June 10 to June 16, 1945   This is Summer of Trinity, for the week ending Saturday June 16, 1945.   Sunday, June 10,1945 - 36 Days Before Trinity It's the 71st day of the Battle of Okinawa https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_William_D._Porter_(DD-579) Monday, June 11,1945 - 35 Days Before Trinity It's the 72nd day of the Battle of Okinawa   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Miles_McCool Tuesday, June 12,1945 - 34 Days Before Trinity It is the 73rd day of the Battle of Okinawa.   General Eisenhower receives the “Freedom of the City” at London's Guildhall. This symbolic act, with seven hundred years of history behind it, makes him “a citizen of the city.” https://www.nps.gov/articles/general-eisenhower.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franck_Report       Wednesday, June 13,1945 - 33 Days Before Trinity It is the 74th day of the Battle of Okinawa.   Thursday, June 14,1945 - 32 Days Before Trinity It is the 75th day of the Battle of Okinawa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Inmate    Friday, June 15,1945 - 31 Days Before Trinity It is the 76th day of the Battle of Okinawa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calutron (How they enriched U-235 for Little Boy) https://www.atomicheritage.org/history/science-behind-atom-bomb   Saturday, June 16,1945 - 30 Days Before Trinity It's the 77th day of the Battle of Okinawa.    The Science Panel, headed by Robert Oppenheimer, and also including Enrico Fermi, Ernest O. Lawrence and Arthur H. Compton, gives the following report, classified Top Secret, to the Interim Committee: The report is titled “RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE IMMEDIATE USE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS” and begins as follows: [Note to self - some emphasis included here to assist in reading as a script, but there's no font differences in the original.] You have asked us to comment on the initial use of the new weapon. This use, in our opinion, should be such as to promote a satisfactory adjustment of our international relations. At the same time, we recognize our obligation to our nation to use the weapons to help save American lives in the Japanese war. (1) To accomplish these ends we recommend that before the weapons are used not only Britain, but also Russia, France, and China be advised that we have made considerable progress in our work on atomic weapons, that these may be ready to use during the present war, and that we would welcome suggestions as to how we can cooperate in making this development contribute to improved international relations. (2) The opinions of scientific colleagues on the initial use of these weapons are not unanimous; they range from the proposal of a purely technical demonstration to that of the military application best designed to induce surrender. Those who advocate a purely technical demonstration would wish to outlaw the use of atomic weapons, and have feared that if we use the weapons now our position in future negotiations will be prejudiced. Others emphasize the opportunity of saving American lives by immediate military use, and believe that such use will improve the international prospects, in that they are more concerned with the prevention of war than with the elimination of this specific weapon. We find ourselves closer to these latter views; we can propose no technical demonstration likely to bring an end to the war; we see no acceptable alternative to direct military use. (3) With regard to these general aspects of the use of atomic energy, it is clear that we, as scientific men, have no proprietary rights. It is true that we are among the few citizens who have had occasion to give thoughtful consideration to these problems during the past few years. We have, however, no claim to special competence in solving the political, social, and military problems which are presented by the advent of atomic power.   The report is signed by Robert Oppenheimer, with the note “for the panel” https://www.atomicarchive.com/resources/documents/manhattan-project/interim-committee.html   As this week ends, the Trinity atomic bomb test has not yet been scheduled. However, it is exactly 30 days away.    Summer of Trinity is a part of Mapping History here on The Latest Generation.

Even before Henry VIII succumbed to pressure and wedded Anne of Cleves, his attentions had turned to another lady at his court, Katherine Howard. The romance was supported by her uncle, the Duke of Norfolk, who had been trying to win back Henry's good graces ever since another one of his nieces, Anne Boleyn, had been dispatched in a Cromwellian conspiracy a few years earlier. Norfolk was clearly having a run of bad luck though, because it turns out that the teenaged Katherine - Henry was pushing 50 when all this got started - had been poorly used by a music teacher at the boarding home where she had been sent because of her family's deep poverty, and had been intimate with an age-appropriate boyfriend before being sent to Henry's court to serve as a lady-in-waiting. None of which was known to Henry when he finally wed her on July 28, 1540, the same day that he had Thomas Cromwell executed. The honeymoon was not to last, however, as by the following spring, Katherine was sharing the affections of royal counselor Thomas Culpeper, whose secret assignations with the queen were being facilitated by Jane Boleyn, Katherine's lady-in-waiting and the widow of George Boleyn, who had been executed with Anne. Everything went disastrously, of course, and Katherine Howard and Jane Boleyn were executed on the Tower Green on February 13, 1542, a few months after Culpeper and her boarding house boyfriend had experienced the same fate at the Guildhall. Ep.221 Shinique Smith. Known for her monumental fabric sculptures and abstract paintings of calligraphy and collage, Smith's personal histories and belongings intertwine with thoughts of the vast nature of ‘things' that we consume, cherish, gift, and discard and how these objects resonate on intimate and social scales. Over the last twenty years, Smith has gleaned visual poetry from textiles and explored concepts of ritual using breath, bunding and mark-making as tools toward abstraction. Her layered works range from palm-sized bundled microcosms to monolithic bales to massive chaotic paintings that contain vibrant and carefully collected mementos from her life. In October 2023 the story of the discovery of a stage floor that dated from before the Elizabethan period in St George's Guildhall in Kings Lynn hit the news. The attrition to the headline writers was the fact that that very stage had probably supported Shakespeare as he acted as part of a playing troupe on stage. Of course, that is a great hook for the story as the interest in Shakespeare goes well beyond those of us immersed in the history of theatre and the idea that we can still share a space like that across four hundred years is a beguiling one. I remember standing on the original floor of Anne Hathaway's cottage in Stratford Upon Avon and feeling a very similar thrill, but there is much more to the story of St George's Guild Hall at King's Lynn, a venue for theatre for not just four hundred years, but at least six hundred, making it the UK's oldest working theatre. So, I was very pleased when Tim Fitzhigham, Creative Director of the Guildhall Theatre agreed to come onto the podcast and talk about St George's Guildhall and that stage.Tim Fitzhigham is the Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Creative Director appointed to oversee the revival of St George's Guildhall. As well as leading this extensive project he is currently completing his PhD on Robert Armin, an actor in The King's Men who originated many of the clown and fool roles in all but the earliest Shakespeare plays and was a well-known playwright and author in his own right.Links to the St George's Guildhall Websitehttps://stgeorgesguildhall.comand Instagram Accounthttps://www.instagram.com/stg.guildhall/ Support the podcast at:www.thehistoryofeuropeantheatre.comwww.patreon.com/thoetpwww.ko-fi.com/thoetp Hosted on Acast. Episode 302: Gossip and the Acting Community

Acting Business Boot Camp

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 18, 2024 14:55

This week we're going to talk about gossip. Oh my god, I used to love gossip.  I used to love to talk about other people, what they were doing. Ugh, it was so amazing. Can you tell I was a teenager in the 80s?  But today I'm going to talk about why gossip is actually not that great.  And I have really been the target of gossip as well, and maybe I had to burn through some karma there.  It's really hurtful, so hurtful when you are the one being gossiped about and you find out that somebody else is saying something about you, whether it's good or bad.  If it's good, it's nice, but if it's not so nice, it's not great. And I think we probably have all been on both sides of it. If not, you're probably not human.  But I want to talk about why it's not great as an actor.  And it's something that I have really honed in on.  It's been a long time now, but yeah, it's just something that I've really tried to curb. Because it's not nice. Gossip isn't nice. And I know this is not this might be one of those podcasts where you're like, I don't want to listen to this one. Let's listen to another one.  But if you're feeling that way, make your ears grow bigger.  So here's the thing about gossip. Number one. I have five points about this. It erodes trust. Yeah. It's very hard for me to trust someone who's talking shit about somebody else.  Basically, what it does is gossip, it undermines. It undermines trust. It really undermines, and I also, there was once I had an acting teacher at Guildhall who said, if you don't want to be judged, don't judge. Because it really undermines trust, and especially if you're in a production of some sort, whether that be film, television, theater, commercial, it doesn't matter, it really erodes trust.  It also creates an environment, and you create your own environment in this industry of suspicion. And it breeds insecurity. Oh my god, let's talk about acting class.  I want my acting class where I need to be free, to be free of gossip and bad talk.  And the thing is that people then if there's an environment of that, you become wary.  You become wary of sharing personal information that really might be helpful for the work. And isn't that what we're trying to do? To become better actors. They may feel or someone may feel or I may feel that information that I shared while trying to find truth in a character might be misused or spread or might damage a relationship.  So this idea that, gossip at the moment sometimes it feels so good, and let's talk about why it feels so good. It feels so good because it gets the focus off of ourselves.  I have to tell you, I just had this feeling come over me, which was like, yuck. And that's the whole thing. Gossip is really yuck.  Because what it is doing is It brings me back to this phrase, winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners. And that's why gossip is so harmful to us, but also to others.  But I wanted to do a podcast about this because I feel this is not a subject that is brought up enough around in the acting community.  And it needs to be because we are a creative community.  The other thing is, and this is, it's very painful is that it really can damage people's reputations.  There's two sides to every story, and maybe we don't know the whole story.  And also, why is it our business? I find I, in the past, I've tried to make something that isn't my business, because I didn't want to focus on my life and take responsibility for what is going on with me. And damaging somebody else's reputation is so unfair. It's so unfair.  The thing is that when we keep the focus on our own lives and our own creativity and on our acting training and on our business and on our core work, when we do that, man, we don't have freaking time to gossip or to focus on somebody else. And also, I was teaching this in my private class and actually in the weekly class as well, this thing about assumptions. We assume things about people. Or we assume that somebody means something when they don't.  Watch assuming that somebody means the same thing that you do.  We always want to get clarity. Are you saying, just so we're clear, nobody ever is upset about getting clarification.  I once heard that assumptions are the mother fucker of all fuck ups, and that is such a great phrase.  So I don't want to assume something about somebody else, just because somebody else had said it about them. And this is a biggie. This is a biggie. You know what gossip also does? It increases stress and anxiety.  And I don't know about you guys. I don't know about you. I don't need any more stress. I don't need any more anxiety.  And this is the thing, it also can make you feel very isolated.  You think that you're connecting with somebody about how bad somebody else is or what somebody else did. But ultimately, it's going to lead to some kind of anxiety and possibly even some kind of depression, depending on which way of the spectrum you like to go. I personally like to freak the fuck out rather than get depressed. But, whatever your bag is. And it can negatively really impact your mental health when we talk about others. And look, I've done it! I have done it! I used to do it a lot! Especially as a teenager. I didn't know any better.  But these are the things we want to think about. Because again, what are we trying to do?  We're trying to do that thing that we most need to do, which is keep the focus on ourself and as actors on our acting training, becoming a better actor, moving ourselves forward in business and doing the work on ourselves. So when those opportunities come, we are ready for them and gossip has no place in any of that.  And again, going on this idea of the toxicity. of gossip, is we want to create health in our lives.  And what gossip does is it really creates like a toxic work environment.  And that work might be in our very own apartment while we're chatting on the phone, or negatively texting about somebody, or negatively emailing about something. That might get passed along. We don't need that.  We don't need that. We want to create support and love in our lives.  The last thing that I want to say about gossip is that it's time consuming.  Because let me tell you, it's going to be easy to find somebody who's going to want to jump right in there with you. Jump on the bad, the hate bag bandwagon. We don't need to do that with gossip. Other people, and we don't need to do it to ourselves.  Because that energy could be spent on productive tasks.  That energy could be spent on becoming more efficient in our acting career. Becoming more focused on our acting career. And that will stop us from being more positive.  If you find yourself doing this, and this is a big one again, it's using your mind to govern your brain, I beg of you, catch yourself, just stop. Stop.  Apologize to the other person. Say, you know what? I want to stop this because this is not making me feel good and I'm sure on some level it's not making you feel good either. Let's just stop. Let's talk about something else.  It's okay to do that. It's okay to do that, especially when you're moving yourself in a more positive direction.  Okay, one more thing. Just thought of this. It wastes energy. And we really only have a finite amount of time and a finite amount of energy. Let's make sure we're doing it that's moving us towards something good, Like a fabulous acting career. And a fabulous life.

But Guild Hall is not like other arts institutions, and Andrea Grover is not your basic nonprofit CEO. Try out The Weekly Accountability Group Book a Free Consultation with Peter This podcast is called what's at stake. AKA the most important podcast you'll ever listen to.  There's that phrase that says that life is not a dress rehearsal.  And for those of you who are in your teens, 20s, 30s, and I'll be even honest, your 40s, I didn't get that then. I didn't.  I didn't get that life is not a dress rehearsal, but this is it. I didn't get that till 51. It was the end of COVID, and I was sitting on the balcony in our then apartment, and it was a beautiful apartment, it overlooked Marina del Rey and the water. And I realized at that moment. That I was not living up to my full potential in my life, and I had just had a year off as we all did of being isolated, and I don't know maybe that's what it took, a year of slowdown, to have it really sink in that this is it. There's not going to be another 50 again. There's not going to be another 49, there's not going to be another 48, there's not going to be another 47 and go all the way down to zero.  There isn't going to be that anymore. That this is it.  And what do I want to do with it? And while I was saying, what do I want to do with it?  What do I want to do with this gift? Because it seemed to me, at 51, I was not really showing up for what I really wanted. and what I really wanted the second act of my life to be. And it started out with, I looked I was, I remember the way I was sitting and I looked down at my waist and I went, there's a really healthy body underneath there.  And I started with that, I started with the discipline of, and I'd always exercise because I had a back injury when I was at Guildhall, and I started with that, and I started with that discipline, and I took that discipline into everything, because how we do one thing is how we do all things. And I want to read you a quote that I think also influenced my decision.  And you know where this homework assignment is going, right?  It's a Jen Sincero quote, and she writes the badass books. Now, I'm going to be honest with you, I did change one little bit out of this quote for the purposes of this podcast, but I think you'll get why I did that. “Because this is what I realized. You're gonna have to push past your fears.  Fail over and over again. And make a habit of doing things you're not so comfy doing.  You're gonna have to let go of old limiting beliefs and cling to the decision to create the acting career that you desire like your life depends on it. Because guess what? Your life does depend on it.” And that's the truth. That's the truth, and that's the realization that I got at such a deeper level three years ago.  You're going to have to push past your fears, and you're going to have to fail over and over again.  And you're going to have to make a habit of doing things you're not so comfy doing. And I talk about with my in my weekly class with actors, if you're interested in that. It is a very affordable class, and we offer a class for free.  I talk with them about how when you're exercising, when it starts to feel uncomfortable, that's when you're building strength. Not hurt. But when it starts to feel uncomfortable, that's when you're building strength.  Guess what? That's what it's like in life too.  It's doing the uncomfortable things.  So if you are ready to do some uncomfortable things, if you're willing to push past your fears and fail over and over again because the other thing I have learned is that it is in my biggest mistakes, I have my biggest lessons and I have my biggest growth. Let me repeat that. It's when I have my biggest mistakes that I have my biggest growth.  I have my biggest learning.  And you're gonna have to make a habit of doing things that aren't so comfy, if you are willing to do that. And finally, really and become. I hope you will honor me and let me honor you. That's actually where I want to go. Let me honor you with a free consultation. Let's talk this out. You're not alone in this journey. You don't have to be alone.

In April I found a hard drive containing audio from four investigations that I conducted in 2011 and 2012. Dozens of hours of audio that I lost around a decade ago, and I thought was lost forever. These were four absolutely incredible locations, and I have covered all four investigations - minus the audio from that night - on the podcast previously. So in the Patreon specials across June, July, August, and September I will revisit those episodes and add in the audio, which was seemingly lost forever. This time it's time to head back to York Guildhall. What if strength isn't about how much we can lift, but how we manage life's struggles? What if we've been told lies our whole life about what it means to truly TAKE UP SPACE? What if failing isn't the end of a goal, but helps you set the goal itself? Today's SEASON 9 FINALE episode is with the incredible Alyssa Ages — journalist, strongman competitor, and author of SECRETS OF GIANTS: A Journey To Uncolver The True Meaning of Strength. IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT: The importance of asking WHY, not HOW How endurance athletes frame FAILURE, and how to use this specific tactic in your own life way beyond achieving strength goals Why it's so hard for women especially to TAKE UP SPACE, the sneaky language to watch out for, and how to reframe your relationship with it The importance of using the word YET "BULK" (this is mind-blowing!) What Alyssa did when she realized the story she'd been telling herself for a DECADE was a lie Strength as we AGE and how to reverse hamful narratives even if we think "it's too late" and so much more! This is an episode you'll want to share with your friends, parents, grandparents, siblings, and more.  Thank you for making Season 9 one of the best yet. See you in September for Season 10! ~ ABOUT ALYSSA: Alyssa Ages is the author of SECRETS OF GIANTS: A Journey to Uncover the True Meaning of Strength (Avery/Penguin Random House) and a journalist whose work has appeared in ELLE, SELF, GQ, Slate, The Globe & Mail, and others. She is a mom, strongman competitor, endurance athlete (six marathons & an Ironman), rock climber, CrossFitter, and former member of the Jersey City Bridge & Pummel roller derby team. Her first book, Secrets of Giants (Avery/Penguin Random House, 9/23), is part personal narrative, part research mission, part midlife crisis odyssey into the world of strength to answer the question: What if strength isn't about how much we can lift, but how we manage life's struggles.   ~ SHOW NOTES: Buy SECRETS OF GIANTS Alyssa's website Alyssa on IG Alyssa's speaking page ~ TICKETS to WANT YOUR SELF: A Book Launch Cabaret at The Bourbon Room on 7/16 TICKETS to MODERN FRIENDSHIP at Guild Hall in conversation with Anna Goldfarb on 6/30 ~ Join THE WANT COMMUNITY!  Buy WANT YOUR SELF  Follow Katie on Instagram Leave a review of the WANTcast on iTunes (and SUBSCRIBE/FOLLOW if you haven't already!) In 2008, Larry Rivers 16 foot tall "Legs" was installed outside a private residence in Sag Harbor. The usual questions abounded; was it art, was it a structure, did it have a place as a public art display. An East End version of a centuries old battle over what can be deemed art, what can't, and who can judge the difference? In fact, in 1989 East Hampton Village banned outside displays of art within its historic district where Guild Hall, an arts center and museum, sits on Main Street within the district. Esperanza and Irwin engage in a free wheeling discussion of all of the above, with an impromptu musical interlude to boot.

This is episode 170 and the sound you're hearing is the cheering and the flaming hot emotion because Sir Harry Smith is back in town! The town is Cape Town — Sir Harry won't hang around there for too long, he as you know from the previous episode, has returned to South Africa to take up his new position as Governor of the Cape. Sir Harry was the former civil commissioner of the de-annexed Province of Queen Adelaide in the Eastern Cape and in June 1840 he'd left Cape Town to take up a post as Adjutant-General in India. There is this incredibly long history of connection between India and South Africa, and people like Smith were part of that history. Others of course are people like Gandhi, but that's a story for further down the road. Smith was courageous, whatever other faults he may have had, and was involved in a sensational victory at the Battle of Aliwal in India on 28 January 1846 during the first Anglo-Sikh War. That victory led to a promotion to Major General, and he was offered an accepted a baronetcy. The British parliament formally thanked Smith, and then returned to England where the extremely bloated ego he'd developed over the past few decades was further fluffed up. While in England he'd spent a lot of time with the Duke of Wellington who'd defeated Napoleon, and with the Duke's support, he convinced the British government that the festering sore of the Eastern Cape of South Africa could be healed. This expensive disaster after disaster he said could be resolved quickly, and even more importantly, cheaply. When he returned to England in 1847, Harry Smith was treated like royalty, greeted at Southampton by artillery salutes, church bells rang, thousands of people cheered him, a special train was laid on to take him to London, where he received the freedom of the Guildhall. He dined with Queen Victoria, and was pretty much the first authentic military hero of the Victorian era. Waterloo was 30 years earlier, a long way off, and there'd been very little military glory since. Thus, Wellington whispered in the ears of the powerful, and that is how Harry Smith was appointed the new Governor of the Cape, strategically important but infuriatingly complex. All settlers agreed, the Queen had made a perfect appointment. As we're going to hear, this was going to be possibly her worst appointment anywhere up to then. All the hero worship was going straight to this little man's head. He was short, so by little I mean horizontally challenged. Doing the hard work of making sense of negotiations were the translators. These were men, black and white, who had a vast influence on our history. Smith said to Sandile that he should leave Grahamstown and go to his people, whereupon the translators claim Sandile said “No — I will stay today near you, my former and best friend…” Historians believe these exchanges were embroidered, altered, and added to the misunderstandings. Many of the translators were sons of missionaries, or settlers who'd grown up speaking amaXhosa fluently. But they fed Smith what he wanted to hear. The very same translators had been at work when Sandile was taken into Grahamstown to be placed under house arrest so you can see that their editorialising was having an effect on history.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles broke royal norms by having a modest civil ceremony at Windsor's Guildhall on 9th April, 2005. Against a turbulent backdrop of past scandals and public opinion, the couple's union marked a delicate dance toward Britain's eventual acceptance of them as King and Queen. Queen Elizabeth did not attend the ceremony, for fear of compromising her position as head of the Church of England, but did turn up with Rowan Atkinson and Phil Collins to the after-party, where she made a notoriously cheeky speech, as guests munched on egg-and-cress sandwiches. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why the couple married in the Guildhall, rather than Windsor Castle; consider how ‘the Firm' iterated Camilla's public image in the decades following Princess Diana's untimely death; and trace the couple's romance back to their first meeting in the Summer of 1970… Further Reading: • ‘Charles and Camilla wed' (The Guardian, 2005): https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2005/apr/09/monarchy.markoliver • ‘Inside King Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles' Wedding' (Harpers Bazaar Australia, 2005): https://harpersbazaar.com.au/charles-camilla-wedding/ • ‘The Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles' (ITN, 2005): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgeXK5cKatA Love the show? Hear about travel to Long Island, New York as the Amateur Traveler talks to Vanessa Gordon from EastEndTasteMagazine.com about her home. https://amateurtraveler.com/travel-to-long-island-new-york/ Why should someone go to Long Island? Vanessa says, "Long Island, there truly is so to discover, even from living out here for many years, whether part-time or full-time there's truly so much to do, whether you're in Nassau or Suffolk County, the two counties that make up Long Island. I've lived here in the Hamptons, been here for over 30 years and this New York region never ceases to amaze me. There are ocean beaches. We have Bay beaches. We have beautiful nature preserves, bountiful farmers markets, and endless amounts of summer events." Vanessa suggests visiting Long Island in September or October, mentioning the abundance of events, family activities, and cultural events during these months. She shares her favorite spots in Montauk, including the Montauk Point Lighthouse and the opportunity for seal watching and whale sightings. Moving to Shelter Island, Vanessa recommends taking the ferry and exploring the island's unique attractions, such as Rams Head Inn and Mashomack Preserve. She also suggests Sunset Beach as a hotspot for live music and sunsets. Vanessa then talks about Sag Harbor, her favorite village, and its family-friendly beaches. She highlights The Beacon restaurant and Barron's Cove Hotel for breathtaking sunset views. The discussion extends to wineries on the North Fork, with recommendations like Wolfer Estate and Channing Daughters. She covers various family-friendly activities, including museums like the Parrish Art Museum and Guildhall and theaters such as Bay Street Theater. Vanessa mentions the presence of celebrities in the fall. The itinerary continues with a move to Riverhead, described as the gateway to the North Fork and South Fork. Vanessa appreciates the town's historic charm, new businesses, and attractions like the Long Island Aquarium. She highlights the East End food market as a one-stop shop for local food purveyors. Vanessa suggests considering staying in Brookhaven instead of the Hamptons to save on your travel budget. She highlights Patchogue on the Great South Bay as a vibrant spot, particularly for nightlife, and recommends Fire Island for its popularity among the LGBTQ+ community. She emphasizes historical sites like Fire Island Lighthouse and Bellport, suggesting the Bellport Inn as a cozy stay. Moving to the "Gold Coast" on the north shore, Vanessa mentions historic mansions like Teddy Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill, the Old Westbury Gardens, and Oheka Castle, the latter featured in a Taylor Swift music video. She advises dividing mansion visits over two days. Whether you are visiting Long Island on your yacht or by train, whether you are visiting mansions or living in one, this area near New York City offers a very different world to the city with its beaches, farms, and vineyards.
