Tom DeBlass, owner of Ocean County BJJ, joined Jason Kelly (@JayKellyMMA) on this episode on Rear-Naked Choke Radio to answer that question. DeBlass, a product of Ricardo Almeida, has devoted his life to BJJ. He is an elite competitor, who has only given up 15 points in his entire jiu-jitsu competitive career, and celebrated the 10-year anniversary of his academy, OCBJJ, this week. The professor spoke on the trials and tribulations of owning a jiu-jitsu academy, with most years reaching $150,000 in bills, and giving people a btreak when needed just to get them on the mats. He also talked about his recent venture into writing, which has DeBlass constructing articles for www.jiujitsutimes.com, generating revenue as tournament holder, the types if characters BJJ needs to grow in popularity and his future plans as a competitor. Always a gentleman, forever a scholar, the school-teacher-turned-BJJ-prof held class and educated us on what it takes to make it in a joint-manipulated world. Tom DeBlass and Chris Lee Byrne joined RNC Radio to talk about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and their matches at Submission Series Pro. DeBlass, who headlines the event opposite of Joao Assis, is a highly decorated grappler. A student under Ricardo Almeida, DeBlass has spent a lifetime honing his craft and admittedly is still learning every single day. DeBlass spoke on his upcoming match, how likely it is he will return to MMA and provided an in-depth perspective on the controversial video of Ruben Alvarez kicking a fake black belt out of his gym. Lee Byrne began training in jiu-jitsu seven years ago under the Carlson Gracie system in Calgary, Alberta. He since moved to London, Ontario, where started his own team, Munda Jiu-Jitsu (@mundajiujitsu), which translates to clean jiu-jitsu, and is currently working out of the Adrenaline MMA facility. Lee Byrne, a competitor that is always looking for more experience, gave his thoughts on the Submission Series Pro and his opponent Cameron Florczak. He also touched on the growth of grappling in the southern Ontario area. Submission Series Pro takes place July 11 at the Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga, Ontario.
