Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are here today, February 16th, 2023, with 'The MMA Vivisection' PRELIMS SHOW; breaking down a set of 6 bouts on the 'UFC Vegas 69' Prelims card. 'Andrade vs Blanchfield' is an 11-bout Fight Night event... "It's really kind of the UFC to rent out the Octagon to KOTC this week. The main event represents a big step up for Erin Blanchfield, taking on former strawweight champ Jéssica Andrade. Everything after that is filler. For listeners looking to support our podcasting work as Bloody Elbow leaves the VOX network of sites, we now officially have a 'Vivisection/6th Round/MMA Depressed-us' Patreon. Both event week shows will continue to be posted, for free on BE, SoundCloud, YouTube and other podcasting apps going forward. However, the Patreon will give fans exclusive access to our non-event week, 'The MMA Depressed-us' podcast, from here on out." - Zane Simon 2.16.23 Become a devoted degenerate Patron here: https://patreon.com/mmavivisection?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan&utm_content=join_link For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the MAIN CARD, check out that version of the MMA Vivi every Thursday, right here on our SC channel. The UFC is showcasing a World Championship Doubleheader this weekend at their UFC 274 PPV event. The first title fight in our Main Event will be a collision between now ‘former' UFC Lightweight Champion, Charles ‘Do Bronx' Oliveira, and Former Interim Lightweight Champion and #1 ranked contender, Justin ‘The Highlight' Gaethje. In our second title fight of the night, we will have the battle for the Strawweight Championship. “Thug' Rose Namajunas, holding an 11-4 record, fighting out of Colorado as well, holds the distinction of being the two-time and current Strawweight Champion. Meanwhile, the #2 ranked contender, Carla ‘Cookie Monster' Esparza, is holding an 18-6 record, fighting out of California. She holds a brown belt in BJJ and her finishes include four knockouts, and four submissions. Also on the PPV card, we have Lightweights ‘Iron' Michael Chandler vs. Tony ‘El Cucuy' Ferguson going to war in what is sure to be a barn burner. Neither of these guys know how to put on a boring fight. Meanwhile, legendary fighters, Ovince St. Preux and Mauricio ‘Shogun' Rua will clash in a Heavyweight bout on the main card. Bloody Elbow fight expert, Zane Simon is here, joined by his co-hort, Eddie Mercado. We recorded for you on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, with a breakdown of the UFC 274: ‘Oliveira vs. Gaethje' 14-bout PPV event. The guys have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. The UFC showcased a World Championship Doubleheader this weekend at their UFC 274 PPV event. The first title fight in our Main Event was a collision between ‘former' UFC Lightweight Champion, Charles ‘Do Bronx' Oliveira and Former Interim Lightweight Champion and #1 ranked contender, Justin ‘The Highlight' Gaethje. In our second title fight of the night, we will had the battle for the Strawweight Championship between 'Thug' Rose Namajunas and Carla 'Cookie Monster' Esparza. Also on the PPV card, we had Lightweights ‘Iron' Michael Chandler vs. Tony ‘El Cucuy' Ferguson going to war. Meanwhile, legendary fighters, Ovince St. Preux and Mauricio ‘Shogun' Rua clashed in a Heavyweight bout on the main card. Our highly anticipated main card opener featuring Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone vs Joe Lauzon was a last minute cancellation, which was a bummer, hopefully it can be rescheduled. For all the results, reactions and much more detail on the main card, and plenty of tidbits about all the prelims, be sure to hit play on the show to hear what our fight experts, Zane and Eddie, have to say! _____________________________________ Overall, this now 14-bout card saw 3 1st Rd finishes, 2 KO/TKO's, 2 subs, & 10 decisions; 5 split. Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are here with the MMA Vivisection PRELIMS CARD SHOW, breaking down a set of 10 bouts on this 15-bout UFC 274: 'O;liveira vs. Gaethje' PPV event. "Recent UFC Fight Night events may have found themselves a little lacking in star power or notoriety, but this weekend's UFC 274 PPV card is an excellent example of the kind of quality the promotion can still put together. Throw Michael Chandler vs. Tony Ferguson in there, and Donald Cerrone vs. Joe Lauzon and it should make for a violent card." - Zane Simon For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the MAIN PPV CARD, check out that version of the MMA Vivi which already aired at 1PM Central today, Thurs., May 5th., 2022, right here on our SC channel.
Josh Kopel is a restaurateur, tech pioneer and environmental advocate. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the spawn of bootleggers and retail giants, he was bred for the hospitality industry. Throughout Kopel's 20+ year career in hospitality he has managed venues ranging from the Alligator Bayou Bar, located on Alligator Bayou Road, seated on Alligator Bayou (it was exactly how you're picturing it in your mind) to the hottest Hollywood nightclubs, bars, and ultra-lounges (far less glamorous than you're picturing it in your mind). Kopel went independent in 2010, opening his first concept Five0Four, a New Orleans-inspired bar, on the Walk of Fame in the heart of Hollywood. In subsequent years, he would open the Michelin-rated fine dining concept, Preux & Proper as well as South City Fried Chicken, voted the best fried chicken in Los Angeles by LA Weekly. Despite his success, he saw foundational issues within the industry and set out to fix them himself. In 2018, Kopel founded FLO Hospitality Solutions, a company solely focused on leveraging tech to bring more humanity to the customer service experience, not less. His first product, FLO, launched in 2019 offering an all-in-one communication solution for restaurants, saving restaurateurs 1,500 labor hours per year while increasing their profits, on average, 5-15%. . In 2020, the pandemic offered another opportunity for Kopel to serve the industry. In response to the devastation he saw, Josh created FULL COMP, a podcast, blog and video series dedicated to seeking out thought leaders from within and outside of the hospitality industry, using their wisdom to help the restaurateurs survive the present and thrive in the future. Kopel's varied interests and talents have landed him several positions of influence including board seats on the Hollywood Hills West Neighborhood Council and the California Restaurant Association. He is also a co-founder of the Friends of Runyon Canyon, a non-profit focused on the protection of local Los Angeles Park areas. This episode is sponsored by our friends at NoiseAware!

On the afternoon of the 14th April 1917 men of the 1st Essex and the Newfoundland Regiment were given the unenviable task of attacking and holding Infantry Hill, just to the east of the small but strategically vital village of Monchy le Preux.By mid-morning, not a single man remained unwounded to the east of Monchy and men were being captured in their hundreds by the rapidly advancing Germans.A party of just ten men commanded by Lt Col Forbes-Robertson collected weapons and ammunition from the dead and with only a hedge for cover mounted one of the most remarkable holding actions of the entire Great War. For over 11 hours, these ten brave men held off over 300 German soldiers and prevented Monchy from falling into German hands. This is their story.
#Heatwave #NBA #Conferencefinals #EuroBasket #UFC We are experiencing a heatwave locally and so we are just trying not to melt. Most are staying indoors and using fans and ice and sports to stay cool! We discussed our methods to keep cool and go without sleep and try and survive! The conversation eventually got to the NBA playoffs and the Conference Finals. The third game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks was last night. Atlanta was controlling the game until the late third and fourth. Ice Trae Young tweaked his ankle as he stepped on the foot of the official standing behind him and left the game. The Bucks took advantage of the young leader and kept feeding Kris Middleton who was lethal and deadly. The Second banana of the Bucks outscored the Hawks himself 20 to 17 and contributed to a 25 to 7 run to win the game 113 to 102. The Bucks take a two games to one lead in the series and look poised to take a stranglehold on the series. In the Western Conference final the Phoenix Suns are on the verge of securing a berth in the final for the first time since 1993. They employed some old school basketball winning a defensive grind out game 84 to 80 in game 4. Game 5 is tonight at 6 PM pacific and if the LA Clippers don't win this series is over as Phoenix is up three games to one. Kawhi Leonard has already been ruled out and he has been sorely missed. Ivica Zubac has been utilized a lot in this series and is questionable to play tonight. It seems very unlikely that the Clips will be able to completely stave off elimination. We showed some highlights of the women's Euro Basket tournament and the big win for Serbia 63 to 54 over France. This was their second ever title but was an upset. Congratulations for winning a great tournament. The UFC was in Vegas again and showcased the Heavyweight division. The Main event had top contenders Cyril Gane facing Alex "Drago " Volkov in a five round titanic battle. Gane was incredibly dominant and really was able to show his superiority inflicting damage and barely taking any himself. The Co-Main event had Canadian Tanner Boser facing Ovince St. Preux and had some unnecessary controversy. Boser was his usual fast moving and damaging self in the first round and won the round handily. The second round was going the same way as the first until OSP got a takedown. The fighters were scrambling for position when Boser reached his hand up the cage. His fist was closed but many thought he was grabbing the fence to pull himself up. The referee Jason Herzog momentarily approached the fighters to see if Tanner was utilizing an unfair advantage. He realized that it wasn't anything illegal and allowed the fight to continue uninterrupted. Boser was able to get back to his feet quite soon after and pressed the action. Tanner landed a knee and a shot to the side of OSP's head and dropped him and started smashing him as Herzog stepped in and stopped the bout this time. The camp for OSP is protesting the decision and want it to be called a no-contest. We will keep you posted as to a decision or ruling. There were a lot of other great fights broken down by Jason and Darren. Also they looked ahead to UFC 264 in tow weeks featuring the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Dayne Fox, are here tonight – Sat, June 26th, to breakdown the UFC VEGAS 30: Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov Fight Night event, which was broadcast from the UFC APEX Center in Las Vegas, NV. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. Returning to the down-sized APEX octagon for the main event, we had a Heavyweight tilt between the #3 ranked, former TKO Heavyweight Champion, Ciryl ‘Bon Gamin' Gane, with an impressive undefeated 8-0 record for an up-and-comer, including defeats against Rozenstruik, JDS and Boser; and his opponent tonight being the #5 ranked, former M-1 Global & Bellator MMA Champion, The Russian contender Alexander ‘Drago' Volkov; who was coming off victories over Overeem and Walt Harris, both in the second round. Gane was the slight favorite going into this bout, with a lot of believers thinking he is on his way to title contention. In the co-main event, we had a Light Heavyweight contest featuring, ‘OSP' – Ovince St. Preux, aka: ‘Von Preux choke' specialist, an unorthodox fighter, who was coming at this bout off a loss to Jamahal Hill last December. His opponent in this bout was Tanner ‘The Bulldozer' Boser; the Canadian brawler had a decent 19-8 record, but was coming into the octagon tonight off of two losses to Ilir Latifi and Andrei Arlovski since last winter. Also on the card, Timur ‘Lucky' Valiev won a hard fought battle to the decision against Raoni Barcelos, making him having won three contests in three weight classes. We also had an exciting Featherweight clash when Andre ‘Touchy' Fili went up against Daniel ‘The Pit' Pineda, in a brawl that ended when Fili accidentally let his hand slip off the chest of Pineda resulting in an accidental eye poke so severe it ended the bout in a NO CONTEST, which was a shame because Fili was en route to likely winning that bout later in the second round. Prior to that, we had exciting matchups between Tim Means and Nicolas Dalby and Renato Moicano vs. Jai Herbert. Overall, this 13-bout card saw 3 1st Rd finishes, 5 KO/TKO's – 1 stoppage, 2 subs, & 6 decisions - 1 of those being Split. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Matt Brown & Seungwoo Choi; FOTN honors went to Vera vs. Grant. What a year this has been! COVID has obviously been the big story, but personally, I took the leap and started my own company at the start of the pandemic, launched the podcast and have connected with more people in the industry than in many previous years combined. A big part of that has been because of this podcast. What started as a hobby has turned into a passion project that I look forward to doing every week. There have been too many great moments on the show this year to count but I've tried to pull a few of them and do a “best of episode” to at least highlight some of the conversations that resonated with me. Thank you all for your support throughout the year and for coming on this journey with me. I hope some of the things we've talked about over the year have resonated with you or inspired you to take action. Highlights from the "best of" show include: Marketing Ep. 15 w/ Josh Hogan on spending money against OTAs Revenue Management Ep. 16 w/ Parul Suri on revenue management practices that worked in the past that help with visibility in the future Ep. 27 w/ Fabian Bartnick on RevPar index and vanity metrics F&B Ep. 24 w/ Josh Kopel on pivoting, change in the industry, evolving your Career, closing Preux & Proper and why he did it Service Ep. 13 w/ Clarence McLeod on proactive communication, non-negotiable basics are more important than ever and cocktail currency The Future Hospitality Ep. 31 w/ Ron Swidler on being nimble, using experts, and that we may not be qualified to answer the questions being asked right now Ep. 33 w/ Jeremiah Tower on what needs to change in the hospitality industry, training and the effort needed to be the best Thank you for your support over the past year. Thank you for continuing to listen each week, and thank you for sticking with me as we bring the show into the new year. Josh is the owner of Preux and Proper, Founder and CEO of FLO Hospitality and Host of the Full Comp Podcast; and this episode with him didn't go down the path I had initially planned - but it turned out far better than I could have hoped. In fact, that ‘pivot' to something new ended up being the central theme of the show. This is something many in hospitality are grappling with right now and Josh paints a detailed picture about his experience through the pandemic and the evolution that we need to push for in the hospitality industry if we want to see meaning change going forward. On this episode we discuss: Where it all started for Josh (4:30) Asking for help (8:40) What needs the change (10:06) Recognizing when things don't work for you anymore (12:17) Leveraging and engaging the community around you (18:09) How the Industry Guide to Restructuring for Restaurants came about (20:32) What changes need to happen in the restaurant industry (24:10) Why you've got to be flexible (28:50) Where do the restaurants in downtown locations go from here? (32:20) About Josh I'm an entrepreneur, restaurateur and environmental advocate. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the spawn of bootleggers and retail giants, I was bred for the hospitality industry. Throughout my 20+ year career in food and beverage I have managed venues ranging from the Alligator Bayou Bar, located on Alligator Bayou Road, seated on Alligator Bayou (it was exactly how you're picturing it in your mind) to the hottest Hollywood nightclubs, bars, and ultra-lounges (far less glamorous than you're picturing it in your mind). I went independent in 2010, opening my first concept Five0Four—a New Orleans-inspired bar—on the Walk of Fame in the heart of Hollywood. Ten years later, we've created a family of brands ranging from Michelin-rated fine dining to fast casual, all with a central focus on Southern hospitality and Southern cuisine. I have a ton to be thankful for. Not only have we been able to create sustainable concepts that have lasted for years, but those concepts have thrived. These victories were hard fought and there were a ton of mistakes and lessons along the way. In 2020, I've turned my attention towards new challenges. My newest project involves servicing the service industry. I look that the failure rate in our industry and I'm working to provide tools and strategies to give restaurant owners and operators a fighting chance. As I challenge myself to keep learning and growing, I'm committed to improving the lives of my peers and showing the world the beauty of the hospitality industry. Then 12th ranked UFC light-heavyweight Dominick Reyes returns to discuss his recently announced matchup against Ovince St. Preux at UFC 229 on October 6th in Las Vegas. Closing out this episode we are joined by No. 3 ranked heavyweight Curtis “Razor” Blaydes. Following this weeks announcement that Curtis will be facing Francis Ngannou in a rematch on November 24th in Beijing, China, we'll preview Blaydes' chance at redemption against the former title challenger.
