The Office of Personnel Management on Wednesday awarded its anticipated contract to modernize and consolidate federal human resources functions to Oracle, capping a process that's been over a year in the making. The nearly $400 million award puts Oracle in charge of a process to bring over 100 HR systems under one single platform that the agency is calling its Core Human Capital Management system. OPM says it believes the project will make significant reductions in the overall cost of HR platforms to taxpayers. “Historically, federal agencies have relied on fragmented, aging HR systems that are costly to maintain and difficult to scale,” OPM Director Scott Kupor said in a written statement included in a press release. He called the award “a foundational investment in the future of federal workforce management.” A final award comes over a year after an early effort to award such a contract failed to move forward. In May 2025, the Office of Personnel Management awarded a sole-source contract to Workday to facilitate the Trump administration's HR modernization efforts, arguing it was the only vendor that could do the job. But OPM abruptly canceled that award, and later launched open competition for such a contract. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on Wednesday ordered federal agencies to prioritize vulnerabilities based on four criteria, as part of a push to “patch smarter, not harder.” Federal agencies should emphasize patches for vulnerabilities that affect a publicly exposed asset, allow an attacker to fully automate exploitation, give attackers the ability to take over control of a system or relate to evidence of active, real-world exploitation, CISA declared. CISA acting director Nick Andersen previewed the binding operational directive (BOD) Tuesday, framing it as a rethinking of vulnerability management more broadly. Andersen said in a statement: “This Directive provides clear definitions, timelines and criteria that enhances transparency, predictability and agencies' resource planning to execute more effective vulnerability remediation." BOD 26-04 sets forth timelines for how quickly agencies must fix a vulnerability based on how many of the four criteria it meets. If it meets all four, for example, agencies need to fix it within three days and carry out a “forensic triage” to assess whether their systems were compromised. Dieses Thema lässt mir derzeit wenig Ruhe, daher werfe ich erneut ein paar Scheinwerferblitze darauf. Hier die wichtigsten Aspekte, die ich in dieser Folge anspreche: 1. Diversifizierung und Selbstbestimmung im Buchmarkt   Amazon und die Politik – Ein Dilemma für Selfpublisher:innen Zwischen Erfolg, Abhängigkeit und ethischen Widersprüchen Selfpublishing hat sich in den letzten zehn Jahren rasant entwickelt und vielen Autorinnen und Autoren die Möglichkeit eröffnet, eigenständig, unabhängig und erfolgreich zu veröffentlichen. Eine zentrale Rolle dabei spielt Amazon – doch diese Erfolgsgeschichte hat auch eine dunkle Seite, die zunehmend schwerer zu ignorieren ist. In diesem Beitrag beleuchte ich die Gratwanderung zwischen wirtschaftlicher Notwendigkeit und politisch-moralischen Bedenken, mit denen viele von uns heute konfrontiert sind. Selfpublishing ohne Amazon? Undenkbar! Ohne Amazon KDP wäre die Entwicklung des Selfpublishing, wie wir sie kennen, kaum vorstellbar. Der Markteintritt von Amazon KDP in Deutschland um 2010/2011 war ein Gamechanger, der das bestehende Buchsystem durchbrach und unabhängigen Autor:innen nicht nur Sichtbarkeit, sondern auch echtes unternehmerisches Potenzial verschaffte. Im Zuge dessen entstanden zahlreiche Geschäftsmodelle rund ums Selfpublishing, darunter auch Anbieter wie BOD, epubli oder Tolino. Dennoch bleibt Amazon bis heute der Platzhirsch – vor allem, weil sie im internationalen Vergleich die besten Konditionen für Selfpublisher:innen bieten: einfache Bedienbarkeit, schnelle Änderungen am Buch, gute Tantiemen und eine faire Platzierung in den Rankings. Wirtschaftliche Abhängigkeit und das Streben nach Alternativen Ein Blick auf das eigene Konto macht vielen Autor:innen klar, wie groß die Abhängigkeit von Amazon inzwischen geworden ist. Bei den meisten unabhängigen Autor:innen kommen 70 bis 95 Prozent der Buch-Umsätze über diese Plattform herein. Das bedeutet einerseits Planungssicherheit, andererseits kann es auch beängstigend wirken: Ein einziger Entscheid von Amazon kann ausreichen, ganze Existenzen in Gefahr zu bringen. Alternativen gibt es – beispielsweise Tolino im deutschsprachigen Raum oder der Direktverkauf über eigene Webseiten mit Zahlungsdienstleistern wie Digistore24. Hier können E-Mail-Adressen der Käufer:innen direkt gesammelt und Margen erheblich gesteigert werden. Dennoch: Für die meisten bleibt Amazon trotz Kritik aus ökonomischen Gründen ein "Muss". Die politischen und ethischen Widersprüche Im Verlauf der letzten Jahre haben sich die globalen politischen Verhältnisse verschärft. Es wird deutlich, dass Unternehmen wie Amazon, Meta oder Google immer stärker mit politischen Strömungen und Regierungen verknüpft sind, die nicht demokratischen Prinzipien entsprechen. Amazon hat sich zuletzt beispielsweise nicht von rechtspopulistischen Bewegungen und Personen distanziert, im Gegenteil: Sie haben ihnen durch Finanzierungen und Medienpräsenz sogar Rückenwind gegeben. Wer als Autor:in weiterhin Amazon nutzt, ist daher auch Teil dieses Systems – willentlich oder nicht. Den Kopf in den Sand stecken, alles ignorieren oder gar schweigen? Für viele ist das keine Option mehr. Es braucht Bewusstsein, Mut und die Bereitschaft, die eigenen Widersprüche auszuhalten und sie offen zu thematisieren. Denn: Die Welt ist widersprüchlich und es wird nicht von heute auf morgen möglich sein, sich ganz von problematischen Strukturen zu lösen. Der kreative Umgang mit Widersprüchen Die Tatsache, dass das Selfpublishing-Ökosystem auf Plattformen angewiesen ist, die in politische Skandale und Machtspiele verwickelt sind, stellt Autor:innen vor Herausforderungen – aber auch Chancen. Einerseits können und sollten wir die Vorteile für den eigenen unternehmerischen Erfolg nutzen. Andererseits ist es wichtig, die eigene Sichtweise offen auszusprechen und nicht schon der inneren Zensur zu erliegen.   Der Umgang mit Widersprüchen könnte beispielsweise auch darin bestehen, Amazon gezielt strategisch zu nutzen, um progressive Inhalte in die Welt zu tragen und zur Debatte zu stellen, oder die Kritik an den Plattformen selbst auf diesen zu veröffentlichen. Es geht darum, nicht schwarz-weiß zu denken, sondern konstruktiv und dialektisch mit Spannungen umzugehen. Meine Zusammenfassungt: Haltung zeigen und neue Wege prüfen Selfpublishing und Amazon – das ist für die meisten von uns noch alternativlos. Doch es bleibt unsere Verantwortung, nicht alles kritiklos hinzunehmen, sondern uns immer wieder zu fragen: Was kann ich tun, um sowohl unternehmerisch erfolgreich als auch ethisch integer zu handeln?   Gerade indem wir offen das Gespräch suchen, alternative Wege prüfen, Projekte wie Direktvertrieb oder Crowdfunding ausprobieren und uns stets bewusst machen, dass wir Teil eines größeren Ganzen sind, können wir zu einer Veränderung beitragen – auch wenn diese langsam kommt. Widersprüche werden bleiben. Sie sind ein integraler Bestandteil der Welt und Motor jeder Entwicklung. Wichtig ist, sich ihnen zu stellen und sie nicht zu verschweigen. Gerade in Zeiten des gesellschaftlichen Umbruchs braucht es Menschen, die über den Tellerrand hinausdenken und bereit sind, Farbe zu bekennen. It was low event, tightly controlled, and it raises the same balance questions that still sit over Madrid. Then it's Galatasaray pulling Juventus apart. Weston McKennie leads the line for Juve, while Victor Osimhen does what he always does — finding shots from nowhere and turning messy phases into goals. From there, we head to Norway, where Bodø/Glimt beat Inter Milan by doing far more than riding a big moment. The pressing was coordinated, the blindside runs were constant, and Inter never really found control. This was structural, not random. The CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog is one of the most referenced resources in vulnerability management, but how well do security teams actually understand what it tells them? In this Brand Highlight, Tod Beardsley, Vice President of Security Research at runZero and former CISA section chief who helped manage the KEV on a daily basis, breaks down what the catalog is designed to do and, just as importantly, what it is not.What is the KEV catalog and who is it really for? The KEV is mandated by Binding Operational Directive 22-01 (BOD 22-01), which tasks CISA with identifying vulnerabilities that are known to be exploited and have an available fix. Its primary audience is federal civilian executive branch agencies, but because the catalog is public, organizations everywhere use it as a prioritization signal. Beardsley notes that inclusion on the KEV requires a CVE ID, evidence of active exploitation, a patch or mitigation, and relevance to federal interests, meaning zero-day vulnerabilities and end-of-life systems without CVEs never appear.How should organizations think about KEV entries that are not equally dangerous? Beardsley explains that only about a third of KEV-listed vulnerabilities represent straight-shot remote code execution with no user interaction and no authentication required. The rest span a wide spectrum of severity. EPSS data reveals an inverse bell curve: many KEV entries have extremely low probabilities of exploitation in the next 30 days, while others cluster at the high end with commodity exploits widely available. This means treating every KEV entry as equally critical leads to wasted effort and alert fatigue.That gap between the catalog and real-world decision-making is exactly what KEVology addresses. The research, produced by Beardsley at runZero, enriches KEV data with CVSS metrics, EPSS scores, exploit tooling indicators, and ATT&CK mappings to help security teams filter and prioritize vulnerabilities based on what actually matters to their environment. Rather than prescribing a single priority list, KEVology treats the KEV as data to be analyzed, not doctrine to be followed blindly.To make this analysis accessible and interactive, runZero built KEV Collider, a free, daily-updated web application at runzero.com/kev-collider.
