The guys are joined by Cole Gallagher to discuss “The Wall” from Pink Floyd. Yep….all 26 songs. Plenty of other discussion including battling imposter syndrome and getting Sadler & Jimbo & David Hidalgo of Los Lobos to play on your album, Captain & Tennille, backmasking, mean teachers, songs played on KISW (and Wayne doesn't remember them), team David or team Roger, and the difficulties of scoring a concept album. On the show this time, it's the Mexican-American indie-folk of Portland's Y La Bamba. Y La Bamba is the band name of Luz Elena Mendoza-Ramirez. They've been making music since the mid 2000s, starting out like many a great band - playing the open mics around their part time hometown of Portland Oregon. Over the years the band has changed, but the community around it has only grown. They've worked with folks like Chris Funk from the Decemberists, Steve Berlin from Los Lobos, and Sergio Mendoza from Calexico. They've toured with Neko Case and the Lumineers. They've hit the Billboard Latin Pop charts, NPR's top lists, and stolen the hearts of every independent radio station that took the time to listen. Still not sure what a LIFER is? Consider the case of Steve Berlin. He's a musician, a producer, and a member of one of America's greatest rock and roll bands: Los Lobos. The guy lives and breathes music and has a list of credits longer than a gibbon's arm. The stuff that he's done that we DIDN'T talk about on this episode could fill three OTHER episodes. So let's just focus on what we DID talk about: ‘XRT, Top Taco Jimmy, why you should never go out to eat with Greg Allman, the legendary L.A. punk scene of the early ‘80s, X, The Blasters, the legendary Slash records scene, Faith No More, The Replacements, R.E.M., John Lee Hooker, John McCauley, Robert Rodriguez, what Jimmy Reed would do, and the unexpectedly moving story of Canada's The Tragically Hip. This is a good one, folks.

As eleições do Equador devem ocorrer no próximo dia 20. Los Lobos, David Hidalgo, Louie Pérez, Steve Berlin, T Bone Burnett, and us.
The iconic East Los Angeles band Los Lobos is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Their blend of rock 'n' roll and traditional Mexican music has stayed consistent over generations. Members of the band, which formed when they were in high school, reflect with The World's host Marco Werman on their staying power.
Los Lobos was doing its label a favor when it played on what turned out to be a big album: Paul Simon's Graceland. Why did the band wind up feeling burned? Los Lobos sax/keyboard player Steve Berlin explains. Happier times arrived as Los Lobos hit No. 1 with its cover of Richie Valens' “La Bamba.” How did they capitalize on their newfound popularity? What was so strange about the recording process for the album The Neighborhood? What key takeaways from that experience led to the Los Lobos' 1992 masterpiece, Kiko? Berlin takes us inside that creative peak period and explains why the band was behind the eight-ball when it came time to record the groovy follow-up, Colossal Head—and how David Hidalgo may be the most unassuming great guitarist there is.

Saxophonist/keyboard player/producer Steve Berlin played with the Blasters before joining Los Lobos, and he noticed a stark contrast between how those two L.A. bands operated. He stuck with Los Lobos and still plays with them 40 years later. A call-‘em-as-he-sees-‘em storyteller, Berlin recounts a crazy Gregg Allman experience, an ordeal with a bad-decisions-prone producer, and his first experience playing what would become his trademark instrument, the baritone sax, on a celebrated Blasters song. He also discusses Los Lobos' sometimes-messy creative process and his co-production—and eventual falling out—with T Bone Burnett on early Los Lobos records. That conflict led to his being diverted to produce the band's soundtrack for an apparent B-movie. The title? La Bamba. Berlin serves up so much tasty material, you'll get a second helping next week.

It's the 4th of July, and we're talking 1995's Desperado, which seemed a hell of a lot cooler way back when the Eagles did their FIRST farewell tour, but now that they're on their 60th farewell tour, and Jordan and Nic are a lot older and wiser, does Antonio Banderas not aiming at anyone and still somehow perfectly bullseyeing bad guys who aim right at his chest and can't even hit him with shrapnel sandwiching a sex scene with Salma Hayek that plays like a parody of Last Tango in Paris still look cool? Let's find out together! Also, to hit on all of Robert Rodriguez' Mexico Trilogy (maybe we should have dropped this episode on May 5), we briefly talk 1992's El Mariachi and and even more briefly talk about 2003's Once Upon A Time in Mexico before engaging in a trivia battle that turns out even worse than 2003's Once Upon A Time in Mexico. Now it seems to me some fine things have been laid upon your table, SO QUIT RIDING FENCES AND LISTEN TO FILMSHAKE!Music Featured This Episode:"Back to the House That Love Built" by Tito & Tarantula"Canción Del Mariachi (Moreno de mi Corazón)" by Antonio Banderas and Los Lobos"Desperado" by The EaglesSupport the showConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment
