Nissan's small pickup might be one of the brand's most interesting machines that doesn't carry the GT-R badge. Once dubbed Hardbody, the small Nissan pickup has duked it out with giants in the small-to-midsize truck world for almost half a century. The latest iteration joined the Frontier's history books in 2022 as the D41-generation pickup. This truck replaced the long-running-if-not-old D22-generation rig, which ran from 2007 to 2021. This new truck significantly updated the Frontier, but it kept the 3.8-liter V6 mill that joined the truck in 2020. This 3.8-liter V6 is good for 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. That power travels through a nine-speed automatic before hitting the rear axle, or the four-wheel-drive system. For '25, Nissan updated the interior with a larger infotainment screen, increased towing capacity, and slightly revised styling. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the 2025 Nissan Frontier and puts it through its paces. Murphy takes you on a guided tour of the Frontier and highlights some of his favorite features and changes. Later, Murphy takes you along for a live drive review. Joining these segments, Murphy chats with host Wesley Wren about the 2025 Nissan Frontier, the competition, and the world of midsize trucks. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2025 Nissan Frontier special.

Craig Zahler's Bone Tomahawk from 2015. They start the show by giving some general information about the movie, and then they talk about who they would recast in the movie if it were made today. It's then time to read the listener opinions from Instagram and Facebook. Then Phillip and Chip walk through the movie while Phillip sprinkles in some facts throughout. They both rate the movie, and have a wrap up discussion. Phillip then reads his Phil's Film Favorite of the Week; Hands on a Hardbody (1997). It was a great conversation.

Now double it again! We call that the "Shatto Effect."   From belting out iconic roles in Les Misérables as the valiant Jean Valjean to rocking the stage in The Civil War and Hands on a Hardbody, Bart's journey through the world of theater is nothing short of legendary. And if you thought that was impressive, wait until you hear about his time with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, where he brought down the house with his electrifying performances.   Whether he's lighting up a stage or warming up a podcast, Bart Shatto is a man of many talents, all wrapped up in a package of humor, heart, and a dash of that Broadway magic. The HBS hosts discuss a real human drama.Note to listeners: if you haven't already, you may want to watch “Hands on a Hardbody: The Documentary” (link to complete film on YouTube here) before listening!"Hands on a Hardbody: The Documentary" tells the story of an annual competition held from 1992 to 2005 in Longview, Texas, in which a local Nissan dealership selected 24 contestants by lottery for a chance to win a tantalizing symbol of freedom and mobility in many rural areas: a brand-new hardbody truck. All the contestants had to do to win it was to show up at 5am in the sweltering Texas summer heat, place a hand on the truck, and wait until theirs was the last hand left. They got a 5-minute break every hour and a 15-minute break every six hours, but the rest of the time they couldn't lean, they couldn't sleep, they couldn't use the bathroom, and most importantly they couldn't take their hand off the hardbody. They could only wrestle with the relentless passage of time… and all of the boredom, exhaustion, physical pain, and quite often delirium it brought with it. So they waited. And waited. And waited…sometimes more than 80 straight hours before there was only one hand left. That's more three entire days and nights. As the clock ticks relentlessly on and we learn more about each contestant's hunger for a chance at prosperity, what seemed like an absurd spectacle of willpower and perseverance becomes a deeper exploration of the human condition—the limits of mind and body, amity and enmity, suffering and compassion, ambition and ability— all as these 24 contestants confront the bittersweet realities of the American dream in the hopes of escaping the suffocating shackles of their circumstances. In the words of Benny Perkins, former winner of a hardbody, return contestant in the documentary “Hands on a Hardbody,” and arguably one of the most underrated philosophers of the 20th Century: “It's a real human drama.”Full episode notes available at this link:https://hotelbarpodcast.com/podcast/episode-106-hbs-goes-to-the-movies-hands-on-a-hardbody-the-documentary-1997 -------------------If you enjoy Hotel Bar Sessions podcast, please be sure to subscribe and submit a rating/review!Follow us on Twitter @hotelbarpodcast, on Facebook, and subscribe to our YouTube channel!

Broadway star Jay Armstrong Johnson (On the Town, The Phantom of the Opera) joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss acts of kindness on Broadway, his Hocus Pocus-inspired benefit concert I Put A Spell on You and more! Over the course of his 5 Broadway shows, Jay Armstrong Johnson has cemented himself as a triple threat. From his debut in Hair, which he shares a kind story about during our chat, to his more recent turn as Raoul in Phantom of the Opera's 30th anniversary year, Jay is always a standout. Following Phantom, Jay originated the role of Banko in Roundabout Theatre Company's world premiere show Scotland, PA. Carol Jackson is a Twin Cities theater fan and blogger, and she's looking forward to seeing the new show this weekend from Minneapolis Musical Theatre. The theater specializes in staging lesser-known musicals, sometimes in site-specific venues. Their new show, “Hands on a Hardbody,” about an endurance competition to win a new truck, is set in a car dealership. The musical, which was briefly on Broadway in 2013, is based on a 1997 documentary about 10 Texans all vying for a new pickup truck. The rules were simple: Keep your hand on the truck; last person standing wins. “Hands on a Hardbody” opens Friday and runs through May 8 at Luther Cadillac in Roseville. The theater offers a range of ticket and pricing options in this non-traditional venue, from regular seats to Bring-Your-Own chair to — somewhat immersive — standing room only. The show is not recommended for children under 10 due to mature themes.
