Last week, I got a text message from my friend Michelle, who works at the National Gallery of Art. “Lunch tomorrow or Thursday?” followed by “Come see the movie in Little Beasts. It starts at the top of every hour. I would love to discuss it with you.” Not only was Michelle one of the first people I met when I first visited DC in 2014, since then, she's become a close friend and the National Gallery has come to be my happy place in DC. In fact, some of the best art and photography shows I've ever seen, including Sally Mann: A Thousand Crossings (Catalog), Gordon Parks: The New Tide, 1940-1950 (Catalog), Outliers and American Vanguard Art (Catalog), The 70s Lens, and Mark Rothko: Paintings on Paper (Catalog), to name just a few, have all been at the National Gallery. I've also learned about artists I'd never heard of before, like Rachel Whiteread, Philip Guston, James Castle, and Elizabeth Catlett, among others. And in nearly every case, when I've had the chance to walk through a show with Michelle, through her knowledge and experience of art and materials, I've come away with a deeper understanding and a greater appreciation of the nuances of both art and artists.CONNECT WITH MEWebsite: https://jefferysaddoris.com  Instagram: @jefferysaddorisEmail: talkback@jefferysaddoris.comSUBSCRIBESubscribe to Almost Everything with Jeffery Saddoris in your favorite podcast app. You can also subscribe to my newsletter on Substack.

As podcasters we kind of have to be obsessed with what's next. It's way too easy to get stuck in the churn of what's happening right now, and we have to focus on the next big guest, your next recording date, that next launch and the product you'll have next year. That's part of being a podcaster and business owner and being a high achiever. You always have to be looking around corners and figuring out what's next before your competition does. It can be really hard to get out of this mindset, because it's so critical to the success of most parts of our lives, but for most podcasters I know, that's distracting you from the treasure trove of what you've already created. In this episode we're talking about why your back catalog matters, organizing your archive, repurposing, and how to effectively market your past episodes for the future growth of your podcast.

To support you in your job search, I want to point you to a few episodes from the back catalog that offer practical tools and strategies to help you navigate this transition. Jeremy also returned to the podcast more recently to talk about how job seekers can use generative AI tools like ChatGPT to improve résumés, write better outreach messages, and streamline the job search. Along those lines, Ryan Dickerson, an executive career coach, joined me to discuss how AI can support career transitions, especially for experienced professionals looking to pivot or reenter the workforce. These won't be the standard 15 minute surface level interviews that exist solely for someone to pimp their product. Following in the footsteps of Joe Rogan and Lex Fridman, I plan to go deep. I expect each interview to last at least 2 hours if not 3. We'll get into the guest's personal life, gaming history, and how they got into publishing RPG products. Then we will get into the ins and out of publishing, so you can learn from their experience.Ideally I'd like for these interviews to serve as a motivational video series to help encourage more people in the hobby to publish their own stuff. I plan to get into some technical details so we can demystify the experience, and so you'll see that you can also do it with a little hard work and determination.I hope you enjoy it!By Popular demand, here is the link to my new Analog Mancave Discord Server!https://discord.gg/RHxTCq3mzTHere's the link to my first Substack post!https://open.substack.com/pub/analogmancave/p/joethelawyers-analog-mancave-has?r=4ewp0k&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=trueMembers now get early access to videos now! Building an art career with intention doesn't always start with a plan. Sometimes it starts with a gut feeling that something isn't working. That was true for Noelle Phares, who left behind a structured science career to follow her creative instincts—eventually leading to a solo museum exhibition and a thriving, self-directed art business. In this episode (part 1 of 2), host Alyson Stanfield talks to Noelle about how she transitioned from environmental data science into full-time painting, and how her rigorous research background continues to shape her studio practice. The conversation centers around 2024 solo show Tracking Time at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art—how it came together, what she learned from the proposal process, and why she approaches every exhibition as a fully developed project. She also shares her mindset around selling art, connecting with collectors, and painting for impact. This conversation is rich with insight about: Leaving a traditional career to follow a creative calling. The research process behind Tracking Time and why Noelle selected 7 distinct locations along the Colorado River. Working with museums and curators while maintaining your artistic voice. Designing exhibitions that tell cohesive, layered stories. Balancing environmental messaging with visual beauty to draw people in. Creating work that connects with buyers and retains meaning. Noelle's blend of structure, vision, and heart makes this an inspiring listen for any artist seeking to step into a more intentional, expansive chapter. Stay tuned for part 2, where we'll dive into how she structures her business, manages a team, markets her work, and approaches gallery relationships.

Nicole and Diana discuss citing digitized records from FamilySearch. Nicole explains that FamilySearch has billions of digitized records that can be attached, downloaded, or added to a research log. They emphasize the importance of precise source citations. Diana illustrates the challenge of citing digitized microfilm records, using an example from Russell County, Alabama's Orphan's Court Docket. She explains that the same record can be accessed through "Images" or the FamilySearch Catalog, resulting in different image numbers and citations. Diana discusses how viewing the same record through different "image group views" changes the image number and citation, even with the same URL. She shares tips for creating clear FamilySearch citations, including citing the physical information, digital information with the full URL, and the original holder of the image. Diana also mentions how cutting off the URL before the question mark leads to a different view of the record. Nicole reiterates the importance of using both "Images" and the "Catalog" for complete research and emphasizes that clear source citations allow researchers to return to the source at any time. Listeners will learn how to properly cite digitized records on FamilySearch, navigate different views of the same records, and avoid confusion in their genealogical research.
