Gobble, gobble, Junkies! JFD returns to close out November with a cinematic feast of cult delights! Up first, Steven Kostanski the director who brought us such JFD classics as Frankie Freako, Psycho Goreman and Father's Day gives us his take on the 80's sword and sandals staple Deathstalker from 2025. With the violence and practical effects turned up to 11 and featuring Daniel Bernhardt in the titular role and Patton Oswalt providing the voice of his mystical sidekick, can this reboot live up to the original?Next, Andy Warhol scenester Holly Woodlawn stars in the wacky musical comedy Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers from 1972. The film, which has been unavailable for decades and just recently got restored and released by AGFA, chronicles the misadventures of a young woman looking for fame in love on the mean streets of New York City. Finally, a professional special effects artist (Bryan Brown) is recruited by the US Department of Justice to stage a fake assassination of a prominent mob figure in the 1986 thriller F/X. The flick also stars many other recognizable character actors such as Brian Dennehy, Cliff De Young, Jerry Orbach and Tom Noonan. All this plus Thanksgiving traditions, what balloons the boys are excited for at the parade this year, adventures in TV land, hot releases for Black Friday, cartoons on blu-ray and so much more!LISTEN NOW:MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. Send us a Text Message - include your name!In this episode of Faith Over Breakfast, Pastor Eric and Pastor Andy reflect on discipleship and a recent conference Andy attended, one Eric was somewhat grateful to have missed. The conversation moves beyond conference highlights and into the reality of everyday following. Andy invites Eric to share how he understands true discipleship, not as a program or event, but as a way of life shaped by Jesus, formed in community, and practiced in the ordinary rhythms of the week. Together, they explore what it really means to walk with others, be shaped over time, and stay faithful in the slow, unseen places where real formation happens. The title, More Obscure Than Scott Vander Ploeg, is a playful homage to Paul Vanderklay's praise of the conference's host pastor. It carries both humor and respect, nodding to the kind of quiet, faithful leadership that often goes unnoticed but makes a lasting impact. Support the showSUPPORT THE SHOW BEYOND SUBSCRIPTIONS1. Two horse patooties on this week's episode of Obscure. In the case of your host, the patootiness stems from taking extra trips when I'd rather be home. This episode, I briefly describe a short trip to New Hampshire from which I've just returned that I need not have agreed to go to, despite the fact that I had cromulent time. The second horse's patootie, of course, is our own Clyde, now incarcerated and finding himself the subject of horror and scorn. Between the two of us, I suspect my own trip to the New Hampshire Film Festival left me in a better position than Clyde finds himself.Support Obscure!Read Michael's substackFollow Michael on TwitterFollow Michael on InstagramSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The story so far: Trapped in an underground video store run by an anthropomorphic Mole Man, three men make the best of their situation...This week, we're looking for something dark, and nothing is darker than a movie that takes place in a cave with little-to-no lighting, so we check out The Strangeness from 1985! Last month, during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States had offered to functionally loan Argentina $20 billion. Despite the sums involved, this bailout required no authorization from Congress, because of the loan's source: an obscure pool of money called the Exchange Stabilization Fund. The ESF is essentially the Treasury Department's private slush fund. Its history goes all the way back to the Great Depression. But, in the 90 years since its creation, it has only been used one time at this scale to bailout an emerging economy: Mexico, in 1995. That case study contains some helpful lessons that can be used to make sense of Bessent's recent move. Will this new credit line to Argentina work out as well as it did the last time we tried it? Or will Argentina's economic troubles hamstring the Exchange Stabilization Fund forever?Pre-order the Planet Money book and get a free gift. / Subscribe to Planet Money+Listen free: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, the NPR app or anywhere you get podcasts.Facebook / Instagram / TikTok / Our weekly Newsletter. This episode was hosted by Keith Romer and Erika Beras. LESSON 304Let Not My World Obscure The Sight Of Christ.I can obscure my holy sight, if I intrude my world upon it. Nor can I behold the holy sights Christ looks upon, unless it is His vision that I use. Perception is a mirror, not a fact. And what I look on is my state of mind, reflected outward. I would bless the world by looking on it through the eyes of Christ. And I will look upon the certain signs that all my sins have been forgiven me.You lead me from the darkness to the light; from sin to holiness. Let me forgive, and thus receive salvation for the world. It is Your gift, my Father, given me to offer to Your holy Son, that he may find again the memory of You, and of Your Son as You created him.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

Our adventures in the American Southwest continue as we kick off Schlocktober, the spookiest of months, with our look at Death Valley, the underseen 1982 semi-slasher featuring a bevy of semi-famous familiar faces! Also! Parker Bowman's back from Kevin's wedding in Cinci and has stories to tell! So #DonloydNow and enjoy this bite-sized Junk Food Supper. We got all this plus Saudi Arabian Prince Rocky Johnson fails at the box office, old man Cena stars in HBO's The Pacemaker, Bowman regales us with tales of horror and romance from the dark Christian heartland of the American midwest, a (sadly incomplete) update on the Moss family tax filing status, does Kevin's dad make an appearance? (answer: yes), things people have always said, whether or not you should get cheese on a burger (answer: yes), what exactly constitutes a new tattoo versus an expansion of an existing one? (answer: listen and find out), important baseball updates, extensive One Battle After Another coverage, too much music for a supper episode, sneezes, blank stares, gleeks and so much more!! This month, the JFD gang pays tribute to Christopher Guest with a trio of flicks that feature some level of his involvement. Up first! We were shocked to discover our baby boy Bowman hadn't seen 1984's Spinal Tap, but now he has. Did he like it, though? Next up! We stretch the definition of "involvement" with Mary Tyler Moore's television variety special called How to Survive the 70s and Maybe Even Bump Into Happiness, (from 1978). He's sort of in it, but barely. Finally! Of course, it's 1993's Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman, because he directed it, and that's the only movie he directed that we've heard of. All this plus a traumatic treat-based trick, a cinci cult film screening update, a juggalo gathering update, fourth dimension theatrical exhibitions, the smells of vienna austria, an official update on Kevin's all-important filing status, is free speech overrated?, nerd news and even more!
