Host Ross Cale digs into the vaults and presents a proto-Threadwork mix from way back in 2002 titled ‘Glimpse’. This is the first of what will be an irregular sub-series of Threadwork where Ross’s older mixes are, if they’re good enough, dusted off and presented on the podcast as a way of showing how consistent his approach to curation is – or how little his style has developed - over the years. Recorded live using 2 x decks and 1 x CDJ in 2002.Tracklisting w/ links to purchase, if I can find them (these are directly related to the artists where possible but not always). My Ain't No Big Thing radio show, live on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 9pm - 11pm (GMT) / 4pm - 6pm (EST) / 1pm - 3pm (PST) on BoxFrequency.fm. This week I have the pleasure of hosting a guest mix from the mighty Fred Berthet aka dj Steef. dj Steef is a Marseilles, France based producer known for making slow & funky downtempo house tracks. dj Steef started out working with Biomix (organizer of “Electronic Territories” Festival, later known as “Seconde Nature”), and after composing singles with Antoine Boullé under the pseudonym Venus Attack Project (on the label US Guidance), he created the band known as Troublemakers with his friend Lionel Corsini & Arnaud Taillefert. After an over-welcomed first LP ("Doubts and Convictions" on Guidance Recordings) and well received worldwide, Concecration came on the second one on Blue Note (“Express Way”) pushing The Troublemakers at one of the top electronic band in the French scene. Fred later on focused his attention on Copyshop project, influenced by the 80’s (Gomma, Toy Tonics, La Dame Noir, Numoment...). Producing now under dj Steef its was the occasion to synthesize his musical roots such as 80’s electro pop, poisonous disco, classy french influences, insistent downtempo and up warding house. Fred has found in his alter ego dj Steef the perfect combination of incredible fat, slow, funky downtempo house tracks that every body is so crazy about. As Gomma label boss says on him its not about fashion but clearly about style and that's why we all love his production stamped Biomix, in the shadows, under cover & simply outstanding. Next broadcast will be on May 18, 2014 and just might include another awesome guest and, as always, a track list, fully hyper linked, of my set can be found on my blog: http://djshmeejay.com/2014/04/24/dj-steef-dj-shmeejay-aint-no-big-thing-radio-show-2014-05-04/ To download a clean recording of dj Steef's set without me talking, hit this link. If you like this mix, please take the time to go to my Facebook page and 'like' me there. I certainly will like that. Cupam chorum, folO Olof
