Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
The San Francisco Giants are in free fall. They're playing absolutely horrendous baseball, and they've slipped to two games out of the NL's final wild card position. Something needs to change, and the Giants decided to (finally) promote hot-hitting infielder David Villar ahead of today's game against the Diamondbacks. It would be hard to play any worse than the SF Giants played on this homestand. They were outplayed in all aspects of the game against three teams that came in below .500. Simply put, the Giants do not look like a competitive team right now, and there's plenty of blame to go around. Farhan Zaidi did not do enough on the position player side this offseason. The Giants' older position players have not gotten the job done. Gabe Kapler's staff takes some blame for the team's miserable defense and recent hitting. Villar represents a change in the right direction. The Giants need some young players who could be a part of the future start to emerge for this team. Veterans like Evan Longoria, Brandon Belt, and Brandon Crawford simply don't have much of a future here. It's a bit of a problem that the Giants are now tied up to Darin Ruf and Tommy La Stella, who have also been significant disappointments so far in 2022. They need more players like Villar to join the roster and be given a real opportunity. Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

There are many ways that people can influence others, from language patterns, emotional tone and resonance, understanding of human psychology, but there are 2 ways that influence can be exerted very powerfully over others that aren't talked about very often. If you're not mindful of these two things, you can easily give away your power to those wielding them, without even realizing it, diminishing your own power and corroding your own sense of who you are. Today, we're discussing Staying True to You – Not Falling Prey to Power Dynamics so you can avoid being unwittingly caught up in power dynamics. OUR NEW BASEBALL SEGMENT: Falling in Glove with Bobby Belt
Just because stocks are tumbling doesn't necessarily mean that all is lost. Sophisticated investors know how to use a down market to up their portfolio. Listen to the podcast to learn three ways that you can benefit from a falling market. 1. Pretend you're a farmer and harvest! Tax loss harvesting means selling stocks at a loss and matching that loss against capital gains to minimize capital gain taxes. No one likes to pay taxes, and no one likes stocks to lose value, but tax loss harvesting manages to lessen the negative blow of two potentially unpleasant situations. While savvy investors often use tax loss harvesting at the end of the fiscal year, you can implement this strategy anytime. 2. Take advantage of the stock sale. What does it mean when the market is oversold? Simply put, it means prices have dropped further than they probably should have. When the markets climb, investors who want to lock in their profits sell their stocks. If too many investors sell at once, the market drops; it is oversold. Turn this to your advantage, and talk to a licensed financial advisor about buying additional shares at the lower price. 3. Keep a large cash reserve. Some investors want every penny of their savings invested, thinking that means their money is working the hardest. However, if you don't have available cash to buy a bargain (see the point above), you might lose out when a buying opportunity presents itself. Note that a large cash reserve meant for investment is not an emergency fund. No need to get down about a down market, there are strategies that you can use to your advantage. Guest Biography Athletic from a young age, Katie always kept her body moving, participating in sports such as roller hockey, basketball, and even figure skating briefly. The need to move was vital to her. After graduating high school and being out of sports, she found herself perplexed and dove into running and watching what she ate. This quickly developed into an unhealthy obsession with being “skinny,” which led to an eating disorder and severe body dysmorphia. Luckily, through a scary and sudden discovery of scoliosis, Katie was informed she had to stop partaking in all impact activities. Frustrated with the need to move her body, her doctor recommended Yoga – An unexpected turn into what is now the origin story of her career in health and fitness. She fell in love with how Yoga empowered her to find love and strength within herself, discovering and teaching various forms of it. Her energy quickly translated into her classes, deviating them from your standard practices and making them the most sought-after in San Diego. Her magnetic energy quickly caught the attention of Dr. Michael Wasilisin, creator of MoveU, who insisted she shares her talents with the world. Falling right into the health and fitness world, like she always dreamed of, Katie is currently one of MoveU's leading instructors, a model, coach, and assistant teacher at several other brands, including her recent On-Demand classes via Bosu Ball. Most birds are mostly waterproof. Their feathers, aided by oil from preen glands, keep them pretty watertight. So why do birds avoid flying during rainstorms? It may have more to do with the air than with the water. Rainstorms tend to occur when atmospheric pressure is low. Air in a low-pressure system is less dense. But it's dense air that gives birds the aerodynamic lift they need to take wing. Falling rain and high humidity make air even less dense. Many birds perch and wait out a storm. Afterward, birds once again take to the skies. More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
