Healing From Emotional Wounds Healing Negative Emotions In this extended episode, Paul Clough tackles the persistent negative emotions that many of us struggle with - those emotional wounds from our past that seem to linger despite our best efforts to move on. Episode Highlights Paul introduces a gentle process for resolving emotional wounds that doesn't involve regression therapy Important safety note: For deep trauma or abuse issues, Paul strongly recommends working with a professional therapist Why negative emotions persist: Our unconscious mind is still running old protection programs from our younger self The goal: Teaching our unconscious mind that we have more resources and wisdom now than we did back then The Process Identify what resources you needed back then that you have now Confidence, calmness, curiosity, love, or simply knowing "this too shall pass" Connect with memories when you've felt these positive emotions The Inner Child Healing Exercise Identify when you first felt this negative emotion (often before age 10) Visualize your younger self on a stage in front of you Send the specific resources, emotions, and healing they needed Integrate your younger self with your current self, accessing all your wisdom and resources Additional Support If you're still experiencing negative emotions after trying this process, Paul suggests: Working with a therapist skilled in NLP, timeline therapy, and hypnosis Asking yourself: "What am I doing that I could stop?" or "What am I not doing that I could start?" Reaching out directly to Paul at feedback@personaldevelopmentunplugged.com Remember, even subtle shifts can create profound change. Double Tap Episode 403 This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: Brownells, Gideon Optics, Blue Alpha, Medical Gear Outfitters, Mitchell Defense, and Matador Arms Welcome to Double Tap, episode 403! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Double Tap- Need more questions. WLS- Need more reviews. - Dear WLS My dad hit my mom so I the family dog and now I have a hard time talking to women S. - Do you guys have a go to cleaning kit? Or do you just buy pieces and make your own kit? What are those pieces? I've bought several kits but they never seem to be ideal for cleaning any particular gun. Ice Wallocum - Could 50 clones of Savage defeat Nick, Jeremy, Shawn, and Aaron? The only weapons available to the guys are a frying pan, a set of brass knuckles, a fire extinguisher and a large flat-head screwdriver. Each clone is butt-ass naked. Try to not get a boner. No notes. Jakey Poo - I'm getting the itch... not like yours, Aaron. I need to add something to my gun collection. My current selection is as follows. A 223 AR A 223 AK A semi auto 12 gauge (yes Turkish, shut up) A 9mm AK A 45 1911 A full size 9mm canik. A 9mm p365 xmacro. An m&p 22 handgun. A 22 heritage rough rider. So, where should I start looking and or saving next? I like the idea of a 45 pcc. I like the idea of a lever action. I like the idea of some other 22 to have for when my boys get old enough. I just don't know what to do. And don't say tons of ammo for all those things... that's already on the list. Thank you for all the feelings you give me every week, my fellow homeo sectionals. Alex W - Hi. Do you guys have slings on your home defense rifles? I had mine out last night due to sketchy shit going on outside my home and noticed the sling was all twisted up and wrapped around the stock. I think it would have still functioned fine but throwing the sling on might have been hard in a tense situation. How do you stow your slings to prevent that issue? Thanks. No notes. Savage Looks Like A Nutsack - I was at my local Scheels, and overheard a conversation about second focal plane scopes. The sales associate told the guy next to me that in a sfp scope, only the subtensions will be off if you use magnification. He explained that your center aimpoint on the scope will always be dead on no matter what, as long as the distance is ranged correctly. What's the associate right? I thought in all sfp scopes, your zero would be off on everything if you used the magnification. It doesn't make sense that the center point of the scope would always be correct under any magnification, but only the subtensions would be off. No notes Reese K - On the most recent This Week in Guns they talked about a blind man who bought a gun and then was complaining about how easy it was. If you guys became legally blind, from whatever terrible accident you want, what would you choose for home defense? Cory R - Why is Aaron such a douche. Dude is fucking up the show arguing about the dumbest shit. Arguing that ffls shouldn't be able to charge for transfers? Fucking dumbass. Then today argue with savage for not reading the facts right after he did. Jesus, please take his mic before I have to quit listening. DoppleBanger - Looking to buy a battle rifle clone from the 50s-60s era in .308. Price doesn't matter. What are your suggestions? M14 Clone? G3 clone? Fal? The winner of this week's swag pack is Ice Wallocum! To win your own, go to welikeshooting.com/dashboard and submit a question! Gun Industry News Springfield Launches 1911 TRP AOS: Optic Ready in 9mm Springfield Armory launched a new version of their TRP handgun, now available in 9mm along with the traditional .45 ACP. Caught in a storm of hidradenitis suppurativa, government Kafka, and a world obsessed with victimhood, I hacked my way to near remission—no docs, no mentors, just gritty, dyslexic stubbornness. This ain't self-help fluff—it's real talk on agency, authenticity, and thinking your way out. From a Goodwill toy rant on polymodal learning to dodging propaganda with Nietzsche's ressentiment in my ear, I'm spilling how I beat HS and why we've lost the art of surmounting. Live streams are coming—raw, unscripted, building a crew who get it. Join me to ditch the pity party, heal for real, and know yourself in a fractured age. Shades, not fragments—let's go.

Letting Go of Anxiety and Loneliness -The Deeper Dive Breaking the Cycle of Anxiety and Loneliness Transforming Isolation into Connection Hey there, my unplugged friends! Welcome back to another episode of the Personal Development Unplugged Podcast—the place where we keep things real, relatable, and ridiculously helpful. Today, we're tackling, again but deeper, what so many of us experience: the sneaky, self-reinforcing loop of anxiety and loneliness. You know the one—it starts with feeling anxious, which leads to withdrawal, which leads to loneliness... and before you know it, you're caught in a cycle that's hard to escape. But don't worry, we're diving deep into how to break free and rediscover connection. What We'll Chat About Today Previously, we explored some practical tips like sending a simple text or making small, meaningful connections in your day-to-day life. These are brilliant starting points, but what if they don't quite hit the mark? That's where the deeper work begins. In this episode, we'll uncover how your unconscious mind might actually be keeping these feelings of anxiety and loneliness around for a reason. Yep, your unconscious is trying to help you—just in an outdated, unhelpful way. Here's the thing: anxiety and loneliness often stem from old patterns that were created to protect you in the past. We'll ask powerful questions like: What is this anxiety or loneliness trying to protect me from? Where did these feelings first come from? By understanding the positive intention behind these emotions, you can guide your unconscious mind to let go of what doesn't serve you anymore and replace it with something that does. Practical Steps for Transformation I'll share simple but powerful exercises, like jotting down your qualities and strengths or visualizing the version of you that you're ready to step into. These tools help you tap into the wisdom and resilience you already have inside. And hey, if this feels overwhelming, don't go it alone. A skilled therapist can be an incredible guide in this process, helping you uncover the root cause of what's holding you back. Let's Make a Change Together So, are you ready to unplug from anxiety and loneliness? Let's turn these challenges into an opportunity to grow, connect, and shine even brighter. From Anxiety to Confidence Let's Make the Shift Together Let's get real for a minute. Have you ever felt that knot in your stomach at the thought of speaking up in front of a group—even if it's just a handful of people? You're not alone. I've been there too. I've felt that dread, the sweaty palms, the shaky voice. But here's the good news: it doesn't have to stay that way. In this episode, I'm going to share my own story—how I went from terrified to totally at ease, speaking to not just a few people but hundreds. And I'll let you in on a little secret: it didn't take a complicated process or years of effort. It was a simple, powerful shift. What We'll Dive Into: The magic of visualization—how imagining your success as if it's already happening can calm your fear and build real confidence. Fueling confidence with your passion and curiosity—because when you care about what you're saying, everything changes. Why simplicity is the ultimate tool—you don't need tricks or hype, just a new way to see yourself. Here's Your Challenge: There's a process in this episode too You will take a moment—just a few minutes. Close your eyes and picture yourself succeeding. Imagine standing there, calm, collected, and confident. Feel it. Step into that version of you and notice how good it feels. Practice it. Let it sink in. If you know someone who needs a little nudge to find their confidence—share this episode. You never know who might need to hear it. https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/422-a-simple-process-to-overcome-fear-and-anxiety Let's keep shining brightly, Paul Shine Brightly
Overcoming the Fear of Failure – Let's Unplug This Together Hey, you. Yes, you. Have you ever felt stuck, frozen in the headlights of your own expectations? Like you've got to get it just right or not bother at all? That nagging fear of failure with that belief of "I'm not good enough"—it creeps in, doesn't it? It stops us before we even start. But guess what? Today, we're pulling the plug on all that. In this episode, we're diving deep into what's really behind that fear of failing. Spoiler alert: it's not about being perfect. It's about the stories we tell ourselves, the beliefs lurking in the shadows of our subconscious, and the ways we unknowingly keep ourselves stuck. But don't worry—we're not here to wallow. We're here to shift. What We'll Uncover: Why your unconscious mind stirs up all that anxiety—hint: it's trying to protect you, just not in the best way. The roots of perfectionism and how they keep you from living your best, most adventurous life. How to rewrite those old stories—yes, the ones that tell you “you're not good enough.” Tapping into your wins—those times you nailed it, even when you doubted yourself. Anchoring powerful, feel-good emotions to calm that inner critic and give you the courage to. There's loads of golden nuggets here along with the 'HOW' to change Please share so that others too can create the life they deserve - pay it forward https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/421-afraid-to-fail-lets-change-that Enjoy, shine and be well Paul Shine Brightly

Feel Good and Getting Better it me or do we all want everything NOW! Instantaneously or even quicker.I think we've fallen into the trap that instant gratification is the thing. But if we get that then we want the next thing and the next thing and I feel we miss out. Why do we want everything instantaneously? It got me thinking how does this apply to our personal development? Our dreams and desires? Enjoying the adventure and not just the elusive prize. Then I got to thinking about therapy and how I like quick and comfortable change. Is that in conflict with the adventure of developing our true self? If you would, come follow me on this little dive of of discovery of how we can create a practice of celebrating who and where we are and being curious of what's to come. It's really not how fast. It's enjoying how good and getting better. That might be the title of this podcast or this episode, I'm not sure yet, but just for a moment, just for a moment, while you're here with me, I'd like you to take a breath. Just a breath. And, know that you're blessed because you are. Just take that breath. Because I've been thinking. I do that. I do a lot of weird thinking. And I was thinking the other day, why do we want everything now? And I'm saying we, because I know I do. I know I do. Occasionally, not always, but I get lost in that. But I see it in so many different ways that people, want something right now. Right now at the latest, tomorrow. You know, everything you order has got to be here tomorrow. Can't wait. Got to have it. And it's like a race, even. It's not just getting things to be able to do things to, you know, maybe in this land, this life of personal development, there's a race to get somewhere quicker, to find that hack. And I hate the word hack, you know that. To learn something quicker, to have it now, to be able to do these things instant, bloody taneously. And it's. Is it? Or is it? Or is it. Is that search for instant gratification feeling good right now, no delay. It's got to happen now. And I think when you have that instant gratification, it just doesn't last. Because the thing is, we've got this in our mindset. I'm saying we. Maybe it's all me. I don't know. But I think there's a bit of this in everybody, and there's certainly a lot of it in a lot of people as well. And I think we can learn from others. We can learn the good things about others, and we can learn what not to do from others actions. But that instant gratification doesn't last, because the next thing I want, the next thing I want, the next thing now. I want it now. I want it now. You don't even have time to enjoy, to enjoy what you have, right now, what you've achieved. So that's why I said, let's stop, take a breath, pause for a little while, and just think for a moment, what is the prize that we want? That's a big question. Is it, Paul? And it's totally too vague. I'm thinking about what is the prize that we desire, a dream of for ourselves in our own personal development, because that's what this is, isn't it? It's personal development. Unplugged. so we're going to get into the raw part of this. Let's get naked. Where did that come from? Clubby. But, you know, what is the prize we won? I made a few notes, a few bullet points. I thought, well, there's skills I want to learn skills, different things. I want to improve the skills I've got and build upon them. So my skill base and that foundation gets bigger and stronger to enable me to do even more things. Maybe I want to let go of certain negative emotions, and I want to experience more positive emotions and things like, and they all link together, don't they? Because if I'm learning new skills that I really enjoy and it's making me feel I'm a better, more capable person, more confident, more confident person, my emotions are going to be more positive, aren't they? What will happen to my beliefs? My beliefs will be more positive about me. Probably, have more positive beliefs about other people, but it's all about me, my identity. Chipping away at the stuff that doesn't work. Chipping away the stuff that has been trying to protect me, but is no longer appropriate and, finding the real beliefs and, values of me, my identity, who I really am and who I can grow to be. And it's grow, not instant. It's grow, evolve. What about behaviors? Because they come from skills and emotions and beliefs, don't they? Because it's one thing just knowing stuff, but being able to do stuff, it's be and do and know, isn't it? it's that mastery again, knowing what to do and doing what you know and have that expand, have that grow. Cloughie says letting go of anxiety and fears can lead to positive change And ultimately, I guess it's to grow and experience a good life, because a good life will have all the wonderful things that you've done. M and I see that as the prize. We can go deeper into that. I mean, what would it feel like to have that dream come true, knowing that you're going to carry on growing, experiencing a good life even more, more richer, and having the time to wallow in it. And I. Wallow is a weird word, but I love the word to wallow in good experiences, wallowing, good emotions. Why not? We've created them. You've created it. You created your beliefs, your emotions, your skills, your behaviors, because you had the right intention. You know, I see those people who go, oh, I've been around. I've traveled, man. I've traveled. I've been everywhere. I've done this. And you talked. Oh, yeah, I've been there and I've been there. How did you be in so many places? Well, they did, but they only visited for half a day. A day. It was like getting your stamp and moving on. And to me, well, that's not experiencing stuff. That's not wallowing, is it? I love the term, let's just sit down for a spell. And that spell, spellbound, being in the moment and just thinking, yeah, this is good, and I'm gonna do more of this. Now, I've talked about slowing down and really getting into what the desire, what the prize, what the dream is. Not instant gratification, but on the other hand, there's a complete. When I was thinking about this, you're going, okay, Cloughie. That, to me, seems really positive. But on the other hand, what do you talk about when you do your own therapy? Cloughie. And you see, when it comes to change, as in change of letting go of the things that are, stopping us using our skills, our emotions, our values, and growing and evolving in experience, I like to have therapeutic change as quick as possible. In fact, our unconscious mind learns to change quickly. It doesn't like, like one word at a time, one word a day. If you read a book, one word a day, well, after two days, you wouldn't even. Three days, four days, you wouldn't know what's happening. You wouldn't know. Even if you read the whole book, you wouldn't retain anything because it wouldn't make sense. But if you could let go of anxiety and fears just like that, you have time, more time to grow those experiences, to grow those skills, to grow those emotions, to wallow in wonderful things. And, I think that's the dichotomy, really. I want you to have that gratification of quick change, knowing that you can change quickly because your unconscious mind is only trying to protect you. And you can find it in a better way, because if you compare anxiety, fears, unconfidence, any negative emotion, guilt, jealousy, what else can we have? Depression, OCD, aHD, AdHD? I don't believe that. But hey, all that stuff trying to do you some good, but is really stopping you. If you found a better way from developing those skills to developing more positive emotions. Because do you feel safer when you're doing the things that you love, being confident and competent in the things you love, having that good emotion, believing in yourself and the behaviours coming out into a good experience, that's safety. So we just need to learn from the past and we can learn from the past really quickly because we get your unconscious mind to do that. And because of that we can then allow ourselves to experience creating the you you want to be and experiencing those moments, those aha, uh-huh moments when you suddenly realize, if you stop, take a breath and realize, yeah, at this very moment in time, I'm blessed, I'm going to be more blessed as I evolve. But imagine what you'd see if you let go of that anxiety, let go of those fears, let go of that, unconfidence, let go of that guilt, whatever, whatever, whatever we talked about, you fill in the blank. What would it feel like if you could lose that in a few moments, a couple of hours maybe, what would it be? What would you see in the world? How would the world look different? Because it would look different because you'd be seeing it through a different set of filters. And when you look at. And you'd see it from a different perspective. And when you look at things differently, we know things look different. And, what were the sounds and the words that you would hear, that, self talk, what would that be like when you've let go of that anxiety, fear and confidence and all that other stuff, and living in the world of developing your skills, really aligning yourself with your values and your beliefs and your personal development, knowing that you're going to grow and experience a good life. And how would that make you feel when you put that all together? Seeing what you'll be seeing, hearing what you'll be hearing, because you've let go of all those negative, emotions, negative behaviors, negative beliefs, limiting beliefs, and you're working forward towards growing, growing into the next part of you. You might even taste and smell success. And that's when I say it's a matter of doing that quickly so you could be able to stop and pause, take a breath and, realize, how far have I travelled? You see, this is you now. So when you stop and pause just for a moment, notice, yeah, I may have a few issues I need to deal with. But if I look back, if I did look back, I, know I've gone through things and they've disappeared now. So I can do this. Let me do it quickly because Cloughie says you can, because that's what we do. So if you listen to hypnosis, tracks NLP processes, go and see a therapist, a good hypnotist, I always tell you, a hypnotist, NLP practitioner and timeline. Therapist, practitioner, you get one of those who has got those skills, boom. You'll do it really quickly and so you can then set yourself up to start learning and developing and evolving. But just. If you just say how, you know, if I look back now on this personal development, life that I've led, how far have I traveled in this hero's journey, hero's adventure? What was I like a year ago? Four years ago? Wow. Yeah. Because sometimes we forget that when we're living in the moment. But it's good to know how far we've come because now we can look to see where we want to go because it will give us more confidence in ourselves, more competence to be able to say, well, I can do more because I've got more skills. I've got more skills than I had back then. So if I've got more skills, more, access to more positive emotions, beliefs and values, and I've got behaviours that really go forward to my prize, my desires, my dreams of being the best version of me, I can do even more. And you begin to wonder in this moment of, just being you right now. You just wonder what's in store. What's in store for me, my life. Imagine that now. Just being you, just taking this breath, knowing you're blessed, feeling grateful because you're still. I nearly swore and still alive. You're above ground, you're taking breaths. So you've got everything you need. And I think you see, I, know you're going to work on your skills. I, know you're going to work on letting go of emotions, the negative emotions, letting go of limiting beliefs. And I know you're going to work at accessing positive emotions, being aligned to your highest values, having positive beliefs about yourself, the identity beliefs that really going to support you, therefore creating wonderful behaviours. Practice of celebrating being you, being me. Whatever your circumstances I want you to practice. This is what I'd like. I want you to actually sit down for that spell and create a practice of celebrating being you, being me. Even if we're a little bit broken. We've talked about that before, being a little bit broken because we always go, a little bit broken, but go, yay. Yay. I. She wrote that down on my notes. A big capital letters, uppercase y, a y, exclamation marks all over the place. Yay. It's just because I don't think we do. And once we celebrate who we are, I think our unconscious mind gets it, gets it even more. And, we can just. And it doesn't have to take long. You know, to me it's like, it's a form of the attitude of gratitude. Just taking this moment, taking a breath, realizing you're blessed. Whatever your circumstances. Yes, we've got some issues maybe that we need to deal with. Maybe life has thrown us a curveball and at this moment in time, we're not in our best state. But when we sit here right now and go, do you know what? I'm still alive. I'm me. And I've got. Because I'm still alive and because I'm still breathing, I've got the opportunity to develop those, skills even more, to deal with this, to access the right emotions and behaviours and beliefs. Because this too will pass. And even the good stuff, this too will pass. And you go, that's negative, Cloughie. No, because this too will pass and get richer, get richer, so much more richer in life, the experiences. And you could just sometimes, even imagine in the future of what that will be like because there is so much more to come. And it's not when we go right back to the beginning, it's not how fast, it's how good, how good it could be right now. Finding the good in the right now and knowing it's been getting better. Therefore it will keep getting better. And you then can look at that vision, that ultimate vision of you, the best version of yourself that will just keep getting bigger and brighter and better because you'll be building off that firmer foundation. And I think just doing this moment of practice, celebrating, because it's not just reviewing. We've done that, we do reviews, we do our planning, but just celebrating this moment in time. And yay. I'm still a little broken, but who gives a fuck? I did swear. But that's, that's it, isn't it? Who gives a fuck? It's me. I'm growing and I will continue to grow and I'm going to do the best I can. Wouldn't that be good? Isn't that good? And, how long does it take to practice celebrating being who you are right now? 30 seconds. Could be 10 seconds. Have you got 10 seconds in your day? You betcha. And with a lot of the stuff I talk about, there is only one negative side effect. If it doesn't work, if this doesn't make you feel better, more confident, more motivated to carry on, the worst side effect it will be is that 10 seconds in your day you will feel bloody awesome because you're celebrating the best of you. Nothing else. Just looking for the best of you and feeling grateful for it, feeling blessed. You're in this life and you're stepping up to the plate. And I'm celebrating being here because I'm going to make a difference, by the way. And that's what this will all come from. Because as we have that prize, that desire, that dream, in this personal development, to be the best version of ourselves, I know that will include helping and serving others, because it is. It always does. You'll be in that frame of mind to do things naturally, to help other people, the world, the planet, animals, whatever it is which floats your boat. You'll do good stuff for no one to return, and you'll make a difference. And then when you do stop and practice this celebration, you can take that in, too, and wonder how that's going to develop even more. That passion, that seed of passion will grow and then celebrate its growth, nurture it, feed it, water it. That's all there is. Well, maybe that's not all there is. There's lots of other stuff. But it's, to me, that's a lot of it. So let's just take that moment. Maybe if you want to. It's a muse. But if you just stop now, just celebrate yourself. Thank you for being here. Thank me for all the stuff I've gone through and I'm here and I'm still punching away, stepping up to that plate over and over again to be the best me I can. Sometimes I don't quite hit that bar, but that's okay because I'm going to do it better next time. Celebrate being you. Take a breath. There you go, my friend. I hope you enjoyed that little music. I just sometimes think that we can do all these wonderful different things, have all the processes in the world, and, you know, I've got loads of processes which are free. Where are they? Purcell? No, they're not there, Paul. They're at paulcloughonline.com podcast. Also, if you go to the main page there, you'll see some other stuff I've got there, which is good. All the discounted prices and all that stuff. And you can just have access to those low 60 plus hypnosis NLP processes to help you do that quick change from anxiety to confidence. So please take access of that. It's the whole reason. Not the whole reason, but one of the main reasons I've been doing this stuff. A lot of this is stuff is me talking to me. And you get, if there is any benefit, what falls out. But those processes, I've, put my best into those and I think they will. There's a lot of good stuff there. Not blowing it up bigger than it is, but I think I know it's stuff that I use in my therapy with other people and I just bloody work. I'm going to current adding to it. What would happen if everyone celebrated being who they were So if you could do that and if you could just share this as usual, that would be good. Because I think everyone. What would happen if everyone celebrated being who they were and feeling good for who they were and knowing there's so much more to come, knowing that it's not how fast, it's how good, how rich, we could enjoy the experience of evolution of ourselves towards the best version of ourselves. What would happen if everybody did that? So if you could share this, I think it'll make a difference. It'll make a difference to me, it'll make a difference to you, I know, but it'll make a difference to them and therefore it'll make a difference to little old planet Earth, which is the whole ecology of it all. Good for you, good for others, good for little old planet Earth. there you go. And if any of this is just that. Oh, actually, Paul, you know, you've said all this, but, I'm a bit struggling with getting rid of x, y, z. You know, I'm struggling with a bit of anxiety around or fear a bit about this, or this bloody adhd or all that stuff. Send me an email feedback@personaldevelopmentunplugedg.com. Have a little chat with you and we'll see what we can do about creating something just for you, because it'll be just for you and, everyone else gets the benefit of it. So it's good for you, good for me, because I love doing it, good for other people and therefore be good for planet earth. we're back there on the old ecology trail, so please do share, okay? And for goodness sake, if you haven't done it already, please do not press that subscribe button more than twice. Just once will do. Have more fun than you can stand, because that's the thing when you're celebrating you're going to have more fun. And you can stand right now. Take a breath and fly, my friend, and I'll see you on the next time, the fmqs and the longer podcasts. Okay? Have fun. Thank you so much for your time. It's precious and I appreciate it. Thank you. The #1 lesson I learned from creating the #R3ciprocity Project: YOU DON'T CARE. What you must understand with all things in your life is this: Ultimately, you are on your own. It is solely up to you to rise again and persevere. When I embarked on the R3ciprocity Project, I naively believed that rallying support would be straightforward. Given the project's significance—creating a platform to help create non-rejectable #research papers and grants, I assumed diverse groups would eagerly contribute. #Scientists, #researchers, #universities, and #students would be driven by the universal struggle with research papers and grant proposals. Yet, I was vastly MISTAKEN. While these issues are widely acknowledged, I've learned that people primarily look out for their own interests; they are not as eager to change the world as they might claim. The reality is that many shy away from being part of the solution. You get simple responses, “You are a nice guy for doing that,” or the most common, the hollow stare. Faced with this hard reality, you have two choices: Wallow in frustration or adapt to meet people where they are. I choose #resilience. Screw ‘em. I will see you in a decade. I will continue to stand strong and push forward. Persist in your efforts and release any expectation of assistance. It's up to YOU to forge your path and make things happen.

We've all been stuck in the mud. Even Brandon, with his vast array of man-skills, has found himself up his axles in mud a time or two…or maybe it's just the one time. My point is that it happens to the best of us. There is no shame in getting stuck. It happens to anyone who is out there trying to make things happen. It's what we do once we're stuck in the mud that matters. Get down on ourselves? Wallow in it? Pretend it's not there? Hit the accelerator as hard as we can in a frustrated and futile attempt to get out? None of these are good approaches to mud, but it's safe to say, we've all given them a shot in one way or another. Join us this week on a Time to Sharpen as we discuss strategies for getting unstuck with your teenager. And remember, this is a judgment free zone, so don't be embarrassed if you're caked in mud at the moment. It'll wash off, and you'll be back on the road and better aware of how to keep from sliding off. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/time-to-sharpen/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/time-to-sharpen/support
Creating The Real You If we could do this in half an hour that would be magic and I am not a magician. Creating the real you is a work in progress and you wouldn't be here if you thought otherwise. This episode is inspired by reading 'The Creative Act' by Rick Ruben famously from a music background. As I read it (well I am not finished yet) I kept comparing his thoughts on creativity in music to that of personal development, and self-improvement. The terms of finding our true voice and the privilege of being able to create just resonated with me and I hope I can resonate with you with my comparisons and a process or two. I also look at what stops us in this creating of our true self, those limiting beliefs of "I'm not worth it" or " I don't belong here" and how we can change those and find more supporting beliefs and their associated emotions and behaviors. Please join me by pressing play and I hope you enjoy :O) Please share if you do https://personaldevelopmentunplugged.com/370-creating-the-real-you/ Again - Thank you to Rick Ruben Shine brightly Paul Please remember you can leave a comment or email me with questions, requests and feedback. And just going to have conversations with you in this podcast and get you thinking, but also share those processes because we're going to have so much fun. That's it. We're going to have fun for a change because we can sit down for a spell and have more fun than we can stand creating the world we want to live in and be the person we want to be in that world. The only limitation the only limitation is your imagination. And you got bucket loads, by the way. Bucket loads. Have a listen. You really must. This is personal development. Unplugged with Paul Clough. In simplicity, there is genius. In simplicity, there is genius. This episode is inspired inspired by a book called The Creative Act Speaker A: Hey, friend, how you doing? And creating the real you. This episode is inspired inspired by a book I'm not through yet, but in the middle of reading. And it's called The Creative Act, and it's by a guy called Rick Rubin, rick Rubin from the music world. And it's all about creativity. But the thing is, here's something. These were my words, and I said, wow. And I said it. Our lives are, our creation events. Experiences don't shape us. It's how we act and react and learn from them. And that's what creates us. You, me. And they were my words. And they were my words, which were inspired by reading bits and pieces or the bits and pieces that stuck with me from this book. Yes, it is about music, but it's also about just creativity. And, I wanted to change this slightly. Everything I read you see, as I do these things, it seems whatever I read, listen, or just see, I tend to compare with my hour personal development with the term personal development. And in that personal development, I'm guessing in my mind, the aim of personal development for me is to create the ultimate me, the ultimate vision of me, whatever that is. I want to get there. And then I want another ultimate vision and another one after that just to keep can I grow to be my best? And that's what I want for you. I want you to grow to be your best and then even better than that. And that's why the things that, I've read in this book seem to just I don't know, they came in parallel with this thing, this thing of the creative act. And, here's a quote. Here's a quote from the book. It's the privilege. I say that again because I want to really be mucking up. Let's do it again. It's the privilege, the creative act. I've called it personal development, by the way. Creating us. We're choosing it. We're not being ordered to do it. And if you don't want to do it, don't do it. And, that's exactly what we say here and in NLP. Isn't that being a cause, not the effect. We're choosing choosing it choosing the creative act or choosing the creative act of creating the ultimate, the best version of ourselves. Being at cause, not the effect. And blaming everyone else and the weather, the people around you, the financial situation and everything else. No. Being at cause, taking responsibility, choosing choosing this creative act of being who you really are. Striving for it. But you see, sometimes sometimes, I guess we don't want to do those things. But we don't want to do the things that we really know. Know that we well, it would make our life better. But we still don't do the bloody things, do we? And, why is that? If we know they're good for us, why don't we do them? Why do we then go on to that fex side and blame everything else? Well, I think there's a little reason, maybe a big reason, but there is a reason that came to my mind. And you see, sometimes when we think about doing this creative act, stepping out of our call it comfort zone or familiar, I like to call it the familiar zone stepping out into something new which would really forge that new or the best version of us, we pull back because we get a negative emotion. Maybe it's fear, maybe it was anxiety. Maybe it was that bloody impostor syndrome that people bang on about. We get the limiting belief, well, I'm not good enough. I don't belong here. All that stuff. And it's there to protect us, I guess. Well, I know it is. It's your unconscious mind saying, I don't want you to be like a failure. I want you to succeed, I want you to be safe. But the thing is, when we feel fear, anxiety, we have that limiting belief of, I'm not good enough, I don't belong here. It doesn't feel bloody safe, does it? It doesn't feel safe at all, because it did back then, when you were little, give you a little bit of fear, a little bit of worry. You didn't do things, you weren't stupid, you just didn't do silly things, not stupid things. And it saved you from those feelings, but it kept doing it more and more and more. And we know if we sat down quietly, intellectually, and that's a word doesn't normally come in my conversations, but intellectually, we know that some of these things are really good for us, some of them maybe a bit bonky, but they're good, they're going to forge this ultimate vision of ourselves into reality. So we get to choose, don't we? There's a big but there but against that anxiety, the fear, the limiting beliefs, but we do get to choose if we ask some right questions, because we got to choose wisely, haven't we? You don't do anything silly and harm yourself without not without thinking, then harm yourself. But you don't do anything without thinking and mitigate any danger, any fears, any anxiety. Get it out the way, you'll be safe then. So you first of all have to think, I guess, will this thing I want to do that I'm a little bit anxious about, I don't feel like doing it, but will it make my life better if I do it? Will it make me a better version of myself, a better version of you? And you can just sit with that and go, well, actually, if I got that experience, yeah, and maybe I don't quite know how to do it yet, and the word yet, but if I put that as a goal out there, work towards it, would that make my life better or worse? Would it make me a better version of me or not? Now, you have to be honest in those thoughts, not let the anxiety, the fear, the limiting belief get in the way. You push them to one side, you park them, because you're not going to get eaten by a saber toothed tiger and all that stuff, which is where the old reptilian brain comes in to save you. Fight and flight, you've already got that. Fight and flight is hardwired in your neurology, so if something did happen, you're safe. You would act and behave in a way to keep you safe. So park that for the moment and just look at the outcome, what you would achieve if you did this thing that you were frightened about, you were anxious about, would it make a better version of you? Would your life be better? Would the opportunities be better? Now, if the answer is no, and you have to be honest, because sometimes we get peer pressure, don't we? We get pressure from all the noise out there, and there's a bloody lot of noise sometimes. The bloody social media giving you all that pressure. That supposedly what everybody's doing. So we have to do it. But if the honest answer is, well, actually, it won't make my life any better, it won't make a better version of myself. Do you know what the answer is? Don't do it. Because as you go back to that quotation, it's a privilege, creating us, we're choosing it, not being ordered to do it. If you don't want it, or, you don't want to do it, don't do it. And that's what I'm saying here. If you're honest about it and you go, do you know what? Cloughy: Can you change your belief just like that Speaker A: The result will not make me better? Don't do it. Stand up. Just say no. Because once you've said no, it disappears. But if the answer is honestly yes, then we have to think, well, let's just guide our, unconscious mind a little bit, because we've got imagination. And no one even in when they try to no one can control your imagination. It's in your mind, it's in your head. You have it. It's yours to do whatever you want. So we could go into the future, and if you were to think about it now, and you might want to do it, you might want to do it now. So if you could and there, you're not you haven't got anything that needs your attention or anything like that, driving a car and all that stuff, if you could just do it now, you might just want to listen to it, if you are doing this driving stuff. So you know what it's about. But if you could do it now, and if you could close your eyes, just take away the distractions, you could think into the future now, having achieved that thing, what would it be like to have done it already? See what you'll see, having got the results, the success. Hear what you'll hear. Hear the internal voice. See those pictures in your mind of new opportunities having already been successful in this venture. Maybe the taste and smell of success. And then when you see and you hear and you smell and you taste, feel the feelings. And as you feel those feelings, just look out even further to the future and notice, having got this achievement, what new opportunities will come your way now? That continued growth, that next level, as it were, of the ultimate vision of you that you could look towards. and as you think of all of that, just notice what belief you have about yourself. What belief did you have? What belief must you have right now, having achieved all of this? just think of that and write it down. If you can. Write that belief down, that's right now, just come back to me for the moment, open your eyes and think, going back to those old fears, that old anxiety, that old belief I'm not good enough, I don't belong here. I don't know why I do that funny voice. It's not funny, is it? But I don't belong here. Where did that bloody belief come from? Where did it come from in the past? Was it yours? Was it somebody else's? Did someone say it to you? Because others opinions are not your business. Your opinions are ah, your business. And hopefully your opinions are based on sound experience and data, not other people's, not other people's words that aren't backed up with data and facts. So just think where did that belief I'm not good enough, come from? Well maybe it came from that little you back then in the past when your unconscious mind tried to protect you from maybe feeling embarrassed and it stopped you doing the thing that would embarrass you. But that was then and it's not now. We've talked about the past is a past and it doesn't exist. It only exists in your head. So let it go. So if that belief doesn't serve you, what would that better belief be? You've just thought of one as we went into the future. But even now, knowing that, would there be a better belief to have that would really support you and keep you? mhm? And you might say, well hey Cloughy, hey, hey slow down a bit, take a breath. Because I was getting excited, wasn't I? Take a breath and just ask, I'm asking you Cloughy, can you just change your belief just like that? Can we just change just like that? Well I think you can. You can change your belief in a moment by the way. And it doesn't matter whether it's a core belief because some people used to say, oh, you can never change a core belief. Well that's BS. You can change a belief in a moment. the old four minute mile people used to believe you die if you run under four minutes a mile in under four minutes. Then good old Roger Bannister came along, beat it by just something like a half a second, didn't he? Wasn't much, just a little bit. First man to beat the four minute mile get under four minutes. What happened in the weeks to come? Every bugger was doing it. They changed their belief because they saw in that moment what they believed couldn't be done. They saw it happen, it became real. So they can change a belief in a moment. And if that new belief serves you better, keeps you safer, your unconscious mind will take it on. Imagine having that powerful, protective, safe belief that empowers you Speaker A: So again, just as we did before, knowing that you can imagine and visualize, now you know what the success looks like having achieved that result. Imagine doing it that way. So if you were to just close your eyes again, imagine having that wonderful, powerful, protective, safe belief that empowers you, puts you at cause, taking responsibility. And when you do that, imagine doing that thing to achieving that success. Haven't quite got there yet. You're going to do it. What's it like taking those steps? Maybe they're little baby steps. Some people don't like baby steps but just call them small steps and getting bigger. Walking, then skipping, then running, noticing the new opportunities coming your way even when you haven't even got the final success yet. But you're still seeing new opportunities, maybe meeting new people, learning new things. Feel what that's like. See what you'll see, hear what you'll hear. And notice the feeling. And be honest. Does it feel safer? Safer than that old fear and anxiety? Does this way protect you better? And if you said to your unconscious mind, hey, have a look, have a look at this. Notice this is safer than what you used to do. Because that old way of doing things was from a long time ago and it's no longer appropriate. These are using my all my skills now and learning more. And just ask your unconscious mind would it be better, would it be better to protect me in this way? This or something better? And you see that's well, you can open your eyes again. If you did close them, by the way, wouldn't that be better? And that's how you can change. Just like that. You might have to do it a couple of times, but bucket that's not too much to ask, is it? When you go to the gym, do, you get supersonically fit in that first bloody hour that you go to the gym and you never have to go again? Well, of course you don't. You do. Bit by bit. You build up you build up that skill of visualization. Because once you get that empowerment, things become clearer. You get to feel the feeling. And you see there's a great quote in that book and it said this ultimately, your desire to create and I put in brackets, the real you, the real me must be greater than your fear. Well, we've just shown it by when we go into that visualization, doing things a different way, that desire will be so much greater than your fear because you'll have better resources than fear itself. And that's why we just say to our unconscious mind, look at this, I'm going to show you my conscious mind will now show you that fear and anxiety is now inappropriate. It doesn't work in this event. And if you think of it as being and finding your real voice, there was another quote. You're the only one with this voice. Think of that. No one else in this world before, ah, in the past, now or in the future will have your voice. people say we always used to say in hypnosis, you're unique. And it was a bit of a word. It is a word, but it was a bit of a saying. But it's true though, isn't it? You are unique. You're the only one with this voice. Let's not hide it. Let's, grow it, train it to become such a wonderful musical sound in the world, to resonate, resonate in you and resonate in others. And all you're doing is doing this thing about creating the real you, taking the responsibility to do it because no other swore then no other person will help you will do it for you. They can't. It's no good. You're saying, can you do it for me? No. You have to take those steps. You take the responsibility. And when you do that, the, oh, if only looking back, oh, if only I could have I shoulda, all that bullshit would disappear. And even sometimes, because I'm not going to say every time you do this, you're going to have complete success because things happen. Sometimes we don't. Maybe we just make not the wrong choice, but we make a choice, which isn't in that way, but we learn. We learn from the results that we get. They're not failures. We learn from the results we get. We are flexible. And we head for that goal again, having learned from it. And it's the learnings that keep you free. Learnings, that keep you safe. And remember or re remember intention. When you set your intention and you decide to have the will to do whatever it takes, your confidence in your competence will grow immeasurably. Because you've set your intention, you're going to do this. I'm going to do whatever it takes to get there. And I'm going to use that wonderful positive belief. I'm going to find my voice. I'm going to find this version of me that I have out there. And then when I get there, I'm going to have another one. Yeah. Take a breath. Cluffy. Take a breath. You see, I made a meta note of this, as if I was looking down at my notes and what I was talking about and the meta note was this will always be a work in progress. So there's always another opportunity. There's always time in the now to keep creating. And you can learn from everything. That was the other thing I wanted to tell you. Doesn't matter what you're experiencing, there's some learnings there that will help you grow. Just as I was reading this book about creativity, and I haven't even finished it, and I found these wonderful sayings that inspired me because we can take it. It's like taking different skills and put them into different areas because that's what we do. it's not only skill stacking, but it's using skills in different areas because there's always a different way to do things or not manipulate, but evolve using different skills. And all you have to do, I guess, is just be a little bit curious. And I thought to myself, well, why is this all important? What's so important about this bloody message that, you've come out with cluffy. And I thought to myself, well, why is this important? Paul Clough: We have the privilege of choosing to create ourselves Speaker A: And it comes down to the real, basic, simple statement. You I we get to choose. We get to choose. We have that wonderful privilege, as Rick Rubin says, of choosing to create us. and it is a privilege, isn't it? And I always say, sort of say this to so many people, whatever your belief, if this was the one and only life we have, it is a privilege, because you get to choose. You get to do this. You get to choose. And if you don't, you're wasting that privilege. So let's go do it. And if you want to read the book, it is a great book, Rick Rubin, and it's called The Creative Act. It's a great book. I haven't finished reading it. I'll come back with more I'm sure inspired me. Great book. There you go. I hope, as usual, that I communicated, and maybe with a bit more passion than I thought, but I communicated my thoughts in a way that inspires you just a little bit. Just a little bit to think, to muse, to visualize that ultimate vision of yourself, the beliefs that support that ultimate vision of who you really can be. And you take that responsibility. If I've done that job done, I'd love to hear if I did that, and if I didn't, how could I have done it better? And maybe, what were the effects of you going into that visualization and taking that responsibility? I'd love to know what the effects were, the results, because then I can share them in another episode, because when we share the results, we get it inspires others. It's not ego saying, oh, look at me. It's no, look, this is what can be done. And we need people to tell to share what can be done, to inspire others. So if you'd like to drop me a line on, an email, it's feedback at personal developmentunplug.com only comes to me, and obviously, if I do talk about it, it will be anonymous. Not me, you. That would be great. And there's a button, that button of sharing or following, if you could press that, that would make a huge difference. If we all did it, I do it. I've got a couple of followings of myself and other people because I know it makes a difference to their podcast as well. If you can follow and, subscribe, it just helps make people more aware they get it in their inbox or whatever as a suggestion to look at, and it will help them, I'm sure. So if you could do that, that'd be wonderful. And share the episodes as well. Share the podcast. Hey, I want to take a breath. I need a cup of coffee. I need to relax and see what comes after this. So do have more fun than you can stand. Wallow in joy and happiness. Yeah. Nearly Christmas, too. Isn't it, though? We can spread it, too. Spread everything. Have fun. Till the next time, my friend. Thank you for your time. I am so grateful that you would just spend some time with me. So let's create the life and the world we want to live in. I'll see you soon. Bye bye. It's time to fly. You are now leaving the unclouded mind of Paul Clough. It's time to fly on your own. Be brave, my friend. Personal development. Unplugged.

The mountain was calling out to them from up above, it were as if the peaks themselves were demanding that they be climbed and conquered so as there may be no stone left unturned by man. The clouds hovered thick around each pointed top, in the distance they watched as eagles soared high. It was easy for them, without such fear of falling. The morning air was cold and brisk as they watched from the riverbank beneath, it seemed an awfully long way up and a very far way to go. Was it worth the risk? To who would their effort be worth? Soon they would pack up and depart, taking with them all that they could carry. For it was right to leave no trace and heaven forbid they upset the whimsical power of the mountain to crush them beneath its might and weight at any time. Gem Wallow is set to release a new EP on Barcelona based record label Playground . The record features a fun assortment of downtempo tracks with a pensive slow moving ambience which is almost ritualistic. It's rounded off by remixes from Simple Symnetry and Francis Inferno Orchestra.

Today's guest, Lisa Hathaway, had multiple tragic events happen to her in a very short period of time in her life and she lives to tell of them. Where was God? She was faced with a choice and shares her miraculous story today: Wallow or worship? ****** Kimberly Hobbs Welcome to Empowering Lives with Purpose. And I'm your host, Kimberly Hobbs. I'm the founder of Women World Leaders. Ladies, we are so glad that you joined us today. And I would love to welcome our guest Lisa Hathaway. Welcome, Lisa, Lisa Hathaway Thank you so much for having me, Kimberly. Kimberly Hobbs It's our pleasure. And we are excited to introduce her to you is who she is. And like you get to know Lisa a little bit. And God says in His word that they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb. And by the word of their testimony, Revelation 12:11. And ladies, today, Lisa is going to share a little bit about her story, and the miracles that God did in her life to get her through. And we hope that through listening to these stories, ladies that you will be inspired, and encouraged to walk out your beautiful purpose that something you might hear today will spark something in your life that you will connect dots and see what God may be speaking to your heart today. So that is our prayer as well as we go into these podcasts that God would speak to you through these words that we share today and through Of course, His scriptures, because there's power in the Word and we know that the word is life changing. So I want to introduce Lisa with a little bit about who she is. Lisa is a lover of Jesus, and has passion for the least of these. Her heartbeat is to see those who need a second chance and help them experience the tangible love of Jesus. Lisa has learned to worship through suffering as a special needs mom. She's a recent breast cancer survivor and also a survivor of a tragic car accident within a two year span. Suffering has been intertwined in her story, and she wants others to experience the sweetness of God through some of the most difficult things in life. She resides in Lexington, North Carolina with her amazing husband and three precious children. She's a youth leader. And Lisa has an MBA and is currently attending Liberty University Graduate School where she's pursuing her master's degree in clinical and mental health counseling. So today we titled this podcast wallow, or worship, wallow or worship we all have choices to make. How do you respond when difficult events happen in your life? Think about that. You have a choice and how you respond? Have you questioned God during your suffering? Today, Lisa, you chose to come on and be real with us and be authentic and share about some of the suffering that you endured. You had some choices to make, which we're going to talk about those choices in a little bit. But Lisa, you stated you had a choice that you could choose to wall up, wallow, or worship. So Lisa, can you open up today by sharing some of the trauma and grief of your story and a place that you were at prior to making a choice? Lisa Hathaway Yes, thank you so much, Kimberly, even hearing you talk through that. It's like, wow, you know, we all have, we all have stories, we all have testimonies, and we have to choose what to do with those stories, and choose what to do with suffering. And mine started back in the year of 2020. Obviously, the COVID year, everybody was you know, identifies that as COVID. And, you know, God gives me a word every year and my word for 2020 was rest. And I was like, you know, I'm a very active person. And so it was just like, okay, you know, we're gonna rest and then the end of February, I found out my mom had a genetic mutation of lung cancer. And a week later, I found out my dad had bladder cancer. And after those two, they're divorced, that you know, so they weren't live, you're not living together, obviously. But after those two diagnosis, I hit a low point just from that. And I was like, alright, God, you told me um, I heard this she was rest. So I'm like, a little stressful. And so I hit a really low point, just processing all that in my brain and then I was was a high school teacher teaching special education And our assistant principal and I, during COVID, we went virtual. So we had a little extra time. And so we decided we wanted to go hiking and mill the day at a local park. And it was the best day was just the best day. And she opened up to me and shared and on our way back was a ride around noon. I saw a car coming from a distance, and I was like, Wait, they're swerving all over the road. They're swerving all over the road. And the next thing I know, we were hit head on, and he was a drunk driver. And, um, she died right beside me. And, you know, I knew, in that moment that something wasn't right. Like, I could just steal it. In my spirit, I don't remember a lot about some details. But God has brought things back to memory, I think, for healing. And I saw her posture of saw the blood splattered all over me, I felt it. Um, I don't know, like how I got out of a car, I don't know any of that, like, I really shouldn't survive, he hit us about 65 miles an hour. Um, and so that, that day, I went to hospital. And from that point on, I didn't dry for two months, I suffered from, you know, PTSD, pretty severe in that timeframe. And I really started experiencing, I've been a Christian since I was eight years old, but I really start experiencing a whole new level of who God is. And and I say it was, but you know, he always has been. But when you are going through something, you start you are open to see we have a choice. Like we can get bitter and angry. And yes, I asked why, why, why, why, why, why, and then I stopped because I wasn't getting the answer that I wanted. And, um, you know, looking back on that, I'm now starting to understand the why. So I went to counseling immediately after the car accident because my brain couldn't process the trauma and grief. And then, you know, went through that I went back to teach in August, I had a pass for office every day, how to deal with all of that. And then we're coming up on 2021. And April 28 was the actual day it happened in 2020. And April 29 is my birthday. So I birthdays a little obviously bittersweet because I had to wake up the next day, knowing that she was not here. And you feel the feelings of guilt and all those things I've had to work through. And so April 28 of this of 2021, I, my mom, I took the day off work and we went and bought flowers. And I just love fresh flowers. And we went and so I could do it from my deck and I had my OB visit. So I did that and got my mammogram and all that good stuff. And we had lunch and then I get a call in May of 2021 May 24 And my doctor's like, um, I don't know what happened, but something just kind of got misplaced. And we found something on your mammogram that you're very sisty. So we probably just assume that it's that I'm like, okay, that's fine, whatever, I'm good. I don't take things real serious sometimes. And so we fast forward, and I went and got ultrasound. And after the sixth time of going in and out of the radiology room. I was like, huh, and God just started to prepare me. And I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma on June 11 of 2021. So, I was like, wow, God, like, what now? My word for 2021 was courage. And so I had risk for 2020 I had courage for 2021 Courage to to fight courage to walk through things i like how appropriate Lord, I'm and he has such a sense of humor. So I fast forward I had a double mastectomy on August 12 of 2021. And you know, going through everything happened so fast, like appointments and what treatment and all this stuff and you know, I was 44 when I was diagnosed. I'm 45 obviously now but um and so I was like oh my gosh, you got three kids or what? You know your mind can go and then because I I saw so much of God's faithfulness after the accident. I was like, Okay, God, like, I can't worry about this, like, you're gonna work this out because I saw his, his kindness and gentleness and the, how he never left me. And so did I think, does your mind go places? Absolutely. We're human. You know, my Armand goes like, oh, gosh, I'm just gonna die tomorrow. You know, I mean, I'm just, you know, that's the truth. And so I'm going through all of this, and, you know, we're going through the treatment and what to do, and I was like, double mastectomy, you know? Well, then yeah, I'm a very was a very large chested woman. And that to vary. I mean, we're all women here, suddenly, it's a very, it's a very physical part, it's a very sexual part, you know, all these things go through your mind, you're like, oh, my gosh, my whole entire body is gonna change. So when I had my double mastectomy, they propose things for you to have reconstruction. And so I decided to get implants. And in that process, they put tissue expanders in, and of course, my body rejects the tissue expanders. Um, and I had originally told my husband now I'm going to be before the mastectomy. So I'm going to be content with where I'm at. God spoke to me. And I'm going to be content with no reconstruction. Well, you know, then the flesh takes over, then people start talking to you, and you hear all these things. And so I was like, Oh, well, I've got to have implants and perky boobs, right. So I was like, Okay, I'm gonna do the tissue expanders, my body completely rejected him, I got a massive infection, heavy in the hospital for five days on T round to IV antibiotics, just because I wouldn't become septic. So I had three surgeries within six weeks. And then, um, you know, the healing process and the emotional process and all of that stuff. But I was able to go back to work October 25. So mad woman said to me was August 12, men back to work. And that's when it kind of started hitting me like, this has been real, you know, and then I'm in the middle, they forced me into menopause. So we all know about that. So hot flashes, all that so I wallowed. I mean, I'm gonna be honest, I went through very many, you know, many stages of wobbling, and many, like, my husband would come and say, Get off the couch. Come on, let's go, go on wall, get up, get up, you know, like you, you're not gonna stay in this place. And I realized through both of those that, you know, everything's a choice and that I had to I had to choose not to wallow. So... Kimberly Hobbs In the world, the world would say you have every reason to wallow. I mean, look at what happened in your life. Right? You had, oh, you know, poorly saw. And wow, you went through a lot hunting, you went through a lot. So but there's more to this story. Because Lisa, you did see Beauty from Ashes, right? But how so? The Bible says, our present troubles are small, and they're not going to last very long, yet they produce for us, glory that vastly outweighs them, and will last forever. That's kind of like a capsule of your life. All of this time that you could have been wallowing and you had that choice, and you did wallow for a while. First Corinthians 417 Is that verse that God was producing a glory that is going to far outweigh what you went through. So you emphasize the choice because of the past two years of your life. You saw God's hand moving? How did you choose to follow God after the accident? What specifics? Can you share with the audience that allowed you to choose not to while into follow? God? Lisa Hathaway I mean, yeah, that's a very it's a very good question. I, I think after the accident, my when you have nothing left, and when you hit that rock bottom, I mean, of course, I had my family and, you know, but there was so many times they had no idea what to do. They had no idea what to say. Because you don't know what to say. Sometimes when someone is at that place where you have nothing left like I couldn't even walk to get out to walk towards a vehicle. Like it was so traumatic. And I started I set on my deck, and it's so crazy how God works and moves because right before the accident literally two days before the accident, we had just like refinish our deck. And I got all these fresh flowers and all this stuff. God knew he sees the end from the beginning, he knew that was going to be my safe haven of healing. And I said on that deck, and I would I would wash it, because you can't wallow and worship at the same time. Right? So I had to sit there and go, I know my God is faithful. I don't understand this. But he is so faithful. I have to choose to see his faithfulness in the situation. So I would find worship songs. And I doubt I had I created my own playlist called Soul lifter. And because it all lived my soul, and it spoke to the deepest parts of my heart. And it was like, it was like, God's just like, I'm here. I haven't left you. And so I started just to build on that. And it's like the joy and sorrow dance together. I was it was this the joy of the Lord that's unexplainable to the human eye. Because I had such joy. My husband told me, we've been married 20 years and he goes in those two moments. I've never seen you at so much peace. And I thought, what, why, what after all this happened? Because I pressed in so hard to Jesus, like I've never done before. Amen. When you do that, it it's a sweetness that you can't even can't even describe. So my level with the Lord, my intimacy with the Lord got so deep that I could not wallow. Like I could not wallow, because I was like, God's like I'm taking you. I'm allowing that truth. Yes, I'm allowing you. And it reminds me of like one of my scriptures that have spoke so much to me Habakkuk 317 through 18, even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines, even though the all of crop fails, and the fields like empty and barren, even though the flop sat in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in the God of my salvation, Yet I will rejoice. So, regardless of anything that happens when all the fields are gone, when everything is is just falling apart in your life. Yet I will rejoice. Kimberly Hobbs Amen. Amen. I love that. I love that. And we pray that that Scripture speaks to you ladies as well, if you're in the midst of something right now, and when you're on that slippery slope, and you might fall off of it, oh, God instructs us in His Word, give your burdens to the Lord and he's going to take care of you ladies. He's he's going to and that's what Lisa chose to do. She gave everything over to the Lord and chose not to wallow, but to worship God. And Psalm 5522 says he will not permit the godly to slip and fall. So when you're on that slope, ladies, and you're you're just trying to balance everything because the pain is so intense, or the the trial that you're going through is so burdensome. God says right here in Psalm 5522, to give your burdens to him. So Lisa, you found your value in God and praise God, you did. You lived to through two things where realistically the arrows were pointing that your life should be over. But God, by God, he chose and you saw that. So you started worshiping Him and you started thanking him for the good and what you saw you lived. So when you found your value in God by choosing him, Lisa, you didn't allow yourself to wallow anymore you chose and you chose well, God opened the door to give you a passion to work for him, which is this is the exciting part of the story, ladies is because now Lisa turned her life around through this and she chose to work for Jesus and serve Him with all of her heart. She helps the homeless she is working with the youth at church and she showed a way to articulate to others about their suffering in the valley. So God allowed her to turn all this for good. And Lisa, can you explain in your own way about how God doesn't leave us ever? There's ladies listening right now that feels so alone. In their hurting world, please share with them how he never leaves us. Lisa Hathaway Yes, I, you know, I think that you hit on a good point. I mean, we all, no matter how close you are to the Lord, or what our backgrounds are, there's times where we feel lonely as women. I mean, that's just, that's just human nature and the flesh part. And we're like, I'm lonely. I feel like I'm walking through whatever journey by myself. And, you know, God has spoke to me in a lot of ways. And I've journal a lot. And it was a visual that he gave me and I hold so tight to this. And I'm so thankful that he gave it to me that we're in a valley. And, you know, I've got kids and work in school. So he is I'm sitting on the bottom of the valley floor. It's like lay mud it but it is solid, that foundation, the bottom of the valley is solid. And I'm sitting, as I say, crisscross applesauce or Indian style. And Jesus is right beside me. crisscross applesauce. I'm like, Hey, Jesus, how you doing? He's like, I'm doing I'm doing good. I'm right here with you. Okay, well, you can go if you want to, because I'm gonna be here a while. It's been pretty dark the last couple of years. He's like, no, no, I'm not leaving you. But he's like, No, I'm not leaving you. I will sit with you, as long as I need to here to show you that I have never left you and I'm never going to forsake you. And he just sat there. And we're just carrying on conversation. And then all of a sudden, he looks over at me. And he goes, It's time. Let's go is Tom, you've been here long enough. You said grabbed my hand. I was like, Oh, we're gonna climb up that we're gonna climb to the top of that mountain, or the top of this humongous Valley? You said, yeah. So I grabbed his hand, he keeps looking at me and goes, I've got you, my daughter. I've got you, my daughter. I haven't left you. I haven't left you. I'm like, Jesus, this is tough. Come on. Because what I have for you, on the top of this is far greater than this valley floor. And so it is something that in our suffering, there is beauty. But you have to open your eyes to see it. We get so laser focused on what's wrong in our lives. And we got to open our eyes to see that God is in the smallest of things. You know, feathers are a big thing for me. I saw 91 for and it's a huge thing for me. And I would walk downtown where I live and feathers were just falling. And I'm like, Where are these coming from? And God's like, I see you. I've got you. And this is what when I wasn't driving and I was walking because I needed I had my worship music on. I'm sobbing my eyes out and working through the grief and trauma and like, why is this happening? And God just like his promises are so true. And he is so faithful, and the kindness and the gentleness. So whatever story you have whatever you're walking through, even when I was walking through the breast cancer, God has taken the scales off my eyes to even see myself differently. Because this is a battle and God chose to save me from this says stories are different. But I cannot like doorman not to worship Him. Because He faced he saved me twice. So God's like I have something so much greater for you. And so I have to speak I have to use it for His glory. And I'm just I'm so excited to challenge because suffering is beautiful. I know it sounds really weird. But suffering can be so beautiful because I wouldn't be where I'm at today. If I didn't have suffering. I wouldn't have the intimacy if I didn't have suffering. So yes, you can choose not to wallow, but you get up each day and go I'm gonna make a choice to worship the God in Jesus who died for me. Kimberly Hobbs I love that. I love that and you did you chose to worship and you looked for God to show you to show you that way and he did and ladies, when you are wishing that someone would just be there to show you the way you know we all look for our help in different ways. You know, some look to Doctor some look to different people. Ladies look up and worship the Lord just as Lisa was sharing from her heart her life changed when she chose worship. So when you're looking for someone to show you the way A God's word is there to do so he will show you the way through His Word. The Lord says, I will give you along the best pathway for your life I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise and walk watch over you. He says that to us, ladies. So if you open the Word and you worship Him through the word, he's going to advise you through the word he's going to watch over you and tell you how to get out of the wallowing in the situation that you're in at Psalms 32 Eight, God is our God forever. And just like Lisa was sharing about crisscross applesauce, God was there and said, No, I'm never leaving you. I'm never leaving you as she sat there on the ground. He is our God forever, ladies, forever and ever. He will guide us until we die. That's Psalm 4814. All the scriptures are right there in his word for us to grab hold up. So are you going to allow him? Are you going to allow him access into your heart and not block him by wallowing in your pity? Will you choose him Ladies, don't choose pity choose to worship him as we were just praying for all of you ladies listening in today, Lisa and I both had that on our prayer heart that you are going to choose well. And when you want to recognize God's presence, ladies, worship Him, worship him. Come let us worship him out, bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our God our maker, because He is our God. And we are the people he watches over. We are the flock under his care that Psalm 9095, six and seven. I don't know about you, but I can't even contain the joy. And if you hear in Lisa's voice, she can contain the Joy because she chose correctly ladies. So come close to God and He is going to come close to you. That's James for eight. So I just asked Lisa. Lisa, do you have a word that you just want to share? In the last 30 seconds? With the ladies? What can you just give them to take away today as your final word to them? Lisa Hathaway I think I would just have to say, you know, God is a God of redemption. He's a God of kindness, a God of love. And I just challenge you to just look to Him. And you will absolutely see the beauty coming from the ashes of whatever your story is. Because he is so good. Kimberly Hobbs That is so wonderful. He is so good lady so good. One more verse to leave you with. I love just pouring scripture out. But God says Call me when you're in trouble. And I will rescue you. And you will give me glory that Psalm 55 Don't we all want to glorify God. And look at Lisa right now all of what she experienced in her life. And this verse is so true in her life too, because now she's given all the glory to God. She's here sharing her story of how God brought her through because she didn't choose to wallow, she chose to worship Him. And we just pray that you'll choose worship ladies worship God, and you will give Him the glory. He says that in his word. So as we close out, ladies, we are a ministry of women here. Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer, Spartacus) joins us this week to share the lessons learned and different obstacles she faced pursuing a career acting in Hollywood after growing up in the completely different world of apartheid stricken South Africa. Lesley attributes her upbringing and environment in South Africa for her edge, strong attitude, and self preservation that's helped her throughout her career on hit shows like Spartacus and Lucifer. We also talk about how actors get painted as villains for leaving a series, the importance of fitness in her life, and the self indulgence of mental wellness that some cultures aren't afforded.
