The life expectancy of Americans has fallen in recent years after a long period when it had been increasing. There are a number of factors which contribute to the fall. The Covid pandemic, with over 1m deaths, made a significant impact on lowering the average life expectancy. In comparison with other peer countries, the USA also did not return to pre-Covid levels at the same rate. However there are also other important factors driving this, namely gun deaths and drug deaths as a result of opioid overdoses. And another major contributor to lower life expectancy in the States is inequality in the US healthcare system. In this edition of The Inquiry Tanya Beckett explores why US life expectancy is falling. She hears from Jeremy Ney an adjunct professor at Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco and author of American Inequality, a data project that highlights US inequality and regional divides. Dr. Mark Rosenberg helped set up the Centre for Disease Control's National Centre for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) and is a key proponent of research that examines how to reduce gun violence. He explains how gun deaths among young people have a big influence on the average life expectancy numbers. Dr. Judith Feinberg, is a professor at West Virginia University School of Medicine - her experience of working with communities with high levels of opioid problems makes her an authority on the extent to which drug overdose deaths impact average life expectancy. Ellen Marra is a professor of health economics at Harvard University - she says that diseases such as cancer and cardio deaths are big factors in lower life expectancy, compared with the number of gun and opioid deaths. Reading 1 Sir 27:30—28:7 Wrath and anger are hateful things, yet the sinner hugs them tight. The vengeful will suffer the LORD's vengeance, for he remembers their sins in detail.Forgive your neighbor's injustice;then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.Could anyone nourish anger against anotherand expect healing from the LORD?Could anyone refuse mercy to another like himself, can he seek pardon for his own sins?If one who is but flesh cherishes wrath, who will forgive his sins?Remember your last days, set enmity aside;remember death and decay, and cease from sin!Think of the commandments, hate not your neighbor;remember the Most High's covenant, and overlook faults.Reading 2 Rom 14:7-9 Brothers and sisters:None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord;so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.For this is why Christ died and came to life, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.Gospel Mt 18:21-35 Peter approached Jesus and asked him,"Lord, if my brother sins against me,how often must I forgive? As many as seven times?" Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. That is why the kingdom of heaven may be likened to a kingwho decided to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the accounting,a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount. Since he had no way of paying it back, his master ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all his property,in payment of the debt. At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said,'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back in full.'Moved with compassion the master of that servantlet him go and forgave him the loan. When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servantswho owed him a much smaller amount. He seized him and started to choke him, demanding,'Pay back what you owe.'Falling to his knees, his fellow servant begged him,'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'But he refused. Instead, he had the fellow servant put in prisonuntil he paid back the debt. Now when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply disturbed, and went to their masterand reported the whole affair. His master summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant,as I had pity on you?'Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturersuntil he should pay back the whole debt. So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives your brother from your heart."

The upcoming hearing in the case between Binance and the SEC is a major event for the cryptocurrency industry. Binance is the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, and the SEC is the top securities regulator in the United States. If the SEC is successful in its case against Binance, it could have significant implications for the entire cryptocurrency industry. The sealed documents that are expected to be disclosed at the hearing could shed light on the SEC's case against Binance. The SEC has accused Binance of offering unregistered securities and operating an unregistered exchange. Binance has denied these allegations. If Binance is forced to close or significantly restrict its operations, it could have a major impact on the cryptocurrency market. Binance is a major source of liquidity for many cryptocurrencies. If Binance is unable to operate, it could lead to a decline in prices and trading volume. However, it is important to note that the SEC's case against Binance is still in its early stages. It is possible that the SEC could lose the case, or that Binance could reach a settlement with the SEC.BNB Chain's ecosystemBNB Chain is a blockchain platform that is powered by the Binance Coin (BNB) cryptocurrency. BNB Chain is one of the most popular blockchain platforms for decentralized applications (dapps). If Binance is forced to close or significantly restrict its operations, it could have a negative impact on the BNB Chain ecosystem. Binance is a major supporter of BNB Chain, and it provides a number of services that are essential to the platform's operation. However, it is important to note that the BNB Chain ecosystem is not entirely dependent on Binance. There are a number of other projects that are building on BNB Chain, and these projects could continue to operate even if Binance is forced to close.Who could benefit in the event of a Binance collapse panic? If Binance is forced to close or significantly restrict its operations, it could create opportunities for other cryptocurrency exchanges. However, it is important to note that a Binance collapse would likely have a negative impact on the entire cryptocurrency industry. In addition to other cryptocurrency exchanges, other projects that could benefit from a Binance collapse panic include:Decentralized exchanges (DEXes): DEXes are non-custodial exchanges that allow users to trade cryptocurrencies without having to deposit their funds with a third party. If Binance is forced to close, it could lead to an increase in the use of DEXes.Stablecoins: Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies that are pegged to the value of a fiat currency, such as the US dollar. Stablecoins could be seen as a safe haven asset in the event of a Binance collapse.Privacy coins: Privacy coins are cryptocurrencies that are designed to protect the privacy of users. Privacy coins could be seen as a more attractive option for users who are concerned about the security of their funds in the event of a Binance collapse. It is important to note that these are just a few examples of projects that could benefit from a Binance collapse panic. It is impossible to predict with certainty which projects will benefit the most.tuneshareGoogle it

This time on The Children's Hour we are falling into autumn in the northern hemisphere. We learn about equinox, and hear from 5th graders on learning different perspectives about Labor Day, Mexican Independence Day, and Columbus Day.
In this episode, we discuss some additions to the story that would help out a bunch. Enjoy!Summary/Topics:· 2:22 More accessible portkeys. Portkeys are effective, but they take too long to set up and aren't a quick us. They take time to set up and advanced planning. If you're running down an alley with snatchers on your tail, the last thing you're thinking of is a portkey. How convenient would it be to have a smaller device that can be used at moment's notice?· 7:13 Making quidditch pitches safer. Falling of your broom and falling to your death is a fairly likely outcome of quidditch, which we saw Harry do in the third book. If Dumbledore wasn't there, Harry might have gotten really hurt. Making charms that soften the field is a great innovation, or even just stationing wizard on the ground to make sure there are no kids freefalling through the air.· 14:42 More advanced security at Gringotts. In the first book, the goblin saw Harry's key and brough them to his vault. That seems so easy. A better system to would be to put more security in place. People would be scanning all those who enter the bank. They would have to prove their identity with veritaserum, then they would be taken to their vault.· 23:08 A secret list. A place for someone to keep their thoughts where no one could get to. Neville left a list of passwords on his bedside table, which is how Sirius got them and opened the tower. There is a lot of use for a device that would do this.· 25:29 Self-spelling wands. “We're no closer to catching Sirius Black than inventing self-spelling wands.” Arthur Weasley said that in the third book before the Ministry caught Sirius, so if they did that, why not self-spelling wands?Having anything you want to hear or say? Fan Girl - "falling (ft Elizabeth M Drummond)," a 2023 single on Mandatory Music Australian pop-punk outfit Fan Girl returns with another KEXP Song of the Day pick: "falling" featuring guest vocals from Elizabeth M. Drummond. “Lyrically, ‘falling' is about how the honeymoon period in a relationship is just the beginning. While it can be an electric and pleasurably nauseating period, it's not the best bit, and it's often not the real bit," the band told Jammer Zine. "We tracked ‘falling' at our studio (Taste Police HQ) in Brunswick, Melbourne, feverishly trying to keep the eclectic balance between colour, manic collage, and directness. The amazing Elizabeth M Drummond was kind enough to lend us some vocals, in what became more of a demonic angel choir part. Aaron Cupples [mixing] dealt with the sonic mess and brought it to life with a hot steamy mix. When we were writing and recording ‘falling', we wanted the verses to be really fun & bouncy, the chorus to be big & crisp like a bullshit FIFA song, and outro to be anthemic but tight.” Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
