Send us a textThis episode lit me up. I had the gift of sitting down with Julie Hornok and Dr. Regina Crone—co-founders of Labeled and Loved. Together, they've created something powerful for moms like us navigating disability and special needs: connection, purpose, and spaces where you don't have to explain yourself.Julie brings over 20 years of experience in the special needs world—as a mom, speaker, behavioral program facilitator, and author of United in Autism. You might've seen her featured on Focus on the Family, Today Parents, or even iHeartRadio. Her work-hard-play-hard energy is contagious.Regina, a Ph.D. and board-certified behavior analyst, was inspired by her brother's diagnosis. She owns Therapy & Beyond, and has spent decades presenting, writing, and supporting families across the country. Oh—and she lives on a farm in Texas with her crew, which includes chickens and cows. Her motto? “Go with the flow and eat chocolate.” Legendary. We talked about what it looks like to grieve expectations and still find deep joy. About the hard moments that no one prepares you for—and the small but bold steps that can shift everything. And we dove into the retreat they created just for moms like us (recently featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show, by the way).If you're feeling stretched thin, isolated, or like you've lost pieces of yourself along the way, this one will speak directly to your heart.Resources Mentioned:Labeled and Loved Retreat: October 10–12 in Dallas, TXSisterhood Circles: In-person & virtual support groupsUnited in Autism by Julie HornokTherapy and Beyond (Dr. Crone's clinic)Labeled and Loved featured on The Kelly Clarkson ShowGet The Special Needs Mom Survival Pack HEREConnect with Kara, host of The Special Needs Mom Podcast:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thespecialneedsmompodcast/Website: https://www.kararyska.com/
In this episode of the People of Packaging podcast, host Adam Peek sits down with Michael Houston, President & CEO of Future Blue Group and Co-founder of Shower Pouch, for an insightful conversation that delves into his extensive career in packaging and his passion for innovative, sustainable solutions.Michael's Journey: From Corporate Giants to Entrepreneurial VenturesMichael shares his impressive career trajectory, starting with his time at major CPG companies like Procter & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson, where he gained invaluable experience in packaging R&D and operations. He later transitioned to companies like Beachbody, where he began to focus on helping smaller businesses navigate the complexities of product development and market entry. His experience also includes roles at Unilever, working with beauty brands like Murad, Dermalogica, and Kate Somerville, and contributing to the Honest Company's IPO. This rich background has fueled his current entrepreneurial pursuits.Introducing Shower Pouch: The On-the-Go Hygiene SolutionA significant portion of the discussion revolves around Shower Pouch, a product born from a personal problem statement. Michael recounts how his father, serving in Afghanistan, highlighted the need for a better hygiene solution than just baby wipes. Collaborating with his business partner, Omar Jimenez (a talented chemist), they developed Shower Pouch – a high-quality, durable, and highly absorbent non-woven wipe designed to clean an entire body with just one product. The conversation touches on:* The Problem: Addressing the need for convenient and effective hygiene solutions for military personnel, hospital patients, and even active individuals on the go.* The Innovation: The use of a specialized non-woven material that is highly absorbent and durable, allowing for efficient cleaning.* Sustainability Focus: Shower Pouch is designed as a durable good, emphasizing reusability and minimizing waste. The packaging even suggests washing and repurposing the wipes.* Convenience: The product can be used on its own or heated for a more comfortable experience.* Availability: Shower Pouch is available on Amazon Prime and through their website, theshowerpouch.com.Future Blue Group: Driving Sustainable Packaging for CPG BrandsMichael's consultancy, Future Blue Group, leverages his deep industry knowledge to assist CPG brands in various aspects of packaging. The discussion highlights:* Key Areas of Focus: Future Blue Group helps brands with cutting-edge technical packaging solutions, cost reduction, enhancing packaging aesthetics, improving customer experience, integrating sustainability principles, optimizing supply chain operations, and accelerating market entry.* Industry Successes: Michael notes significant success working with brands in the supplement space, where he helps optimize packaging for shelf stability and manufacturability, moving beyond generic stock options. He also finds considerable success in the personal care, masstige, and prestige categories, where he navigates complex material and formulation challenges to ensure both aesthetics and functionality.* The Importance of Data: Michael emphasizes the critical role of data in making informed packaging decisions. He advocates for a scientific, objective approach to sustainability, starting with verifiable data rather than relying on "greenwashing" or gut feelings. This is where tools like Specright.com and Trayak become invaluable.Sustainability in Packaging: A Call for ClarityMichael offers crucial advice for brands tackling sustainability:* Define Your Sustainability: He stresses the importance of clearly defining what sustainability means for your specific brand – whether it's compostability, recyclability, durability, or a combination. A clear definition allows for quantifiable goals and avoids being "all over the place."* Embrace Material Science: Understanding the materials you're working with, their manufacturing processes, and their environmental impact is key to making truly sustainable choices.* Beyond Greenwashing: Move past superficial claims and commit to science-based decisions that genuinely reduce environmental impact, particularly focusing on reducing CO2 emissions.Connect with Michael Houston:* LinkedIn: Michael Houston* Future Blue Group: Find them on LinkedIn* Shower Pouch: theshowerpouch.com* Email: michael.houston@futurebluegroup.com This is a public episode. Legendary filmmaker Muzaffar Ali joins Cyrus Says for a deeply nostalgic and insightful conversation around the re-release of his classic film Umrao Jaan – digitally restored 44 years after its original release. In this episode, Muzaffar Ali opens up about: The painstaking process of restoring Umrao Jaan, supported by the Government of India’s heritage mission. Why Rekha was “a dream to work with” and how her performance remains iconic and irreplaceable. The making of a stunning coffee-table book filled with rare photographs, original sketches, and behind-the-scenes moments from the film. His multifaceted journey as a painter, poet, adman, publicist, and director. Deep reflections on migration, language, culture, and the lost purity of art in commercial spaces. Cyrus, meanwhile, attempts poetry, mispronounces Urdu, and even tries to cast himself in the Gaman remake — with hilarious results. This is a rare meeting of high art and complete nonsense. Come for Umrao Jaan, stay for the madness.

True Crime Tuesday presents: Greg Scarpa, Legendary Evil: The Many Faces of a Mafia Killer with Lawyer/Historian/Researcher/Author, Jonathan Dyer! Goodfellow, capo, killer, thief. A man so diabolically evil that he ordered his eldest son to murder his closest associate, and his youngest son to murder his best friend. When Greg Scarpa was in his early twenties he became a goodfellow in the Profaci family by swearing a blood oath to the Mafia, at the time the country's largest organized-crime syndicate. And for 25 years he betrayed that oath and the men closest to him by acting as a paid informant for the FBI. He fed America's premier law enforcement agency a steady stream of self-serving information accusing the men who trusted him with their lives of every crime he was himself committing. During those 25 years of treachery, Scarpa was a one-man crime wave who spent only 30 days behind bars thanks to his status as the FBI's ultimate Mafia insider. His standing as a prized informant freed him to engage in mayhem and murder knowing he had a virtual license to kill with reckless abandon. Greg Scarpa, Legendary Evil is a deep dive that provides fresh insight into Scarpa's malignant personality. Dyer peels back the layers of myth and misdirection to paint as complete and accurate a picture as possible of a man who murdered his enemies and betrayed his friends, of a bigamist who loved only money, of a feared and reviled man whose destructive appetites knew no bounds. On today's TCT, Jonathan Dyer sits down with us to talk about the complexities and dualities of the killer known as Greg Scarpa! Why did he treat he friends like family? His family like hired help? and why were his loyalties split down the middle between the Mafia and the FBI? How could a cold blooded, psychopathic killer still believe in doing the right thing?! Lee Cohen may be the most dirtbag ski bum I've had on the podcast, and that's an honor, but that was back in his early 20's. Eventually, Lee moved west from New York, picked up a camera and became the authority on what powder skiing photos should look like. Along the way, he followed the dead, had a pro skier kid, and shot some of the best photos that Utah skiing has to offer. It's a business episode with one of those early creatives, who maybe weren't all business, but still crushed it. Lee's kid, Sammo Cohen asks the Inappropriate Questions. On this episode of The Adam Carolla Show, comedian Jessimae Peluso stops by the studio! Adam starts off with a bleak observation about Malibu's slow recovery, noting that the local Equinox has been shuttered for six months while the Taco Bell across the street never closed. Jessimae and Adam take a look at Erewhon's absurd prices—including Hailey Bieber's $20 smoothie and question the legitimacy of trendy health fads like sea moss. They also weigh in on the bizarre cultural crossover of celebrities like Travis Scott having signature smoothies and McDonald's meals, and wrap up the segment with a cringe-worthy clip of E. Jean Carroll's awkward interview with Anderson Cooper. In the news, Jason “Mayhem” Miller joins to cover some wild headlines. A former MLB pitcher has been convicted of murdering his father-in-law in a chilling home invasion that involved hours of shocking security footage. Then, things take a lighter, but weirder turn with a viral TikTok story about single women in Manhattan allegedly stealing lunches to get dates, hoping a swiped salad will turn into romance via LinkedIn. Finally, they review a new 2028 Democratic primary poll showing Kamala Harris as an early frontrunner, despite her recent landslide loss to Donald Trump.Legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao calls in to talk about his upcoming WBC welterweight title fight against Mario Barrios. He opens up about how his training and recovery have changed with age, and reflects on his long relationship with legendary trainer Freddie Roach. Manny also shares thoughts on stepping away from politics to refocus on boxing, and discusses how his humble beginnings in poverty shaped his drive and determination.
