Imagine being unjustly imprisoned for months, watching your family and people suffer, and asking the piercing question: "O God, where art thou?" The revelations given to Joseph Smith in the darkest dungeon of his life are some of the most beautiful and powerful in all scripture. Summary: In this profound episode, we explore the transcendent revelations of Doctrine and Covenants 121, 122, and 123, written from the confines of Liberty Jail. D&C 121: The Power of Righteousness. We delve into Joseph's heartfelt plea, "How long shall thy hand be stayed?" The Lord answers with a staggering lesson: authority and power are inseparably connected with the principles of righteousness. We analyze the fatal trap of "unrighteous dominion"—covering our sins, gratifying pride, and exercising compulsion—which instantly causes the heavens to withdraw. Crucially, we learn the six principles of Godly Influence: persuasion, long-suffering, gentleness, meekness, love unfeigned, and kindness. This section is a master class in Christlike leadership. D&C 122: Eternal Perspective in Suffering. The Lord reassures Joseph: "My son, peace be unto thy soul." He validates every trial Joseph has faced, from false accusations to the "jaws of hell," and promises that "all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good." This section confirms that the "Son of Man hath descended below them all," granting Him perfect knowledge to comfort us in our extremities. D&C 123: The Duty to Record. Finally, we discuss the duty to collect a "catalog of catastrophes" detailing the Saints' sufferings and abuses. This was not for vengeance, but to "leave the whole nation without excuse" and to help those who are "kept from the truth because they know not where to find it." The lesson culminates with the principle of total effort: "cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God." Call-to-Action: What principle from D&C 121 is helping you the most right now? Share your thoughts in the comments below! Niall talks to Ilse Zoerb. They instantly click and are both super goofy, joking about her name, accent and even Niall's dead grandmother. We even find a mutual appreciation for the TLC channel. Check out her favourite TLC show here. Ilse helped her parents move to Vietnam at the end of 2016 while Trump was taking office. She got caught in the Saigon vortex and is grateful for it.Ilse is a creator of things, having studied Movement in her native US. Since moving to Saigon she tried out stand up comedy before exploring Drag as the character Colonel Hai Minh, performing in several shows and also works with Dragonfly Theatre. Instead of talking about the arts scene in Saigon that they are both a part of, for some unknown reason Niall and Ilse get very excited to talk about urban planning in Saigon and the improved road network! Justin Bieber BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Justin Bieber has had an intriguing few days filled with business pivots, headline-grabbing social media activity, and a rare musical moment. On Friday, June 6, he unveiled a bold new monochromatic look and posted a string of moody selfies to Instagram, tagging his newly-launched clothing brand SKYLRK. The singer lounged in rich blue hues—oversized hoodie, leggings, and classic white socks—offering followers a peek into his casual side, all while watching sports with a friend. This SKYLRK launch is turning heads for more than its style. The brand steps in right as Bieber publicly and dramatically cut ties with Drew House, his previous fashion label. In an April Instagram Story, Bieber urged fans not to support Drew House, declaring it no longer represented him or his family. Notably, his wife Hailey Bieber was involved in SKYLRK's design process, according to Page Six, even teasing her favorite jacket on Instagram before the story expired. The details of SKYLRK remain elusive—the website is password-protected and the Instagram account is virtually empty—so, for now, speculation swirls as to the label's aesthetic and market ambitions. Beyond fashion, Justin Bieber's music catalogue continues to be big business. Hipgnosis Songs Management acquired Bieber's entire song catalogue in January 2023, with this asset still making headlines as Hipgnosis underwent further industry restructuring in 2025, according to Wikipedia. While Bieber himself has not commented recently, industry analysts continue to cite this massive deal among the modern music world's most significant rights sales. In terms of wealth, while he's not yet a billionaire, a recent YouTube analysis pegs his fortune around 350 million dollars in 2025—thanks to record sales, explosive tours, and investments in fashion and tech. On the public appearance front, Bieber was seen sharing sunset snaps in St Andrews, Scotland, earlier this week, giving the local Edinburgh beer a thumbs up—a gesture that generated over a million Instagram likes, reports The Scotsman. In a quieter musical moment, a short video posted on YouTube October 4 shows him playing the song Walking Away at the piano, showcasing his stripped-down artistry for fans and sparking plenty of nostalgic buzz. All in all, Bieber's week reveals a star doubling down on personal branding, selectively sharing glimpses of his music, and remaining front and center in both business dealings and the public imagination.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

Today's episode continues with visual thinking. We will learn more about the accelerated learning patterns with visual thinking and the Autistic phenotype. Autistic individuals create detailed mental "catalogs" of images and experiences, much like AI's data processing. We explore Temple Grandin's vivid descriptions of thinking in pictures, alongside early observations from Kanner (1943) and Asperger (1944), who noted autistic intelligence in their "little professors." The discussion covers weak central coherence theory & specific details drives exceptional learning but can complicate social interactions and broader contextual understanding. We will discuss the Autistic brain and machine learning, from pattern recognition to iterative refinement. Enhanced neural connections, like those linking the visual and frontal cortex, enable Autistic individuals to excel in tasks requiring precision, such as spotting subtle differences or memorizing facts. The episode contrasts this unique cognitive style with societal norms, advocating for embracing these strengths.Frith & Happe Weak Central Coherence https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10803-005-0039-0Visual Thinking part 1: Neurobiology & Autistic's Intense Inner World https://youtu.be/XqQ8jCvWzYc?si=3cEIm1omi0JUAKSKDaylight Computer Companyuse "autism" for $50 off athttps://buy.daylightcomputer.com/autismChroma Light Devicesuse "autism" for 10% discount athttps://getchroma.co/?ref=autism00:00 - Introduction to Visual Thinking; "movies" in the mind, and its impact on learning.02:02 - Historical Context of Autism References to Leo Kanner (1943) and Hans Asperger (1944) highlight early observations of autistic intelligence, with terms like "little professors" and "autism" (from "autos," meaning self)04:01 - Social Norms vs. Autistic Phenotype The autistic cognitive style contrasts with societal expectations, which favor fitting individuals into predictable "boxes" for evaluation and acceptance, making social integration and education challenging for autistic individuals.06:01 - Cataloging and AI Parallels; mental catalogs & specific images or experiences, similar to AI & machine learning, catalogs for categories08:46 Weak Central Coherence Theory; local, detail-oriented processing over global integration, enabling strengths like spotting hidden shapes10:28 Enhanced Perceptual Functioning, visual and auditory domains, allowing precise cataloging of sensory details, tasks & precision.12:02 Anecdotal Person Comparison & Associative Learning15:30 Pattern Recognition and Detail Focus18:26 Types of Visual Thinkers20:36 Neural Connectivity23:22 Perceptual Learning and Neuroplasticity; Accelerated learning27:04 AI and Autistic Brain Similarities33:35 Daylight Computer Company (and Daylight Kids !), use "autism" for $50 discount35:53 Chroma Light Devices, use "autism" for 10% discount38:59 Don't underestimate this Autistic Phenotype.X: https://x.com/rps47586YT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGxEzLKXkjppo3nqmpXpzuAemail: info.fromthespectrum@gmail.com
Nick is joined once again by TV critic Dan Fienberg from The Hollywood Reporter for a lively breakdown of the Emmy Awards, from the winners who deserved it to the surprises no one saw coming. They also wade into the latest chaos from the Big Brother house and review new shows, including the Netflix drama Black Rabbit with Jude Law and Jason Bateman and a revealing new documentary about Charlie Sheen. Esmeralda Leon jumps in later for a lighter turn as she and Nick marvel at one of the strangest mail-order catalogs ever printed. The Best of Collections Etc. is packed with bizarre inventions, unnecessary gadgets, and a few items so inappropriate they leave Nick and Esma equal parts horrified and hysterical. [Ep 388]

Do you ever catch yourself treating screens like contraband—tolerated in tiny doses, never to be openly celebrated? Ash Brandin, author of Power On: Managing Screen Time for the Benefit of the Whole Family, urges us to view screens as morally neutral and to focus on how they can serve the whole family's needs. In this episode, Ash shares their “Screen Time ABCs”: Access that adapts to context rather than rigid caps, Behavior as neutral data rather than blame, and Content choices that create better stopping points. They offer practical tactics like sticky-note reminders for Minecraft, reducing scarcity with predictable access and occasional “yes days,” using body doubling for schoolwork, and setting YouTube Kids to Approved Content Only to eliminate ads and algorithms. Ash also addresses AI, encouraging us to teach kids digital literacy and vetting skills rather than fear.Their perspective replaces guilt with guidance, helping families connect through technology instead of fighting against it. In this conversation with Brave Writer Director of Publishing Dawn Smith, we explore practical ways to sustain a teen's love of books: continuing read-alouds, using buddy-reading systems with sticky-note annotations, deciding when a movie should come before (or after) the book, and leveraging picture books, audiobooks, and graphic adaptations as scaffolds into harder texts. In 480 BC, following the fall of Thermopylae, the Greek fleet withdrew from Artemisium and regrouped at Salamis. At the same time, Xerxes advanced through Boeotia virtually unopposed, while Athens prepared for evacuation under the so-called Decree of Themistocles. Ancient sources speak of a Persian attempt to plunder Delphi, but modern scholarship generally regards this as later propaganda intended to protect the sanctuary's reputation. At Salamis, the Greek alliance faced difficult choices. Many Peloponnesian commanders favored retreat to the Isthmus, but Themistocles argued successfully for battle in the straits. His strategy, coupled with a ruse that compelled Xerxes to commit his fleet, brought the Persians into waters where their numbers offered little advantage. Among the notable figures at Salamis was Artemisia of Halicarnassus, whose role Herodotus highlights with particular interest. The Battle of Salamis was a turning point in the Greco-Persian Wars. Though the conflict was far from over, the outcome would decide the course of the war going forward.*Contents:*00:00 After Thermopylae and Artemisium00:45 Persians Passing through Delphi03:55 The Themistocles Decree12:05 Preparing for the Persians14:09 Catalog of Ships18:45 Evacuating Athens21:51 The Sack of Athens27:14 Debating with Themistocles 37:20 The Persians Arrive at Salamis50:26 The Battle of Salamis01:07:40 Aftermath of Salamis01:09:58 Thank You and PatronsSupport the show

My first guest on Seven Million Bikes is JK Hobson. As a finalist in the 2018 Vietnam Comedy Competition JK is known by many in Saigon as a stand-up, but is a man of many talents. We had so much to talk about I've split this first episode into two parts.Growing up in New York, JK moved to LA with his “fairly well known” thrash-metal band, Crisis. After Crisis split and he returned to University, JK initially came to Vietnam on a study abroad program in 2015, returning in 2016 on a Fulbright Scholarship. He went on to co-found Saigon Funny People, regularly hosting open mic nights and performing stand-up comedy. JK now writes for City Pass Guide, Saigoneer and TaleCity, has appeared on Vietnamese TV AND teaches English. The main questions I'll be asking JK is ‘What do you not do? And where do you find the time?'Part 2Moving forward to 2015 when JK first came to Vietnam we talk about his life here, speaking Vietnamese and why he loves it here. Do you ever wish your homeschool week started with momentum instead of Monday drag? We've found that small, doable invitations right at the start of the week prime kids for curiosity, competence, and follow-through. Think five minutes of inspiration that launches hours of self-directed learning—no elaborate prep required. In our work with families, three tiny shifts consistently flip the “on” switch for kids: cozy learning spaces, gathering the world into the home, and playful comparison that sharpens thinking. In this episode, we share kid-friendly prompts you can use right away: build a “hidey hole” (a cozy, distraction-light nook) to make reading and copywork inviting; curate a rotating Nature Table to grow observation, vocabulary, and seasonal awareness; and try “Movie Twins” to compare an original film with its remake, strengthening analytic thinking and family conversation. We show how five-minute Monday cues, paired with simple tools like clipboards, lamps, and labels, generate ownership and momentum all week long.Resources:Fall class registration is open! We talk about nature as a powerful teacher, the role of interest-driven writing (yes, Minecraft counts!), and the challenges—and opportunities—of raising kids in an age of AI.Meredith's story is candid, moving, and deeply relatable for anyone weighing the value of school versus the joy of learning. The Sears Catalog Was a Secret Weapon Against Jim Crow. The KKK Tried to Destroy It. In the latest episode of Trey's Table, we dive into one of the most fascinating and overlooked stories of economic resistance. For African Americans in the segregated South, the Sears, Roebuck mail-order catalog was more than just a book of products—it was a source of dignity. It allowed people to shop for quality goods without facing the degradation, discrimination, and violence of racist store owners. This empowerment didn't go unnoticed. The Ku Klux Klan, threatened by this challenge to the racial and economic order, launched a massive smear campaign. They organized boycotts, held public catalog burnings, and spread the false rumor that Sears was a Black-owned company in a desperate attempt to scare away white customers. Tune in to Episode 347 to learn: ➡️ How the catalog broke the back of the exploitative sharecropper system. ➡️ The details of the KKK's nationwide boycott campaign. ➡️ How Sears quietly worked to protect its Black customers. ➡️ What this history tells us about economics, race, and resistance. This is a story of how everyday acts of commerce can become profound acts of defiance. Listen to EPISODE 347 now! Link in my bio.
