To celebrate one whole year of That's Theatre Darling, the tables have turned...I, Amy Slater, have been placed firmly in the hot seat! The ever so brilliant Holly Henshaw and Rachel Middlemore, previous podcast guests, took my list of questions and seamlessly settled right into the role of co-hosts. It's a whistle-stop tour through my career in theatre so far, my rambly thoughts and some great memories. I hope you enjoy this special bonus episode!  If you fancy supporting the podcast please make sure that you like, subscribe, share with your friends far and wide. Step behind the scenes of the Victoria Palace Theatre in this very special episode, as host Giles Terera is joined by some of the brilliant Backstage and Front of House team who helped make the original London production of Hamilton such a massive, multi-award-winning success: Katy Bryant (Company Manager), Olivia Cass (Front of House), Heather Teasdale (formerly Deputy Stage Manager, and now Stage Manager), and Sharon Williams (Head of Wardrobe).Tune in to hear all about their fascinating, essential roles, find out how to tell if you've got a coffee problem, and learn which Hamilton cast member was sometimes deliberately told it was later than it was in the hope that they'd actually be ready for the start of the show. Plus, listen with bated breath as this week's guests compete for a money-can't-buy prize – Giles' potted cactus – by sharing their stories of what they were doing at a particular moment during the iconic song 'Wait For It'...Hamilton and Me: An Actor's Journal by Giles Terera – his account of researching, rehearsing and performing as Aaron Burr in the original London production of smash-hit musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda – is published on 1 July by Nick Hern Books. This week is a treat and a half, because I get to introduce you to my brilliant friend Edwina Allen! She is an incredible Deputy Stage Manager with so many good stories, words of wisdom and top DSM tips. We chatted about email signatures (top tip klaxon!), audience members weeing in an immersive show (!), and she blew my mind talking about a lack of confidence during the pandemic. It’s a DSM fest of an episode, and we had such a blast recording it. I hope you love it too! Chatting Sarah Barnes for this episode was an absolute treat. Barnes, as she is more commonly known in the industry, is a Freelance Deputy/Assistant Stage Manager. In her heart she prefers spending her time as a Deputy Stage Manager, but she also doesn’t mind picking up a props list and getting stuck into being an Assistant Stage Manager too. She explains to us what on earth all the acronyms mean when it comes to Stage Management, and what it is that each of those roles spend their time doing.During the episode we have a chat about how she went from wanting to be a Bank Manager, to ending up in this mad old world we call theatre; she impresses upon us the most important thing to have around during Technical Rehearsals, and we muse about where to get all the best gossip. It’s always a pleasure talking to Barnes, and this was no exception. I hope you enjoy the episode!

Welcome to the first episode of Standing By, a podcast where I, Alex Fernandes, try to have interesting chats with the people who work backstage in the theatre industry. In this episode I talk to Carly Hook and Karl Oskar Sørdal, Stage Manager and Production Manager for Richard Alston Dance Company. Thanks to both of them for letting me ruin their work breaks by recording them while I asked daft questions. Read the explanations below if you need some context for some of what was said: MIDI is a technical protocol that allows a variety of electronic devices to communicate with each other. In this context, RADC occasionally use MIDI to trigger lighting cues directly from specific moments in the soundtrack of their pieces. Richard and Martin (mentioned a few times) are Richard Alston and Martin Lawrance, the Artistic and Rehearsal Directors of RADC. DSM stands for Deputy Stage Manager. "Beginners" is typically used to describe the moment where the first performers are called to the wings or the stage, typically 5 minutes before the piece is to start.
