An Irish band formed just a few years ago, Devil Take the Women, the name taken from "Whiskey in the Jar". The band is made up of Lauren on acoustic guitar and main vocals, Megan on fiddle and vocals, and Chris on the drums. The Irish bands and musicians I have seen and heard about in Pittsburgh have been around for many years. So to have a new band is pretty cool. My family and I, plus our friend Abby, saw Devil Take the Women for the first time on July 18 at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle Irish Pub, and it was a great show. They have lots of energy, and a great stage personality. They throw in a few non - Irish songs from time to time, but most of the time it's Irish, which is good for us who have not been happy with the decline in the amount of Irish music played in the pubs for a number of years. We will be seeing them again, and hopefully get some more friends to join us." Going to church on Sunday is not the finish line. It's the beginning. If God has given you a mission, your life has to be shaped by more than a weekly routine. It requires daily obedience, daily pursuit of Christ, and daily formation. Our obedience flows from what we know—and our knowledge comes from our priesthood and closeness with God. Then comes courage. The courage to act on what God has placed in front of you comes from knowing who you are in Christ and trusting the One who called you. Religiosity can teach you a routine. Relationship with Christ transforms your life. God isn't looking for sacrifices that simply serve our own desires. He's looking for sacrifices that are aligned with His will. As we studied last week, Herod remodeled and expanded Zerubbabel's Temple into the largest and most elaborate temple in the surrounding area. While we don't know exactly what the temple looked like, we can form an idea based off four sources: historical records, other architectural structures built by Herod, buildings from that same period, and the archaeological evidence that they are finding on the Temple Mount. Troy of The Secret Commonwealth emailed a sad follow up back in March to the news about his friend who was illegally held in ICE custody: "Marc, thank you so much for sharing the fundraiser for my friend on your new episode. It is with profoundly heavy heart that I have to tell you that my friend died last Sunday of a heart attack. He had been moved to a hospital in Mississippi and apparently suffered two successive attacks. His body is being returned now. To say we are devastated and infuriated would be inadequate to describe our state of being. We had just been sending his lawyers important records and documents that we felt, along with his obvious serious health conditions, had a very good chance of securing his release. We'll never know now if that would have proven to be true, but we just needed him to endure a little while longer, which he ultimately could not. He died one month short of a year since being detained by ICE. I have not yet publicly announced this in an update to our fundraiser because, frankly, it's still too fresh and painful to address. But any proceeds we've made will obviously now be put toward the cost of his funeral service. Sorry to impart this bad news, but I mostly wanted to express my gratitude to you for your kind support on behalf of Pejman's family, my girlfriend (who was his dearest friend in the world and who spearheaded this fight for his freedom) and for me. Every day, you're making decisions that reveal your allegiance. The question isn't simply, “What am I being tested with?” It's: “Who am I serving?” Money can't be your god. Business can't be your god. Success can't be your god. Comfort can't be your god. Your desires can't be your god. Even in the wilderness, Jesus demonstrated wisdom, judgment, self-control, and dominion. He refused to surrender His authority to temptation. That's the standard. If God has placed something in your heart, your calling isn't to chase it through your own strength. It's to walk with God, become who He's called you to become, and bring what He's given you into the physical world through faithful obedience. It would appear there is a contradiction in the Bible since in one passage it says to be still and God will fight for us, but then there is another passage where we are told to put on the “Armor of God.” So, which is true? Are we to be silent and still and let God do the work? Or are we to put on our armor and go to war? Is this truly a contradiction? Today, we find Jesus standing before the Jewish leaders in what appears to be a trial as He defends Himself against their claims of breaking the Sabbath and committing blasphemy. As with their traditions concerning the Law, and as we can see is recorded in Deuteronomy, a legal case must have at least two to three witnesses present during a trial. Jesus supplies five. Have you thought about adding affiliate marketing to your subscription box business but you're not sure where to start? Are you wondering where to find good affiliates and how to manage them on the back end? This episode is for you!  Today we're diving into all things affiliate marketing for your subscription box business. I'll explain how affiliate marketing can significantly boost your revenue, expand your customer base, and strengthen your subscription box brand.  Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing strategy where brands reward individuals (affiliates) for marketing or driving traffic and sales to their services or products, including subscription boxes. This type of marketing is a win/win for both the brand and the affiliate.  Wondering how affiliate marketing works?  A subscription box owner creates an incentive (one-time or recurring) and generates specific links or codes for each affiliate to allow for accurate tracking. Each affiliate promotes that subscription box owner's box on their own platforms to their own audiences. For every action taken (i.e., subscribing) the affiliate is paid the incentive.  To get started:  Identify what makes a good affiliate for your brand Clearly define your ideal customer and niche and use affiliates who have the same person in their audience.  Make sure any potential affiliate aligns with your beliefs and morals.  Finding potential affiliates Start with your subscribers - do any of them already have a following?  Look at influencers who have the same ideal customer - bloggers, YouTubers, TikTokers, other content creators.  Follow them, like and comment on their content, start building a relationship before approaching them about being an affiliate.  Build an affiliate program that is a win/win for both parties Define your commission structure. Options include:  Recurring revenue share - what % of your profit?  One time payment upon sign up.  Set up affiliate software - I use Affiliately - and set up a payment schedule.  Create assets for affiliates - make it easy for them to promote! One of the most dangerous things we can do is hide our vulnerabilities instead of bringing them into the light. Sometimes the patterns we defend are the very patterns God is trying to expose. Anger. Pride. Fear. Resentment. Justification. We can become so accustomed to unhealthy behavior that we don't even recognize it anymore—especially when it was part of the environment we grew up in. The real question isn't, “Am I better than I used to be?” It's: “Am I representing Christ in the way I respond today?” Don't let pride, fear, or the desire to appear strong keep you from confronting what's happening inside your heart. Pray for God to open your eyes. Ask Him to expose the agreements, wounds, and patterns that you've normalized. Then have the courage to surrender them. True strength isn't pretending you have no weaknesses. Was Jesus incorrect when He was sharing the Parable of the Mustard Seed that is recorded in Matthew 13:31-32? He claims that the mustard seed is the smallest of all the seeds and that it will grow into a tree that is larger than all the plants. But though the seed is indeed quite small, it will only grow to a tree about eight feet tall. Is this an error in the Bible? Or is there a reasonable explanation as to why Jesus said this? I read that she died by suicide in the early 20 - teens but her son finished her last album called Biolingua and the song "Grief" takes my breath away. Her name is Eithne Ní Uallacháin and I found a couple of her albums on Apple Music. There is magic in her voice and lyrics; I'm not sure if there is a way to share her songs on the podcast but I thought you might enjoy her music regardless  -  I certainly do!
