Here is the free media kit from Federal Tech Podcast  John Gilroy and Snehal Antani, CEO of Horizon Three AI, discuss the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, emphasizing the need for a shift from compliance to resilience and defense. The discussion began with taking a look a common list of vulnerabilities. Back in 2021, CISA could develop a list of common vulnerabilities, and they called it the Known Exploited Vulnerability Catalog.  It was an authoritative list of specific software flaws and security bugs that had been verified in the wild.    Today, malicious actors have overwhelmed us with vulnerabilities.  We have reported 1600 software and hardware vulnerability entries, making it almost impossible to address each issue. Antani argues that what is important it to patch the critical vulnerabilities, not the complete list.  He states, "I'd rather patch the right few things quickly than everything slowly." During the interview, Antani refers to a couple of federal initiatives that reinforce his approach.  For example, BOD 26-04 is an initiative from CISA that signals a move from vulnerability identification to real world exposure. This concern is beyond the federal government.  The European Central Bank has looked at threats and is telling bank CEOs that AI is shortening the time from discovery to exploitation Antani also predicts that small and medium-sized companies will be prime targets for cyber-attacks in the coming months. From small businesses to federal governments to banks, it looks like we are in the middle of a drastic change in the way organizations handle vulnerabilities

Though I don't recall hearing about Offshore Investments Bonds being discussed, this is a worry to me because I have one with Prudential which my financial advisor arranged for me. (My original premium invested £254,640 on 11th March 2027.) I would appreciate to hear your general views on Offshore Investments Bonds, a general overview with positives and negatives. Also, I'm thinking of letting my Pension Advisor go, and going alone at the beginning of April 2026, because I don't like the idea of paying for Pension Advisor costs and I don't plan to make any withdrawals until 2037 when I'm 67. Prudential have said that it is possible to go alone if I agree to a disclaimer, because this Bond is sold as an advised only product. Though I'm confident in my ability to manage this Bond because I'm a member of Meaningful Academy and I'm already retired at 56 and living off my Pru Drawdown Pension, therefore I have plenty of time to learn. (At 67 my Pension Pot will have virtually run dry.) My plan at 67 at my State Pension age is to take my Bond's 5% tax deferred allowance monthly, plus make annual 'Segment Encashments' to refill my 'Cash Buffer' that covers my monthly income shortfalls, and if (& when) I need to stop taking monthly withdrawals from the Bond during smoothing shocks; suspensions or UPA's etc. Also, when it's time to encash segments, I'd like to use 'Top Slicing Relief' to prevent being taxed as if I've earned that whole amount in a single year. I would also appreciate your general views on this plan too, I do realise this is not advice. I'm hoping this question is not too specific and that others may find useful. All the best. Jon 11:24  Question 2 Hi Pete and Roger, Thanks for everything you do, it is truly life changing. I currently live abroad and am a few years off state pension age. When I get to state pension age I am thinking of returning to the UK. When/if I do return, I will have approximately £800k in a UK GIA. (I can't have an ISA as not currently a UK tax resident).  My £800k GIA will be invested in about 10 various ETF's. I plan to live off the proceeds of this GIA, alongside my state pension. Let's assume the state pension takes up my single person tax allowance, so that is effectively tax free. What I am not sure of is how my 'income' from the GIA is taxed. Let's say I take 5% pa (close to the 4% rule of thumb) which is £40k pa. Although this will be my 'income' I don't believe it would be treated as income for tax purposes. It could also be subject to CGT as it's an investment, but it isn't all profit/gains, so I can't see how it would be taxed as that either. Please can you explain to me how the GIA would be taxed so that I can plan for returning to the UK, and understand whether it is financially viable. Also am I missing anything obvious? Hope that isn't too long a question to be answered on the podcast. At the moment I have 6000£ in a stocks and shares ISA (I put 500£ a month in) and 2000£ in LISA. My only debt is my car finance which costs me 250£. I have a question about accessing a DC pension/SIPP, specifically the age one can access benefits. I understand this is 55, if you reach the age of 55 before Apr '28, after which the age rises to 57. I turn 55 in late January 2028, and am planning to retire then. As the rules stand I would be able to access my workplace DC pension and my own SIPP at this time, since I turn 55 prior the 6 April 2028 (before minimum age increases to 57). I am (was) planning to gradually drawdown my DC pensions, taking small monthly amounts to bridge the gap between 55 and 65. At which point have 2 deferred, index linked, DB pensions, along with the state pension a couple of years after that. Recently I saw a finance video on You-Tube which said that this is not correct. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=756h-kRxEug The video led me to believe the following…. Having already turned 55, before April 28, I assumed I would be free to access any amount from my DC pension, at any point after Jan 28, upto and including late Jan 30 (when I turn 57). Since I turn 55 late Jan '28 I will be able to access my DC pension from my 55th birthday, and until 6 April '28 for about 10wks! I will also be able to access my DC pension after I turn 57, late Jan '30. But in the period between April '28 and Jan '30 I would not be allowed to drawdown my DC pension nor my own SIPP, irrespective of whether I had started to access it already, or not. I do have a few questions, but as you don't like super long questions, I'll spread my three very different questions across different weeks. My first one is this: as I listened through the episodes, I was surprised by the number of questions coming from men, because I had always assumed that women tend to manage the money in most relationships. I know you said 85% of your YouTube audience is men. I'm wondering, just out of interest from your lived experience at Jacksons: in this self-selecting group of people who are interested in money management, what roles do men typically play in managing finances, and what roles do women tend to play? In my own household, I manage 100% of the finances — everything from utilities, contracts and payments to the investment portfolio. Heather KW 40:43  Question 6 Hi Pete and Roger, Firstly, I love the show - it has been transformative for me and my family! I'm looking ahead to retiring in a few years and have a drawdown question for you.  I anticipate that I will have a £600,000 pension pot and want to check whether my understanding of the withdrawal strategy is correct. Here's what I'm hoping to do: Take £30,000 of taxable income in each of the first two years before the state pension kicks in. In year 1, I also want to spend £100,000 to buy a lifetime annuity. Critically, I want to preserve all of my tax free cash at this point - so the £30k income would be taxable (and I assume that the annuity purchase is not-taxable as the income from it is). Then, at the start of Year 2, I want to take the 25% tax-free cash (say £150,000) in one go and use it to move house. After that, I would draw £20,000 a year of taxable income from the remaining pot forever (not relevant to the question, but I thought it would make the question make more sense). My understanding is that this can be done by partially crystallising only the amounts needed in Year 1 and leaving the rest of the pot uncrystallised so that the full 25% tax‑free cash is available for use in year 2.  I also understand that this is not UFPLS - just regular crystallisation. A bonus question if you have time - I assume that the income drawn in year 1 will generate 25% tax free cash - can I just leave this in my drawdown account to be used in year 2 (to contribute towards the full tax free amount) or I have to take it out? Could you confirm whether my understanding here is correct, and whether most pension providers (for example Standard Life or Vanguard) allow this kind of phased crystallisation and delayed tax‑free cash?  Sorry, I find crystallisation very confusing! Ob große Konzerne wie Amazon und BOD oder individuelle Profis wie Coverdesignerinnen, Lektoren und Buchsetzerinnen – die Art der Kommunikation und die Qualität der Zusammenarbeit sind entscheidend für den Erfolg deines Buchprojekts. Ich teile meine Erfahrungen aus über 15 Jahren in der Buchbranche und zeige dir, worauf du achten solltest, wie du Missverständnisse vermeidest und mit welchen Strategien du das Beste aus der Zusammenarbeit herausholst. Außerdem erfährst du, warum klare Abmachungen, Vertragsdetails und Respekt im Umgang miteinander so wichtig sind – und wie du langfristige, vertrauensvolle Beziehungen aufbauen kannst. Zwei Hauptgruppen von Dienstleistern  Die Zusammenarbeit im Selfpublishing unterscheidet sich stark zwischen großen Firmen (wie Amazon, BOD, Tolino) und Einzeldienstleister:innen (z.B. Coverdesigner:innen, Lektor:innen). Diese beiden Gruppen erfordern jeweils unterschiedliche Kommunikationsstrategien.   2. Großunternehmen sind nicht für Autor:innen da, sondern für den eigenen Profit  Eine zentrale Erkenntnis ist, dass große Unternehmen wie Amazon & Co. primär auf Gewinn ausgerichtet sind und nicht existieren, um Autor:innen zu helfen, ihre Bücher zu veröffentlichen.   3. Kommunikation verläuft oft über Filter und Automatisierungen  Der Kontakt mit Großunternehmen verläuft meist unpersönlich und automatisiert. Persönlicher Kontakt findet nur selten statt – und selbst dann sind die Mitarbeitenden an Vorgaben gebunden.   4. Respekt und Freundlichkeit sind grundlegend  Ich kann es nicht oft genug wiederholen, sowohl im Umgang mit Großunternehmen als auch Einzeldienstleister:innen lohnt es sich stets respektvoll und freundlich zu bleiben, aber dabei auch bestimmte Anliegen klar und bestimmt zu äußern.   5. Kommunikation und Austausch mit Kolleg:innen ist wertvoll  Der Austausch mit anderen Selfpublisher:innen hilft, gemeinsame Probleme zu erkennen und Lösungsansätze zu finden. Oft treten dieselben Schwierigkeiten bei mehreren gleichzeitig auf.   6. Geduld und Vorbereitung sind wichtig  Gerade bei großen Firmen muss mit längeren Wartezeiten gerechnet werden. Es ist hilfreich, sich vor Anfragen bereits in den Hilfetexten und Angeboten zu informieren, um gezielt nachfragen zu können.   7. Vertragsprüfung ist unerlässlich  Du musst die Vertragsbedingungen und AGBs der Dienstleister:innen unbedingt genau lesen, insbesondere was Rechte, Exklusivität und nicht beabsichtigte Klauseln (z.B. Hörbuchrechte) betrifft.   8. Schriftliche Abmachungen mit Einzeldienstleister:innen sind essenziell  Für alle Leistungen – vom Coverdesign bis zum Lektorat – brauchst du klare, schriftliche Abmachungen darüber, was geleistet wird und wie die Bezahlung geregelt ist, um Missverständnisse zu vermeiden.   9. Präzises Briefing ist erfolgsentscheidend  Je genauer und spezifischer die eigenen Vorstellungen an Dienstleister:innen kommuniziert werden, desto besser werden die Ergebnisse. Unklare Angaben führen zu schlechten Resultaten und langwierigen Prozessen.   10. Klare Absprachen zu Kommunikation und Bezahlung schaffen Sicherheit  Vereinbarungen über Kommunikationswege und Zahlungsmodalitäten sollen von Anfang an geklärt werden. Auch Authentizität, Ehrlichkeit und Verlässlichkeit in der Zusammenarbeit sind Schlüssel für langfristig erfolgreiche Beziehungen.   Zusammenarbeit mit Dienstleister:innen im Selfpublishing – Warum, wie und worauf du achten solltest Wenn du dein Buch im Selfpublishing veröffentlichen willst, kommst du nicht drum herum: Du musst mit Dienstleister:innen zusammenarbeiten. Das klingt erstmal stressig, kann aber richtig Spaß machen – wenn du ein paar Dinge beachtest. In Folge 334 vom Mission Bestseller Podcast dreht sich alles um das Thema: Wie läuft die Zusammenarbeit mit Dienstleister:innen ab? Welche Fettnäpfchen kannst du vermeiden? Und wie sorgst du dafür, dass dein Buch-Projekt nicht zur Katastrophe wird? Hier bekommst du den Überblick – locker-flockig und mit einem Augenzwinkern. Zwei Sorten Dienstleister:innen – und warum das wichtig ist In der Selfpublishing-Welt unterscheiden sich grob zwischen zwei Arten von Dienstleister:innen: die großen Konzerne (Amazon, BOD, Tolino, Nova MD etc.) und die Einzeldienstleister:innen wie Cover-Designer:innen, Lektor:innen oder Buchsetzer:innen. Und ganz ehrlich: Der Unterschied könnte größer nicht sein! Die großen Firmen sind deine Eintrittskarte in den Buchmarkt. Ohne sie läuft nichts - sie drucken, distribuierten, listen und liefern deine Buchbabys aus. Aber Achtung: Die machen das nicht für dein Wohl, sondern für den Profit. Liebe Autor:in, falls du dachtest, Amazon und Co. existieren nur, um deinen Traum vom Bestseller zu realisieren – sorry, da muss ich die Seifenblase platzen lassen. Sie wollen Geld verdienen, und zwar so viel wie möglich. Respekt und Professionalität – auch bei den Großen Was heißt das für die Zusammenarbeit? Erstmal: Bleib freundlich! Die Menschen (und Bots), die dir bei den großen Dienstleister:innen begegnen, hängen auch nur in ihrem Arbeitskorsett und können nicht zaubern. Aufregen bringt nix, Respekt hingegen kommt immer gut an. Kommunikation ist das A und O – und manchmal leider auch ein Geduldsspiel. Mach dir klar: Die Wartezeiten können lang werden, gerade bei BOD oder Nova MD. Amazon antwortet zwar schnell, aber meistens bekommst du erstmal Standardantworten à la FAQ-Bot 3000. Da hilft: Sich mit anderen Autor:innen austauschen, nachfragen, ob dein Problem ein Einzelfall ist oder ob gleich eine ganze Meute betroffen ist. So fühlst du dich weniger allein und kommst eventuell schneller voran. Ganz, ganz wichtig: Lies dir die Vertragsbedingungen durch! Und ja, ich weiß, das ist so spannend wie Steuererklärung, aber du willst nicht plötzlich alle Hörbuchrechte bei einem Dienstleister eingebucht wissen, nur weil du aus Versehen ein Häkchen falsch gesetzt hast. Die Einzeldienstleister:innen – Lektorat, Cover, und Co. Kommen wir zum zweiten Team in deinem Autor:innen-Leben: die Einzelkämpfer:innen, die sich liebevoll um deinen Text, dein Cover oder das Korrektorat kümmern. Hier ist der Umgang oft persönlicher – aber gerade deshalb sollte alles Schwarz auf Weiß geregelt sein. Verträge schützen beide Seiten. Das klingt nach Anwalt und Stress, ist aber oft das, was am Ende Freundschaften rettet. Wer übernimmt was, zu welchem Preis und in welcher Frist? Das klärst du unbedingt schriftlich. Und wenn dir jemand für ein Komplett-Korrektorat 50 Euro anbietet, dann investiere das Geld lieber in einen Espresso und nutze eine Textmaschine – Ernsthaftigkeit sieht anders aus. Gute Arbeit hat ihren Preis, und das ist auch sinnvoll, schließlich möchtest du, dass die Leute von ihrer Arbeit leben können. Sei ehrlich zu dir selbst: Was ist dir dein Buch wert? Ein gutes Cover ist kein Fiverr-Schnäppchen und ein ordentliches Lektorat kostet Zeit und Geld. Klar kommunizieren – macht alles leichter Egal, ob Cover-Design oder Buchsatz: Je klarer du beschreibst, was du willst, desto glücklicher sind am Ende alle. Vage Angaben führen nur zu Frust und endlosen Korrekturrunden. Rot und Gelb sind für dich vielleicht Farben, für Grafiker:innen aber ein ganzes Universum. Je genauer dein Briefing, desto besser das Ergebnis! Und wenn mal etwas nicht passt – sei ehrlich. Freundlich, aber ehrlich. Nur so kommt ihr gemeinsam ans Ziel. Sprich auch Kommunikationskanäle ab. Wenn du nur E-Mail magst, sag es. Wenn du WhatsApp nicht ausstehen kannst, dann sag's auch. Das erspart vielen Beteiligten das große: „Wie war nochmal der letzte Stand?" Und zu guter Letzt: Bleib flexibel. Nicht jedes Dienstleister:innen-Abenteuer wird ein Match made in Heaven. Jede:r hat schon die eine oder andere Enttäuschung erlebt – das gehört dazu. Offenheit, Respekt und die Bereitschaft, aus Fehlern zu lernen, bringen dich immer weiter. Das Miteinander macht den Unterschied Selfpublishing ist Teamarbeit. Du hast die Kontrolle, klar – aber ohne gute Zusammenarbeit mit Dienstleister:innen wird's schnell ein einsames, frustiges Unterfangen. Also: Verträge machen, respektvoll (und mit einer Prise Humor) kommunizieren, Budgets realistisch kalkulieren – und immer wieder mit anderen austauschen. So wird dein Buchprojekt nicht nur erfolgreich, sondern auch angenehm für alle, die an ihm mitarbeiten. Und falls du doch mal mit eine:r Dienstleister:in streitest – denk daran: Jede Anekdote ist potenzieller Stoff für dein nächstes Kapitel.

The Office of Personnel Management on Wednesday awarded its anticipated contract to modernize and consolidate federal human resources functions to Oracle, capping a process that's been over a year in the making. The nearly $400 million award puts Oracle in charge of a process to bring over 100 HR systems under one single platform that the agency is calling its Core Human Capital Management system. OPM says it believes the project will make significant reductions in the overall cost of HR platforms to taxpayers. “Historically, federal agencies have relied on fragmented, aging HR systems that are costly to maintain and difficult to scale,” OPM Director Scott Kupor said in a written statement included in a press release. He called the award “a foundational investment in the future of federal workforce management.” A final award comes over a year after an early effort to award such a contract failed to move forward. In May 2025, the Office of Personnel Management awarded a sole-source contract to Workday to facilitate the Trump administration's HR modernization efforts, arguing it was the only vendor that could do the job. But OPM abruptly canceled that award, and later launched open competition for such a contract. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on Wednesday ordered federal agencies to prioritize vulnerabilities based on four criteria, as part of a push to “patch smarter, not harder.” Federal agencies should emphasize patches for vulnerabilities that affect a publicly exposed asset, allow an attacker to fully automate exploitation, give attackers the ability to take over control of a system or relate to evidence of active, real-world exploitation, CISA declared. CISA acting director Nick Andersen previewed the binding operational directive (BOD) Tuesday, framing it as a rethinking of vulnerability management more broadly. Andersen said in a statement: “This Directive provides clear definitions, timelines and criteria that enhances transparency, predictability and agencies' resource planning to execute more effective vulnerability remediation." BOD 26-04 sets forth timelines for how quickly agencies must fix a vulnerability based on how many of the four criteria it meets. If it meets all four, for example, agencies need to fix it within three days and carry out a “forensic triage” to assess whether their systems were compromised. Bodø/Glimt, the team from the town of Bodø north of the polar circle, counting around 45,000 inhabitants, made it to the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League this season. After beating Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Inter Milan, they got eliminated by Sporting, from Lisbon two weeks ago. This specific recording is very personal to me as it's inspired by a trip I went on at the back end of last year to the Lofoten Islands and Bodø in the north of Norway.
