https://slasrpodcast.com/ SLASRPodcast@gmail.com Welcome to Episode 226 of the Sounds Like a Search and Rescue podcast. This week we're joined by Jim Thorsen, who just returned from an incredible trip that took him from trekking in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal to nearly a month traveling across India—temples, safaris, a sunrise at the Taj Mahal, tea plantations, Kerala backwaters, and the full sensory overload of cities like Delhi and Mumbai. We're also welcoming back our own Stomp, who returns for a special segment on communication in the wilderness—covering how hikers can better prepare, stay connected when things go sideways, and why good communication is often the difference between a minor problem and a full-blown rescue. Plus we've got a bunch of New Hampshire topics including shoulder-season hiking reminders as the weather warms up but winter refuses to leave, the upcoming live show at the Mountain Wanderer, some political drama around the Fryeburg Fair in Maine, a look at how the Common Man welcome centers somehow turned rest stops into a $25-million operation, maple syrup season ramping up across the Granite State, gear talk including a snowshoe sale and waterproofing strategies, a music minute featuring Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by the Smashing Pumpkins, updates from Dave somewhere down the Appalachian Trail around Neel's Gap, recent hikes, listener shout-outs, and of course a dad joke that probably should have stayed in the notebook. Com João Varella, Alexandre Sato, Thomas Kehl, Marcos Kiyoto, João R e Marina AndreoliDois Analógicos - Listen on Spotify - Linktree

Het was alweer even geleden. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Part 5 When engaging with an Oneness Pentecostal, as with all cults, they have their favourite go-to passages that they hope will prove their case for the particular doctrine they are seeking to substantiate. Admittedly, as one gives ear to their arguments, they appear at first to be convincing. Obscure texts and isolated verses are lifted out of context; difficult verses to understand are presented as though they support the erroneous heresies being propagated. The man standing on the Word of God ought never to be afraid of the cultist. No matter how convincing his opponents' arguments may be against the historical position of orthodoxy, the man standing opposite has been labelled a heretic for a reason. He is a heretic because he has deviated from the straight path and turned aside to damnable doctrines against the clear testimony of Holy Scripture. When dealing with the nature of God, Oneness Pentecostals have several passages that they hope to use for their own advantage. This fifth teaching aims to discover what these are and to offer a sound exegesis of the passages to refute the error of the Oneness understanding. There is a virtue that doesn't get much love anymore. It sounds cautious. Boring. Overly careful. But the ancient world believed that PRUDENCE was the hinge on which a good life turns. In this episode, John Ortberg reclaims prudence as a courageous commitment to reality. Not wishful thinking. Not emotional reaction. But clear-eyed wisdom that asks: What is really going on, and what is the most loving, skillful way forward?Drawing from Scripture, the story of Abraham Lincoln, and the biblical image of “the stars fighting in their courses,” this teaching invites us to trust that God is already at work in reality itself. The most prudent thing you can do today may simply be to face what's real and take one wise step forward.
The boys are back with the first episode of the New Year! First, Sean and Parker list their Top 5 First-Time watches of 2025 (that aren't JFD/S movies or 2025 movies). Then they discuss The Great Buddha Arrival from 2018 directed by Hiroto Yokokawa. The movie is a remake of (and sequel to) a 1934 lost kaiju movie. In it, a filmmaker tries to discover the truth about a film that shows a real-life statue of Buddha getting up and walking through town. While doing so, history seems to repeat. The film also stars many faces from past Godzilla and Gamera movies. All this plus chit chat, silliness and so much more. Direct Donloyd here. Last month, during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States had offered to functionally loan Argentina $20 billion. Despite the sums involved, this bailout required no authorization from Congress, because of the loan's source: an obscure pool of money called the Exchange Stabilization Fund. The ESF is essentially the Treasury Department's private slush fund. Its history goes all the way back to the Great Depression. But, in the 90 years since its creation, it has only been used one time at this scale to bailout an emerging economy: Mexico, in 1995. That case study contains some helpful lessons that can be used to make sense of Bessent's recent move. Will this new credit line to Argentina work out as well as it did the last time we tried it? Or will Argentina's economic troubles hamstring the Exchange Stabilization Fund forever?Pre-order the Planet Money book and get a free gift. / Subscribe to Planet Money+Listen free: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, the NPR app or anywhere you get podcasts.Facebook / Instagram / TikTok / Our weekly Newsletter. This episode was hosted by Keith Romer and Erika Beras.
