Peter Snowdon tells the story of his home track of Thruxton, from its role in the D Day landing right up to the present day. Paul Jurd and Paul Tarsey talk about the new book by Denis Jenkinson and Cyril Posthumous, re-worked by Doug Nye all about the Vanwall marque which upheld British honour in Grand Prix racing in the 1950s, and the challenge laid down to the team of Joe Bradley, Jim Roller and Peter Snowdon is ‘Perfect Dinner Party Guests' but the difficult bit is …. no drivers are allowed! Some interesting choices from the worlds of car design, circuits, manufacturers and a few surprises.
Being the month of May we sat down with Sir Stirling Moss to talk Monaco and the Mille Miglia. Moss famously won the latter in 1955 with Motor Sport's continental correspondent Denis Jenkinson aboard the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. In Monaco he also enjoyed great success with Grand Prix wins in 1956, 1960 and 1961. His last win there, when he held off the faster Ferraris behind him, is widely considered one of his greatest races of all time. We also take readers' questions which cover Moss' greastest corners, his retirement from racing and much more. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In 1955, the British driver Sir Stirling Moss, faced one of the biggest challenges of his career. He headed to Italy to race in the famous - and extremely dangerous - thousand mile race around the country known as the Mille Miglia. Sir Stirling's victory was one of the proudest moments of his career. In 2012, he discussed the race with David Prest. The programme is a Whistledown Production for BBC World Service. From what we hear from you readers our BBQ at the Hurlingham Club on September 18 went down very well, with classic cars on show, a silent auction and the guest of honour on good form. Sir Stirling talks plenty about his career, including his time with Denis Jenkinson on the Mille Miglia, so if you've ever wondered how they sorted out their bathroom breaks during the race, have a listen. If you'd never wondered about that, don't worry, there's a lot more besides. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
