Ed lost his sight gradually due to retinitis pigmentosa. While there were times he struggled with his sight, he chose to ignore the problem throughout college and his early working life. Summers is Director of Accessibility at SAS, the market leader in analytics software and services. The SAS accessibility team enables people of all abilities to access the power of analytics. He also serves on the Advisory Council for the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the North Carolina Board of Education Advisory Council for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind.

On FSCast 183, we’re joined by Ed Summers, director of  accessibility at SAS, to get a stereo demo of the SAS Graphics accelerator, and to  learn about accessible SAS tools for doing statistics. He’ll also direct us to some of his blog posts  about how he trained himself to listen to synthesized speech at close to 600 words per minute.
