Black households make up a disproportionate share of rent assistance recipients. Andrew Fenelon discusses how a “two-tiered approach to housing support" favoring white homeowners helped create the disparity.
Sometimes I feel like I take three spiritual steps forward and five backward. Do you get that same feeling? Sometimes it just looks like I'll never make real progress, and I'm frequently so very disappointed in myself. It's bad enough other people let us down all the time, but it's really difficult when we disappoint ourselves. Just recently I lost my patience with someone and raised my voice in anger. And a few minutes later as I calmed down and realized what I'd done, I just couldn't believe I had allowed that to happen. I was so disappointed in myself. With all I know and all I teach to others, how could I fail so miserably? I think it's healthy for us to realize not only will others disappoint us, we'll disappoint ourselves. We can't even trust ourselves. And from this, we can learn to trust God even more. An ancient saint of God, Fenelon, wrote the following: "Do not be surprised at again finding yourself becoming sensitive, impatient, haughty and self-willed. You must be made to understand that this is your natural disposition, and without God's grace, you will never be anything different." This is what we need to learn—that never will we be able to please God or ourselves on our own. C. S. Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity: "Very often what God first helps us towards is not the virtue itself but just the power of always trying again. It cures our illusions about ourselves and teaches us to depend on God. We learn, on the one hand, that we cannot trust ourselves even in our best moments, and on the other, that we need not despair even in our worst, for our failures are forgiven."[1] If you've been disappointed in yourself lately, use it as a time to cure your illusions about yourself, and remember even at your best, you have nothing to offer God except your heart and your will, and at your weakest and your worst, he can transform you into a vessel for his glory. Angels. In many people's minds, they're a New Age phenomenon, one that rational people ignore. But the true history of Christian history tells us a very different story, as Marge Steinhage Fenelon explains in her new book exploring a powerful devotion: the St. Michael Chaplet. In this wide-ranging conversation, Fenelon discusses the existence, roles, and importance of the angels for all of us as we live our Christian faith in these difficult times. Brian Penny, CEO of Wallbridge Mining (TSX: WM – OTCQX: WLBMF), joins me for a comprehensive exploration and development update at their flagship Fenelon Project, and the Martinière Project, with additional updates on regional exploration targets along the Detour-Fenelon trend, in Québec. We start off having Brian recap the key milestones and work programs from 2023, and then dive right into the work already completed or still ongoing in 2024, and the balance of the work and key news looking ahead. The overall drill program of 23,000 meters will be done in a few phases at various projects. At Fenelon, the Company has already completed 2,500 meters of drilling for both definition drilling and testing a few new areas, and those results should be coming out to the market in the near future. The 2024 drill program at Martinière, 30 kilometres west of the Company's Fenelon gold project and 45 kilometres east of Agnico Eagle's Detour Lake gold mine, will be conducted in two phases. In March, a diamond drill program with 7,500 meters kicked off using two rigs at its Martiniere gold project located in Northern Abitibi, Quebec. The goals of this first phase of drilling are to expand and upgrade the current gold resource; to collect a representative sample of mineralized material for metallurgical characterization studies; and to collect oriented drill core data to support geotechnical rock mass characterization studies. This first phase of drilling has been mostly completed, and the Phase 2 drilling will be based on the results returned from Phase 1 and is scheduled to commence in early Q3. The results from the Martiniere drilling program will be incorporated into a combined Fenelon/Martiniere Preliminary Economic Assessment (“PEA”) scheduled for completion in early 2026. We also touch upon additional regional drill targets at Fenelon and Martinière that may see some drilling this year, as well as the outlook at Detour East with their JV partner Agnico Eagle, and some additional drilling planned at the Casault Project, that they are optioning into with Midland Exploration. We wrap up discussing the recent participation in the private placement to raise capital for NorthX Nickel Corp. (formerly Archer Exploration Corp.) (CSE:NIX). If you have any questions for Brian regarding Wallbridge Mining, then please email me at Shad@kereport.com. In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Wallbridge Mining at the time of this recording. Click here to follow the latest news from Wallbridge Mining
In this interview James Fenelon discusses his new book entitled Indian, Black and Irish: Indigenous Nations, African Peoples, European Invasions, 1492-1790, recently published with Routledge (2023). The book traces 500 years of European-American colonization and racialized dominance, expanding our common assumptions about the ways racialization was used to build capitalism and the modern world-system. Professor Fenelon draws on personal experience and the agency of understudied Native (and African) resistance leaders, to weave a story too often hidden or distorted in the annals of the academy, that remains invisible at many universities and historical societies. Fenelon identifies three epochs of racial constructions, colonialism, and capitalism that created the USA. Indigenous nations, the first to be racialized on a global scale, African peoples, enslaved and brought to the Americas, and European immigrants. It offers a sweeping analysis of the forces driving the invasion, occupation, and exploitation of Native America and the significance of labor in American history provided by Indigenous people, Africans, and immigrants, specifically the Irish. Indian, Black and Irish makes major contributions toward a deeper understanding of where Supremacy and Sovereignty originated from, and how our modern world has used these socio-political constructions, to build global hegemony that now threatens our very existence through wars and climate change. It will be a vital resource to those studying history, colonialism, race and racism, labor history, and indigenous peoples. James Fenelon is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Indigenous Peoples Studies at California State University, San Bernardino. He is also currently the Lang Visiting Professor for Issues of Social Change at Swarthmore College. His books include Redskins? In the final episode of Season 3, Annika sits down with James Fenelon, a veteran-turned-historian, who served in the Army for over a decade and is a graduate of the US Army's Airborne, Jumpmaster and Pathfinder schools. They about his latest book, Angels Against the Sun: A WWII Saga of Grunts, Grit, and Brotherhood (Regnery, 2023), which chronicles the 11th Airborne Division, nicknamed "The Angels," and their campaign. A bit about the book: The Pacific theater of World War II pitted American fighting men against two merciless enemies: the relentless Japanese army and the combined forces of monsoons, swamps, mud, privation, and disease. General Joseph Swing's rowdy paratroopers of the 11th Airborne Division-- nicknamed the "Angels"--fought in some of the war's most dramatic campaigns, from bloody skirmishes in Leyte's unforgiving rainforests to the ferocious battles on Luzon, including the hellish urban combat of Manila. The Angels were trained as elite shock troops, but high American casualties often forced them into action as ground-pounding infantrymen. Surviving on airdropped supplies and reinforcements, the Angels fought their way across nearly impassable terrain, emerging as one of the most lethal units in the Pacific War. Colossians 1:24-29 Reimagining a Sacrificial Life August 14th Colossians 1:24 I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church. Colossians 1:25-29 25I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— 26the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord's people. 27To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. 2 Corinthians 11 23Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. Prayer of St. Philaret of Moscow (1782-1867) (from Francois de Fenelon, 1651-1715) O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace. Help me in all things to rely upon Your holy will. In every hour of the day, reveal Your will to me. Bless my dealings with all who surround me. Teach me to treat all that comes to me throughout the day with peace of soul and the firm conviction that Your will governs all. In all my deeds and words, guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all are sent by You. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others. Give me strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct my will; teach me to pray; pray You Yourself in me. Amen. Critical Journey Diagram 3 reasons we fail to move on: People get discouraged Get distracted Disobedient Ephesians 2:1-3 1Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. St John of the Cross - Process of maturity (bring up one at a time) You have to study the life of Christ Pursue the motives in which He did it Welcome spiritual resistance Reject being the center Embrace mystery Matthew 28 - The great commission Go and make disciples of all nations Baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit Teach these new disciples to obey the commands I've given you Be sure of this, I am with you always…
