FrontStage BackStage with Jason Daye - Healthy Leadership for Life and Ministry
Top of 2025 // One of Our Most Engaged Episodes of 2025In our world, emotional distress seems to be increasing. So, can we integrate biblical principles, evidence-based insights from psychology, and spiritual practices to help us master our emotions rather than allowing our emotions to master us? In this week's conversation on FrontStage BackStage, host Jason Daye is joined by Dr. Kevin Chapman. Kevin is a licensed clinical psychologist and the Founder and Director of the Kentucky Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders. He leads the Sound Mind Ministries and hosts The Sound Mind Show on YouTube. His most recent book is entitled Mastering Our Emotions. Together, Kevin and Jason have a hope-filled conversation about how we can master our emotions through biblical principles and the power of Christ. Kevin also touches on some of the realities and some of the misconceptions about negative emotions and gives us practical ways that we, as ministry leaders, can help others overcome negative emotions through the power of Christ.Dig deeper into this conversation: Find the free Weekly Toolkit, including the Ministry Leaders Growth Guide, all resource links, and more at http://PastorServe.org/networkSome key takeaways from this conversation:Kevin Chapman on the connection between faith, intentionality, and the power of transformation that reaches both the heart and mind: "By partnering with the Holy Spirit and confronting those emotions, you're literally reprogramming your brain."Kevin Chapman on the importance of analyzing and understanding the broader aspects of emotions rather than solely experiencing or describing how they feel: "Focus on the features of emotions, not just the feelings of emotions."Kevin Chapman on the important role emotions play in guiding us through life and our spiritual journey: "Our emotions are meant to help us navigate our world, even to serve God, but we have to learn to regulate them."----------------Looking to dig more deeply into this topic and conversation? It was the biggest night of the year in a little town called Cornwall. It was the night of the annual Christmas pageant. Since there are no nearby malls or cities to compete with, the pageant is pretty much packed out every year. It's an especially big deal for the children in town. They get to try out for the roles in the Christmas story, and everybody wants a part. Which leads us to the problem of Harold. See, Harold wanted to be in the play, too, but he was...well, he was kind of a slow and simple kid. The directors were ambivalent, I mean, they knew Harold would be crushed if he didn't have a part, but they were afraid he might mess up the town's magic moment if he did. Finally, they decided to cast Harold as the innkeeper - the one who turns Mary and Joseph away the night Jesus is to be born. He only has one line: "I'm sorry, we have no room." Well, no one could imagine what that one line was going to do to everyone's Christmas. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "The Christmas Invitation." The night of the pageant the church was packed, as usual. I mean, the set was in place, and there was an entire wall with scenes of Bethlehem painted on it, including the door of the inn where Harold would greet - and then turn away - the young Jewish travelers. Backstage, the angels were playing Frisbee with their halos, and the shepherds were waiting 'till the last minute to put on their annually laundered bathrobes, and Harold was being personally coached by the nervous directors. "Now remember, Harold, when Joseph says, 'Do you have a room for the night?' you say...you say..." Hesitantly, Harold said, "I'm sorry. We... We have no room." The directors looked at each other somewhat hopefully. They'd done all they could. Well, the Christmas story unfolded according to plan - angels singing, Joseph's dream, the trip to Bethlehem. Finally, Joseph and Mary arrived at the door of the Bethlehem Inn, looking appropriately tired, discussing whether the baby might come tonight. Joseph knocked on the inn door. Backstage, the directors were just out of sight, coaching Harold to open the door now. And wouldn't you know it - the door was stuck! The whole set shook; Harold tried to get that door open. When he finally did, Joseph asked his question on cue: "Do you have a room for the night?" Harold froze. From backstage, a loud whisper: "I'm sorry. We have no room." And Harold mumbled, "I'm sorry. We have no room." And, with a little coaching, he shut the door. Well, the directors heaved a sigh of relief - prematurely. As Mary and Joseph disappeared into the night, the set suddenly started shaking again, and the door opened. Harold was back! And then, in an unrehearsed moment that folks would never forget, Harold went running after the young couple, shouting as loud as he could, "Wait! Wait! You can have my room!" I think little Harold may have understood the real issue of Christmas better than anyone there that night. How can you leave Jesus outside? You have to make room for Jesus. And that may be the issue for you this Christmas season. What will you do with this Son of God who came to earth to find you? This One who trades a throne room for a stable, angel praise for human mockery, this Creator who gives Himself on a cross? The Bible gives us the only appropriate response in Galatians 2:20, our word for today from the Word of God: "The life I now live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me." You look at what Jesus did to pay for your sin on that cross, and you say those life-changing words - "For me." Jesus is at your door this Christmas. Maybe He's been knocking for a long time and maybe He won't keep knocking much longer. All your life - even in the events of the last few months - it's been to prepare you for this crossroads moment with Jesus your Savior. I'd love to help you cross over as the Bible says, "from death to life" belonging to Jesus. Our website is there for that purpose - ANewStory.com. Don't leave Him outside any longer. Open the door this Christmas season. "Jesus, I cannot keep You out any longer. Come on in. You can have my room. You can have my life."

TALK TO ME, TEXT ITHoliday cheer is sweeter when you know how it's made. We start with a rapid-fire tour of the headlines—late-night lore about banned guests, a senator humbled by an elite workout, a baffling DOJ video release, and a quiet leadership shakeup—then step behind the curtain for the real story: a warm, detailed look at the Rockettes' Christmas Spectacular and the army of artists who make it glow. From April auditions to six-week training blocks, two full casts of 42 dancers carry a 90-minute wonderland with over 200 high kicks, eight head-to-toe costume changes, and the kind of split-second trust that only comes from relentless practice. We walk through the backstage choreography—quick-change booths, hand-painted shoes matched to skin tone, the iconic red lip—and the legendary 78-second turnaround that vaults the line from Parade of Wooden Soldiers into New York at Christmas as a full-size double decker bus rolls onstage. Add fairy drones gliding above the audience and you have old-world precision meeting modern stagecraft in perfect sync. It's not just the line. More than 200 crew and wardrobe pros power every cue, stitch, and light, keeping the machine tight through two to four shows a day for two months. The scale is staggering, but the spirit is intimate: craft as a promise, joy as the outcome. We share personal memories, geek out on the details, and daydream about interviewing the dancers and the backstage brains who turn timing into magic. Stick around for our holiday question—are you shopping online, in-store, or both?—and tell us how you're bringing a little spectacle to your season. If this deep dive into performance, precision, and holiday magic hits the spot, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review so more listeners can find us. Part-1: The Groypers. Ami breaks down what really happened behind the scenes at AmericaFest. After years of watching Turning Point from the outside, Ami attended Turning Point USA's AmericaFest 2025 as a VIP guest — backstage with speakers, organizers, and media figures, and on the convention floor where online politics become real life.In this first part of a two-episode series, Ami and Mike reflect on what surprised him most:What AmericaFest actually feels like from the insideHow conservative politics, religion, and internet culture are mergingWhy antisemitism is no longer fringe — and how it spreads offlineWhat changes when extremists stop being anonymousWhy conversation may work where institutions don'tThis isn't a viral takedown or a highlight reel. It's a thoughtful, firsthand account of a movement in flux — and how being there reshaped Ami's thinking.Part 2 will explore the internal fault lines between figures like Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, and Tucker Carlson, and what those tensions mean going forward.Follow Ami's House so you don't miss Part 2 — and share this episode with someone trying to understand what's actually happening on the American right.

In this episode, Jason Daye sits down with Nicole Massie Martin, Chief Impact Officer at Christianity Today, to explore the unseen pressures that can distort your leadership, whether it shows up as insecurity, performance-driven ministry, or quiet pride. You'll discover:Two extremes that distort healthy leadershipHow insecurity and overconfidence both miss the markThe concern with triumphalism in today's church cultureWhy Christ-centered leadership is both confident and humbleHow to embrace a cruciform vision of leadership that reflects JesusIf you've ever felt the pressure to perform, prove, or protect your platform, this episode offers a powerful reframe—anchored in the life of Jesus.Dig deeper into this conversation: Find the free Weekly Toolkit, including the Ministry Leaders Growth Guide, all resource links, and more at http://PastorServe.org/networkSome key takeaways from this conversation:Nicole Martin on the importance of cultivating a personal relationship with God that allows us to hear His voice: "Having a relationship with God where we can feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit, that is the best, most important information we need."Nicole Martin on the significance of recognizing when our drive for productivity is rooted in ego rather than purpose: "If I feel myself falling into workaholism, that's a sign that my ego might be out of check."Nicole Martin on the importance of using the power of the Holy Spirit to serve others and uplift those around us: "The point of you having power by the Holy Spirit is so that you can empower others and distribute that power in a way that gives glory to God."----------------Looking to dig more deeply into this topic and conversation? Welcome to Part 2 of our special coverage of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre's 37th Annual Festival of New Musicals. Each year, the NAMT festival shares 45 minute preview performances of 8 new musicals in development. Part 2 of our NAMT coverage features conversations with the writers of 4 of the 8 shows in this year's festival: The King of Harlem by John-Michael Lyles and David Gomez, Roja by Jaime Lozano and Tommy Newman, Wakeman by Jenn Grinels, and Alice Bliss by Karen Hartman, Jenny Giering, and Adam Gwon. We also share demo recordings of a song from each of these musicals so you can get a taste of the sound of each show. From The King of Harlem you'll hear “Federico” performed by John-Michael Lyles on vocals and guitar. From Roja you'll hear, “I Will See You Again (Te Veré Otra Vez)” with music and lyrics by Jaime Lozano and Tommy Newman, featuring Mayelah Barrera. This recording is from the album “Jaime Lozano & The Familia: Songs by an Immigrant Vol. 3” released by Concord Theatricals Recordings. From Wakemen, you'll hear “The Trio Song” performed by Jenn Grinels, Ari Notartomaso, and Beverly Anderson. And from Alice Bliss, you'll hear “Prologue/One More” performed by Jenny Giering. One of the most exciting parts of NAMT is that it serves as a hub for musical theatre writers and producers. While we were there, we also ran into and interviewed S. Todd Townsend and Kim Kibly, two of three writers of the musical Big Quarterly. Big Quarterly was a NAMT Recommended Musical. While it was not among the eight musicals selected for the festival, the panelists who reviewed the NAMT submissions were so struck by the work that they published a list of shows they feel should be shared with the musical theatre community. Big Quarterly was on that list. Big Quarterly was developed at Berklee NYC in the Writing and Production for Musical Theatre program, and we also interviewed Dan Marshall, an associate professor who helped develop the show. After that interview, you'll hear the song “Opening” from Big Quarterly. And finally, we ran into friends of the pod Harrison Bryan and Brandon Zellman, co-creators of Balls: The Monster Catchin' Musical. After their interview, we've included an excerpt of the song “What the World Should Be”, that features the show's villain, Warlordturtle, performed by Harrison Bryan. If you haven't already, check out Part 1 to hear interviews with the other NAMT writers, as well as more bonus content from musical theatre creators who were present at the festival. This week of Deck the Hallmark is presented by Racine Danish Kringles. Exclusive 10% off entire order - www.kringles.com // Promo Code: HALLMARK25---It's time to start our journey through the Thanksgiving week movies!Up first, we're joined by Alonso Duralde to dive into this year's big Saturday release: A Grand Ole Opry Christmas — where country music, Christmas magic, and time-travel nostalgia meet under one roof.ABOUT A GRAND OLE OPRY CHRISTMASGentry Wade, who gave up music after her father's death decades ago must confront her past when Nashville's Grand Ole Opry invites her to honor her late country star dad at their Christmas celebration.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR A GRAND OLE OPRY CHRISTMASNovember 29, 2025 | Hallmark ChannelCAST & CREW OF A GRAND OLE OPRY CHRISTMASNikki DeLoach as Gentry WadeKristoffer Polaha as MacBRAN'S A GRAND OLE OPRY CHRISTMAS SYNOPSISThe movie kicks off like you're watching a VHS of an old Opry performance: the Winters & Wade Farewell Show at the Grand Ole Opry Christmas Special.Cut to present day, where we meet Gentry Wade, daughter of Jett Wade. She gets a knock at the door from her pal Mac, who keeps pushing her to let him sign her and record some songs. She insists that's not happening.Mac owns a bar in Nashville, where Gentry works and is mostly happy—despite everyone constantly asking about her father. Why did he quit music? And where is his missing guitar?Family friend Rita stops by with a plea from the Opry: they want Gentry to attend the Opry's 100th anniversary to honor her dad. Gentry isn't sure.Over drinks, we learn that Mac and Gentry have been friends since high school, but Mac insists he has zero romantic interest in her. Mmmhmm. Sure, pal.Gentry, Mac, and Rita head to the Opry and tag along with a tour guide who looks suspiciously like Erin Cahill. Backstage, Gentry bumps into Von Winters, who asks why she's hesitant about attending the anniversary. She explains she always wanted to be a songwriter, but it didn't work out, and she never earned her place in the Opry Circle. Von tells her that her time may not be up—it's Christmas, after all.She goes out onto the Opry stage to think. A blinding light hits her and suddenly—she's transported back in time. There onstage are her dad and Von doing soundcheck. Before she can talk to him, she's zapped back to the present. She runs to tell Mac, who absolutely does NOT believe her.Determined, Gentry sneaks back onto the stage again. Another blinding flash—and boom—she's back in time, bumping into a younger Rita.Mac, worried about her, goes to the Opry. He sits in a pew, gets blinded by the light, and he time travels too. He finds Gentry and she explains they're in 1995, right before the final Winters & Wade performance. She tells him she needs to find out why her dad walked away from music. Young Rita spots them and assumes they're a married couple, insisting they stay at her apartment. The next day, Gentry goes to the Opry pretending to be a label rep so she can talk to her dad. Jett tells her he and Von are getting along great and have songs ready for their next album. This makes Gentry wonder if they're in some alternate timeline where the breakup never happens. Mac urges her to stop overthinking—maybe they were brought back for a reason.Later, Gentry overhears Von talking with their manager, who wants the duo to change their style. Jett is absolutely not on board. At a Christmas party, she overhears them discussing bringing in new writers. Jett is furious. When he sees her, he assumes she's part of the label agenda and storms off.Gentry goes outside to the fire pit with Mac and opens up about memories of her father, including a song they started but never finished. Mac asks her to sing it. She does—and Jett secretly listens from behind them. The next day, Jett approaches her to apologize and tells her the song is really good. He asks why she never finished it. She says he passed away before they had the chance. He invites her to come to the Opry the next day so they can work on it together. She agrees, and they spend the day bonding while Mac records a video of them singing. Their session is cut short when Von and the manager show up—they've moved the recording session up to December 26 to prep for a world tour. But that means Jett will miss Christmas with his family, and the long tour makes him uneasy. The next day, Jett is missing. Gentry knows exactly where to find him—his “thinking spot.” She and Mac go there, and she basically convinces him to walk away from the duo and choose family.Afterward, Mac and Gentry finally kiss. The next day, Von calls Gentry in and reveals he knows she's not a label executive—but he thinks she's a great songwriter and wants to work with her. Before the big performance, Jett tells Von he's out. This will be their final show.Right before the set, Mac realizes Jett doesn't have his pick. He runs it over, trips, falls onto a pew—BOOM—transported back to the present. After the show, Jett finds Gentry, gives her his guitar, and she hugs him. Suddenly—bright light—and she's transported back to the present with that very guitar in her hands.Von is about to give a speech and calls her up onstage. He tells her that her dad was proud of her and that they actually wrote a song together. Von knows. He invites Gentry into the Opry Circle. She speaks about her father, and Von reveals he invited Brad Paisley to perform the song she wrote with Jett. As the song plays, we see 1995 Jett return to the Christmas cabin and hug his family. In the present, Von says he's ready for that songwriting meeting. Gentry gives him her dad's guitar, then goes to talk to Mac—and they kiss again. Mac shows her the video he recorded of her singing with her father and tells her he can't remember a time he didn't love her. They kiss even more, right there in front of the Opry.
