Economist George Economou joins us today to share why stocks and gold are soaring in the modern global market. He talks about his global outlook on markets amid rising economic and geopolitical uncertainty, AI-driven growth narratives, stock buybacks, and deep investor anxiety fueled by a multipolar world. We also chat on trade tensions, and escalating conflicts across the globe. He explained how falling interest rates continue to prop up U.S. and European stocks despite stretched valuations, why gold is surging as central banks and investors hedge geopolitical risk, and why tariffs are unlikely to succeed economically over the long run. We discuss... George Economou outlined his background as a Greece-based macroeconomist, financial consultant, academic, and economics educator. Rising tariffs, shifting trade policies, and the growing independence of BRICS nations are major sources of macro instability. Europe is particularly vulnerable, with echoes of pre-2008 risks despite strong headline equity performance. U.S. equity markets are being driven by AI-led profit growth, excess liquidity, and falling interest rates rather than pure fundamentals. European equity strength is largely attributed to corporate stock buybacks rather than underlying economic health. Falling interest rates globally were highlighted as a key driver pushing investors away from bonds and into equities. Gold prices were said to be surging due to geopolitical uncertainty and aggressive central bank accumulation, especially by BRICS nations. Geopolitical risks involving Russia–Ukraine, the Middle East, and China–Taiwan are central drivers of market anxiety. Tariffs are a political tool aimed at reshoring U.S. production, but one that economic theory suggests will be inefficient long term. AI investment is comparable to early smartphone adoption, requiring heavy upfront spending before productivity gains become visible. CEOs' frustration with AI returns is linked to poor implementation rather than a lack of long-term potential. Extremely high global equity valuations are attributed to investors avoiding bonds and real estate due to unattractive risk-reward dynamics. Sustained market valuations is questioned, with the warning that expensive assets eventually decline when buyers step away. Week 16 of the 2025 NFL season is here, and the Missing the Point crew unloads on one of the most chaotic weeks the league has seen in years. Dave, Mike, Bobby, and Rayshawn break down the fallout from a Week 15 that completely reshaped the playoff picture and may have permanently altered multiple franchises. It starts with the injuries. The ACL gods showed no mercy. Patrick Mahomes is done for the season, ending the Chiefs’ playoff hopes in brutal fashion. Micah Parsons goes down, ripping the heart out of Green Bay’s defense. Davante Adams, Devin Neal, and several other key contributors leave games early, forcing contenders to scramble as the season enters its final stretch. The crew debates whether this was bad luck, bad field conditions, or just the inevitable price of a longer and more violent NFL season. Then comes the moment that broke everyone’s brain. Philip Rivers is back. The Colts are handing the offense to a quarterback who retired years ago, and the crew reacts with disbelief, laughter, and real football analysis. Is this desperation or genius. Can Rivers still read defenses. Can he survive a hit. And what does this say about the Colts’ confidence in the rest of their roster. From there, the episode hits the Cowboys’ slow collapse, the Chiefs being mathematically cooked, the Ravens living dangerously on the playoff bubble, and the Panthers, Texans, and Steelers trying to survive December football. The Patriots winning streak came to an end, thanks to a dreadful defenseive preformance in the second half vs the Bills, while the Broncos continue to look like the most complete team in the league. The episode closes with a full breakdown of the Real BK Top 10 Power Rankings heading into Week 16. Texans, Chargers, Jaguars, 49ers, Bears, Seahawks, Patriots, Bills, Rams, and Broncos. Every spot is debated, every rise and fall explained, and no team is safe from criticism. If you want real NFL conversations, sharp humor, and power rankings that actually react to what happens on the field, this episode delivers. Today we are sharing an episode from a brand new podcast launched on the RQ Network, Burned by a Paper Sun.Burned by a Paper Sun is a brand new, chilling, horror anthology podcast from the same brilliant creators of The Gentleman From Hell, Maeltopia and The Sleep Wake Cycle. In Burned by a Paper Sun, shadows come in a thousand shapes—some drawn long beneath a dying sky, others drifting and lost beneath a wandering cloud. Yet one certainty has always remained: every shadow must have a caster. But what if that isn't true? What if darkness could stand on its own? In this first episode William is a rational man, but even rational men are left broken by the Great Darkness of 1999. Despite his sceptical outlook, he is haunted by dreams of the most horrible and macabre variety. Most of all, he is terrorised by a single harrowing figure - the Elevator Man.Introduction and outro by Billie HindleYou can listen to the next episode of Burned by a Paper Sun by clicking on this link, or by searching for Burned by a Paper Sun wherever you find podcasts, or on the Rusty Quill website--Cast:Written by Mark AnzaloneEdited by Walker KornfeldSound mastering by Steven J. A rare split is opening inside the Federal Reserve. Sonu Varghese, VP, Global Macro Strategist, and Ryan Detrick, Chief Market Strategist at Carson Wealth, dig into what that tension really means as growth projections move higher and rate cuts keep coming. They break down the widening gap between market expectations and the Fed's own outlook, the mixed signals coming from the latest dot plot, and what dissenting votes reveal about how policymakers are reading inflation and a softening labor market. At the same time, they look to the areas gaining strength, including cyclicals, global markets, commodities and the latest AI rotation, to understand how a divided Fed is shaping positioning as investors look ahead to 2026.Key Takeaways:• The Fed is diverging internally: The dot plots and dissents show widening disagreement on how aggressively to cut• Markets are pricing a different path: Traders expect more easing than the Fed, especially beyond 2026• Growth projections are rising: The Fed now sees stronger 2025–2026 GDP despite ongoing cuts• Labor-market signals are weakening: Falling quits and slowing hiring increase pressure on policymakers• Cyclical strength continues: Industrials, materials, and developed international markets are pushing the rally forwardJump to:0:00 - Cold Open, Holidays, And Setup2:45 - AI Leadership Rotates And Market Breadth8:50 - Cyclicals Lead, Global Rally Builds14:40 - Europe, Developed Markets, And Industrials20:55 - IPOs, Sentiment, And Bull Market Signals27:00 - The Fed Cuts: Dots, Dissent, And Markets35:20 -Neutral Rate, Long-Run Inflation, And 202641:50 - Press Conference Takeaways And Labor Risks48:10 - Gold Breakout And Commodities Pulse53:30 - Labor Market: JOLTS, Quits, And WagesConnect with Ryan:• LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryandetrick/• X: https://x.com/RyanDetrickConnect with Sonu:• LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sonu-varghese-phd/• X: https://x.com/sonusvarghese?lang=enQuestions about the show? Click on the link in the show notes and we will talk to you on December 16. On today's show we are talking about something that has happened in the macro economy that is not getting much attention. You have probably noticed that prices at the gasoline pump have been falling. That is usually welcome news for consumers. Politicians will probably be quick to take credit for this. Prices in the oil futures market are set by a combination of supply and demand. The futures price for crude oil is what gets the most attention. Today the WTI intermediate price for January delivery is $57.44 per barrel compared with $72 at the start of this year. Whenever something happens you have ask yourself whether you are looking at the cause or the effect. Falling prices at the pump are effect and not cause. The cause is further upstream in the economy. Falling gasoline consumption reflects falling demand which reflects economic weakness. You're not going to get any politician to come out an use the word recession. That's going to guarantee a loss during the midterm elections which are now only a year away. Instead, they will trumpet a victory of lower gasoline prices at the pump which are helping ordinary households. The American consumer has suffered very real loss of purchasing power since the pandemic. Most of this has been the result of the handling of the pandemic and the government response to the pandemic. Labor shortages in the wake of the pandemic did not translate into greater purchasing power for the average consumer. -------------**Real Estate Espresso Podcast:** Spotify: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://open.spotify.com/show/3GvtwRmTq4r3es8cbw8jW0?si=c75ea506a6694ef1) iTunes: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-real-estate-espresso-podcast/id1340482613) Website: [www.victorjm.com](http://www.victorjm.com) LinkedIn: [Victor Menasce](http://www.linkedin.com/in/vmenasce) YouTube: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](http://www.youtube.com/@victorjmenasce6734) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/realestateespresso](http://www.facebook.com/realestateespresso) Email: [podcast@victorjm.com](mailto:podcast@victorjm.com) **Y Street Capital:** Website: [www.ystreetcapital.com](http://www.ystreetcapital.com) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital](https://www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital) Instagram: [@ystreetcapital](http://www.instagram.com/ystreetcapital)

Menopause, which typically occurs between age 44 and 55, marks the natural end of menstruation and fertility, and is confirmed after 12 consecutive months without menstruation A 2025 study presented at The Menopause Society Annual Meeting found that women who experienced earlier menopause and had weaker heart function showed more signs of brain aging Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, and Alzheimer's affects women nearly twice as often as men Falling estrogen and progesterone levels affect every system — blood vessels stiffen, sleep and mood fluctuate, and metabolism slows Menopause is not the end of vitality — it's a biological reset. One story involves new University of California San Diego report showing incoming freshmen lacking basic middle-school-level math skills, which he says reflects a much deeper national problem in education. Sasse and Benson also discussed Harvard's stunning grade inflation and the rise in students at elite schools claiming disabilities to gain academic advantages. Finally, Sasse and Benson discussed the current overcorrections in NIL and the college football playoff system need to be reined in to restore balance so that college sports does not remain a "junior professional sports league." Frequent police advisories, daily news stories, a repeated “Add, Check, Tell” mantra – Singaporeans should be better at recognising scams by now. Yet many continue to fall prey to scammers who keep adapting and refining their approach. So far in 2025, more than 31,200 cases of scams have been reported, with victims losing over $750.3 million. Last year, the amount lost to scams crossed the $1 billion mark. In this episode of The Usual Place podcast, I speak with Mr Jeffery Chin, deputy director of the Singapore Police Force’s Scam Public Education Office. Set up in 2023, the office is staffed by police officers, civilian officers and psychologists who work closely together to drive anti-scam public education efforts. We’ll discuss how scams have evolved over the years, what makes a person an “ideal” scam victim, and why people end up becoming money mules. Highlights (click/tap above): 1:47Jeffrey’s personal brushes with scams and having nearly lost £500 9:59 Why young people fall for job scams 21:22 How Jeffrey exposed a love scam in seconds using a simple trick in reverse image search 24:05 When victims get their self-image threatened 28:59 Is there anti-scam fatigue? 32:56 Why sharing information about scams is a form of community service Follow The Usual Place podcast on IG: https://www.instagram.com/theusualplacepodcast Follow Natasha on LinkedIn: https://str.sg/v6DN Filmed by: Studio+65 Edited by: Teo Tong Kai, Eden Soh and Chen Junyi Executive producers: Danson Cheong, Elizabeth Khor & Ernest Luis Editorial producer: Lynda Hong Follow The Usual Place Podcast and get notified for new episode drops every Thursday: Channel: https://str.sg/5nfm Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/9ijX Spotify: https://str.sg/cd2P YouTube: https://str.sg/theusualplacepodcast Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg SPH Awedio app: https://www.awedio.sg --- Follow more ST podcast channels: All-in-one ST Podcasts channel: https://str.sg/wvz7 Get more updates: http://str.sg/stpodcasts --- Get The Straits Times app, which has a dedicated podcast player section: The App Store: https://str.sg/icyB Google Play: https://str.sg/icyX -- #tup #tuptrSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Over the last few days, the rupee exchange rate has fallen below ₹90 a dollar and has largely stayed at that level. Now, with Parliament running, a lot of the discourse on this has been political. However, from a policy level, it is critical to understand the economics behind the fall. Why is the rupee falling? Is it falling worse than other currencies? Does the fall hurt or help the Indian economy? And finally, is this a cause for alarm? Shoot us a Text.Episode #1215: Today we break down why monthly payments keep climbing despite improving fundamentals, VinFast's shrinking U.S. footprint as it pivots overseas, and VaynerMedia's Anti-Trend Report showing why trend-chasing is officially dead in 2026.Show Notes with links:New-vehicle payments hit a November record at $760, but underneath the headline, several affordability pressures are actually starting to ease. Softer interest rates and strong used-vehicle values are helping cushion buyers as the market normalizes into year-end.Rates dipped to 6.1% and robust used values are keeping trade-in equity near historic highs.Dealer profits stayed steady at $2,161 per vehicle, showing margin stability. However, negative equity rose to 27% of all trades and lease expirations are down 15% YoY and 50% vs. 2023“How aggressively manufacturers choose to adjust discounting and promotional activity during December will be critical in shaping the close of 2025.” said J.D. Power's Thomas King.VinFast's retreat from the U.S. market is accelerating as its retail network falls below two dozen active stores. Falling sales, stalled product plans, and shifting global priorities are prompting dealers to exit while the brand refocuses on markets where demand is stronger.Holman's North Carolina store — VinFast's first U.S. franchise — ends sales Dec. 31, marking the third dealer exit in six months.U.S. registrations fell 57% through October, even as overall EV sales grew 11% in the same period.Several listed stores show no inventory or are “coming soon,” and many active rooftops have 15 or fewer vehicles in stock.“Given the tariff situation and the instability in the EV market, we just need to see how that settles before we push hard in the U.S.,” said VinFast chairwoman Thuy Thu Le.VaynerMedia's new Anti-Trend Report argues that social trends are collapsing faster than ever, making 2026 the year brands stop chasing virality and start pursuing genuine relevance. With algorithms fragmenting attention, emotional connection becomes the new competitive advantage. The report says trend fatigue is accelerating — trends now fade 14x faster than they used to, and 1/3 of consumers think brands “jumping on viral trends” is embarrassing.Platforms are blurring: TikTok layouts show up on Instagram, Facebook-style text posts appear everywhere — meaning content format matters more than platform identity.Audiences expect authenticity, not broadcasts; brands must create two-way social conversations, not passive content streams.“In 2026, the brands that win won't be those who shout the loudest, but those who show up the most real.” — Allan Blair, SVP & Head of Strategy, VaynerMediaThank you to today's sponsor, Mia. If you keep telling yourself you want to start a side hustle, but weeks keep passing with no real movement, there's a reason. And it's not a lack of ideas, time, or talent. It's the silent mindset traps that play out in the background and quietly keep you stuck at the starting line. After interviewing more than 170 side hustle heroes, I've heard the same patterns again and again. Today we break down 7 of the most common thinking mistakes that stop people from ever getting traction: Waiting to feel ready Overlearning instead of acting Staying busy with low-impact tasks Underestimating the value of your skills Comparing your Day 1 to someone else's Year 5 Believing confidence must come first Falling into the all-or-nothing time trap You'll learn how each one shows up, how to spot it in yourself, and what small, practical shift gets you moving. By the end of this episode, you'll know exactly which mindset has been holding you back, and the next step that will move your side hustle forward today. Do you like what you're hearing? Consider giving it a caffeinated thumbs up. We'd really appreciate it! Need a little (and sometimes big) push to start and stay focused to grow your side hustle? Economic Signals from Europe: Falling Energy, Rising Copper, Data Center Demand — Simon Constable — Constable reports from southern France that global economic indicators remain mixed: European energy prices have declined due to weak industrial demand signaling economic sluggishness, while copper prices surge driven by "green transition" infrastructure development and energy-intensive AI data center construction. Constable documents that copper demand is projected to increase sixfold by 2050, creating critical supply gaps and incentivizing dangerous copper wire theft from derelict properties, while China controls limited domestic production but maintains substantial contract claims on South American reserves rendering supply chains geopolitically vulnerable. 1954
