Today, we're thrilled to welcome back one of our favourite guests — the hilarious and unfiltered Urzila Carlson. This episode is perfect if you need a real chuckle! Urzila joined the pod back in 2022 for an episode titled ‘Gags, Guns, and Grenades’ and that should indicate that she was one of the funniest people we’ve ever interviewed. In that chat we spoke about growing up ‘proper poor’ in South Africa, before moving to New Zealand and becoming a comic. Urzila has recently finished a very successful run of shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and started her new You Don’t Say tour. But that's not all — she's also now a big movie star in Netflix’s rom com Kinda Pregnant, starring alongside Amy Schumer. It was the number one movie worldwide with over 25 million views in its first week. In today’s episode we spoke about: Urzila starring in a huge Netflix film alongside Amy Schumer What Amy Schumer and Adam Sandler are like Urzila’s divorce, then engagement, then break up and whether she’ll stay single Her ‘exclusive’ and iconic break up line that you can also use! How Urzila got the part and Britt’s attempt to copy her How comedy is crafted and how Urzila finds some of her best jokes in mundane things The behind the scenes of the film and how much Urzila got to make her own lines Needing a friend who will clean out your humiliating things You can find more from Urzila and tickets to her show Urzila’s instagram You can watch us on Youtube Find us on Instagram Join us on tiktok Or join the Facebook Discussion Group Tell your mum, tell your dad, tell your dog, tell your friend and share the love because WE LOVE LOVE! In this episode, I sit with Comedian, Quiz Host and Corporate Trainer, Courtney Maldo (she/her), otherwise self-described as Perth's Punk Princess of Comedy. We recorded this episode during Melbourne International Comedy Festival, IRL, from Naarm, which was a real treat! We discuss Courtney's next solo show Gender, Drugs and Rock and Roll, Courtney's exploration of herself before coming out, feelings of isolation in growing up in a rural area, how much can change generation to generation, theatre in highschool leading to Courtney's first fan mail, how being alive is just a phase, what “passing” means and how that is different for every trans and gender non-conforming person and that things get better: rocky starts happen but the journey is yours.

Rosie and Nicola Dempsey are otherwise known as the comedy music double act Flo and Joan. The two previous times they've been on this show, Nicola's pieces of trivia were both about Andrew Lloyd Webber - and there was even a question related to Lloyd Webber in last year's episode - at the time, the depth of their knowledge about the man was somewhat surprising. But now we understand why, since they were writing their show One Man Musical which is about Andrew Lloyd Webber. They've just been performing the show for the last month, garnering a nomination for Most Outstanding Show at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival awards, which will be announced after this episode is uploaded. George Fouracres and Pierre Novellie met while studying Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge, so it's a fair expectation that they might do well at quizzes. They're both annoyingly multi-talented clever people, performing work ranging from stand-up to musicals, Pierre has a very successful podcast of his own - BudPod with Phil Wang, he's the author of the book Why Can't I Just Enjoy Things? A Comedian's Guide to Autism. And George meanwhile has played Hamlet for the Globe Theatre! But right now, they're both doing shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.George is the one man in “One Man Musical” created by musical comedians Flo and Joan, AKA the sisters Rosie and Nicola Dempsey. And Pierre's performing his stand up solo “Must We”Get tickets to both shows here:https://www.comedyfestival.com.au/browse-shows/pierre-novellie/https://www.comedyfestival.com.au/browse-shows/one-man-musical/Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-saturday-quiz. Rapha Manajem walks into a bar. He picks up a microphone. Amidst the deafening roar of mostly oblivious pub-goers, he manages to entertain two or three people. And for some reason, he keeps going back. Now he's a big shot with a recurring spot at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, opening next week. He also just so happens to be a fellow comrade and passionate Labor volunteer and campaigner, which makes him the perfect guest for us.From an awkward encounter with Chris Bowen, to a somehow even more awkward encounter with Dan Andrews, Rapha's got plenty of stories. But it's not all jokes. Rapha shares his perspective on being “diverse” in Australia, being Jewish in a fraught time, and the absurdity of answering for an identity you didn't choose. He also turns the tables on Stephen Donnelly and asks some fantastic questions about campaign organising! We loved this episode, and hope you do too.
