Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we go back into the horror time machine once again, this time to the 1960s, to discuss gothic horror! Yes, we are going back to the 1960s to explore the first ever Hot Topic sto… oh wait, whoops wrong version of “goth” (we're also not talking about the people who brought down the Roman Empire in the fifth century). No, instead of once again talking Tim Burton (Curtis' favorite director) we're discussing the cobweb filled, foggy, and presumably musty pioneering subgenre of gothic horror popularized from almost the advent of the genre. Does Curtis make this Hot Topic/Tim Burton joke multiple times? How many rubber bats can one movie have? Does Taylor always compliment child actors? Listen and find out! On THIS podcast… we cover it all! Please connect with us on Twitter: @ahhreelfilms or Instagram: @ahhrealfilms, or drop us a line to let us know how we're doing, or to suggest a future topic or film to discuss: ahhrealfilms@gmail.com. Welcome ladies, germs, and people of all genders! Join Taylor & Curtis as we discuss one horror’s many sub-genres: science fiction horror! Yes, finally we discuss the crossover genre made in heaven, the Reece’s Peanut Butter cup genre, the uh… hot dog and macaroni cheese of horror and mostly give ourselves an excuse to cover the Fly in detail. Is the “brundle” a body part and, if so, what is it? Does Curtis make bad analogies about peanut butter cups (including here!) far too much? Do we REALLY want to know more about the cat-monkey? And, finally, wow, do Curtis and Taylor ACTUALLY disagree about a movie?  Listen and find out! Please connect with us on Twitter: @ahhreelfilms or Instagram: @ahhrealfilms, or drop us a line to let us know how we're doing, or to suggest a future topic or film to discuss: ahhrealfilms@gmail.com. Why you have to check out today’s podcast:  Learn why the Less-Than-Truckload industry is different from other logistics services  Discover the pricing complexity in the Less-Than-Truckload industry  Find out the different struggles within the Less-Than-Truckload industry when it comes to pricing their services   Curtis Garrett is the VP of Pricing at Recon Logistics, a world class LTL Freight Management Company. Curtis is on a mission to simplify LTL Freight. His career-long goal is to bring transparency, automation, and the tools needed to do this into the LTL industry.   In this episode, Curtis talks about the pricing design in a Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) industry, sharing the complex variables that go into the LTL price mix. He also shares some personal backstory of how he was able to advance and uplevel his pricing career, proving that you don’t need a college degree to have a great career. Take inspiration from Curtis’ success journey in pricing.    “As long as you are well aware of what your costs are, that gives you the freedom to build your actual profit and your margin in different ways. And make it a little more flexible for who you're trying to engage with.” - Curtis Garrett   Increase Your Pricing Knowledge: Become a Champions of Value INSIDER! But it's even more complex, in my opinion, because a seat on an airplane or room in a hotel, you pretty much know there's no space variable there. But with LTL freight, you really don't know the size of the freight you're going to get and how much room it's going to take up in your trailer.” - Curtis Garrett  “The balance of keeping that larger macro strategy in your mind, but in the day in, day out, or even minute by minute, making sure that what you're doing is the best possible work at that time.” - Curtis Garrett  “I don't think any wall that can be pushed over is the right wall you should be pushing against anyways. If it is something of value and the right problem to be solved, I think by default, it's gonna take a while and it's gonna be hard.” - Curtis Garrett  “I think anybody can be successful and if there are large companies out there that hold back candidates just because of that one disqualifier, then, I think they're probably missing out on a lot of good people.” - Curtis Garrett    Resources Mentioned: Todd Polen    Connect with Curtis Garrett: reconlogistics.com  LinkedIn    Connect with Mark Stiving:     Email: mark@impactpricing.com     LinkedIn

Today we welcome back Curtis Watkins, CEO of BovaMetrics, to the Charlotte Angel Connection.  As we learned last week, BovaMetrics is a young Fintech company based in Charlotte.  BovaMetrics has developed a proprietary model designed to capture opportunities and add value in a client’s existing portfolio – in essence merging an advisor’s knowledge of the client with an artificial intelligence platform. Last week, we spent time talking about how Curtis ended up as the CEO of BovaMetrics, what he’s learned over the years working with startups and established companies, and This week, we discussed some of the following: What’s different about starting a company in 2001 (Curtis’ first startup) and 2018? How does BovaMetrics begin to execute their strategy after raising a pre-seed round late in 2017 and early 2018? How does he handle recommendations from a potential investor knowing the investor may be pleased with Curtis’ agreement in the investor’s recommendation, thus, leading to a higher chance of receiving an investment? Does Curtis expect help from the city’s entrepreneur system since Charlotte has staked a claim on Fintech – where his company clearly sits? What’s the support network like for Charlotte area founders? Why isn’t Curtis scared of someone stealing the concept/idea of BovaMetrics? Next week, we turn back to talking with an angel investor in the first of a two part series with T.J. Eberle.  T.J. has been an angel investor since selling his business in 2011 and is active in the Charlotte area investing scene.  We recently sat down with T.J. for an hour to discuss a number of interesting?
