July 2019 saddles up a new theme of films that can't help but make you feel that oppressive heat of summer. HOWDY PARTNER ushers in the Western a formerly beloved genre that eventually was taken out back and shot by Hollywood. Simply put, Corey (@coreyrstarr) and Jonathan (@berkreviews) have picked the movies for this month that meet the genre criteria of Westerns though their picks couldn't be more different in many ways. There are tons of movies to choose from, but the four listed below are what they landed on. As far as the podcast goes, each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week. They begin with a spoiler-free review before diving in completely after the needed spoiler warning. However, before getting into the review of the week, Jonathan and Corey discuss what other movies they've seen since the last episode as well as anything else they feel like discussing. To help them decide which of the many films to watch each month they started creating themes for them all. Week 2 - Shane (1953) Jonathan was a big fan of James Mangold's Logan (2017) and when it became obvious that the film was heavily influenced by Shane (1953) it was immediately added to the watchlist. Thus, week 2 features the George Stevens film about "a weary gunfighter attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but a smoldering settler/rancher conflict forces him to act." The movie stars Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, and Van Heflin and is currently on Starz or to rent/own on various streaming platforms. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewscom-moviecasts/support

Galaktacus digs into the world of the most mutated mutants of the mutants by exploring the X-Men properties that don't quite fit in with the actual X-men. We're catching up with James Mangold's Logan and Noah Hawley FX series Legion to discuss what one can do with X-Men characters when you move away from the X-Men. Can this kind of move escape the convoluted timelines and Rush Hour Rattner taint of the X-Universe? Listen and find out!

Hugh Jackman recently -supposedly- ended his iconic tenure as the X-Men character Wolverine in James Mangold's Logan. To mark the occasion Craig, Angus and Natalie got together to discuss the film. Emotions ran high and there was a lot to say about the film, Hugh Jackman himself and a whole load of other barely/unconnected things that tend to come up during these discussions. Craig, Angus and Natalie can all be found as writers on this very site as well as being avid contributors to many of the podcasts. In our second podcast of the week, we take an in-depth look at James Mangold's outstanding superhero drama Logan, the last film to feature Hugh Jackman's iconic performance as Wolverine. We think this is, simply put, one of the best films the genre has offered to date, a thoughtful, emotional, and surprisingly timely film that breaks most every rule in the Hollywood blockbuster playbook. There's a lot to break down, especially considering that Logan essentially marks the end of an era that stretches all the way back to 2000, when Jackman first played the role. Spoilers aplenty in this episode, so be sure to see the movie first.
