Legendary's live-action Gundam movie is starting to take shape with new casting news, including Jason Clarke joining Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo. In this quick update, we talk about why the cast combo feels a little unexpected, why a Netflix release could be a huge missed opportunity for a franchise built for theaters, and why Jim Mickle (Sweet Tooth) being tapped to write and direct is the most encouraging part of the whole situation. The Rickey Smiley Morning Show opens with rising concern over the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie, as investigators confirm that the ransom deadline has passed with no further communication from suspected abductors. According to recent reports, law enforcement is still working around the clock and has released new surveillance images showing an armed individual tampering with the front‑door camera around the time she vanished. Savannah Guthrie continues pleading to the public for assistance as the FBI maintains a 24‑hour command post and stresses its need for credible tips. The show then shifts to the controversy surrounding comedian Cory Holcomb, who says he’s now losing gigs after surveillance footage surfaced showing him punching fellow comedian Cristina Payne, a video TMZ helped circulate widely. Holcomb claims the media fallout—not legal issues—is destroying decades of work, with venues distancing themselves due to the “optics” of the viral clip. Later, Spike Lee stops by for an energetic conversation celebrating School Daze’s legacy and sharing how the film inspired generations to attend HBCUs. The episode closes with an update on Discord, which is rolling out strict teen‑by‑default settings worldwide next month, requiring facial age‑estimation or government‑ID verification for users to access age‑restricted features—a move driven by global pressure to enhance online safety for minors. What is mindfulness really? According to one fourth-grader, "Not hitting someone in the mouth." Legendary meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg joins Rick and Forrest to discuss how we can work skillfully with anger, fear, and reactivity without becoming doormats or numbing ourselves out through the lens of her new children's book Kind Karl. They explore the protective function of anger, and how we can create more space by relating differently to our thoughts, emotions, and sense of self. Sharon shares a Buddhist lens that links anger and fear, and how looking closely at “what's in the anger” can help us get clarity without collateral damage. Along the way, they talk about the difference between healthy moral anger and the habit of anger, how to extract the positive energy from difficult emotions without getting burned, and how lovingkindness and self-compassion can be active, strengthening forces. About our Guest: Sharon Salzberg is the co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society, a world-renowned teacher of mindfulness, and author or co-author of 14 books including her seminal work Lovingkindness and her first children's book Kind Karl: A Little Crocodile with Big Feelings. Discograffiti is the deep-dive podcast for music obsessives. In this episode (Part 4 of a 4-part series edited down from a 5 1/2 hour interview), Lenny Waronker takes a deep-dive stroll along with host Dave Gebroe through his entire career, with priceless commentary and stories peeled off along the way. Legendary producer and Warner Brothers studio head Lenny Waronker is a record producer and music industry executive. As the president of Warner Brothers Records, and later, as the co-founder and co-chair of DreamWorks Records, Waronker was noted for his commitment to artists and his belief that "music, not money, was still number one." In 2025, Waronker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Ahmet Ertegun Award category for non-performing industry professionals. Part 4 focuses on the first album Lenny ever produced, Side 2 of Van Dyke Parks' legendary debut LP Song Cycle. Lenny once said: “To be associated with Song Cycle, even now, is more important to me than 99% of the hit records I've been involved with.” Parts 2 & 4 are an absolute dream come true for fans of this record. Here are just a few of the many things that Lenny discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast: The track on the LP that Van Dyke referred to as “like stepping from one kind of music into something else”; How Randy Newman feels about Nilsson Sings Newman, according to Lenny; A wildly divergent digression during which I discover the very direct link between The Beau Brummels and Rickie Lee Jones; An overview of Song Cycle's ad campaign, one of the most memorable and least conventional music industry experiments of all time; An in-depth deep dive on every song off Side Two of Song Cycle; The early days of getting Ry Cooder & Randy Newman's careers off the ground at Warner Brothers; Whether or not Van Dyke invented MTV a decade before its time; And an in-the-moment eulogy for Brian Wilson, who had died only days before the taping of this episode. What if the things you do every single day are quietly making you sick… and you don't even realize it? Harvard psychologist Dr. Ellen Langer, author of The Mindful Body, reveals the shocking ways our minds shape our health, aging, stress levels, and even how long we live—often without us noticing. In this mind-expanding of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, Dr. Langer explains why self-agency and making your own decisions can literally extend your lifespan, how expectations and beliefs shape disease progression, and why the real meaning of mindfulness has almost nothing to do with meditation. Dr. Langer breaks down: - Small, everyday habits that are secretly harming your health - Why stress is the #1 cause of illness (and not for the reason you think) - Whether healing timelines are based on real time or perceived time - Surprising benefits of positive thinking, even with terminal illness - Danger of labels, including words like “try” and “remission” - Why spontaneous remissions exist & why they're so hard to study - Simple ways to become more mindful right now, even if you've never meditated once in your life - Can we train ourselves to not need eyeglasses? - The real power of the placebo effect - Can the mind cure the common cold? - Psychological treatments for chronic illness - Who is more likely to get sick & why - How color influences our biology more than we think - Why spirituality requires presence and mindfulness - How to reframe negative circumstances into positive ones, and the health benefits of doing so - How her mother's battle with cancer inspired her groundbreaking research This episode will change how you think about healing, stress, aging, illness, and the true power of your mind over your body! Legendary technical analyst Michael Oliver delivers a stark warning on the fragility of U.S. sovereign debt, predicting a bond market crisis that could mirror Japan's spiral. Oliver frames the recent "jiggle in the middle" correction in gold and silver not as a top, but as a shakeout before a historic surge, driven by a massive structural shift out of paper assets. He points to the simultaneous breakdown in the dollar, a breakout in the commodity complex, and the "crisis mode" in global bond markets as converging forces. Arguing that old trading metrics are now obsolete, he projects silver could rocket to $300-$500 an ounce by summer, stating, "Old notions of overbought are incorrect... this is a rebirth to a new reality."✅ FREE RESOURCESDownload The Private Wealth Playbook — a data-backed guide to strategically acquiring gold and silver for maximum protection, privacy, and performance.
