting on a tough fit with Prada 1 & 2 and now his biggest passion and strength, HARD SCIENCE.  Before we drift into deep space, the synopses: In the Martian, astronaut Mark Watney is impaled and presumed dead during a wicked Martian storm which causes his crew of astronaut/explorers  to launch an emergency evacuation. Alive, wounded and alone on Mars Watney must use science, engineering, and endurance to survive long enough for Earth to mount an impossible rescue mission. In Project Hail Mary, Ryland Grace, a lone astronaut suffering from memory loss, awakens aboard a spacecraft on a desperate deep-space mission and gradually discovers he is humanity's last hope against a cosmic extinction event. Along the way, he encounters an alien astronaut from another species sent on a similar mission to protect its own civilization. Can the two work together to save their respective planets? Are these films fabulous or fails? Find out!  Watch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/KqQbMzJx6wY

Johnny Mac recaps comedy news, led by Stephen Colbert returning to TV the night after The Late Show ended by guest-hosting the Monroe, Michigan public-access show Only in Monroe, featuring guests/cameos including Jack White, Byron Allen, Eminem, Steve Buscemi, and Jeff Daniels, plus local food bits; Colbert previously hosted in 2015. Paramount/CBS issued copyright takedown notices after uploads appeared online, then told Variety it was standard practice against unauthorized posts and waived further enforcement. The Late Show finale drew 6.74M viewers vs Letterman's 13.76M final and Colbert's 2015 premiere 6.55M; Mac says the finale and Colbert's run had little impact on him. The Times of London argues Tim Dillon represents an internet-era successor to late-night, citing younger audiences and cost/format challenges, plus comments about YouTube economics and an upcoming Ben Gleib YouTube show. Other items: Chelsea Handler backlash over calling Shane Gillis' roast joke “worse than rape,” Robbie Hoffman criticized for dismissive celiac comments, and sightings of Kevin Hart in Vegas, Adam Sandler in Vancouver filming Time Out, John Oliver in Baltimore, and Drew Carey attacking LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt. 00:18 Colbert Goes Public Access02:52 CBS Colbert Takedowns Explained03:58 Late Show Finale Ratings04:23 Host Reacts to Finale05:16 Tim Dillon as Successor06:09 Late Night vs YouTube07:03 Chelsea Handler Roast Backlash09:50 Robbie Hoffman Celiac Controversy11:09 Gossip Corner Celebrity Sightings Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/daily-comedy-news-with-johnny-mac-a-daily-briefing-on-comedians-and-the-comedy-industry--4522158/support.Daily Comedy News is the number one comedy news podcast, delivering daily coverage of standup comedy, late night television, comedy specials, tours, and the business of comedy.COMEDY SURVIVOR in the facebook group.Contact John at John@thesharkdeck dot com For Uninterrupted Listening, use the Apple Podcast App and click the banner that says Uninterrupted Listening.  $4.99/month John's Substack about media is free. This is the animal sanctuary mentioned in the February 10 episode.

In this edition of Trend Shapiro’s Fortnite Foray, Jack and Miles discuss Donald Trump’s disapproval rating reaching an all-time high of 58%, along with Trump skipping Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding. They also break down Starbucks’ latest advertising controversy, which echoes the company’s infamous 2002 “Collapse Into Cool” misstep, in which a poster promoting two new beverages drew criticism for imagery reminiscent of the September 11 attacks. The new campaign was tied to the release of a new oversized tumbler called The Tank, launched on May 18th and branded as “Tank Day.” The problem: May 18th is the anniversary of the Gwangju Democratic Uprising in South Korea, when the military-controlled government used tanks to suppress pro-democracy demonstrations. Next, they discuss the shooting outside the White House, which was covered by several media members who were filming at the time and the administration's use of the shooting as a justification for the White House ballroom. Next, in an effort to slow subscriber losses at The Daily Wire, Ben Shapiro streamed himself playing Fortnite for the first time. Finally, the day after the final episode of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert guest-hosted Only in Monroe, a public-access show from Monroe, Michigan, featuring guests Jack White, Jeff Daniels, and Steve Buscemi.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I wasn't surprised when Sasha Spielberg--an actor, visual artist, and musician who records as Buzzy Lee--told me that she once cried listening to the score to E.T., one of her father's most famous movies. I was surprised, however, when she told me that she also cried watching "The Real Housewives of Orange County." But that's why this convo with Spielberg is one of the funnest I've ever done. (And yes, funnest is a word.) As you'll hear, both events are tied to her creative process.I've interviewed many songwriters with careers in other artistic mediums (Jeff Daniels, Kevin Bacon, The Wolff Brothers, Jena Malone, among others), and I'm always interested in exploring how their processes overlap and influence each other. We go deep into that here. But we also talk about why Spielberg loves to write with a cheap old school Bic pen and why a quick, efficient shower is a boon to her songwriting process. Spielberg's latest album as Buzzy Lee is Shoulder to Shoulder.

The movie adaptation of Andy Weir's novel, “Project Hail Mary” is a big box office hit. However, the first movie adaptation of a Andy Weir novel, that was a big box office hit, was “The Martian” starring Matt Damon in 2015. That's what I'm retro reviewing this week. Damon plays astronaut/botanist Mark Watney, who's part of a NASA mission on Mars. His team has to suddenly evacuate Mars and Mark is killed, or so his crew thinks. Surprise! He's alive and the movie becomes all about the mission to save Mark. Is it worth finding out what happens next enough to watch this? Find out on this episode of Movies Merica Live! “The Martian” also stars Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Chiewetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, Sebastian Stan, Sean Bean, Aksel Hennie, Benedict Wong, Mackenzie Davis and Donald Glover. Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

We start by catching up with our guests on their history working together and their shared connection to the Milwaukee comedy scene. Moving on to the movie, we debate whether Jeff Daniels was the right choice for the role of Harry Dunne and revisit the film's most legendary moments, including the "pretty bird," the frozen tongue, and the infamous toilet scene. From there we chat about Jim Carrey's quick rise to stardom during the mid-90s and the philosophical speech that inspired ADL to "fail at something he loves" by pursuing comedy. We also touch on some of Jim Carrey's other movies, the nostalgia of VHS collections and the challenges ADL had of viewing media while growing up in Puerto Rico. All that and much, much more! Enjoy!

This week on Forgotten Cinema, the Mikes revisit "Arachnophobia", the horror comedy that proves sometimes the scariest monsters are the smallest ones.Mike Butler and Mike Field really enjoy this one; with Butler describing it best as spider "Jaws". The film builds tension around an invasion of deadly spiders while following Jeff Daniels as a small-town doctor who must stop them despite being deeply afraid of spiders himself. Daniels brings a relatable everyman quality to the role that helps ground the story, while John Goodman steals plenty of scenes as the eccentric exterminator brought in to deal with the growing infestation. The movie is also a showcase for great character actors. Instead of relying on huge personalities or scene stealing performances, the film fills its world with memorable supporting characters who feel like real people and deliver plenty of great lines along the way.Balancing laughs and thrills without becoming overly bombastic, "Arachnophobia" keeps things relatively grounded while still delivering plenty of creepy moments. It is a smart, fun creature feature that proves you do not need giant monsters to make an audience squirm. What your favorite films in this genre? Let us know in the comments!

Aspiring screenwriter Max Frye wrote a spec script in film school about a straitlaced yuppie's "best worst night ever," which his agent later told him would be perfect for either Martin Scorsese or Jonathan Demme to direct. Since Scorsese was busy on another "yuppie's best worst night ever" movie, After Hours, Demme ended up getting the nod. Demme cast Jeff Daniels as the yuppie Charlie Driggs, with Melanie Griffith as the proto-Manic Pixie Dream Girl Lulu, who sweeps him up for a weekend that starts with sex and ends in terror at the hands of her jealous ex, played by Ray Liotta. This sex-comedy/thriller mashup boasts a fantastic soundtrack and character actor cameos galore, but is the fun worth the hangover?
