Abbey Road Studios in London, England was the world's first purpose-built recording studio. Opened way back in 1931, this building and the people inside have been at the cutting edge of recording technology for over 90s years. Abbey Road Studios is most famous for being where The Beatles recorded almost all of their music, but it also drove innovation with stereo recording, multitracks, editing, and the shift from analog to digital recording. In addition to all of those amazing Beatles records – which we'll get to – some other stuff recorded at Abbey Road includes Dark Side of the Moon and albums from Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Oasis, the Hollies, Radiohead, and the Zombies. Music scores for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Marvel movies, and video game soundtracks for Halo, Call of Duty, and World of Warcraft. They even recorded some of Winston Churchill's famous speeches during World War II to help keep morale high. From classical roots to rock rebellion, Abbey Road's always been ahead of the game, rewriting rules along the way. So kick back, feel the beat, and join us as we explore the studio that turned sound into a revolution. Let's roll! Episode Playlist Check out our episode playlist here. Wesley Morris didn't love Lady Gaga's new album “Mayhem.” Then Caryn Ganz, The Times's pop music editor, took him to see Mayhem — the tour — on its final night at Madison Square Garden. It totally changed the way both of them think about Gaga and what she's been up to all this time. In short: All hail Mother Monster. Who's the Biglaw partner with the most star-studded client roster? Orin Snyder, co-chair of the Trials Practice Group at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, has to be up there. Consider this: at least a half-dozen of his clients have performed at the Super Bowl halftime show, in Times Square on New Year's Eve, or both. (In case you're wondering, they are Marc Anthony, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, The Rolling Stones, and Bruce Springsteen.)Most lawyers would be thrilled to have just one famous client. But Orin Snyder isn't most lawyers. A former federal prosecutor, he has been recognized as one of the nation's leading litigators—not just by Chambers and Partners and Forbes, but by entertainment-industry publications like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. In our conversation, we covered Orin's family history in the entertainment industry; his service as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York; why celebrity clients are often a joy to represent, not annoying or aggravating (which was my guess); and his forthcoming memoir. As a longtime Biglaw partner and member of Gibson's executive committee, Orin is an expert on the business of law. So we discussed the virtues of boutique practice (he had his own boutique before joining Gibson), why so many Biglaw firms are shifting away from litigation, and why he thinks that's a mistake. Finally, Orin told me how he came to represent the family of the late Professor Dan Markel, pro bono—for which I am, as a friend of Dan, especially grateful.Show Notes:* Orin Snyder bio, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP* Orin Snyder profile, Chambers and Partners* Meet Orin Snyder, the Deadliest Trial Lawyer in Tech, by Greg Sandoval for The VergePrefer reading to listening? Our award winning duo meet a DJ and producer who knows a thing or two about acceptance speeches. Mark Ronson is a BRIT, Golden Globe, Grammy and Oscar-winning British-American DJ, record producer, musician and songwriter. He has added ‘author' to that list, too, with the release of his memoir, Night People, an account of becoming a DJ in ‘90s New York. The book is full of incredible stories and entertaining celebrity encounters, and you get a tasty sampler of them in our chat over roast chicken. We start the episode with a dirty vodka martini and a side of Monster Munch before a hearty roast chicken with fennel, shallot & white bean stew, appealing to Mark's love of Sunday roasts. This is paired with a glass of Vignerons Ardechois Viognier and served alongside tales of working with Paul McCartney and Lady Gaga and the joy Mark gets from being a dad. Mark and Nick's own friendship stretches back to the noughties, and nights out together with the likes of Adele and Amy Winehouse. Nostalgic memories are sparked across the table, including one involving a hungover Nick in New York and a party hosted by Leonardo DiCaprio. There's also time to celebrate Nick and Angela's gong for Best Hosts at this year's British Podcast Awards. We couldn't be prouder of them. Cheers! In Episode 140, astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield turn their cosmic gaze to pop music's famous star, Lady Gaga, and her venture capitalist fiancé, Michael Polansky. The analysis begins with Gaga's chart, revealing a creative, pioneering Aries Sun. A trine to Saturn shows her resilience in the face of setbacks, while a square from Neptune fuels her deep compassion and fluid sense of identity. Her Aries Venus, trined by Uranus, points to a fearless and uniquely rebellious style. Moving to Michael's chart, we find an equality-oriented Libra Sun, with a sextile from Uranus and Jupiter creating an incredibly outgoing and charming personality. A Venus/Mars conjunction in Leo thrives in the spotlight, though a square from the Moon suggests potential difficulties in interpersonal relationships. Together, their charts reveal compelling synastry: one is Mars-ruled, the other Venus-ruled, with opposing Suns creating complimentary energy. A Mercury opposition balances imagination and diligence, while an incredible Venus/Mars trine generates never-ending attraction. However, a Venus/Pluto opposition warns of potential power struggles, and heavy south node contacts with Saturn and Uranus indicate significant karmic lessons at play. Will this prove to be a lasting union? Tune in to hear the final Venus score for this newly engaged couple! Book a Reading with us! Put your paws up! This week Kevin recalls a trip to a fancy café where he wasn't being taken seriously, so naturally he decided to draft a fake invoice for €196k to assert dominance. The lads also chat about the unique joy (and silent panic) of seeing your friends in a show they've made themselves because what do you say if it wasn't great? To top it off, Kevin's just seen Lady Gaga on the Mayhem Ball tour and his life will never be the same again. Cover songs often aren't what they should be. Many are pale and pointless facsimiles of the original songs, and others even take off into some new direction for no reason whatsoever. Rude. So this week the "How We Heard It" guys let their imaginations run wild, freewheeling through music history (from 60-odd years ago to today), mixing and matching some of the most popular songs of all time to an expansive variety of distinctive artists, old and new. They make inspired choices as they spitball ideas, conjuring some songs you just know would be great, some you'd at least want to check out and some that would doubtless be terrible. There are no rules to the game - artists who are long dead could be called upon to cover new songs just as easily as new artists could be called upon to cover old songs (with AI, anything is possible). As a result, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Karen Carpenter and Prince can be called upon just as easily as Lady Gaga, John Legend, Billie Eilish and Benson Boone. Who would cover the Beatles? Who would the Beatles cover? You'll likely be surprised who the guys pick to cover Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," John Lennon's "Imagine," Bette Midler's 'Wind Beneath My Wings," Blondie's "Call Me" and R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)" - just to name a few. Find out what very different songs they have in mind for Lana Del Rey to cover and the unthinkably bizarre (albeit tantalizing) pair they'd pick to remake "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. Free your mind and play along.

It's one part siege movie, one part social horror, and all parts grim. When the Ain't Rights take a last-minute gig deep in Oregon's backwoods, they expect low pay and bad beer — not blood, dogs, machetes and Patrick Stewart as a terrifying skinhead ringleader. What follows is a night of panic, violence and duct-tape surgery, as the band fights to survive against an organised fascist militia who'd rather clean up witnesses than pay for another gig.We dig into:Punk authenticity — the grime, the DIY spirit, and how Saulnier nails the small-venue chaos.Patrick Stewart's casting — calm, chilling, and galaxies away from Captain Picard.Anton Yelchin's tragic final performance — and what a loss he was.Violence that hurts — no jump scares, just sudden, stomach-turning realism. The Nazi problem — why these villains feel horrifyingly believable in 2025.The A24 factor — another lean, mean indie proving the studio's knack for smart brutality.Elsewhere in the episode: ☕ The Top 5 Hot Drinks delivers peppermint tea, Dirty Harry's coffee, and more filth than a builder's thermos.

Eric and I had the pleasure of doing a GeriPal Live! Podcast as the closing keynote for the recent Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) National Assembly in Philadelphia PA. For this podcast, we invited 3 guests to each select an article of interest to them, and engage in a discussion about the article, including questions from the CAPC attendees in the audience. Our guests chose the following articles (in the order discussed) Matt Gonzalez used AI to select an article by Ravi Parikh on algorithm based nudges to default patients with advanced cancer into a palliative care consult, published in JAMA Network Open, finding 44% in the intervention arm received palliative care consults, vs 8% in the control arm. We discussed use of AI to select the article, nudges, sludge, and the impressive though still less than 50% rate of PC consults. Kim Curseen selected an article by Harry Han in JPSM that surveyed palliative care fellowships, finding that clinical fellows spent 5 weeks in outpatient care and 24 weeks in inpatient care, on average. We discussed the mismatch between outpatient training, and the needs of people with serious illness who spend most of their lives outside the hospital, and training in inpatient care, where most hospitals have robust services and needs. Training in non-onc palliative care was particularly low. Karen Bullock selected a letter she first authored in response to Ira Byock's white paper on a path forward in hospice and palliative care. We discussed the need to view all issues in geriatrics, hospice, and palliative care through an equity lens, particularly in view of the disparate impact on historically marginalized communities of concerning practices and trends in hospice and palliative care (e.g. private equity gobbling up hospices). And at the end, we sang a tribute to the Lady Gaga of Palliative Care, with the whole Assembly singing along! Stay tuned for future GeriPal Live! This is a two-part episode: the first interview with Cole Haden of Model/Actriz and the second interview with The Molotovs!Cole Haden of Model/ActrizOn this episode of Lipps Service, Scott Lipps sits down with Cole Haden, the magnetic lead singer of blistering noise rock band Model/Actriz. The conversation spans the band's meteoric rise, from sold-out shows in Brooklyn to high-profile festival appearances, such as Coachella. Cole opens up about the band's beginnings in Boston, the members' time at Berklee College of Music, and the evolution of the band's distinctive sound: raw, theatrical, and defiantly unorthodox. They dive into the origins of the band's name, their unique approach to performance, and what it means to create music without traditional melody or chords. With a candid discussion about identity and vulnerability in lyricism, Cole offers an unfiltered look into both the personal and artistic layers of Model/Actriz. The episode also touches on dream collaborations, chaotic live moments, working with Miley Cyrus, and shoutouts to iconic influences like Gwen Stefani, Grace Jones, and Last Gaga. The interview concludes with Cole listing his top 5 frontmen/women and his favorite NYC-bred artists. Tune into an insightful chat with Cole Haden of Model/Actriz! On today's episode, we welcome the multi-talented Kim Ray, a writer, producer, and director whose career spans reality TV, documentaries, and scripted projects. Best known for her work on the Netflix documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two, Kim's journey through the industry is an inspiring tale of creativity, resilience, and innovation. Our conversation begins with Kim's fascinating experience co-writing West Bank Story, a parody of West Side Story that cleverly blended humor with themes of peace and cultural commonality. As Kim describes, “It was about showing that even in a world full of conflict, there's so much that connects us.” The project, which gained significant recognition, was a testament to her ability to merge art with meaningful messages.Kim's transition into reality television was both unexpected and transformative. While it wasn't her original focus, she brought her narrative expertise to shows like The X Factor and Kendra on Top. “Reality TV,” Kim explains, “requires storytelling that's just as nuanced as scripted work. You're shaping real moments into something cohesive and engaging.” Her work on these projects highlights her adaptability and deep understanding of human emotion. One of the standout points in Kim's career was producing Gaga: Five Foot Two. The project offered an intimate glimpse into Lady Gaga's life, showcasing her vulnerabilities and strength. Kim recounts the challenges of crafting such an unfiltered narrative, saying, “The magic was in the authenticity. Gaga was raw and real, and we wanted viewers to feel like they were walking alongside her.” The minimal crew and close collaboration created an unparalleled connection between the subject and the audience.Beyond her professional achievements, Kim's insights into the industry's evolution are enlightening. She speaks candidly about the systemic challenges women face in Hollywood, sharing how she navigated a landscape often dominated by male voices. Her reflections on the #MeToo movement underscore the importance of platforms like social media for amplifying marginalized voices. “It's a double-edged sword,” Kim notes, “but it's also a powerful tool for change.”Kim's current project, Violet's New Life, delves into the futuristic concept of consciousness transfer. The short film and pilot explore what it means to live again in a synthetic body, blending technology and human emotion. As Kim puts it, “It's not just about immortality—it's about the psychology of starting over, carrying the weight of one life into another.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

Welcome to episode 101 of The Vertical Space. In this conversation, we sit down with Ryan Gury, Co-founder and CEO of Performance Drone Works (PDW). Ryan argues that “commercial is eating aerospace,” and shows why the center of gravity has shifted from exquisite programs to fast iteration, modular hardware, and drones treated as munitions. We dig into lessons from Ukraine, why precision from a foxhole beats posture from a ridge line and what “velocity + iteration” really means for design, manufacturing, and doctrine. We also unpack the RF war: proliferated jamming, fiber-tethered ops, directional links and why legacy radio assumptions break down at the edge. Ryan contrasts automation vs. true autonomy, swarming myths vs. realities, and the coming wave of sleeper robotics. He shares PDW's playbook: veteran-led product development, the C100 mothership, and building to BOM and scale. Plus a frank take on how procurement and a DoD “marketplace” must evolve.

Amanda LaCount proves that plus size dancers belong center stage, sharing how her journey, her advocacy, and the support of Dance Mom Jill are reshaping the dance community. A professional dancer who has performed with Lady Gaga, Rihanna, JLo, and Katy Perry, Amanda joins John Corella to challenge the stereotypes that have long defined the industry. She reveals how media-driven beauty standards create barriers, why she is determined to advocate for greater inclusivity, and how she built the confidence to push back against an environment that often resists change. Amanda credits much of her boldness to Dance Mom Jill's unwavering advocacy and explains why having someone in your corner can make all the difference. We meet Sean Ono Lennon to explore his music and life with art, plus we discuss the forthcoming box set Power to the People, that Sean has produced, of his parents' Yoko Ono and John Lennon's 1972 fundraising live New York concert. We consider activism in art, especially the legacy of John and Yoko's timeless work together (as also documented in the recent One to One documentary).Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York City on 30 August 1972, the Power to The People box set includes 31 Live Tracks from John & Yoko's two historic sets at the One To One Concert backed by Plastic Ono Band, Elephant's Memory and Special Guests. They were John Lennon's only full-length concerts after leaving The Beatles and the last two full-length concerts that John & Yoko performed together. Released from 10th October 2025. Learn more: https://www.johnlennon.com/news/power-to-the-people-deluxe-box-4lp-2lp-2cd-1cd-preorder-now/Sean Ono Lennon is a world renowned musician, songwriter, and producer. “He has always chosen his own musical path, following it deftly as he splits the difference between pop and experimental pursuits. He came of age in the kaleidoscopic '90s, working with Cibo Matto and issuing his first solo album, 1998's Into the Sun, on the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal label, while beginning a long stint playing in his mother Yoko Ono's band. In the following decade he formed the psychedelic duo the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and the improvisational prog group Mystical Weapons. As his musical interests expanded further, he teamed with Les Claypool to form the hard-to-categorize project the Claypool Lennon Delirium, branched out into film scoring, explored more mainstream territory as he worked with artists like Lana Del Ray, Lady Gaga and Lily Allen, and delved into jazz as well. His first foray into that style was 2024's Asterisms, a fully instrumental album of electronics-fused jazz and psychedelic soundscape music. The son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Lennon was born in New York City in 1975. During his childhood, he was educated in Swiss boarding schools, but occasionally appeared on his mother's albums and sang on the 1984 Ono tribute Every Man Has a Woman. In his early teens, he was occasionally seen decked out in a plastic Thriller jacket and hanging out with Michael Jackson, but his first official step into the spotlight was in the form of filmed interviews for the 1988 documentary Imagine: John Lennon. Three years later, he organized -- with Ono and Lenny Kravitz -- a star-studded re-recording of his father's "Give Peace a Chance" as a protest to the Gulf War. That year, he also appeared on Kravitz's album Mama Said.” Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi.In 2025, Sean is working on a new Claypool Lennon Delirium album (their 3rd) and is directing a documentary film on the crazy genius fashion designers 3as4, who have designed outfits for Bjork and Yoko among many others. Lady Gaga is a singer, songwriter, producer, and actress from New York. She's one of the biggest artists in the world. She's also won 14 Grammys, 2 Golden Globes, and an Oscar. And in March 2025, she released her sixth album, Mayhem. For this episode, I talked to her about a song from that album called “Abracadabra.” She co-wrote it and co-produced it with Andrew Watt and Cirkut, and they recorded it in Rick Rubin's studio, Shangri-La. That's also where we recorded the interview for this episode. For more info, visit songexploder.net/lady-gaga.
"When you stand on what matters, everything is going to fall into place for you." Anthony Ramos One's journey is never a straight line and often the path we think we are destined for is paved with lots of ups and downs that lead us to where we belong. In this pivotal conversation, Ryan, Channing, and Fred sit down with multi‑talented actor, singer, and storyteller Anthony Ramos, to explore the twists, turns, and lessons that have shaped his journey. From humble beginnings of the New York streets to Broadway stages, from major film sets to music studios, Anthony shares how he's navigated shifting expectations, risk, and growth — all while staying rooted in identity and purpose. He shares the impact that starring in Hamilton had on his life, the wisdom from Busta Rhymes, the excitement of Spike Lee, being on set with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, his most transformative role as well as his most challenging and gives a sneak peek at some big projects in the works. It's a reflective and honest conversation on the little moments and decisions that led him to chase his dream down an unlikely path overcoming poverty, sharing how the streets taught him to act and maneuver the challenges of a rough upbringing and why pursuing a passion is often out of reach for people like him. He talks to Ryan about dealing with race and cultural barriers, staying authentically himself while balancing Hollywood pressures, choosing to be on the right side of his beliefs, betting on himself and taking risks to chase the big roles. He talks to Channing how he mended the relationship with his father before he passed and explains to Fred saying no is hard but being loyal to his roots matters the most, which he explains turning down the chance to work with J.Lo.
