In this episode, Michael and Mircea dig into one of the biggest offensive upgrades in modern pickleball: the two-handed backhand dink. Mircea, a former tennis and squash player, shares what it's like to relearn a shot as a high-level competitor, while Michael reflects on his own journey picking up the "twoie" back in 2023. Together they break down technique, drilling strategy, and how the shot shows up differently depending on where you are on the court. Why the two-hander matters: How the two-handed backhand dink has gone from a rare, cutting-edge shot to the default among younger and female players, and why it opens up so much more offense than the traditional one-handed slice dink. Starting from scratch: Mircea talks about the mental hurdle of deconstructing a shot he'd already found success with, and the discomfort of being a beginner again at a high level of play. The wall drill: Both hosts recommend starting with 30 to 45 minutes hitting left-handed dinks against a wall to build footwork and spin before ever adding the second hand. Footwork over everything: Why leg drive and getting under the ball matters more than arm mechanics when learning the shot. Paddle angle debate: Michael and Mircea compare notes on paddle tip position (angled up vs. dipped down) for different types of dinks and speed-ups. Shot placement on speed-ups: Guidance on where to target speed-ups (down the line, into the body, or cross-court into the hip/belly button) and why cross-middle speed-ups are usually a mistake. Timeline for improvement: Expect two to four weeks minimum of discomfort, with real integration into games often taking two to three months or longer. Pro-level examples: References to Anna Leigh Waters, Anna Bright, Hayden Patrick Quinn, Jack Sock, JW, and Ben, illustrating different ways the two-hander is used (or intentionally not used) at the highest levels. Senior pro trends: Why more women are bringing the two-hander into senior pro play, and how it's slowly gaining ground among men on that circuit. Don't neglect your strengths: A reminder to keep drilling bread-and-butter shots (like the one-handed slice dink) even while building a new weapon, since the one-hander still matters for reach, resets, and defense. Right-side situations: How the two-handed backhand shows up less often at the net when playing the right side, but becomes more relevant in the transition zone and on third-shot drops. Michael gives a shoutout to CRBN Pickleball's new backpack and his Barrage elongated paddle. Listeners can use code 402P at checkout for 10% off at carbonpickleball.com. Committing to a two-handed backhand dink is a long-term project, not a quick fix. Drill it deliberately (wall work, tossed feeds, transition zone reps), keep using it in real games even while uncomfortable, and don't abandon the shots that already work while you build the new one. When You Need Direction: A Psalm of Guidance

    Sermons

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 19, 2026

Last week we explored "waiting without answers." This week we're looking at a different kind of uncertainty: not knowing which way to go. Summer is often a season of transition. Decisions need to be made. Some of you are facing big questions: Should I take this job? Should I move? Should I change directions? Should I stay where I am? How do I care for my aging parents? How do I prepare for retirement? You're praying. You're seeking direction. You're hoping God will make the path clear. Unlike last week's message, this uncertainty involves choice. You're not just waiting for something to happen; you're trying to discern what you should do. And that's its own kind of burden. Every decision opens some doors and closes others, and you want to choose wisely. One of the greatest explorers in history understood what it was like to need direction. In 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship, Endurance, became trapped and crushed by Antarctic ice, leaving his crew stranded in one of the harshest places on earth. Months later, Shackleton and five companions climbed into a 22-foot lifeboat and set out on an astonishing 800-mile voyage across the Southern Ocean to bring rescue to the rest of the crew. Their survival depended on the navigator, Frank Worsley. There was no GPS, no radar, no electronic navigation. Most days the sky was completely overcast. But whenever the clouds parted—even for a few seconds—Worsley would quickly take a reading of the sun and determine their course. Those brief glimpses of light kept them from drifting hundreds of miles off course. He didn't need sunlight all day. He just needed enough light for the next bearing. I think that's where many of us live. We wish God would hand us a detailed roadmap for the next ten years. Instead, He often gives us enough light for the next faithful step. That's exactly where David finds himself in Psalm 25. David wrote this psalm when he was lost—spiritually, emotionally, and practically. He needed direction, and he brought that need to God in prayer: "Show me Your ways, LORD, teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day long." (Psalm 25:4–5) Notice what David asks for. He doesn't ask for a map. He asks for a Guide. And that's one of the great lessons of this psalm. Seeking God's direction is not primarily about getting an immediate answer. It's about becoming the kind of person who trusts God enough to follow Him, even when the whole path isn't yet visible. Today we'll discover that God's guidance is less about revealing every step ahead and more about walking closely with the Shepherd who already knows the way. THE PSALM: LISTEN TO DAVID'S PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE Psalm 25:1-5, “To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in You; do not let me be ashamed; do not let my enemies exult over me. Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed; those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed. Make known to me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day long.” Notice the movement. David starts by lifting his soul to God. He's not trying to figure this out alone. He's bringing his confusion to God. Then he makes a declaration: “I trust in You.” Not “I feel like I trust You.” But “I choose to trust You.” Then comes the request: “Make known to me Your ways. Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth.” He's asking for guidance. But notice—he's also asking to be taught. He's asking to understand, not just to know the right move. Then verse 8-10: “Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way. All the paths of the Lord are lovingkindness and truth, to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.” David is reminding himself of something true: God is good. God wants to guide us. God leads the humble. THE CHALLENGE: THE PATH ISN'T ALWAYS CLEAR Here's the reality that no one talks about: Sometimes God makes the path crystal clear. A door opens. An opportunity presents itself. The answer is obvious. But sometimes—and maybe more often than not—God doesn't make the path completely clear. You're standing at a crossroads. Both directions seem possible. Both have merit. One has security but less meaning. One has meaning but more risk. You're praying. You're seeking. And the answer still isn't obvious. Both feel right and wrong at the same time. And that's when doubt creeps in. You find yourself thinking: If God really wanted to guide me, wouldn't He make it obvious? If He cared about this decision, wouldn't He remove all the uncertainty? But that's not how God usually works. Psalm 25 teaches something different. It teaches that God's guidance often comes through a process. Through seeking. Through prayer. Through wisdom from others. Through testing. Through small clarities that add up to a direction. Notice that David doesn't ask for a thunderbolt. He asks to be led and taught. “Lead me in Your truth and teach me.” He's asking for an ongoing process of being guided and learning, not a one-time answer that settles everything. And notice verse 9: “He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way.” God leads the humble. Humility is the key. Humility means admitting you don't have all the answers. Humility means trusting God enough to take the next step even when you can't see the whole path. APPLICATION: SEEKING DIRECTION IN UNCERTAINTY Some of you are facing a decision right now. Maybe it's a big one. A job change. A relationship decision. A move. A calling you're sensing but can't quite name. Maybe it's smaller—how to spend your time, what to invest in, where to go next. You've prayed. You've sought counsel. You've searched the Scriptures. Yet the answer still isn't crystal clear. I think of a man who spent two years wrestling with whether to leave a secure career for work that better aligned with his faith and sense of calling. He kept waiting for God to send a lightning bolt of certainty—but it never came. Instead, clarity came gradually. Trusted people affirmed his gifts. An unexpected opportunity opened. The inner conviction grew stronger until he realized he couldn't ignore it any longer. He didn't have complete certainty before he stepped out in faith. But he had enough light for the next step. Looking back, he realized something important: the certainty came after the step of obedience, not before it. That's often how God guides us. He rarely hands us a detailed roadmap. Instead, He gives us enough light for the next faithful step. As we walk in obedience, He provides the light for the step after that. THE DISCIPLINE OF SEEKING Psalm 25 teaches us that seeking God's direction is itself a spiritual practice. It's not something you do once and move on from. It's something you return to whenever you're at a crossroads. It's also not passive. You're not sitting back hoping God will telegraph the answer. You're seeking. You're asking. You're praying. You're listening. You're seeking counsel from wise, godly people who know you well. You're exploring opportunities and paying attention to how God opens and closes doors. Dallas Willard once wrote, "The life of faith is not about having all the answers. It's about learning to trust the One who does." That's the heart of Psalm 25. You don't need to see the entire path. You need to trust God enough to take the next faithful step. And often, as you take that step, more clarity comes. Here's what's remarkable: the seeking itself strengthens your faith. As you pray, listen, and seek wise counsel, you're not merely looking for an answer—you're learning to know God. You're learning to recognize His voice, trust His character, and discern His guidance through Scripture, circumstances, godly counsel, and the quiet work of the Holy Spirit. Some people think of guidance as a transaction: "God, just tell me what to do." But Psalm 25 presents something much richer. Guidance is relational. In seeking God's will, you're drawing near to Him, and in the process, He is shaping you into the kind of person who can follow Him faithfully whether the path is clear or not. That's why David prays, "Teach me." He doesn't simply want directions—he wants to become the kind of disciple who knows the Shepherd's voice. THE PROMISE: GOD LEADS THE HUMBLE Here's the promise of Psalm 25: "He leads the humble in what is right and teaches the humble His way" (Psalm 25:9). God leads the humble—not those who have everything figured out, but those who admit they need His guidance. Those who are willing to be taught. Those who trust that God sees what they cannot. If you're facing uncertainty today, you're in exactly the right place to be led by God. Your confusion isn't necessarily a sign that God is silent. It may be His invitation to deeper humility and greater trust. And here's the beautiful part: the path God leads is always marked by "steadfast love and faithfulness" (Psalm 25:10). The destination may not be what you expected, and the journey may not be easy, but it will be good because it is guided by the loving heart of God. That's a promise worth trusting. HOW TO PRAY THIS PSALM First: Pray it when you're facing a decision. Use David's own words if they help: "Show me Your ways, Lord. Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me." Sometimes borrowing Scripture's prayers is easier than finding your own. Second: Don't rush the answer. Our culture tells us to decide quickly and move on. Psalm 25 invites us into a process: seek, pray, ask wise people, explore possibilities, and give God time to work. His guidance often comes gradually, not instantly. Third: Pay attention to how God opens and closes doors. Sometimes His guidance comes more through providence than through a dramatic feeling. An unexpected opportunity, wise counsel, or a door that quietly opens may be how He is leading. Fourth: Remember that God is good. "All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness." Even when His path is difficult or unexpected, it is marked by His goodness and loving care. Fifth: Be willing to take the next step without seeing the whole path. David prays, "Lead me...and teach me," describing an ongoing journey. As you walk in faith, God often provides the light for the step after that. Finally: Don't confuse waiting with passivity. Seek wise counsel. Search the Scriptures. Pray. Explore your options. Waiting on God isn't doing nothing—it's faithfully doing what you can while trusting God to do what only He can do. CONCLUSION Some of you will come out of your season of uncertainty soon. The decision will become clear. You'll see which way to go. And you'll step forward with confidence, knowing that God led you. Others of you may remain in uncertainty for longer. The answer might not come quickly. You might have to live with ambiguity while you continue seeking. And that's okay. God's timeline for clarity is not always our timeline. Either way, Psalm 25 teaches you this: God is not far away. God has not forgotten you. God is willing to guide the humble. And your seeking itself is a form of prayer that God honors. Your willingness to admit you don't know, to seek wisdom, to listen carefully—that's the kind of humble faith God loves to guide.

The Metaphysical Hour with Julia Cannon and Tracie Mahan and Question Master Tiffanny Vortexes, Sacred Geometry, and the Heart's Guidance Through Shifting Timelines Lighting the Grid and Moving Through Mercury Retrograde In this episode of The Metaphysical Hour, Julia Cannon, Tracie Mahan, and Tiffany welcome listeners from around the world and invite them to “shine their light” into the larger energetic grid. Tracie gives an update on her move, explaining how Mercury retrograde has brought delays, disruptions, and redirections, but also completion and progress. She reflects on leaving her former home, feeling the energetic disconnect already happening, and even calling her personal “vortexes” to join her in her temporary space before moving into the next home. Guidance, Lessons, and the Courage to Change The first listener question asks why guidance from a guardian angel may not seem to be coming through. Julia and Tracie suggest that sometimes guidance is not about changing the outer situation but changing how a person is relating to it. They discuss the possibility that a difficult circumstance may contain a lesson the soul chose to explore, and that angels or guides may not interfere until the person recognizes what is being learned. They also clarify that rituals such as cutting cords or tearing up energetic contracts may be useful when they help someone establish boundaries and take an active role in choosing what they will or will not allow. Sacred Geometry, Crop Circles, and Living Patterns of Energy A major portion of the episode centers on sacred geometry, sparked by a question about the symbols in Tracie's background. Julia and Tracie describe sacred geometry as energetic patterning, vibration, and a kind of blueprint woven into life itself. They connect it to snowflakes, microscopic patterns, chakras, the Merkaba, the Flower of Life, Dr. Masaru Emoto's water research, sand-and-frequency demonstrations, and crop circles. Their discussion presents crop circles as frequency-based symbols or programs that can be received simply by looking at them, with Tracie and Julia describing the information as something that can be transmitted through pattern, vibration, and resonance. Crop Circles, Earth Frequencies, and the Meeting of Above and Below The crop-circle discussion continues with a question about whether they come from Earth or from ships. Julia and Tracie respond that they understand it as both: a frequency or craft-related activation that meets the Earth's response. They discuss why crop circles often appear in certain areas of the United Kingdom, pointing to land composition, white stone, water tables, and specific energetic environments. They also compare the appearance of crop circles to sending an email full of compressed information, suggesting that the symbol itself can carry more than the conscious mind immediately understands. Pets, Transition, and Permission to Go Another listener asks how to know when it is time to release a beloved pet. The hosts respond with tenderness, saying that animals often have an easier relationship with death because they do not think about it the way humans do. They encourage listeners to talk to their pets, listen for whether the animal feels ready, and recognize that animals may sometimes hold on because their humans are not ready to let go. Tracie and Julia also note that pets may carry energy or stress for people, and that a sudden burst of vitality near the end can happen even when the animal is still ready to transition. Protection, Fear, and the Safety Frequency The episode also addresses whether creating a protective circle every day might block spiritual growth by keeping out uncomfortable experiences. Julia and Tracie say no, explaining that if an experience is truly part of a person's learning, it can still come through. They frame protection practices, white-light pyramids, gatekeepers, and “I am safe” mantras as tools for calming fear and helping a person feel safe enough to proceed. The point, in their view, is not that there is necessarily something dangerous to block, but that a feeling of safety helps keep someone out of fear and in a higher creative vibration. Retrogrades, Timeline Shifts, and the Wisdom of the Heart In the closing portion, the hosts return to Mercury retrograde, new jobs, timeline shifts, solar flares, the Schumann resonance, and the sense that people's personalities and realities may be changing. Tracie shares that after a recent client session, she felt as if she had moved onto a different timeline where things flowed more smoothly. The hosts suggest that something larger than Mercury retrograde may be happening, with upgrades and energetic integration unfolding in the background. The final question asks about head-versus-heart conflict, and Julia and Tracie answer that the heart knows: when the head rationalizes and confuses, the heart points toward what brings joy, relief, and authentic alignment. The episode closes with information for finding Tracie through QHHTOfficial.com or TracieMahan.com, along with thanks to Tiffany and the audience.

Unveiling Eternity & The Illusion of TimeWelcome to another profound session from the Ashland Gathering, where we open our hearts to the truth that we are all united in one eternal mind. Beginning with beautiful musical reflections on sharing one love and stepping out of the ego's private world, this episode sets a meditative tone for a deep exploration of our true, limitless identity.  In this New Revelation gathering, David leads a practical deep dive into Jesus's ancient teaching, "Before Abraham was I am," highlighting that our true I Am presence exists prior to time. By examining the nature of cause and effect, David explains how God, the first cause, created us in perfect spiritual unity. Conversely, the cosmos of time and space is exposed as a massive veil projected by the ego to hide this eternal reality. The discussion gently guides listeners to look beyond these worldly illusions so we can awaken to boundless joy, peace, and happiness.  To help dismantle our deeply ingrained beliefs in linear time, this episode utilizes the power of cinema by showing two movie clips that invite the audience to look past the physical world's demands and realize our shared, unbroken connection as the Christ Spirit.  Register for The Way for free here: https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mystic If you want to learn more about David Hoffmeister and Living Miracles events, visit https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/events Recording Date: Ashland, Saturday, July 11, 2026Follow us on:YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/DavidHoffmeister https://www.youtube.com/@LivingMiraclesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/ACIM.ACourseInMiracles Learn more about David & Living Miracles:https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsLearn more about A Course in Miracles:https://ACIM.bizDavid's Spanish YouTube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9Gw00CldPUmiu43y7fdWwDavid's Portuguese YouTube Channel is:https://www.youtube.com/@davidhoffmeisterucem

Brian opens up about his raw, personal journey of rebuilding his family from scratch when it was on the brink—not by following impossible parenting theories, but through the hard, rewarding work of emotional intelligence. How could Klal Yisrael look at everything Hashem had done for them—the miracles of Mitzrayim, Krias Yam Suf, the mann in the desert—and conclude: “Hashem hates us”?And why did one night of misplaced tears become a night of crying for generations? In this shiur, delivered at Michlelet NCSY, Rav Burg explores the deeper wound behind the sin of the Meraglim. Their fear was not merely that they would lose the battle for Eretz Yisrael. Beneath their fear was shame—the belief that because of their past, they were no longer worthy of Hashem's love. When a person believes he is unworthy of love, even love itself can begin to feel threatening. Care is reinterpreted as rejection. Guidance feels like punishment. A gift feels like a trap. The tears of that night revealed a profound breakdown of trust between Klal Yisrael and Hashem. That wound did not disappear. It continued producing distance, exile and tears throughout Jewish history.Tisha B'Av is therefore not only about mourning what was destroyed. It is about repairing the deepest rupture of all: learning to believe that even after failure, we are still loved—and allowing that love to bring us home.

Healing Relationships and The Holy InstantWelcome to the Saturday morning Movie Session for July 11th of the 'The Way' series. While David Hoffmeister typically leads these sessions, Peter Kirk steps in this week to offer a profound and inspired breakdown of a classic, mind-bending film about memory and heartbreak. In this deeply reflective episode, Peter uses the film's themes of memory erasure and turbulent romance to explore the complexities of human relationships, the ego's tendency to project distress onto others, and the beautiful opportunity for true healing that intimacy provides.  Peter discusses how the people in our lives reflect our own internal thoughts, emphasizing the Course in Miracles teaching that seeing your brother in complete innocence is knowing your own innocence.  Peter beautifully compares the mind's healing process to aerating a compost heap—lifting old, buried thoughts and beliefs up to the light and air so they can break down and be released.  Join Peter for this transformative journey into the mind, and discover how to trade the ego's chaotic defenses for a shared, holy purpose of forgiveness and unconditional love.  These gatherings take place all summer until September 2026 and include comedy, teachings, films, music, panel discussions, and live Q&A sessions with David Hoffmeister.Register for The Way for free here: https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mystic If you want to learn more about David Hoffmeister and Living Miracles events, visit https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/events Recording Date: Online, Saturday, July 11, 2026Follow us on:YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/DavidHoffmeister https://www.youtube.com/@LivingMiraclesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/ACIM.ACourseInMiracles Learn more about David & Living Miracles:https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsLearn more about A Course in Miracles:https://ACIM.bizDavid's Spanish YouTube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9Gw00CldPUmiu43y7fdWwDavid's Portuguese YouTube Channel is:https://www.youtube.com/@davidhoffmeisterucem

I share guidance around how to be mindful of your own tendency to overfunction, and how this can lead you into codependent dynamics. I also offer some thoughts on how best to lovingly support your fearful avoidant partner, while also honouring yourself and ensuring there is accountability around any difficult behaviours in the relationship. What Does America's 250th Birthday Mean for Its Future and Our Faith?   To celebrate America's 250th birthday, Curtis Chang is joined by his The After Party partners David French and Russell Moore to ask how Christians should think about patriotism, democracy, and national identity in a divisive age. Comparing the optimism of the 1976 Bicentennial with today's fractured political climate, they explore America's founding ideals, the promises and failures of liberty and equality, the relationship between Christianity and the American experiment, and the dangers of Christian nationalism. Together, they answer listener questions and offer a vision for faithful civic engagement — one marked by gratitude without idolatry, honesty without despair, and allegiance to Christ above every nation.   00:34 - Introduction to America's 250th Birthday 02:07 - Comparing the 250th with the Bicentennial 09:18 - America's Gifts to the World 16:16 - Was America Founded as a Christian Nation? 25:13 - The Pull of Christian Nationalism 29:29 - Project 2025 & What True American Renewal Requires 36:07 - A Bottom Up Christian Influence on Government 40:30 - Politics is Downstream from Culture 45:14 - Guidance for Pastors on the 250th 48:24 - America's Historical Role in the World 52:22 - Defining Christian Patriotism 58:03 - A Closing Prayer For Our Country   Sign up for The After Party   More to Listen to: Good Faith 199 – David French asks: What the Heck Is a Christian Nationalist?
