While I was in Texas in quarantine I had the chance to talk to Producer Engineer Justin Pizzoferrato. I met Justin at J Mascis's studio last fall when he was manning the board and I was filming.  Justin has worked with some of the greats in the music world such as Dinosaur Jr, The Pixies, Lou Barlow, J Mascis, Wild Pink, Future Teens, Parquet Courts, Speedy Ortiz, Thurston Moore, Dead Confederate, Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady and the list go on. Enjoy the interview because Justin is cool. We've always enjoyed how T. Hardy Morris's voice breaks through any recording or band he gets involved with. His gift for melody has stood out on each his solo records, his time fronting the dark, sludgy psych of Dead Confederate, or as a member of garage-rock's version of the Traveling Wilburys, Diamond Rugs. Not only did we invite him to headline the first edition of very own Fuzz Fest last year, we sat down with him recently to talk about his new album. The album is called Dude, The Obscure, a playful homage to the Thomas Hardy Novel Jude, The Obscure.Listen on to hear about his approach to making this record, how being a dad influences his songwriting, and, of course, the music legacy of his hometown of Athens, GA.Subscribe to our podcast with your favorite podcast app at originalfuzz.com/podcast.Cover photo by Alex Justice. Ryan sits down with Dead Confederate frontman T. Hardy Morris at the historic Georgia Theatre to discuss getting shaken down by the Irish mob, spontaneous fistfights in the U.K., and the hypnotic effects of Lady Gaga on the youth of America.

You might know him as the lead singer of the Athens, GA-based band Dead Confederate or as a member of Diamond Rugs alongside members of Deer Tick and Los Lobos, but T. Hardy Morris remains restless on his latest release. "Drownin' on a Mountaintop" is released under the guise of Hardy & the Hard Knocks, but Morris' knack for finding Southern rock's grittier corners remains regardless of the outfit. Songs performed are "Young Assumption," "Blame" (one of his contributions to Diamond Rugs) and "Shit in the Wind." Recorded on August 4, 2015 at KDHX in St. Louis, Missouri. Engineered by Andy Coco.
