Today, mindfulness teacher Monique Rhodes shares how to move through that sticky in‑between space of “no longer who you were, not yet who you're becoming” without beating yourself up. You'll hear why happiness is an inside job, how to work with your mind when life blindsides you, and practical ways to rediscover joy and purpose with mindfulness—especially in retirement and other big life changes. We also discuss how mindfulness can help Type A people (like me and perhaps you…). And so let’s say you make some New Year’s resolutions or you’re in the middle of a transition like retirement and you’re in the middle of that change and you think to yourself,  this shouldn’t be so hard and I should have figured this out by now. But what those thoughts do is they actually only tighten that knot. So if we’re looking at getting unstuck, you know, the way that I teach is we have to have this willingness to soften, to stop pushing, to actually sit with what’s here, even if it’s uncomfortable. And from what I’ve learned and what I’ve seen, this is really the ground of transformation. Because when we allow ourselves, Joe, just to be exactly where we are with all the uncertainty, with all the doubt, with all the longing, then we begin to loosen the grip on all the old habitual ways of being. And our heart opens. And in that openness, something new can emerge. So I invite you all to not push through, but just to rest in that middle place and let the aspiration be there, but also let the discomfort be there. And let yourself almost be held by this knowing that the moment that you’re in right now is actually part of the path.” On Mindfulness…for Type As “And this energy is very, very powerful, but it can also become a kind of armor and it can protect Type A people from seeing themselves, from vulnerability, from uncertainty. So, if I was talking to a Tai A personality who was a skeptic, I would first of all say it is mindfulness is amazing for Type A personalities. And what if you didn’t need to fix anything right now? What if there was nothing to improve, but just something to notice? Because at the heart of mindfulness, we’re not looking to change our nature or our personality. What we’re doing is we’re inviting you to become more intimate with yourself, to sit beside that aspect of yourself that strives and maybe ask, what am I afraid of and what am I avoiding? Because often as a Type A personality, what we’re avoiding is the discomfort of being with ourselves as we are. But if we can soften that resistance, even for a breath, even for 10 minutes a day, I tell you, something extraordinary happens. And we begin to feel so much more alive, more connected to ourselves. The endless, amazing results of meditation, our relationships change. We just deal with everything differently. We become more whole. So it’s really good for us to understand, which is why mindfulness is used in so many, you know, big companies around the world, is that mindfulness isn’t an enemy of ambition. It’s really a way to return to the ground beneath your striving, to be able to see that ground clearly, to feel deeply, to live more fully, which is why I totally believe it’s a superpower.” On Why Happiness is an Inside Job “The biggest misconception that I know is that people believe that happiness comes from outside of themselves. And that is such a mic drop moment to understand that happiness doesn’t. Happiness is an internal job. And the wonderful thing about that is it means that we’re in control of it. It means that if you want to be happier, you don’t have to be rich. You don’t have to be powerful. You don’t have to be the most beautiful person in the world. I remember some years ago going to Las Vegas to hear Lady Gaga sing. And she was doing these kind of acoustic jazz Tony Bennett style concerts. It were really incredible. She was getting paid a million dollars a gig, Joe, and it was extraordinary. Here she is. She’s super wealthy. She’s beautiful. She’s successful. She’s powerful. And it was shocking for her to talk about how incredibly unhappy she is. So I think that’s one of the biggest things we need to understand is that all the things that we’re sold to believe will make us happy actually don’t. Because if they did, we would be able to look around the world to so many of the people that have all of them. And we can wonder why they’re not happy. So when we begin to understand that happiness is an inside job, then we actually have the incredible power to take control of it. So I think that that is probably the biggest misconception, but also the most powerful thing about it. And so that means that we need to learn to work with the thing that drives our happiness and our suffering, which is our mind. And if we can learn to work with our mind, then we can change our whole experience of the world.”

Long before we consciously think about it, we're already making choices. How much to push. When to stay quiet. What feels possible — and what feels off-limits. Most of those decisions aren't random. They're guided by beliefs we've been carrying for years, often without realizing where they came from. This episode of That Greenwich Life is an invitation to slow down and examine those beliefs — especially the ones LIMITING us. So many of the limits we accept as “just the way things are” aren't rooted in truth at all. They're inherited, learned, and reinforced until they feel immovable. But they don't have to be.My guest, Sarah Sadie Newett, is the founder of SSN, an award-winning movement practice studio in Westport that has built a deeply devoted community of people who return week after week — not just for physical results, but for transformation. She has decades of professional experience as a dancer and aerialist and has performed alongside artists including Lady Gaga, The Roots, and Lil' Kim. She has collaborated with major wellness and fashion brands such as Max Mara, Alo Yoga, Rhone, and Beyond Yoga. Through movement and her own journey of sobriety, Sarah helps people challenge long-held assumptions about their bodies and abilities, creating space for confidence, trust, and possibility. Whether working with athletes, creatives, mothers, or high-performing professionals, her clients consistently leave feeling capable of far more than they imagined. This episode is about more than physical flexibility or strength. It's about what becomes possible when beliefs change — not just in thought, but in practice. Because when your beliefs evolve, the way you move through your life evolves with them.Thank You to Our Sponsors: • RMA of New York — our Season 2 Presenting Sponsor and leading fertility care provider • Jack Rabbits Gymnastics and Soccer Club — a beloved children's movement and enrichment space helping kids build confidence, coordination, and joy through play • Room for Paws Pet Resort — a trusted, full-service pet resort providing exceptional care and peace of mind for families and their furry family membersLet's Connect! If this episode inspired you, please follow, rate, and review That Greenwich Life so more women can find these conversations. So, instead of avoiding the challenge, they bring the “Best Of” format directly into The Superhero Show and let the debate rip. From Superheroes to Soundwaves: The Best Album of 2025 BracketTo tackle the massive question of the Best Album of 2025, the hosts build a full tournament-style bracket. The lineup pulls from critics' lists and major media outlets, creating a field packed with the year's most talked-about releases. Each matchup sparks lively discussion as the hosts weigh artistry, cultural impact, replay value, and pure vibes.Albums going head-to-head include Lux by Rosalía, Getting Killed by Geese by Geese, Debí Tirar Más Fotos by Bad Bunny, Choke Enough by Oklou, Let God Sort Em Out by Clipse, Mayhem by Lady Gaga, Viagr Aboys by Viagra Boys, and Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party by Hayley Williams. These wild-card picks test whether passion can overpower consensus. Some personal choices surprise the panel by holding their own against heavyweight contenders, while others spark heated disagreements over taste, expectations, and what truly defines the Best Album of 2025.Debates, Upsets, and a Final VerdictAs the bracket narrows, the conversations shift from casual opinions to full-on arguments. The hosts debate genre boundaries, longevity, and which albums will define 2025 years from now. It seems like forever ago that awards shows were a time to honor excellence. Now they've become an excuse to hate watch, an opportunity to tear apart artists for what they wear, what they say and even how they look at each other. Coming off a particularly contentious 2025 around the world, the upcoming Grammy Awards will certainly tick off a lot of viewers. For starters, these days we just get mad at everybody all the time for everything anyway. What's more, there are raw nerves out there about any number of social and political issues - and musicians aren't known for being diplomats who keep their opinions to themselves. And on top of everything, last year's Grammys saw Beyonce finally win her first Album of the Year award - for a country album that many country fans refused to accept as "country." (There are still residual hurt feelings over that one.) Many of this year's top contenders, for Album of the Year and other major awards, have been linked to key social issues and are known for saying what's on their minds. Bad Bunny (set to perform at halftime of this year's Super Bowl) could win Album of the Year among other awards. It would be the first time a Spanish-language album won for best overall album ... and it should be noted the Puerto Rican performer was in the news in 2025 for canceling shows and/or avoiding performances in many cities because of expectations of ICE raids targeting concertgoers. This year's Grammys could also find Kendrick Lamar or Lady Gaga win their first Album of the Year Grammy. Lamar, an early and committed advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement, hasn't flinched from controversy in his career - including during his recent vicious rivalry with Drake. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has been a career-long, unapologetically vocal, ally for the LGBTQ members of society ... and 2025 was a particularly tough one for trans Americans. Enter Wayne Bledsoe and Chuck Campbell, veteran music journalists (and friends) who have been arguing about the Grammys since the 1990s. As hosts of "How We Heard It," they invite listeners to play along during this episode as they make their picks from this year's nominees, choosing who deserves to win and who likely will win. Most importantly, they urge everyone to relax and enjoy the music. We're all friends here.

In an episode recorded just before Christmas, Darren interviews Janet Egan, Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of the Technology and National Security Program at CNAS, about AI policy and its implications for Australia. Janet (who started her career in the Australian government) frames the current AI landscape as a two-horse race between the US and China, given vastly asymmetric investment levels. She introduces “compute policy” as a tractable governance lever, explaining that the physical infrastructure required for AI—specialised chips, data centres, and energy—offers regulatable chokepoints unlike easily transferable data or algorithms. The US strategy focuses on scale and removing barriers to advancement, while China, constrained by export controls on advanced semiconductors, pursues a diffusion-oriented approach emphasising open-source models and practical applications. Turning to Australia's recently released National AI Plan, Janet offers a mixed assessment. She praises the establishment of an AI Safety Institute and the acknowledgment that data centres matter, while noting the plan avoided overly restrictive regulation that could stifle investment. However, she argues the plan misses a significant opportunity: positioning Australia as a compute hub for frontier AI training. Australia's renewable energy potential, available land, and skilled trades workforce make it attractive for data centre buildout, but copyright restrictions on training data remain a key barrier. Janet argues that unlike critical minerals, AI does not lend itself to hedging between Washington and Beijing given its inherently dual-use nature and emerging evidence of bias in Chinese models. She highlights the UAE and UK as instructive cases—the former for ambitious state-led mobilisation, the latter for sophisticated thinking about AI sovereignty structured around supply resilience, value capture, and strategic influence. For Australia, she argues, meaningful participation in the AI supply chain would provide strategic leverage and a seat at the table where consequential decisions are being made. Australia in the World is written, hosted, and produced by Darren Lim, with research and editing this episode by Hannah Nelson and theme music composed by Rory Stenning. Is Stone Island actually worth the price? What lifestyle requires techwear? Is Timothee Chalamet overrated? Why does Lady Gaga feel less authentic than Charli XCX? What is gooning, and how did it end up in Harper's Bazaar? This week, Sol and Michael sit down with Shane O'Neill, writer for The Washington Post's twice-weekly pop culture newsletter "Seriously?," to unpack the weirdest corners of the internet and how they intersect with fashion, music, and modern masculinity. The trio explore the techwear vs. lifestyle debate, why Stone Island might be "a little more serious" than necessary, the complicated appeal of Timothee Chalamet vs. Pedro Pascal, and whether Madonna's Celebration Tour was genius or needed a creative director. Shane defends his take on why Charli XCX feels more genuine than Lady Gaga, the overlooked brilliance of the Blue Man Group's first album, and how his job at the Washington Post lets him explore everything from competitive Excel spreadsheet championships to extremely niche fetish communities on TikTok.The conversation goes off the deep end: gooning culture and how Shane learned about it years before it hit mainstream media, why Jeremy Scott is "the Taco Bell of fashion" (complimentary), the NFL's official stylist whose college thesis connected SpongeBob SquarePants to the Arab Spring uprisings (not a joke), and why most luxury fashion houses are actually perfume or shoe companies pretending to sell clothes. They also discuss the Ice Spice SpongeBob movie premiere outfit controversy, why people pay to stand motionless at techno clubs, and Warped Tour nostalgia.Other topics include: Devoa, the Saint Laurent SS16 Surf Sound collection, ASICS x Comme des Garçons sneakers, the oura ring and Palantir data concerns, extreme fitness culture and dissociation, Russian seal best friends named Kroshik and Shlissik, and competitive Excel spreadsheet merch. We hope you enjoy!Lots of love!Sol---Episode Tags: Shane O'Neill, Washington Post Seriously, fashion podcast 2026, gooning explained, gooning Harper's Bazaar, Jeremy Scott fashion, menswear podcast, streetwear podcast, archive fashion, internet subcultures, TikTok algorithm, competitive Excel spreadsheets, niche communities, oura ring review, Ice Spice stylist, men's fashion trends 2026, Kyle Smith NFL stylist, Alexander McQueen shoes Sol Thompson and Michael Smith explore the world and subcultures of fashion, interviewing creators, personalities, and industry insiders to highlight the new vanguard of the fashion world. We’re back live January 19, 2026. In the meantime… James Young from Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar dropped in to spill the tea on the night Lady Gaga partied so hard, she left on her hands and knees—literally crawling up ACDC Lane. From booking clashes with a Mildura blues duo to five-hour Gaga dance marathons, this story has it all. She rocked the bar solo, requested Judas Priest, and proved why she’s the real Queen of Pop and rock. The night became legendary… and we reckon her post-Marvel Stadium plans might just include another Cherry Bar cameo

Industrial robots on a factory floor can be difficult, to say the least. Industrial robots on a concert stage, in front of 20,000 people, on a two-minute setup clock are a whole different challenge. In this episode, we talk with Andy Flesser - computer animator turned “robot animator,” whose work has helped bring robotics into live entertainment and film - about what that kind of pressure does to how you think about automation. Why preparation starts way earlier than most teams realize. And why some of the best lessons for manufacturing come from places that don't look like factories at all.We also get into where Andy thinks robotics actually makes sense, where it probably doesn't, and why the future of robots might be less about machines walking around and more about environments doing work around us.If you've ever operated an automated system and felt that knot in your stomach when something didn't behave the way you expected, you'll recognize a lot of what he's talking about here.In this episode, find out:How Andy went from animation into robotics, and why early robot programming felt more like deciphering a code than writing softwareWhat it was like putting robots on tour with Bon Jovi, and why live entertainment turned out to be one of the toughest automation environments imaginableWhy a robot failing on a concert stage creates a very different kind of pressure than a robot failing behind factory wallsWhat really happens on a movie set when robotics are involved (including Black Adam), and why even “small” changes still need serious testingWhy Andy sees huge potential for robotics in medical applications, especially in areas most people don't talk aboutA take on the future of robotics that skips the humanoids and focuses on buildings, rooms, and systems doing the work insteadHow entertainment can be a surprisingly effective way to pull people into robotics and automation careersEnjoying the show?
