With AIFD President Renee Tucci, Alejandro Figueira Fernandes, and a lineup of designers—including our own Olga Ramirez—it was a meaningful moment for education and representation in the industry.

The Classical Monologues By Robert Browning Read by Evan and Marie Blackmore Robert Browning was fascinated by people—not only people of his own day, but also people who had lived in the remote past. Five of his famous dramatic monologues are spoken by characters from the ancient Classical world: a Greek goddess (Artemis), a Roman senator (in “Imperante Augusto Natus Est—“), an Arab physician (Karshish), a Greek poet (Cleon), and the last surviving eyewitness of Jesus Christ (in “A Death in the Desert”). They probe many different questions, especially regarding the transition from paganism to Christianity. How did such a change happen? And how might it have struck contemporaries? As a supplement, the collection also includes “Bishop Blougram's Apology” (sometimms called the greatest of all Browning's monologues), which pursues many of the same issues down to his own day. I have always felt that Shakespeare has a universal value and this episode was in many respects an expression in conversation of what such a phenomenon in art and culture could possibly mean. During this episode I mentioned in passing the now somewhat obscure but once culturally significant figure of the great jazz/hispter comedian Lord Buckley and his “Willie The Shake” routine. I have no idea whether this registers much anymore but the very fact that in the 1950s a “hipster”and “beatnik” comedy could have a sort of hit about the glories of Shakespeare is but one of many and myriad examples of just how one author can have a most comprehensive and, indeed, eternal journey. I really enjoyed this conversation and episode immensely and hope this pleasure connects with the audience and listeners in the world.More about the magnificent Dr. Kurt Daw:BIOGRAPHYKurt Daw is a professor of Theater Arts at San Francisco State. You've really got to love the jolt of pure cinematic adrenaline that hits when a movie announces itself with extreme confidence instead of apology. “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die” does it by storming into a Los Angeles diner and unleashing a crazed, high‑wire opening monologue that plays like a dare, a sales pitch, and an exhausted rallying cry all at once. From the jump, the film makes it clear it is not here to calm you down. It's here to wake you the hell up. THE ROBOTS ARE COMING! THE ROBOTS ARE COMING!Directed by Gore Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean," " Rango"), the film follows a mysterious man from "the future” (Sam Rockwell) who arrives at a diner with one urgent task: he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one‑night quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence. That reluctant group includes Zazie Beetz, Michael Peña, Haley Lu Richardson, and Juno Temple. What unfolds is a kinetic collision of sci‑fi, action, romance, and social satire that never lets up until the credits roll.
