CaveofswordS trio Sunyatta McDermitt, Eric Armbruster and KVN write and record dense, brooding synth-heavy pop music in their South St. Louis apartment studio. They play live too, but they had extra time not playing live last year when they released a perfectly titled album Good Music To Feel Bad To. They supplied me with a whopping forty stem files for the song “Falling” and as I learned from KVN, songs on their last album saw upwards of 70 tracks per song.
St. Louis band CaveofSwords promises that its new album is quote “Good Music to Feel Bad to.” That’s a great title, and the songs deliver. Two of its members join host Sarah Fenske to discuss the band’s inspiration and perspiration. In the words of the band, these are “Songs to quote wallow and grieve with your friends, but also dance to." All proceeds from digital sales of "Good Music to Feel Bad to" for the summer of 2020 will go to Arch City Defenders & Action STL.
St. Louis trio CaveofswordS address the anxiety of contemporary American life by looking straight at it.

We've been running a little behind here at PP central, what with our electioneering activities, booking headaches, influenza quarantine, and generally running on pterodactyl time (you thought punk time was bad). So we're going to make it up to you starting now with a full week of snacktimes! First up is probably our most significant piece of outstanding business- a special hour long mix of performances recorded at the UNDERCURRENT grand finale show on January 30, 2015 at the Schlafly Tap Room (the release party for the twelfth and final cassette in the series). If you'll recall, UNDERCURRENT was the critically acclaimed concert & mixtape collaborative series that was curated by Wrong Division and edited/arranged by Paradoxal Pterodactyl, with visuals by Chizmo.tv and pals, beer by Schlafly, and killer performances by just about a million of STL's finest acts across multiple genres. Actually that description barely begins to cover the UNDERCURRENT experience or all the work that went into it. This very special mix was completed the very next day after the final show, and then somehow got lost before we could post it, for over a year until Dingus found it hiding on an SD card a couple weeks ago. So here it is, the long awaited party re-cap featuring the debut performances of SKIN TAGS and HARDBODY, encore victory lap performances by CAVEOFSWORDS and TRAUMA HARNESS, and (wow you guys) the super slippery GHOST ICE! Thanks again to everybody who made this shit possible, that came out and enjoyed themselves (and talked nonsense into the mic for me), and especially to everyone who tried to take a little piece of that zeitgeist and run with it and make something new... it feels like forever ago since these shows, but we can still feel the echoes in the scene today, more than a year later. I guess what I'm trying to say is GO TEAM. GOOD GAME.
Tonight is the very last Undercurrent event at the Schlfafly Tap Room, and the release of the last FREE cassette mixtape. If you've missed out on everything so far, or are a completist, or just love us all that much, there will also be a limited edition box set available for purchase (proceeds go to Stephen Houldsworth's Ferguson leadership fund), which includes all 12 tapes, a specially made box with two different covers to hold them all, and a REALLY groovy DVD from chizmo.tv capturing some of his favorite perfomances from the whole series paired with video of the live improvised video projections he was running with them. A very exciting set, only 10 available, $75 each. And as always, great beer, great food, and great tunes. Tonight we have encore performances by Trauma Harness and CaveofSwordS, two exciting new bands Hardbody (members of Braining and Stonechat) and Skin Tags (members of Little Big Bangs and Spelling Bee), and the ever amazing GHOST ICE. So, tonight's the last show, and this is the Side C for the last mixtape, featuring 18andCounting, Animal Teeth, The Conformists (totally taking the piss, I might add), Ben Hanna, and Skarekrau Radio. It's an interesting mix and an appropriate send-off for the Undercurrent series, but don't think the fun is over yet. There is still lots of material we'll be dropping for a while longer- we'll have the missing Side C for #7 eventually (was a problem with one of the recordings, it's fixable but haven't had the time just yet), several additional selections to be released as individual bonus tracks, maybe some bootleg audio from tonight, and then some of the remaining clips may just find their way into episodes of Paradoxal Pterodactyl, so please do stick around for all the fun to be found in this feed. It's been a fun journey together thus far, right?Undercurrent #12 performances recorded 12/19/2014 at Schlafly Tap Room by Charlie Nehr. Additional recording/editing/arranging by David Bell.
